Does anyone still see advertisements on music channels (or otherwise) for these compilations? I can't remember the last time I did, it's been a long while. I was wondering if companies still license and produce pop compilations to sell purely via TV adverts, it seems to have died out.

You need to stay up until 4am and channel surf. Time Warner still sells these types of things.

It's still a big phenom in the US, but usually they advertise on TV and then release it in stores later these days.

my friend mark bacino hawking his most recent album via a parody of those tv adverts. his parody ran on late-night tv in new york for a while when the album came out.
