For acid house I'd suggest "Classic Acid", released in the Mastercuts series. Among the obvious classics ("Acid Tracks", "Machines") it has some less known gems too, such as "A Groove That Won't Stop" by Kevin Saunderson and "Lack of Love" by Charles B (a great mix of acid and vocal house, that one).

slightly off-topic, but make sure to check Jeff Mills' late 80s radio sessions as the Wizard - fantastic mix of acid, Detroit techno and hip-hop.

How might I find one of those mixes??

Also, "The Groove That Won't Stop" was very well known - but yes, somewhat forgotten now (as it is indeed mostly just a groove).

The new Soul Jazz Acid comp is good too - I hadn't heard Lil Louis "Video Clash" in about 12 years and am so glad to have reconnected with this very evil track!
