Which musicians do you feel are irrationally hated by groups of people? My nominations:

R.E.M.
Paul McCartney

Almost everyone from the teen pop era from 5-7 years ago. People acted like there was no precedent for made up groups or people not playing their own instruments on the hit record.

What's more interesting to me is Irrational Preconceived Hatred Of Musicians You've Never Heard Before That Happen To Get Hyped A Bit.

Although ironically I don't know if the people in that era would techinically be considered "musicians" by many people anyway.

the urban heat island effect (Jody Beth Rosen), Saturday, 16 July 2005 04:14 (twenty years ago)

Most hatred usually comes from perfectly rational reasons, yes?

the grateful dead win...phish place...and mccartney shows (though its fair to hate that beaknosed [sentimental nasty name])

and yoko would probably win if people actually hated her for the music...

actually, only macca gets hated for music primarily. mabey yoko wins after all

I display irrational hatred of Macca sometimes.

But I listened to "McCartney" last night, and I wondered what my problem is.

REM actually inspires irrational rage in me. Usually, irrational anger is more a result of fans than artists. I've been annoyed by REM fans to the extent that I haven't been able to enjoy or appreciate them without the bias seeping in and pissing me off. That said, I own 3 of their albums.

Cunga, regarding that, it was a little silly on the fixation of people not writing their own songs or playing their own instruments--there was indeed a time, even somewaht recently, where that was the norm. It isn't new.

But I really don't think that's where a lot of the (quite valid) hatred for that vapid genre came from. I think it was more disdain for the fact that the New Kids on the Block were back :(
