PL is pretty damn unimpeachable, but Eat To The Beat's first side and the second side up through "Slow Motion" is fantastic.

"Eat To The Beat" is super but "Parallel Lines" is damn near perfect.

ZionTrain (ZionTrain), Thursday, 21 July 2005 14:33 (twenty years ago)

eat to the beat... i was 8 and it was the record that first caused me to go crazy for a band (outside of my numan obssession).

i knew them from parallel lines because my mother was a big disco diva and knew "heart of glass" which she introduced to me but... eat to the beat was the big one. i still know every lyric and i even remember my mother allowing me to stay up late because they performed on this late night show "pink lady"... they did shayla from recognition... stunning.

it changed my life until i was given a copy of "non-stop erotic cabaret" by a friend of mine and then it was all over for me... a slippery slope to debauchery.

Parallel Lines has the better album cover.

ETTB!

A Viking of Some Note (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 21 July 2005 14:42 (twenty years ago)

That sequence from "Union City Blue" to "Accidents Never Happen" is perfect.

Alfred Soto (Alfred Soto), Thursday, 21 July 2005 14:54 (twenty years ago)

another vote for ETTB from me. but they're both good.

zebedee (zebedee), Thursday, 21 July 2005 14:59 (twenty years ago)

It has "Victor" on it.

A Viking of Some Note (Andrew Thames), Thursday, 21 July 2005 14:59 (twenty years ago)

oh! so happy that 'eat to the beat' is getting so much love. everyone always tells me i'm crazy for thinking this is their best album but much as i love 'parallel lines' i do think this has the edge.

That sequence from "Union City Blue" to "Accidents Never Happen" is perfect.

totally otm.

and 'shayla' = most underrated blondie song ever.

stirmonster... shayla! yumm... it still makes me melt into a puddle of goo.

Oh, and Eat to the Beat is great, but my heart belongs to Parallel Lines.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Thursday, 21 July 2005 21:48 (twenty years ago)

I'm with Alex, but my heart lurches when I listen to "The Hardest Part" or "Shayla."

*runs to put on record*

I am a diehard Blondie fan. I have to say Eat to the Beat, for Shayla, Dreaming, Union City Blue, Living in the Real World, Accidents Never Happen -- this stuff is so great, so brilliantly produced and to me, more lyrically interesting than anything on Parallel Lines. But I'm a freaky mystical twirly chick when it comes to songwriting.--well at last sometimes.

Orbit (Orbit), Friday, 22 July 2005 02:53 (twenty years ago)

Holy shit, Pink Lady! I remember that!

My heart belongs to Eat To The Beat, but I can definitely say that Parallel Lines sounds a little better each and every time I play it.

Hydrochloric Shaved Weirds (Bimble...), Saturday, 23 July 2005 07:42 (twenty years ago)

Parallel Lines has the better album cover.

Breaks my heart in pieces, because it is true. *Weeps*

Hydrochloric Shaved Weirds (Bimble...), Saturday, 23 July 2005 07:50 (twenty years ago)

Anyone here remember when Ride covered "Union City Blue"?

Parallel Lines is great, but my heart belongs to "Dreaming."

gypsy mothra (gypsy mothra), Sunday, 24 July 2005 07:21 (twenty years ago)

The first album is as good as Parallel Lines, I think.

Blondie are playing in London in November - is it worth going to see them? Tickets seem to be around £30.

Bob Six (bobbysix), Sunday, 24 July 2005 12:02 (twenty years ago)

Saw them a few years ago. Extremely good musically but there seemed to be something indefinable missing cf. how they were in the 70's / 80's, almost as if we were watching the world's best Blondie tribute band.

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Sunday, 24 July 2005 18:17 (twenty years ago)

Their last album SUXXED.

I don't see how this couldn't be Parallel Lines, really. Eat To The Beat has some great tracks on it, but Parallel Lines is their most complete album.

Having said that, it's very very very rare that I find myself listening to this band... not that I hate their music, of course, god no. It's more that I've hardly ever thought to myself "hmm... think I'll put a Blondie record on."

You’re being too simplistic and you’re insulting my poor heart (Turrican), Saturday, 8 August 2015 04:52 (ten years ago)

the look debbie gives at about 0:10:

parallel lines is the most, ever. eat to the beat has atomic and dreaming. dreaming is free. i can't compare and contrast.

your hair is beautiful, btw. tonight. i've never met you, but i'll never forget you.

fade away and radiate is just so very. wrapped like candy in a blue blue neon glow.

soooo much sex and sexy but her pleasure is a cup of tea; she'll sit by and watch the river flow. we're with her but she's building a road of gold. she's fading away and radiating. we're the "you" in the song but she's thinking about "him," whom she's never met but can't forget.

it's better that way, because she knows better. imagine something of your very own, something just like this, except this isn't yours. you can dream about her if you want; dreaming is free. she's dreaming about something else, you might as well too.

slugbuggy, Saturday, 8 August 2015 07:39 (ten years ago)

Parallel Lines has the better album cover.

The correct answer is Autoamerican:
