Anyway to start, 3 very short pieces, a1, b1, c1, just 20 to 30 seconds each, no clues as to title or artist. Just listen and post your opinions back here.

mitch's original concept:
How about a new ILM activity? Every week/day/fortnight/whatever a song/piece of music is [posted] and everyone does their darndest to listen to it- but I mean *rilly* listen. And report back here. Resist the urge to dismiss- this may mean you will end up attentively listening to anything from Lou Bega to Merzbow. Another way of doing this is for an anonymous song to be posted at, say, Grokepile and all of us blessed with MP3-listening capabilites will download and listen without prejudice.
N.B. KEY THING: RESIST URGE TO IDENTIFY ARTIST/TITLE OR DROP HINTS. On the original Listening Chamber threads some ppl seemed to find this extraordinarily difficult.
where is mitch these days, anyway?

btw great idea to revive the listening chambers, billy. those 24 chambers were the most exciting threads ever on ilm. here is the category.

This would work better if the source material had been disguised more, e.g. using shorter extracts cut up and reassembled.
Afterthought: I wonder if this was made using the Alvin Lucier 'I am sitting in a room' technique.
Footnote for Merkins: the Smash robots are from a 70s TV advert for instant mashed potato.
