also Hotogisu more ambient than metal but still

hector (hector), Friday, 5 August 2005 04:19 (twenty years ago)

i was recently given Azonic "Halo" that's pretty rad. super heavy low end feedback grumble and wammy bar yanks

plain ol' jaxon (jaxon), Friday, 5 August 2005 04:23 (twenty years ago)

Also Ramasses "We Will Lead You To Glorious Times" which is really sludgy, sloppy doom/stoner stuff w/cookie monster vocals

plain ol' jaxon (jaxon), Friday, 5 August 2005 04:25 (twenty years ago)

actually, that's Ramesses

plain ol' jaxon (jaxon), Friday, 5 August 2005 04:28 (twenty years ago)

oh shit, i just googled them and found out they're the Electric Wizard rhythm section. no wonder i liked it so much

Started this thread a while back, and there are some solid recommendations in there.... and some embarrassing writing by me. :-0

But yeah, my fave doom:
Esoteric (last two albums, esp... hearing Metamorphogenesis for the first time was pretty much flat-out amazing)
Corrupted - Llenandose...
Teeth of Lions Rule the Divine - Rampton (mostly for the 1st track)
Candlemass - Epicus Doomicus Metallicus (if you're feeling more 'metal' and less 'ambient')

oh yeah, i was given that Corrupted double disc, and scanned through the hour plus tracks, and they seemed way more ambient than doom or metal. i should listen to the whole thing

plain ol' jaxon (jaxon), Friday, 5 August 2005 04:38 (twenty years ago)

Well, the 2nd disc is straight drone. And the first 20mins of the first disc is hardly metal (tho it's v.nice). But the rest of that first disc is an epic, gurgling monster. Amazing stuff.

original bgm, Friday, 5 August 2005 04:50 (twenty years ago)

And to clarify, it's all amazing, not just the 'metal' parts. Well, the drone disc is hardly the best drone material I've ever heard... but it's also the perfect comedown after the first disc. That thing is just brutal.

Jesu

Old Man Gloom. it's got oom in the name.

pinder (pinder), Friday, 5 August 2005 05:59 (twenty years ago)

Cathedral - Forest of Equilibrium
The 3rd and the Mortal - Tears Laid in Earth
Anathema - Serenades
Funeral - Tragedies
My Dying Bride - Trinity (ep's)

the todster (the todster), Friday, 5 August 2005 07:30 (twenty years ago)

i'd rate the latest corrupted album, se hace por los suenos asesinos even higher than llenandose.... long, drawn out doom-folk track opens up then a couple of more standard tunes. a bit short, though. paso inferior is worth pursuing as well.

skepticism farmakon
thergothon stream from the heavens
disembowelment s/t discography on relapse
nortt graven (late burzum ambient-metal meets 'funeral doom')
moonn D))) radiation of the moon

don't we do this thread every month?

Khanate - s/t!

Yes! Exactly right. Doom peaked a number of years ago. For anyone getting into it, pick at random from Southern Lord and The Music Cartel and you'll do fair to slightly better than fair, on average.

George Smith, Friday, 5 August 2005 08:40 (twenty years ago)

Well obviously i'd recommend Isis,Old Man Gloom, pelican, Boris, Sunno))), Khanate Earth, High On Fire etc whether they're doom or not. (I hate labels anyway)
But stuff that is considered doom that I recommend :

Corrupted
Electric Wizard
Om
Witchcraft
Shepherd
Place Of Skulls
Obsessed
Saint Vitus
Warhorse
Spirit Caravan
The Hidden Hand
Unearthly Trance
