Where is the love for Pretty Ricky?

I like the new single "Your Body" even more than "Grind On Me," with its amusing verses and fabulously indulgent chorus.

I bet there's someone around here wondering where the love for Young Jeezy is too. His album went to #2 on the charts, folks!

uh that should be "Grind With Me" obv.

Hey yall,

This is your boy Kanye, what's good? I noticed Diamonds Are Forever ain't getting the play it should on your chat room here. I talked to PR and they said take it to the source, so what how yall feeling me on that one?

Also, I'm auditioning the hottest ILMers for my upcoming video -- it will be for the third single off the album. Please send pics.

That's your boy...

At some point the 'it's popular = we MUST talk about it' construct falls down.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 5 August 2005 21:21 (twenty years ago)

it does, ned?!?

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 5 August 2005 21:22 (twenty years ago)

Well, you know.

I really dislike that Pretty Ricky song. (grind w/me)....it irritates me. I kinda just resent R&B slow(ish) jams in general, cuz it clogs up my local blazin' hiphop and r&b station.

I also really like "Slow Wind," Kells new single which is being unfortunately overshadowed by his operatic opus.

"Bounce" by Fatty Koo is EXACTLY what I needed to hear on the radio

scott seward (scott seward), Saturday, 6 August 2005 00:19 (twenty years ago)

okay I was talking about it, but the fattykoomania ends there.

I thought it was slow wine when i first heard it but google search for slow wine = no results for kells!

deej.., Saturday, 6 August 2005 04:30 (twenty years ago)

i seem to recall the love for pretty ricky being on another thread where u said it sucked deej?

hold tight the private caller (mwah), Saturday, 6 August 2005 09:55 (twenty years ago)

I don't remember saying that! I did think "Grind W Me" sucked at first but its chorus wormed its way into my heart, like heartworm.

deej.., Saturday, 6 August 2005 17:11 (twenty years ago)

Turns out there was a pretty ricky thread! My bad. I said 'this sounds sub-ave.' the first time i heard it. First impressions and all that. Oh well, talk about young jeezy or something.

deej.., Saturday, 6 August 2005 17:14 (twenty years ago)

(Your Body >>> Grind W Me)

deej.., Saturday, 6 August 2005 17:19 (twenty years ago)

Well, there's always stuff like "Summer Nights" by Lil Rob and "Baby I'm Back" by Baby Bash and "Pretty Girl" by NB Ridaz. Not that I have anything to say about them. (Well, I do, actually, which is that this is the stealth movement on the reggaeton stations, this relentlessly pleasant r&b that barely registers as "Latino" to non-Latinos. And that all three being in the Mega 95.7 Top Ten is at least two too many.)

I also really like "Slow Wind," Kells new single which is being unfortunately overshadowed by his operatic opus.

is "Slow Wind" seriously the next single? that shit is garbage!

Al (sitcom), Sunday, 7 August 2005 01:45 (twenty years ago)

In Praise of... Pretty Ricky

Al (sitcom), Sunday, 7 August 2005 01:52 (twenty years ago)

also Hillary wrote some more about them on her blog around the same time and I think 3 interviewed them.

Al (sitcom), Sunday, 7 August 2005 01:53 (twenty years ago)

but you're right about the absence of Young Jeezy discussion on ILM, I ran a search the other day and there were only 11 results, half of which were people saying "jeezy creezy" or saying something in "fo sheezy my neezy" type talk.

Al (sitcom), Sunday, 7 August 2005 01:55 (twenty years ago)

Yeah Frank I love "Summer Nights" i think i'm the only one (til now) who even mentioned it on ILM, if i remembered to. I wrote about it on my blog and got lots of comments like "this song is wack" or "this song is ok, but not representative, really lil rob is a GREAT RAPPER" sorts of things.

Al I'm surprised you don't like "Slow Wind"! I thought it was really sexy when i heard it on the radio.

How about that LIL KIM single that i don't think i've seen mentioned, or it was mentioned and i forgot about it (like pretty ricky). I think its terrific.
