I love PE, but their titles have been oh so shitty in the past decade. I mean, Revolverlution? This isn't quite as bad, but still.

This is definitely quite as bad.

Remember, back in the day, when Public Enemy didn't have to make a horrifying phonetic pun to get a record company's attention?

Public Enemy records have suffered since Chuck can't start each album with Nineteen-________! anymore.

Is anyone else just wracking their brains trying to come up with a "funny" political pun album title?...Chuck, I apoligize...it's harder than it looks!

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Thursday, 6 October 2005 18:01 (twenty years ago)

Forget the title, "New Whirl Order" is such a horrible album, too. Has anyone else heard it/been tortured by it? I've sort of defended all their other recent ones, but this one's so bad. It sounds like they took pieces of a bunch of leftover old songs and sort of awkwardly strung them together, and then Chuck D rapped over them so badly (his voice sounds stronger than recently, but he's mostly saying nothing at all, which is depressing, and he's off the beat and sloppy). Flavor Flav's voice is all over the thing, but since he's almost always just saying things like "yeah" and "uh-huh", it seems apparant that he had nothing to do with the album, that Chuck just put Flav's voice in there to make it seem like he's still a functional part of the group. I like the very last track, "Superman's Black in the Building", cause it has this nice funk-soul groove to it. And "Bring That Beat Back"'s beat sounds kind of nice, but dated (and that track is a leftover that they rejected back in the day, according to Chuck in the liner notes), but overall as an album it's so so awful.

Not sure you guys get it -- they're saying the current power structure is disorienting and stinks to high heaven.

two weeks pass...
Ha, I lost my review copy at home among boxes and had to buy the Best Buy version.

I actually think this album is not bad at all. "MKLVFKWR" rocks, and so does "As Long as the People Got Something to Say." I, too, like the last track, though it's a ramble. None of it's as great as "Hell No We Ain't All Right!" but how could it be? Here's my review:

Pete Scholtes, Thursday, 3 November 2005 18:39 (twenty years ago)

is MKLVFKWR the same version as the single from last year?

kit brash (kit brash), Friday, 4 November 2005 00:05 (twenty years ago)

I have to confess ignorance here...

Pete Scholtes, Saturday, 5 November 2005 01:44 (twenty years ago)

they put the song out a year ago as a Moby collaboration

Matos-Webster Dictionary (M Matos), Saturday, 5 November 2005 02:04 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, same version.
