I searched and was surprised not to find anything on this yet:

Black Sabbath
Sex Pistols
Lynyrd Skynyrd
Blondie
Miles Davis

Wasn't Ozzy saying he didn't want to be in the HOF? Either way, his acceptance speech should be entertaining. The Sex Pistols too. Will the Pistols, Sabbath, Blondie and Lynyrd Skynyrd all get onstage together and jam out on "Sweet Leaf" together? "Free Bird"? "Anarchy In The U.K."? "Heart of Glass"? I can't wait for the VH1 special!

Jokes aside, it's the first year in a long time that I liked all the bands inducted. Some years they've inducted six to eight artists? Do they feel like they're running out of good artists? They may have jumped the gun a bit in scraping the barrel for Billy Joel...

I just finished a piece on heavy metal last night, and Black Sabbath's induction tied nicely into my point of metal finally being accepted and even canonized.

most ILM-friendly rock hall of fame class ever?

wow, that's the most boring lineup i could've imagined that wasn't already in the hall of fame (not including metallica or nirvana of course). they're not even cool in a "gee, that's funny so that's pretty awesome" kind of way.

were the judges hand picked from some sort of radiohead fan page forum or something? or did they just go junior college to junior college to strip mall and ask people randomly? i am suprised tiny tim didn't make this years list, gosh....

i suppose it's too early to nominate TAD, eh? that seems more "rock n' roll" to me than miles davis or blondie. what the hell kind of shit is that? and geeze louise, sex pistols? come on now. you can't seriously consider that to be "rock n' roll". just cause pub rock has the word rock in it, doesn't mean it's "rock n' roll", right? man, i hate that band. what a turd.

It's in lots of the recent articles how Oz wrote some letter in 1999 about how the hall lacks legitimacy because it's determined by people who 'haven't bought an album in their life' and not by 'the fans' (what a populist the POD is). This was after they were snubbed for, i think, 3 years. He shamelessy requested that BS be taken off the ballot. I assume this letter was released publicly at the time by Ozzy or Sharon because it's quoted from exactly. The Hall not 'legit'? Come on!

Lydon was much more succinct when he called the hall 'a _ucking joke'. Ever watch 'Rotten Tv'? He destroyed some memorabilia to prove how worthless such objects are so I'm sure he just LOVES the idea of a whole museum of it.

Chuck D is livid about Grandmaster Flash not getting in. But then he says it's good to keep rap pure.

Ozzy just pretends not to care. Lydon is the one I can't really see in a tuxedo jamming with all the past inducted fossils. OTOH, The Hall is so widely not cared about/universally acknowledged joke that I can see Lydon saying to himself that it's not even worth making a statement about by refusing and just going along with the induction for yucks. As far as i'm concerned he's above reproach and can do whatever.

Miles Davis is one of those special few that everybody wants to acknowledge the genius of whether they have a clue about the artist or not. I'm surprised he didn't get in a long time ago. I wonder who pitched him for admission and had to explain why?

Nice.

The Sex Pistols faxed in their acceptance speech: "This is a fax to the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. 'Next to the Sex Pistols, rock and roll and that hall of fame is a piss stain. You're a museum. Urine is wine. We're not coming. We're not your monkeys, and so what.'"

How utterly shocking.
