11 almost 12 years later, does this album stand up to scrutiny?

I think its second only to core, and although I haven't spinned it in years, it still holds its own. If this has allready been asked sorry, but I don't know how to search this god damn site and aint sure how protocols work here.

hydrallus (hydraulis2), Friday, 2 December 2005 20:46 (twenty years ago)

it's the bomb!

Al (sitcom), Friday, 2 December 2005 21:30 (twenty years ago)

Was Stone Temple Pilots second album as good as I remember it?

the search function is at the very bottom of the page.

I haven't heard this in years, so I guess I can't contribute anything. I'm thinking I probably wouldn't like it very much though.

Tiny Music>>>Purple>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Everything Else

yeah, that looks about right.

Tiny Music>>>Purple>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>Everything Else

They are both really good, I even have a soft spot for 12 Bar Blues. Never did hear his new band as I lost interest awhile ago.

That was suppose to have a OTM before it.

BeeOK (boo radley), Saturday, 3 December 2005 05:45 (twenty years ago)

I liked Tiny Music more at the time, but I re-bought a used version recently and it hasn't aged as well as Purple for me.

Al (sitcom), Saturday, 3 December 2005 05:50 (twenty years ago)

Aside from the singles(which are still good), all I can remember about this album is that one of the tracks was the MTV news music for a bit. So dud.

None crapper.

Nigel Tufnell, Saturday, 3 December 2005 07:04 (twenty years ago)

seventeen years pass...

Holy fuck i forgot how much this album bangs

Heez, Saturday, 25 February 2023 01:44 (three years ago)

Meatplow to Vasoline is such a good one-two punch

Heez, Saturday, 25 February 2023 01:45 (three years ago)

it's funny remembering how they were considered derivative, second gen grunge. it's totally true but not really their fault and they kill it. "unglued" is a killer nirvana song

Heez, Saturday, 25 February 2023 01:59 (three years ago)

Sell meeeee down the river

waiting for a czar to fall (Neanderthal), Saturday, 25 February 2023 02:08 (three years ago)

I thought unglued was a Pete Shelley Homosapien rip?

Philip Nunez, Saturday, 25 February 2023 02:11 (three years ago)

'interstate love song' is basically perfect. cliches, riffs, in and out in 3:16

mookieproof, Saturday, 25 February 2023 02:20 (three years ago)

it might be the only big song of that era that actually leaves you wanting more. these guys were really good musicians, like way way better than most of their contemporaries.

call all destroyer, Saturday, 25 February 2023 02:24 (three years ago)

her name is, indeed, what it means

mookieproof, Saturday, 25 February 2023 02:58 (three years ago)

Been going back to this era a bunch and all I can say is there were some damn fine rocknroll drummers back then

Heez, Saturday, 25 February 2023 02:59 (three years ago)

yeah, when they really gave up trying to be the 'hevvy rawk gods' on Core and leaned more into their 70s/blues rock influences, it took em places.

waiting for a czar to fall (Neanderthal), Saturday, 25 February 2023 03:06 (three years ago)

loved this album

werewolves of laudanum (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 25 February 2023 03:27 (three years ago)

special album. still remains still remains my fav STP deep cut

four square ups... no punches thrown (Spottie), Saturday, 25 February 2023 03:53 (three years ago)

Should have polled but can't see anything beating "Interstate Love Song."

Bee OK, Saturday, 25 February 2023 04:15 (three years ago)

Yeah I think the album is solid but "Interstate Love Song" is the rare radio hit I never tired of

Vinnie, Saturday, 25 February 2023 04:18 (three years ago)

My second album
12 gracious melodies

Take a bath, I'll drink the water that you leave.

if u should die before me ask if u can bring a friiiiend

waiting for a czar to fall (Neanderthal), Saturday, 25 February 2023 18:01 (three years ago)

I liked Tiny Music more at the time, but I re-bought a used version recently and it hasn't aged as well as Purple for me.

The one obvious exception being "Trippin' on a Hole in a Paper Heart."

immodesty blaise (jimbeaux), Saturday, 25 February 2023 18:04 (three years ago)

"Silvergun Superman" is not only their best song but maybe my favourite "grunge" song of all.

Halfway there but for you, Saturday, 25 February 2023 21:18 (three years ago)

Pretty Penny was where they revealed how much they loved Led Zeppelin III

waiting for a czar to fall (Neanderthal), Saturday, 25 February 2023 21:21 (three years ago)

they’re obv led zep obsessives all over their career. “interstate” is a jimmy page-ass riff

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Saturday, 25 February 2023 21:49 (three years ago)

and “trippin” is just “dancing days” 2 but no one cares bc what a great idea, ripping off dancing days and turning it into a new rad banger

flamenco drop (BradNelson), Saturday, 25 February 2023 21:50 (three years ago)

Fun solo in that one too

waiting for a czar to fall (Neanderthal), Saturday, 25 February 2023 21:56 (three years ago)

Like Zeppelin, they weren't scared of chords with added tritones.

Halfway there but for you, Saturday, 25 February 2023 21:57 (three years ago)

"Daisy" from Tiny Music inspired me to buy a slide for my guitar as a teen

waiting for a czar to fall (Neanderthal), Saturday, 25 February 2023 22:02 (three years ago)

Hootie surprisingly (or not?) makes Interstate sound like it was written for them
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JGlTo2HyzVI

It's a very straightahead rendition, not at all deconstructed like Cash's cover of Hurt, but still...
OK, this is a Hootie song, now.

Philip Nunez, Saturday, 25 February 2023 22:03 (three years ago)

wow that’s great & pretty faithful!

werewolves of laudanum (VegemiteGrrl), Saturday, 25 February 2023 23:11 (three years ago)

“press play” is cool, give me an STP smooth jazz funk album

not too strange just bad audio (brimstead), Sunday, 26 February 2023 04:03 (three years ago)

Listened to this for the first time in years on Thursday, so this is a timely bump.

they did well to not over think it, and just trust in the acid given to them by the flaming lips.

my opinionation (Hamildan), Sunday, 26 February 2023 20:51 (three years ago)

Isn’t the interstate love song riff borrowed from Jim Croce song?
