To Lurkdom or Bust: Alex in NYC says Kinda Bye for a Little While...

...like it matters to anyone.

Given the new job that I've just started (day 2 was today), it seems my time getting agitated by the inanities of ILM is to be drastically cut down (or until such time as I get settled in at work that I can safely juggle tasks and downtime, etc. etc.) At the moment, I'm suffering from the new kid in school syndrome, frantically inventing tasks for myself in a vain attempt to look busy and not appear entirely foolish and useless. In any event, by the time I get home, I'm more inclined to spend time with Charlotte than peruse ILM. I'm not vanishing entirely, but I may not be as vocal a presence here for a while. Please make sure the fire is honored and the cheese monkeys are fed to famished jackals in my quasi-absence.

Oh, and for the record, via nefarious means, I have obtained the entirety of the new Killing Joke record. I am not immediately floored (Jaz's voice is shot), but it's still better than whatever little rinkydink indie backpack teen pop crunk undie hip hop crapola that you're currently grooving to, you pabulum-engorged newts.

Don't take everything too seriously.

Piece, man

I'm not dying or moving to Bulgaria or anything. It's just that I don't have as much downtime at the office to fuck around on ILX, and when i get home at night, I'd like to spend some time with the wife and child (before she goes to bed, shortly after I get home) then log onto ILM to tell somebody that he's an abject jackass for still listening to New Edition (or whomever). As time goes on, I'm sure my professional regard for office decorum and proper conduct will invariably slack, and I'll sneak in as much ILM terrorizing as I can, but in the interim, until I get my bearings at the office, I just won't be here as much, I fear (though you can always check out my stupid weblog by clicking here.

And yeah, I'm working at MTV News Online.

"Black friend of the night, why do you leave in such a hurry?
White friend of the day - you left us working on our worries
Never say goodbye, for we'll all be with you someday
Fond adieus but never say goodbye
Like lovers of the past, they swim and surface in our memories
Those questions never last, I'll save them all for the next century
Never say goodbye, for we'll all be with you someday
Fond adieus but never say goodbye, never say goodbye
Tell us what's over the horizon
Is it worth the chance to stick around for more surprising
Never say goodbye, for we'll all be with you someday
Fond adieus but never say goodbye
Never say goodbye, for we'll all be with you someday
Fond adieus but never say goodbye"

I guess this would be the right place to recall that, on first joining ILM, I was convinced Alex was about 15 years old and got all freaked out when he mentioned his wife.

Dear Alex,

i've lurked here for a few months now, since finding my name mentioned here multiple times through a google search. a quick search of the archives has led me to see you as one of my earliest champions on this board. as a result, sales of my back catalogue have surged .21% in the past 4 months alone. i must thank you for that, sir, as times have been tough for the last decade. id also like to thank the rest of this board for helping Alex in his quest for spreading the Lethargy Gospel.

anyway, good luck Alex and blessings upon your family and new job.

from the wikipedia entry on ian mcculloch:

In 1998, McCulloch teamed up with the Spice Girls, Tommy Scott of Space and Simon Fowler of Ocean Colour Scene as "England United" to record Top of the World, the official song for Team England in the 1998 FIFA World Cup, although it fared less well than a reissue of "Three Lions".

I thought new policy was to maintain radio silence on the issue.

No, I'm still working. I just don't need to sequester myself away from the rest of the world while doing so.
