Because we could use a place where we can talk about both electro bobbins, Derrick Carter, Villalobos, and Todd Edwards.

First '06 album I'm enjoying is "Late Night Driving" by Duplex on Clone. Discogs says it came out in late '05, but most places still have it listed as a pre-release. Great electro nonetheless.

We already started one of these threads, sort of.

Rolling 2006 Techno Thread

NoTimeBeforeTime (Barry Bruner), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 04:25 (twenty years ago)

I could start another one next week and call it "Sinking 2006-2010 Electronic Music Thread"!

Yawn (Wintermute), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 04:35 (twenty years ago)

(still waiting for the Louderbach album to leak btw)
(*Louderbach = Troy Pierce)

Yawn (Wintermute), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 04:38 (twenty years ago)

No offense, but I think we could sustain a more generic house/techno thread then just a techno thread. I didn't know about the other thread, though.

The Louderbach samples I heard from the album sounded a bit dull, if I remember correctly.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 04:42 (twenty years ago)

They do? I can't find samples anywhere, and the album got a lot of rave reviews (no pun intended)

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 04:53 (twenty years ago)

Ah, that site didn't have samples the last time I checked. Doesn't sound boring at all!

Yawn (Wintermute), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 04:58 (twenty years ago)

More fun please!

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 05:31 (twenty years ago)

More efficiency please!

Yawn (Wintermute), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 06:02 (twenty years ago)

(and there we have it, the essential House/Techno divide)

Yawn (Wintermute), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 06:02 (twenty years ago)

Hard to judge from the samples though. His 12" on Perlon didn't start moving till 5 minutes in.

Good Dog (Good Dog), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 06:16 (twenty years ago)

xpost

I'm being a little flippant, but I just feel it's much easier to fall into the gloomy/melancholic mode. It's a bit harder to convince me.

Michael F Gill (Michael F Gill), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 06:16 (twenty years ago)

does anyone still make Normal House (as in not Micro or Electro)?

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 10:44 (twenty years ago)

argh, just posted about Duplex album on the Techno thread.

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 10:45 (twenty years ago)

Any thoughts on Matt John? I loved his record on Perlon last year and he's dj'ing in Am*dam soon.

JoB (JoB), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 11:06 (twenty years ago)

off topic, but does anyone know what ben watt is doing these days and does anyone still like the whole lazy/underdog style sound or has it completely degenerated into ibizan bar groove rubbishness

barbarian cities (jaybob3005), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 11:32 (twenty years ago)

i really love that matt john 12, is he british?

i'm really feeling this dude called dapayk at the moment, he does everything from sweet jacking herbert-style stuff with female vox to totally whacked-out k-hole trax. who is this guy and why is no-one going mad about him. second only to dominik eulberg when it comes to production, and similar in that he is so fuckin versatile.

nebbesh (nebbesh), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 11:46 (twenty years ago)

"Bobbins" was easier to search for.

jed_ (jed), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 11:50 (twenty years ago)

can we edit the title so that i get to see the word 'bobbins' as much in 2006 as i did last year?

The Lex (The Lex), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 12:45 (twenty years ago)

Electro-house bobbins 2006

JoB (JoB), Tuesday, 10 January 2006 13:02 (twenty years ago)

does anyone know what ben watt is doing these days

I saw him DJ at Deep in L.A. on Halloween weekend. He started out pretty dark, almost proggy, dropping things like "Rej" that I would have never expected him to play. His set grew progressively deeper and more beautiful as the night went on and included a few surprises like "Running up that Hill". I had a great time and would definitely go see him again.

I haven't picked up a Buzzin' Fly record in a year or two, so I'm not sure what the label is releasing.

nir, Sunday, 12 February 2006 13:35 (twenty years ago)

haha no, that was 2005.

Yawn (Wintermute), Sunday, 12 February 2006 14:27 (twenty years ago)

i thought the matt john was sort of weak. being & riding is a relaxing horse ride through the luminous green british countryside with your lover but at 8:31 it could use some more changes.

the other tracks are just bland.

lf (lfam), Sunday, 12 February 2006 19:55 (twenty years ago)

the Mossa debut album "Some Eat It Raw" is the business! damn those french and their superior funkiness >:0

the Nightstarter 2 mix/comp 2cd on Moodmusic looks pretty good!

The Louderbach album slays. Yeah it could lose a couple of tracks (8 & 9 please) and still occasionally feels padded, or like an amazing sound in search of more substance. But it compares damn well or better to Suckfish in out & out rad, puristy TECHNO thrills.

fandango (fandango), Wednesday, 31 May 2006 00:36 (nineteen years ago)

Funny, I just searched to find out about the Louderbach album and what feelings were on it. I heard a couple tracks back at the beginning of the year and kinda forgot about it. But it just popped back in my head, and I remembered that I still needed to hear it. Should I buy it (and not just for the cover art)?

matt2 (matt2), Thursday, 1 June 2006 19:02 (nineteen years ago)

I haven't regretted it, but I'm not you :| It is kind of a slow-burn album that only really gets up to full-tempo a couple of times. Probably a party killer (except in Berlin)... but I keep coming back to it for sure.

fandango (fandango), Thursday, 1 June 2006 19:59 (nineteen years ago)

Thanks fandango. I didn't really expect party music, but relistening to the tracks from a while back and your recommendation means I'll probably go ahead and pick it up come payday. It does feel very down, but that's what I'm interested in.

I'm sort of regretting recommending that Louderbach album so hard :o It's good, when it's good, if you know what I mean. But the other day I was listening to it and thinking oh fuck it, and it's not better than Suckfish jesus.

anyhoo!

hyperbolic review anyone? A GUY CALLED GERALD - Proto Acid - The Berlin Sessions

despite which it sounds pretty damn fine to me on a sample scan. Nicely spare & focused and mixed to boot.

bad hair day house (fandango), Sunday, 20 August 2006 16:12 (nineteen years ago)

oooh this is good!

repeat listens needed before I go starting that "TS: analord vs. proto-acid" thread though...

bad hair day house (fandango), Wednesday, 23 August 2006 13:13 (nineteen years ago)

still good! really good!
