cancer prone fat guy (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 12 January 2006 01:01 (twenty years ago)

jaxon (jaxon), Thursday, 12 January 2006 01:03 (twenty years ago)

possibly that too.

cancer prone fat guy (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 12 January 2006 01:03 (twenty years ago)

i like it ok. it's one of those albums that's so determinedly wispy that i can't recall a single thing about it except a stray melody or a horn line.

cancer prone fat guy (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 12 January 2006 01:04 (twenty years ago)

wait, andy, you gave it 4 stars and a really good review on amg

jaxon (jaxon), Thursday, 12 January 2006 01:05 (twenty years ago)

you three and stevem were the only people i expected to post to this thread. (he's probably still asleep)

jaxon (jaxon), Thursday, 12 January 2006 01:06 (twenty years ago)

cancer prone fat guy (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 12 January 2006 01:07 (twenty years ago)

spacek has more turtlenecks

cancer prone fat guy (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 12 January 2006 01:08 (twenty years ago)

and enter bbe w/ the branding

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 12 January 2006 01:09 (twenty years ago)

and while i have you all here, anybody heard the new osunlade compilation?

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 12 January 2006 01:11 (twenty years ago)

i wish that dj language nike mix was more readily available. it's still the best thing i've heard in this area.

cancer prone fat guy (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 12 January 2006 01:11 (twenty years ago)

spacek : closer musik :: steve spacek : matias aguayo

cancer prone fat guy (dubplatestyle), Thursday, 12 January 2006 01:12 (twenty years ago)

sa-ra's vocals are WAY cooler than spaceks. i think i've said it before, but he's a bit proper

jaxon (jaxon), Thursday, 12 January 2006 01:15 (twenty years ago)

Jaxon, I meant sell it to me as in "TELL ME WHY YOU LIKE IT"

adamrl (nordicskilla), Thursday, 12 January 2006 01:28 (twenty years ago)

I KNOW! :)-|-

jaxon (jaxon), Thursday, 12 January 2006 01:31 (twenty years ago)

oops. that was wicked retarded to begin w/and i fucked it up

jaxon (jaxon), Thursday, 12 January 2006 01:32 (twenty years ago)

btw, i'm posting from my company wifi shuttle bus. WOO HOOO!!

jaxon (jaxon), Thursday, 12 January 2006 01:36 (twenty years ago)

I was playing along.

Andy_K (Andy_K), Thursday, 12 January 2006 01:40 (twenty years ago)

Which I figured I owed to jaxon as he starts so many threads with so few replies which deserve lengthy posts from sympathetic people like me. And, unfortunately, I rarely have time for replies longer than five words.

Andy_K (Andy_K), Thursday, 12 January 2006 01:43 (twenty years ago)

haha I like it too, quelle surprise

Haikunym (Haikunym), Thursday, 12 January 2006 02:44 (twenty years ago)

so why is it that people on ILM are more receptive to spacek than other artists doing similar things? is it because he's british?

jaxon (jaxon), Thursday, 12 January 2006 03:13 (twenty years ago)

"my company wifi shuttle bus"

OK, now you're just saying words in a random sequence.

Eppy (Eppy), Thursday, 12 January 2006 03:24 (twenty years ago)

I think the album's got a great sound, and I like his voice, but the songs are fairly 2-dimensional...all you need to hear is the first minute or so.

Patrick South (Patrick South), Thursday, 12 January 2006 03:24 (twenty years ago)

btw, i'm posting from my company wifi shuttle bus. WOO HOOO!!

i totally got cocky there. as soon as i posted that the connection was gone

jaxon (jaxon), Thursday, 12 January 2006 03:30 (twenty years ago)

who else is doing things like this?

and for the record I like Space Shift but I don't love it, trying too hard to be ugly beautiful

Haikunym (Haikunym), Thursday, 12 January 2006 03:34 (twenty years ago)

Sa Ra is the best in whatever you'd call this genre. I can't wait for their proper album.

Patrick South (Patrick South), Thursday, 12 January 2006 04:35 (twenty years ago)

oh god dwele, child please; and I wouldn't count Jay Dee as someone different from, y'know, Jay Dee. but I'll read these threads now.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Thursday, 12 January 2006 05:56 (twenty years ago)

i like allen anthony!

vahid (vahid), Thursday, 12 January 2006 06:04 (twenty years ago)

oh god dwele, child please; and I wouldn't count Jay Dee as someone different from, y'know, Jay Dee. but I'll read these threads now.

you're not even speaking in haikus and i dont understand anything you're saying

jaxon (jaxon), Thursday, 12 January 2006 07:33 (twenty years ago)

what does this album sound like, seriously. i'm interested

rizzx, Thursday, 12 January 2006 08:21 (twenty years ago)

he lives in australia now, apparently.

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Thursday, 12 January 2006 08:22 (twenty years ago)

why i like it: it's trippy, funky, synthy, warm, soulful, obtuse melodies, layered vocals, thick bass, twiddlies, sleepy, sexy. it's pretty much what i look for in music.

also, does anyone know what the sample is in Rapid Rate? maybe not the sample, but who's used it before? it's totally obvious, but i can't place it because it's so fucking chopped up.

I have a friend who owns Sissy Spacek's album. The one song I heard wasn't bad.

clotpoll, Thursday, 12 January 2006 10:02 (twenty years ago)

there was a time that the spacek album from a few years ago and the spinoff by Custom Blue looked to really make it, but it all went to the wall.
shame all that lovely Tom Hingston packaging to waste.

is the new album better than 'curvatia' was ? i found that one a little to dry for my tastes ..

mark e (mark e), Thursday, 12 January 2006 10:22 (twenty years ago)

steve spacek is the fucking don, the new album is brilliant, and it will probably take the likes of the dissensus massive before all you other hipsters latch onto it

okoko, Thursday, 12 January 2006 11:49 (twenty years ago)

i heard a bit of this but nothing really grabbed me. still like 'Eve', and 'Amazing' from the second album 'Vintage Hi-Tek'.

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Thursday, 12 January 2006 13:38 (twenty years ago)

altho 'Countdown' ft. Bahamadia and Black Thought is the best thing he ever put his name to.

Sororah T Massacre (blueski), Thursday, 12 January 2006 13:39 (twenty years ago)

no way, thursdays on the new album is wonderful. all the best songs are in the last quarter of it

okok, Thursday, 12 January 2006 14:47 (twenty years ago)

two weeks pass...
I randomly found this on the iTunes store and started listening to some samples -- it sounds pretty great!

Abbadavid Berman (Hurting), Wednesday, 1 February 2006 05:02 (nineteen years ago)

i've said it before, but GB feat. Spacek - "Simply So (SA-RA Vocal Remix)" is probably the best thing i've heard from Spacek or Sa-Ra.

"Eve (Jay Dee Remix)" and "Dollar" aren't to shabby either.

i finally got "curvatia" tonight. found it used for 3.99 so i figured "what the hey".

SO. DAMN. GOOD.

should i get the steve spacek album or "vintage hi-tech" next?

DEEDS NOT WORDS (vahid), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 04:30 (nineteen years ago)

you know - sometimes spacek sounds like sting.

DEEDS NOT WORDS (vahid), Tuesday, 2 May 2006 05:01 (nineteen years ago)

hello?

DEEDS NOT WORDS (vahid), Friday, 5 May 2006 05:37 (nineteen years ago)

hi vahid. i was "out".

i think the two spacek proper albums are more song oriented and have that offbeat jay dee thump filtered w/a british electronic vibe. the solo steve spacek album is, as jess said, sort of not there and airy. still very beautiful, but almost an ambient version of the same. if you want either, hit me up and i can get them to you.

I love this album.

"Let the DOLLAR CIRCULATE! Let the DOLLAR CIRCULATE!"

Abbadavid Berman (Hurting), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 23:52 (nineteen years ago)

is it a Space(k) rock album?

coco the kid, Tuesday, 23 May 2006 23:54 (nineteen years ago)

You're thinking of Steve Miller.

Abbadavid Berman (Hurting), Tuesday, 23 May 2006 23:55 (nineteen years ago)

i still can't get into this. the sa-ra remix of that one track is hot though. horn-y.

eight months pass...

hes got a new album out as black pocket.

titchyschneiderMk2, Monday, 10 March 2008 10:46 (seventeen years ago)

i figured out the prob i have with steve spacek while listening to his album again - much as i like the music (although even that could do with a *bit* of punchiness every now and then - it can err a bit on the side of too tasteful), his voice is just too feathery and light (he reminds me of the guy from hot chip in that respect). it doesnt help that he records it so intimately/sings so softly and doesnt really do songs with strong melodies either - the closest this album gets to a 'normal' song is look into my eyes, which oddly sounds a bit out of place as its such a change from all the minimalism on this (also a bit of a MOR song, sounds like some weird sort of 'nice' winebar soul). apparently the black pocket album is all instrumental though, which could be interesting.

???

deej, Monday, 10 March 2008 18:15 (seventeen years ago)

if you read carefully dear deej, i said he reminds of me the guy from HC in the way his voice is a bit too light/quivery/diffident at times to really give his stuff gravitas.
