Well, I've been searching and can't seem to find that thread a from a couple weeks back where some kindly folks upped a few Dog Faced Hermans tracks. But... I volunteered at the local radio station's fund drive, and in doing so burned several records from their library on the basis of left-handed recommendations on ILM.
A few of the albums that I picked up were (I'm not gonna bore you with all of them):
The Dog Faced Hermans- Hum of Life, which I really like a lot. I have an Ex album that was sent as a promo, and didn't get into it all that much, but this is the sort of thing that I love— weird music, solid rhythm section, skronking horns...
Disco Inferno- DI Go Pop, which, again, I enjoy a lot. It was described on the station's review (taped to the liner notes) as 'boring Kraftwerk meets Stone Roses. Really dated,' which almost led me to balk, but I'm glad I didn't. I'm not sure how the reviewer got either of those bands out of there, or "boring."
Six Finger Satellite- The Pidgeon is the Most Popular Bird, which I also like a lot. Sounds like some lost connection between Gang of Four and Brainiac. They didn't have the album that everyone recommends (which seems to be the pattern there), but I still dig it.
My question is, based on those three bands/albums, what else should I seek out, especially the next time I'm down there. I already looked for Shellac and Jesus Lizard (and Rapeman) stuff, but they didn't have any. The best recommendations will be from the late '80s through early '90s (when CD promos really took over, as I don't generally have time to rip stuff from vinyl) and not well known enough to be stolen by malingering malcontents (see: their entire rap collection).
I like the electronics and the spazz and the skronk and the almost psychedelic. Not so much needing more hardcore or straight(ish) hard rock (meaning I don't need the Cop Shoot Cop or Killdozer recommendations, even though they didn't have anything by either). Any ideas?

on the DI tip look for life without buildings. seek out other ex stuff if they have it. it's mostly amazing. also look out for things by dawson, stretchheads, badgewearer, big flame. not sure how much of that you'll have at the station.

Dog Faced Hermans - C/D, S/DWhich Ex album did you not like? Try Instant, it's all improv and pretty different from their "song" stuff. They have sample mp3s of all their records on the Ex website..
Also seems like you might go for The Pop Group.

I think it's oop right now but should be reissued soon.
I didn't really realize this was your thread, js.
Other late 80's/early 90's faves... Bongwater? Thinking Fellers Union Local 282 (now THERE'S a band you should check out if you don't know 'em), maybe Unwound...
