Just found a very old advance copy of Brighten The Corners and seem to remember something odd about this particular advance.
There's an extra track (nothing additional, just an index-splice out of one of the instrumental segues), but isn't there something about this mix or some rough edits or something?
Just figured it out:"J vs. S" is not tacked onto the end of Shady Lane and is like 15 seconds longer (including handclaps and a fuzzier fade-out).
I know this is totally minor, but just an FYI for all the sickos.

November 18 will see the release of Mark IV in our series of deluxe reissues of the original Pavement albums. Brighten The Corners: Nicene Creedence Ed. sports the amazing packaging and deep contents that you’ve seen in our previous three deluxe editions. Like the first three editions, released every 2 years since 2000, this package treats Pavement’s fourth album right, with two CDs containing the entire 1997 record, remastered from the original tapes, plus all the B-sides and compilation tracks from that period, and a plethora of unreleased live and studio tracks as enumerated below. The CDs come in an embossed slipcase with a 62-page perfect-bound book containing photos, ephemera, writings and more. (The record will be out on Domino in Europe and Matador everywhere else.)
Matador will be doing a Buy Early Get Now promotion for this record, and the extras will be very special indeed. We’ll be announcing that shortly, so keep your eyes on this space.

Lot of good stuff on here. The only version of "FS:TPSoI" I have is an mp3 recorded off a .mov of that Dutch TV show.
Brighten the Corners is a huge underrated album. Lot of hate from some since it was Spiral Stairs who arranged the tracks and what not, but it's probably their best put-together album altogether.
Don't think I'll be around for the Terror Twilight reissue.
― Pleasant Plains, Tuesday, 23 September 2008 16:32 (seventeen years ago)
tis pretty clear from this tracklisting that there won't be a terror twilight reissue.
― matt h, Tuesday, 23 September 2008 16:38 (seventeen years ago)
I'm not sure this album has ever been underrated; but, yeah, I'm looking forward to the reissue.
― Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Tuesday, 23 September 2008 16:45 (seventeen years ago)
"No Tan Lines" is a pretty great b-side.
― jaymc, Tuesday, 23 September 2008 17:05 (seventeen years ago)
neato! looking forward to this. all of those b sides/radio sessions are pretty ace, and the stuff i've never heard looks nice. re: a terror twilight deluxe edition, i be they could do it. i think they tried recording a bunch of that stuff before hiring nigel godrich for the final album. might be interesting to hear those songs w/o the radioheadish touches.
― tylerw, Tuesday, 23 September 2008 17:52 (seventeen years ago)
i BET they could do it, durr
― tylerw, Tuesday, 23 September 2008 17:53 (seventeen years ago)
I'd be interested in liaising via gmail with someone for Pavement b-sides.
― Sick Mouthy (Scik Mouthy), Tuesday, 23 September 2008 18:43 (seventeen years ago)
Ah, good memories of this one! Pavement were in this 45 odd minutes show, Loladamusica. They were given the assignment to write a song in those 45 minutes, and this one was the result. I remember taping it from my video'd show through headphones-out onto cassette. Very nice song, this one.
― Le Bateau Ivre, Tuesday, 23 September 2008 18:57 (seventeen years ago)
info/tracklist changes over at www.matadorrecords.com/matablog. looks like the buy early thing is a vinyl only issue of the live album they prepared for 1998 but never released! coooooool. also, more of the kcrw sessions have been added.
― tylerw, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:00 (seventeen years ago)
Yay finally! This is the Pavement album I've been hearing the most lately, not with this in mind.
I think there might still be a Terror Twilight reissue, since there are no Major Leagues Ep tracks on this?
― sonderangerbot, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:21 (seventeen years ago)
Mmkay, 'For Sale! The Preston School of Industry' seems to be cancelled then? Well shucks.
― Le Bateau Ivre, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:22 (seventeen years ago)
xp My bad, Matador added some tracks on the website... It's a Rainy Day Sunshine Girl!?
― sonderangerbot, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:23 (seventeen years ago)
Yeah, that's pretty freaky
― Le Bateau Ivre, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:27 (seventeen years ago)
looks like there are a couple mp3 bonus tracks too, so maybe "preston" is one of 'em.
― tylerw, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:29 (seventeen years ago)
i will probably buy this just to get the live lp.
― mizzell, Tuesday, 7 October 2008 17:31 (seventeen years ago)
Why even offer a 128k stream preview on a remastered album?
― sonderangerbot, Monday, 13 October 2008 21:22 (seventeen years ago)
I'm still waiting for that Terror Twilight reissue, myself. To 2010!
― Nhex, Monday, 13 October 2008 23:08 (seventeen years ago)
That sounds extremely cool.

― mizzell, Wednesday, 3 December 2008 17:22 (seventeen years ago)
Oh, I saw allthe Pavement 'deluxe's', and wondered why BTC was the only one not 'specialled'
― Mark G, Wednesday, 3 December 2008 17:26 (seventeen years ago)
xp yeah I pre-ordered a while back, release is December 9 I think
― sonderangerbot, Wednesday, 3 December 2008 17:28 (seventeen years ago)
yeah it's coming soon. some people have already gotten theirs
― k3vin k., Wednesday, 3 December 2008 19:02 (seventeen years ago)
Got mine through Other Music in NYC - no crazy matador shipping rates and we got our LP's early!
― Kublakhan61, Wednesday, 3 December 2008 19:38 (seventeen years ago)
They've actually been releasing these one at a time for the past several year, BtC is just the latest addition.

years obv
Ha I remember buying the Shady Lane CD single and Goodier announcing on the Sunday....no 40 with a bullet!
There's some funny handwritten stuff in the inside cover about Sutton United or Brighton or something...it seemed very 'Pavement' to head straight for the lower divisions
― Edward Figaro, Thursday, 4 December 2008 17:43 (seventeen years ago)
"I think there might still be a Terror Twilight reissue, since there are no Major Leagues Ep tracks on this?"
Couldn't they fill an extra disk with versions of the hex?
― dan., Friday, 5 December 2008 16:47 (seventeen years ago)
the live lp is A+++++. great guitar and kula shaker gets dissed.
― mizzell, Monday, 15 December 2008 14:50 (seventeen years ago)
forgot how great "Harness Your Hopes" is.
― Alfred, Lord Sotosyn, Monday, 15 December 2008 14:55 (seventeen years ago)
yes, the live LP should put to rest any doubts about pavement being an excellent live band. not exactly "tight" but, uh, some kind of wonderful. a lot of the BTC tracks are definitely improved upon here. That said, the deluxe edition proper is great, too. I'm definitely a Pavement nerd, so that might have to be taken with a grain of salt. But the b-sides here are all very good, and the radio sessions (esp. the KCRW one) are fun as hell.
― tylerw, Monday, 15 December 2008 15:19 (seventeen years ago)
Agreed about the Pavement live album, although they could turn in a real stinker of a show. Is the live album taken from different shows? By the way, the banter between songs in the KCRW session was really funny, they should have included it....anybody have that or the live album in mp3?
― iago g., Wednesday, 21 January 2009 03:14 (seventeen years ago)
I think you can still find it here: http://stephenmalkmus.com/punbb/upload/viewtopic.php?id=8738&p=1along with about a bazillion other pavement live recordings ...
― tylerw, Wednesday, 21 January 2009 03:56 (seventeen years ago)
i too really enjoyed my live LP (i actually have two, as the first one arrived severely bent). "father to a sister of thought" is v pretty on it, and there's a great ad lib that i forget now

there are some good clips on YouTube of Letterman (and probably others) holding up the old CD longboxes
lol i just googled "letterman longbox" and this popped up:
