large ups for the staff to let this very funny clip to be shot at the store, and thus be complicit in the lampooning of Other's rep…

Roffles!!

I thought the shooting at the end was a bit much though. They should have just beat on the guy with a crowbar or something.

NoTimeBeforeTime (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 2 March 2006 03:47 (nineteen years ago)

some pretty funny shit.

Christopher Costello (CGC), Thursday, 2 March 2006 03:48 (nineteen years ago)

Very funny. Although I always got the impression that the OM crowd was too cool for Sujfan and Pitchfork and all that -- like the big name indie bands that they carry are the equivalent of Limp Bizkit at your average indie store, carried only because they sell but quietly looked down upon.

Yeah, To be honest I didn't expect the compliments towards Sufjan. I expected some sort of dirty look or something to ensue.

Tokyo Ghost Stories (Tokyo Ghost Stories), Thursday, 2 March 2006 04:28 (nineteen years ago)

We did this already.

Rockist_Scientist (RSLaRue), Thursday, 2 March 2006 04:37 (nineteen years ago)

though it got posted under a less than obvious thread heading:

Uh.. did you guys notice that Other Music has a used Latin Music section now?

Rockist_Scientist (RSLaRue), Thursday, 2 March 2006 04:38 (nineteen years ago)

Amazing, that was actually pretty funny.

You know, for all the attitude they are alleged to have over there, they seem to be a lot less concerned with micromanaging their taste than some people around here.

"Wait til I tell Sudgefan"

Whiney G. Weingarten (whineyg), Thursday, 2 March 2006 05:10 (nineteen years ago)

that was a waste of a couple of minutes

a real OM movie would have dudes breaking into fites over sun ra and hawkwind!

Autonomous University of Zacatecas (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 2 March 2006 05:16 (nineteen years ago)

why is it that you cant listen to the cd's in other music, and in most new york music store in general:
it's so stupid!

dfdsf, Thursday, 2 March 2006 05:36 (nineteen years ago)

Autonomous ... that was so OM of you. hahaha."Actually, ..."

Cameron Octigan (Cameron Octigan), Thursday, 2 March 2006 05:40 (nineteen years ago)

i know that they DO carry pavement albums because the first time i saw that guru guru cover that pavement homagified, i went and grabbed OM's copy of wowee zowee to compare. that was a long time ago, but they still carry lots of mainstreamish stuff...

Autonomous University of Zacatecas (Jody Beth Rosen), Thursday, 2 March 2006 06:03 (nineteen years ago)

of course they carry pavement albums!

the bit where the guy speaks japanese was funny. i recognize the last customer from a sonic commercial.

amateurist0, Thursday, 2 March 2006 06:14 (nineteen years ago)

It's really funny, but yeah, it's really way way way off from the actual culture at the store! It'd be more likely that they'd be high hiving over Sublime Frequencies or whatever obscure reissue just showed up in the shop than Pfork hits. Though it should be noted that those Pfork hits do dominate their sales charts.

The hat-wearing employee looks so unbelievably familiar to me but I can't place him.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Thursday, 2 March 2006 08:07 (nineteen years ago)

Hat wearing dude is on Conan O'Brien a lot for the mid-show skit. Most often as the clap & yell guy in the audience (It took me awhile to place him too!)

Phil Dokes (sunny), Friday, 3 March 2006 01:38 (nineteen years ago)

Starting with the line about the Arctic Monkeys, you knew it was going to "get it totally wrong." Wasted opportunity!

Don't quit your day jobs. How lazy and predictable was that? Geez.

Elastique (Elastique), Friday, 3 March 2006 14:11 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, one guy's on Conan O'Brien, and I believe the other employee is Aziz Ansari. The video's so muddled and crappy on this screen that I'm not entirely sure, though.

And the material may not be so hot, but I think those two dudes' performances are rather chuckle-worthy.

ample parking (Garrett Martin), Friday, 3 March 2006 14:57 (nineteen years ago)

The "employees" are Andy Blitz and Aziz Ansari. The guy who gets shot is Brian Huskey, who is on VH1 a lot.

Uhmm... their day jobs are as comedians. The last guy from the Sonic commercials does improv at Upright Citizen's Brigade theatre and the guy with the hat works at Conan.

I thought it was funny. It didn't particularly satire Other Music or the indie scene really, but I thought it was funny when he said "he celebrates black history month in november."

it's a matter of trust

That doesn't bode well for their future.
