i want it! i did not know about it! i will buy one!

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 15:01 (twenty years ago)

me too!

hank (hank s), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 15:44 (twenty years ago)

it sounds like other flin flon [and by proxy, unrest] records, but i dont see this as a bad thing. only mild disappointment is that the best song is repeated twice on the record and there's not much difference between the two takes.

anyway, yes, you should totally buy it. caveat emptor: apparently the LP version of the album has a different mix, according to my friend.

mts (theoreticalgirl), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 16:29 (twenty years ago)

I didn't know about it either. _Boo-Boo_ is way, WAY up there on my personal hit parade; on a first listen, this one's not quite so high up, I"m afraid.

Douglas (Douglas), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 16:33 (twenty years ago)

That's awesome that they're doing the "alternate mix" LP like they did with BOO BOO.

Its growing on me fast.

C'mon, feet! (cmon_feet), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 16:39 (twenty years ago)

this album works well on repeat.

mts (theoreticalgirl), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 17:11 (twenty years ago)

The big difference between Unrest and Flin Flon is that Flin Flon uses no chords, just single notes, making them an even more pared-down rhythmic pop powerhouse.

does anyone else love mark's canada's green highways album as much as i do? i love it a bunch.

scott seward (scott seward), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 19:02 (twenty years ago)

how do others here feel about Mark's Rhonda Harris LP?...I haven't listened to it in the proverbial donkey's years...was lukewarm to it back then (mid-90's?)...worth another go?

hank (hank s), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 19:39 (twenty years ago)

They did a "version" LP of their first album too, but I never heard that one. The new one's hot shit.

I'd actually given up on Teenbeat, but they're batting 1.000 this year so far (the Bossanova album is killer too).

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Tuesday, 4 April 2006 20:25 (twenty years ago)

oh who cares about the rest of mark robinson's lps? this one is goood.

mts (theoreticalgirl), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 07:15 (twenty years ago)

Wow, I've come a long way since my full fledged Teenbeat Phase. I need to look into this.

NO! Do it more!

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Thursday, 6 April 2006 01:20 (twenty years ago)

no, no. that time in my life is over.

mts (theoreticalgirl), Thursday, 6 April 2006 02:06 (twenty years ago)

Actually, the song that's repeated twice is the exact same mix.
It's what we like to call, an 'encore'.
Deserved or not.

Mark Robinson, Thursday, 13 April 2006 01:07 (twenty years ago)

i luv you, mark. is this rekkerd in stores yet? i'm gonna get a copy.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 13 April 2006 01:13 (twenty years ago)

One of my great regrets in life is missing the Unrest show that was held in my friend Fud's basement. I learned about it an hour too late. I also regret that I forgot to go to college.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 13 April 2006 01:44 (twenty years ago)

fuck i'm psyched about this! yay.

bummed i missed the teenbeat fest, but aside from eggs i'd already seen the older acts i wanted to, BITD...

there needs to be a full-on eggs reappraisal but that's another thread (nd -- this being ilm, there are probably at least three, right?)

Mike McG, Thursday, 13 April 2006 01:53 (twenty years ago)

only one! (and the thread title is slightly wrong)

The Eggs

electric sound of jim (and why not) (electricsound), Thursday, 13 April 2006 01:56 (twenty years ago)

three months pass...
Dixie is so fucking great.

I liked the direction of the more metronomic tracks on Chicoutimi, however this one is just weird, high energy, loud, and boppy all the way through... probably their best album.

San Diva Gyna (and a Masala DOsaNUT on the side) (donut), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 04:39 (nineteen years ago)

possible tour in the works?

mts (theoreticalgirl), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 19:10 (nineteen years ago)

Please! Has Flin Flon ever hit the West Coast? Do I have to call the KEXP mafia or something?

San Diva Gyna (and a Masala DOsaNUT on the side) (donut), Wednesday, 19 July 2006 23:49 (nineteen years ago)

i dont know if there's going to be a west coast jaunt.
