its hilarious!

I like that the singer's cadences seem to belong to a country guy: i wonder if in fact that the guy is a country singer, and chose Blink 182/Green Day mall punk to speak to a different constituency, or, rilly, to bait Bush bashers. I also note the list format of the lyrix, a la "We didn't Start the fire" and the guitar lick, which seems to evoke "nyah, nyah, nyah."

further proving that as long as you dress it up in enough flags and bush-cheney '04 pins, the red staters will gobble up any simplistic jingoistic tripe, no matter how aesthetically awful

"He owns eleven pairs of sneakers, hasn't worn anything but jeans in a year, and won't shut up about the latest Death Cab For Cutie CD. But he is no kid. He is among the ascendant breed of grown-up who has redefined aldulthood as we knew it and killed off the generation gap."

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 20:42 (twenty years ago)

From one of their myspace friends:

"Rock on! Let's make liberalism history!"

Daniel Peterson (polkaholic), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 20:48 (twenty years ago)

Cage match!
This tripe vs. NOFX's "Idiot son of an asshole" song

(I liked this tune better when it was called "We Didn't Start the Fire" and it was by Billy Joel*)

*Actually, I didn't really like that song either.

Matt Carlson (mattsoncarlhew), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 21:24 (twenty years ago)

NOFX sucks donkey dick.

M@tt He1geson (Matt Helgeson), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 22:11 (twenty years ago)

Didn't you guys know? Pop punk is the oompah music of the next Bierhall Putsch. If American ever did become genuinely fascist, it would by like the worst totalitarianism ever, culturally speaking.

Rodeos, bad country rock, pop punk, Super Bowl extravaganzas, barbeques, state sponsored frat keggers, fireworks, and our secret police will wear urban camo and fanny packs.

James Slone (Freon Trotsky), Wednesday, 5 April 2006 22:15 (twenty years ago)

george bush rocks

I'm guessing that the number of people, red staters or otherwise, who "gobble this up" will be statistically insignificant. A couple of minutes of free publicity on Fox News does not a breakout hit make.

Priceless MySpace quote:
"You guys rock so hard it should be illegal (not really though, we need to preserve freedom of speech)."
