TV on the Radio - Return to Cookie Mountain

ive had this a few weeks now. it takes a long time to get into, for me at least. its not as innovative as their other stuff, not by a long shot, its a much more standard sound for TVOTR in my opinion, which is a real dissapointment for those who liked them for their avant-garde/electronic-embrace but theres a larger spread of better songs on this album (even if they sound overlaboured and overproduced at times), which is good. but i still prefer their old, more unorthodox sound.... i suppose they made this album with the intention of getting a deal with a major, so wanted to make something more accessible to everyone, without losing what made them so great. not sure theyve done that exactly, at times i think they would have been better off if they just did a more straightforward live record (cos live, theyre brilliant and the new songs sound fantastic) cos a lot of the songs seem quite drowned by overdubbing and overlayering and all the rest of it here.
