A question about THE RETURN OF DR. OCTAGON

I bought the album, but literally everywhere I turn, there's someone harrumphing about how it's not endorsed by Kool Keith and is, in fact, a cash-hungry rhyme-exhumation in the vein of DR. OCTAGON II, a notorious bootleg from a few years back. Does anyone know if this is an "official" release and if the naysayers are confusing RETURN with DR. OCTAGON II (or just refusing to acknowledge it as authentic because of Dan The Automator's absence) and being bullheadedly militant? I haven't been able to find anything to confirm either possibility.
