Didn't know this was (coming) out - it was waiting unannounced in the racks for me to pick it up! Which I did. All (well, most) those greats remixes collected. Haven't heard the mix-cd yet.
― willem, Sunday, 30 September 2007 16:30 (eighteen years ago)
i was listening to his remix of "want 2 need 2" a couple days ago, and it's kinda incredible.
― jermainetwo, Sunday, 30 September 2007 17:19 (eighteen years ago)
It is. And so is the mix-cd. First few tracks, mostly new/alternate stuff, make up a moody yet luscious intro and then his own remix of "Moan" comes in and whoahawesomeshivers..
― willem, Sunday, 30 September 2007 19:37 (eighteen years ago)
(would've liked the "du what u du" remix to be included on cd2 but you can't have it all i guess)
― willem, Sunday, 30 September 2007 19:39 (eighteen years ago)
seeing him here in vancouver on wednesday playing as a three piece.....really looking forward to it.
― drone/a/sore, Monday, 1 October 2007 04:34 (eighteen years ago)
You are very lucky! I'd love to see him live.
Great to know this is out there now, I'm happy to get most of his remixes together.
― kv_nol, Monday, 1 October 2007 14:35 (eighteen years ago)
Not sure where this should go but the guy just released a pretty interesting 'all back to mine' styled comp: "HARBOUR BOAT TRIPS - COPENHAGEN"
― baaderonixx, Thursday, 11 June 2009 09:49 (sixteen years ago)
^^it's a terrific comp and a great idea for a series like this - really happy he put rennie foster's 'devil's water' on, that tune needs a whole lot more love - it's like a techno version of pj harvey's white chalk aesthetic
― lex pretend, Thursday, 11 June 2009 10:29 (sixteen years ago)
is it series though?
― baaderonixx, Thursday, 11 June 2009 10:32 (sixteen years ago)
IIRC it says "harbour boat trips 01" implying that others will be following
― lex pretend, Thursday, 11 June 2009 10:33 (sixteen years ago)
Interesting tracklisting - starting with Grouper and Gravenhurst is good with me. I'm assuming this is more contemplative than banging, right?
― Matt DC, Thursday, 11 June 2009 10:53 (sixteen years ago)
it's kind of like balearic music for grey, drizzly mornings
― lex pretend, Thursday, 11 June 2009 10:56 (sixteen years ago)
and yeah def "moody" rather than "banging"
― lex pretend, Thursday, 11 June 2009 10:57 (sixteen years ago)
Yachtgaze.
― Stevie T, Thursday, 11 June 2009 10:58 (sixteen years ago)
Actually, deckshoegaze is better.
^^^ New genre tag of the year (xpost rong)
― Matt DC, Thursday, 11 June 2009 10:59 (sixteen years ago)
yeah i like this comp too - good atmosphere and lots of interesting choices
― braveclub, Thursday, 11 June 2009 11:57 (sixteen years ago)
OTM
― baaderonixx, Thursday, 11 June 2009 12:26 (sixteen years ago)
although by the end of the comp, as night sets in, the yacht cruises the seedier industrial section of the harbour for a while, where it unexpectedly discovers a warehouse party blasting "Tainted Love"
― baaderonixx, Thursday, 11 June 2009 12:36 (sixteen years ago)
I would like a video to accompany this.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 11 June 2009 13:30 (sixteen years ago)
That's Grammy nominee Trentemoller to you.
― Nuyorican oatmeal (jaymc), Friday, 4 December 2009 22:06 (sixteen years ago)
I'm pretty psyched for Into The Great Wide Yonder, which is due out June 7th. Anders has let his fandom of the dream westerns of Mazzy Star and Chris Isaak (he did a dubby white-label remix of Wicked Game) out of the stable. Marie Fisker, who did vocal duties on a 2008 Sods cover remixed by AT, returns her with her best Hope Sandoval tribute on the first single:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F-WDiPygwa0
There's also a proper video, at Fisker's site.

is she the one who did the vocals on Kasper Björke's "Doesn't Matter"? Amazing stuff
― licorice oratorio (baaderonixx), Monday, 5 April 2010 08:22 (sixteen years ago)
On first listen to this it sounds terrific, more downtempo than I expected but carries a real weight, especially on the vocal tracks. Not convinced by the surf guitar track, not that it's a dud just it seems out of keeping with the rest of the album.
― State Attorney Foxhart Cubycheck (Billy Dods), Sunday, 6 June 2010 19:54 (fifteen years ago)
quite like Neverglade but man this is a gloomy affair
― mdskltr (blueski), Sunday, 6 June 2010 20:14 (fifteen years ago)
I keep noticing that "Even Though You're With Another Girl" uses that drum sound from Iggy Pop's Nightclubbing (and Nine Inch Nails' Closer) :-/
― StanM, Sunday, 6 June 2010 20:21 (fifteen years ago)
I wish he had another bonus disc's worth of tech-house tracks to pair with this...
― Scelsi Hotel (Paul in Santa Cruz), Sunday, 6 June 2010 21:07 (fifteen years ago)
This is how this year's Massive Attack album should have sounded, it sounded fantastic on first listen. Helps that I didn't come to it expecting house music, though, but Trentemoller is one producer I really don't mind stepping away from the dancefloor.
― Matt DC, Monday, 7 June 2010 08:50 (fifteen years ago)
It's a grower. I thought it was pretty boring and going nowhere for a while but now I'm starting to like it a lot. Can't wait for the remixes. :-)
― StanM, Monday, 7 June 2010 08:57 (fifteen years ago)
This is how this year's Massive Attack album should have sounded
there's nothing on this as good as (or really anything like) Girl I Love You and Psyche tho
― mdskltr (blueski), Monday, 7 June 2010 11:28 (fifteen years ago)
Sounding good, way more concise than his somewhat sprawling last one. Not bothered by the gloominess, he does it very well. It's arctic pine forests rather than wet grey afternoons.
― rhythm fixated member (chap), Monday, 7 June 2010 20:45 (fifteen years ago)
Can see this growing to be my favourite of the year so far, actually (not that I've acquired that many new releases recently).
― rhythm fixated member (chap), Monday, 7 June 2010 20:53 (fifteen years ago)
actually, now that you have got me all interested, that sycamore feeling track is not a million miles away from the recent stuff by unkle.
― mark e, Monday, 7 June 2010 21:12 (fifteen years ago)
I think its bleakness is overstated, it's not laugh-a-minute but I think he's going for elemental rather than doom-laden. What he's really, really good at, on this evidence, is light and shade - tracks like Past The Beginning of the End are like stormy skies where the sun keeps shining through behind the clouds.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 8 June 2010 09:37 (fifteen years ago)
I'd say Portishead would be a more apt comparison than Massive Attack, cf Past The Beginning...
― Daniel Giraffe, Tuesday, 8 June 2010 11:37 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah, the snare rolls in that tune are straight out of We Carry On.
― rhythm fixated member (chap), Tuesday, 8 June 2010 12:28 (fifteen years ago)
I would like to hear this album.
― I just wish he hadn't adopted the "ilxor" moniker (ilxor), Tuesday, 8 June 2010 14:21 (fifteen years ago)
Yeah it's not a million miles from Third actually, Silence and The Rip especially.
― Matt DC, Tuesday, 8 June 2010 14:28 (fifteen years ago)
It's on spotify if you have access to it http://open.spotify.com/album/2hnNaT9PKxuHsh0gyWfIyj
Changed my opinion about 'Silver Surfer, Ghost Rider Go!!!', not only does it work, it feels necessary in the context of the album, a dayglo splash of red amongst the greys and blacks. I hear hints of Orbital's 'The Box' on 'Haxan' and a similarly iconoclastic use of sampling too.
― State Attorney Foxhart Cubycheck (Billy Dods), Tuesday, 8 June 2010 14:34 (fifteen years ago)
hope this moody non-dance album means he goes back to playing (internationally) live {ie not dex-n-fx} again, the show in 2007 was so so good [and GOTH AS FUCK]
― on some kinda serial killer ish (sic), Tuesday, 8 June 2010 14:44 (fifteen years ago)
oh hey!
“I do not know the specific dates, but hopefully in February or March next year,” Trentemøller revealed. “We are really looking forward to it, as I love playing in Australia.”

― rhythm fixated member (chap), Thursday, 10 June 2010 01:58 (fifteen years ago)
uses that drum sound
hate
― cutty, Thursday, 10 June 2010 02:01 (fifteen years ago)
Are you hating this particular drum sound, people who discuss drum sounds, or drum sounds in general?
― rhythm fixated member (chap), Thursday, 10 June 2010 15:41 (fifteen years ago)
that particular drum sound in that particular song is really obnoxious
― cutty, Thursday, 10 June 2010 15:50 (fifteen years ago)
I have stayed up all night on dubious substances and this album is really hitting the spot as I go to sleep.

The whole album is phenomenal, just sounds HUGE but so detailed at the same time. Still not sure about the surf guitar one but that's largely just because it breaks the spell of the rest.
― Matt DC, Monday, 6 September 2010 12:22 (fifteen years ago)
Seemed like an epic snooze to me, wish I could summon up the enthusiasm to revisit.
― Neggin' you crapative (NickB), Monday, 6 September 2010 12:26 (fifteen years ago)
the album sounds lovely but after a few listens it's not something i'm ever desperate to hear or that sticks in the mind too much. pretty nice though. i've probably said this upthread but his harbour boat trips comp from last year is really underrated, and as autumn draws in, i'm sure i'll be revisiting it soon enough.
― لوووووووووووووووووووول (lex pretend), Monday, 6 September 2010 12:32 (fifteen years ago)
yeah this is an autumn album for sure
― cutty, Tuesday, 7 September 2010 02:27 (fifteen years ago)
looks like this album kinda dropped off the planet, and so far hasn't featured in any EOY lists.shame.it suits my late night rather well.

His former bandmates DJ T.O.M. and Buda (Lulu Rouge) just released a second album The Song is in the Drum. Its excellent, and sounds more Trentemøller-esque than this.

― Me So Hormetic (Sanpaku), Tuesday, 4 June 2013 23:53 (twelve years ago)
New album is really good. Yeah it's pretty indie but god I wish more indie records were produced like this. He should definitely produce an entire Low album.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 3 October 2013 15:06 (twelve years ago)
I find Low quite boring. Does it sound like Low?
― I wish to incorporate disco into my small business (chap), Thursday, 3 October 2013 15:16 (twelve years ago)
The first track is a collaboration with Low.
― Matt DC, Thursday, 3 October 2013 15:18 (twelve years ago)
This is pretty nice actually. Good year for downbeat electronic stuff.
