I never bother with those OP etc type threads but I'd go crazy if we can't discuss all those magazine albums of year polls. (apart from pazz & jop as we don't really need a dozen threads discussing the previous thread before it on that like last year).

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Thursday, 26 October 2006 14:21 (eighteen years ago)

*OPO POO etc
I really need to check what I type before I hit submit. You would've thought I'd have learned to do that by now after all these years.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Thursday, 26 October 2006 14:22 (eighteen years ago)

1. The Beatles - Revolver
5. Farida - Mawal & Maqamat Iraqi
11. Gemstar-N-Bigmato - Mas Pure
17. La Crema - Party con la Crema
18. the oud

84. modern harpsichord music

That's exactly why they're posted.

Brigadier Lethbridge-Pfunkboy (Kerr), Thursday, 26 October 2006 14:38 (eighteen years ago)

but I'd go crazy if we can't discuss all those magazine albums of year polls.

these are an even bigger waste of time - never anything new about the lists so nothing new to say about them

;_; (blueski), Thursday, 26 October 2006 14:39 (eighteen years ago)

the trouble is you can't really complain if you haven't started any decent threads yourself in the last couple of years (ulp...)

;_; (blueski), Thursday, 26 October 2006 14:41 (eighteen years ago)

to be fair, last year's list threads did come up with perhaps ilx's BIGGEST EVER MEME.

all the more reason to cram in all the list ideas i'd been storing in my mind before october's end!

what are your favourite second to last tracks on your least favourite records?

which records would you take on a comet with you (pox)?

if god said that your third favourite song on ok computer had to be merged with your second least favourite song on the velvet underground and nico, on a mixtape comprising of two songs, what would the two songs be?

You've Got Scourage On Your Breath (Haberdager), Thursday, 26 October 2006 15:22 (eighteen years ago)

i will admit that those 'favourite song' based list threads do tend to follow a very similar trajectory each time, with the same bands/records mentioned over and over again. i think i've read the same thing about 'sister ray' in about 30 different threads. it does seem that the lists provoke more of a repetitive, streamlined style of discussion (not such a great thing) :/

haha, i've read that you quite enjoy a pint of beer, louis. we definitely have that in common as well

Charlie Howard (the sphinx), Thursday, 26 October 2006 15:25 (eighteen years ago)

two guys that like beer and sports?....uncanny!

J. Grizzle (trainsmoke), Thursday, 26 October 2006 15:26 (eighteen years ago)

sister ray is too short, features too much organ, and not enough zither.

'a' pint ;-)

beer, sports...and Wilco though???

You've Got Scourage On Your Breath (Haberdager), Thursday, 26 October 2006 15:29 (eighteen years ago)

ILM list threads have pretty much killed the compulsive list habit I developed in my teens. So, er, that's good I guess

DJ Mencap (DJ Mencap), Thursday, 26 October 2006 15:31 (eighteen years ago)

beer, sports...and Wilco though???

ah, then a rare class indeed. Ubermensch!

J. Grizzle (trainsmoke), Thursday, 26 October 2006 15:31 (eighteen years ago)

also, i suspect you'd find a relatively high percentage of sport-haters on ILM. and in general i sense a surprising lack of love for wilco :(

Charlie Howard (the sphinx), Thursday, 26 October 2006 15:33 (eighteen years ago)

also, i suspect you'd find a relatively high percentage of sport-haters on ILM. and in general i sense a surprising lack of love for wilco :(

i've noticed the Wilco denegration, but I have been impressed by the vast amount of knowledge ILMers display on 70's-80's basketballers...

J. Grizzle (trainsmoke), Thursday, 26 October 2006 15:35 (eighteen years ago)

i love sport (singular: only tennis)
i like beer (but prefer wine)
i loathe wilco

Good idea. We can get Geir involved in that!

wordy rappaport (EstieButtez1), Thursday, 2 November 2006 16:12 (eighteen years ago)

Can we just lock this thread altogether now? Geoff's post aside, there's nothing new here except increasingly lame attempts at humour and impotent tantrums masquerading as controversial opinion.

now go and eat an egg and anchovy sandwich

Ronan (Ronan), Thursday, 2 November 2006 16:24 (eighteen years ago)

egg and...anchovy? do those exist?

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 2 November 2006 16:25 (eighteen years ago)

esteban, what is your opinion, on anything? don't make a big fucking deal out of it like a 13 year old, just tell us. not too hard.

geoff (gcannon), Thursday, 2 November 2006 16:26 (eighteen years ago)

i've had chili/anchovy/egg tapas before.

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Thursday, 2 November 2006 16:26 (eighteen years ago)

it's a heartbreaker, but i can't remember any of your opinions, geoff. i do know that esteban is a trenchant critic of british girl bands and their fans.

benrique (Enrique), Thursday, 2 November 2006 16:27 (eighteen years ago)

Chilli, anchovy and egg all together? How does that taste?

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 2 November 2006 16:27 (eighteen years ago)

haha well i stay clear of ilm mostly!!

i like cameo a lot, check the noiz bored.

geoff (gcannon), Thursday, 2 November 2006 16:28 (eighteen years ago)

disgusting, i expect! but i hate chillis and anchovies so i would say that.

eggs are AMAZING though

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 2 November 2006 16:29 (eighteen years ago)

esteban, what is your opinion, on anything?

I still think there is still a massive shortfall of synths in modern music.

I loathe anchovy.

This was an OK question. Not bad but not great either.

Also, I don't hate all British girl bands!

wordy rappaport (EstieButtez1), Thursday, 2 November 2006 16:29 (eighteen years ago)

it was more of a 'pincho' than a tapas.

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Thursday, 2 November 2006 16:30 (eighteen years ago)

+ i write occasionally for the free weekly in minneapolis, and IN MY OPINION it is gauche to link yr own writing on ilx or even refer to it.

geoff (gcannon), Thursday, 2 November 2006 16:31 (eighteen years ago)

I have half a mind to try that chilli and anchovy combo though. It sounds like the kind of hugely unpleasant mix of flavours that would appeal to me. Especially with added lemon juice. Washed down with tequila.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 2 November 2006 16:32 (eighteen years ago)

I still think there is still a massive shortfall of synths in modern music.

I loathe anchovy.

i agree on both counts!

what actually was it though alan? anchovies garnished with some unholy egg (boiled?) and chilli mixture?

The Lex (The Lex), Thursday, 2 November 2006 16:33 (eighteen years ago)

other boards to try which ILx types frequent:

http://community.livejournal.com/poptimists/ (they seem to like lists, well polls)

http://www.dissensus.com/ (not so hot on lists but like hauntology. john searle reported "un-shook")

pscott (elwisty), Thursday, 2 November 2006 16:33 (eighteen years ago)

anchovies are the best. eating them suddently makes it 1938.

geoff (gcannon), Thursday, 2 November 2006 16:33 (eighteen years ago)

polls would save ILM!

what about plugging your own band lol

banrique (blueski), Thursday, 2 November 2006 16:36 (eighteen years ago)

also, in my opinion, this sandwich would kick ass: heavy rye bread, provologne, a little horseradish, sprouts, cucumber, sliced avocado, anchovy, salt and pepper.

geoff (gcannon), Thursday, 2 November 2006 16:39 (eighteen years ago)

People who put anchovies in a Caesar Salad deserve to be shot.

it was a lovely fresh green chili skewered onto a bit of boiled egg and... wait maybe it was a prawn. OH NOES. forget everything. i just love anchovies so they fall into the gaps of all my memories. which makes for some great reminiscing i can tell you. did i ever tell you about the time i fell into the park pond while driving around on my anchovy.

28 years old i was

Britain's Obtusest Shepherd (Alan), Thursday, 2 November 2006 16:40 (eighteen years ago)

Prawns make me violently ill which is annoying as I love all other seafood but most restaurants appear to chuck prawns into any seafood dish as a matter of course. It's like trying to go to a Chinese restaurant with a nut allergy.

Matt DC (Matt DC), Thursday, 2 November 2006 16:54 (eighteen years ago)
