Herman Dune

They're a Scandinavian freak-folk group, no? Their cover of the Carter Family's "Chewing Gum" captures the spirit of depression-era America so faithfuly that it throws the entire New Weird America movement into irrelevance.

Please. I like this band a lot, but that sort of hyperbole is divisive and inaccurate. Who are you to say what's relevant? What 'movement?'

Pink Eye Pajama Party (Roger Fidelity), Saturday, 11 November 2006 06:00 (nineteen years ago)

yeah, that statement is laugably ridiculous and wrong

one of my favourite bands in the world right now, new album aside.

sean gramophone (Sean M), Saturday, 11 November 2006 16:36 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I heart Herman Dune so much, but the last two albums have just been kinda... there. A new "Mas Cambios" would pretty much be an automatic album of the year for me.

dommy p is alright WHICH IS A LOT MORE THAN I CAN SAY ABOUT A LOT OF PEOPLE (Dom, Saturday, 11 November 2006 16:38 (nineteen years ago)

I thought they were really weak. Weak voice, weak stage presence. weak songs. generally seemed a bit arrogant like some sort of ridiculous troup of international jet setting neo folk hipsters

wow, I REALLY don't like them.

zippezappy (doomed), Saturday, 11 November 2006 17:18 (nineteen years ago)

Really like them. Consistently interesting, unique lyrics and nice melodies. No similarity to Palace Music whatsoever, as far as I can tell, from any album by either band.

Tiki Theater Xymposium (Bent Over at the Arclight), Saturday, 11 November 2006 17:28 (nineteen years ago)

then we surely shall just agree to disagree

I think 'Not On Top' is my favourite of theirs. And they're great live, imho.

Oh well.

I keep meaning to pick up an album- still haven't, as I can't find them anywhere- but I love the two cover tunes Andre Herman Dune has released on Guillaume Sorge compilations

Telephonething (Telephonething), Sunday, 12 November 2006 11:52 (nineteen years ago)

Oh what the hell? I didn't even hit Submit...anyway, meant to say: "Give Me Some of Your Love" on the Uovo "Pink" issue CD, and "Smalltown Boy" on Dirty Diamonds III.

Telephonething (Telephonething), Sunday, 12 November 2006 11:53 (nineteen years ago)

Not on Top is def one of my favourite albums of this century so far. (see also: milk-eyed mender, funeral, destroyer's rubies)

Catbirdseat loves this shit. Like, eats-it-up-with-a-spoon-loves-it.

brokenfuses (brokenfuses), Tuesday, 14 November 2006 07:17 (nineteen years ago)

the new album is good but is taking me a little adjusting-to. it feels like it's about 3 songs too many.
