Are people excited for this/have people played it yet?

Erm, I meant to keep typing...

Seriously, though, do people have any opinions about this? Currently #6 on Amazon's "Technology & Games"-type list. Sort of amazing, as I see it--a music game that finally deserves the hype by managing to kind of approximate the music-making experience. I never got that with Parappa, for example.

When I saw Yo La Tengo in Boston, I stood next to the CEO of the Guitar Hero software company, Harmonix. Just wait for the YLT/GH ep, because it's coming. Also, Harmonix bought by MTV for $180 million? Get ready to be consumed.

GH2 is much better than the first game in a lot of nuanced ways, but if like me you've played the first game to death, GH2 lack of novelty hurts it a bit. If you haven't played the first one, get GH2 instead. But I'm not sure anyone needs two of these games.

But having two guitars though...

It's pretty interesting though that I now have 8 year old cousins who know the words to Iron Man.

I heard about this game, and was reminded that I had actually conceived of it about 15 years ago. In my version you can choose to be Eddie, Jimmy, Angus, Ace, Randy, etc. Then you choose your stadium, and your axe. Each character & setting has different attributes. Before you take the stage you choose what to drink, smoke, or sniff. (A little can enhance your performance, too much can hinder it or make you pass out). Be careful not to get electricuted, or blinded by a flying bra. Rock the house. If you're Pete Townsend do the windmill thing. If you're Angus or Randy then the singer may come over and pick you up. But keep plating! If you're hot you make it to the Encore levels! Then it's groupies galore! Is Guitar Hero anything at all like this?

Very much so, apart from getting to "be" Angus or Ace or etc. But you select a character, play songs by Eddie, Jimi, Ace, and Randy, choose a "venue", choose a guitar. No electrocution issues, and your stage performance is entirely unrelated to gameplay, which is pretty much exclusively about playing the songs as well as you can given the fretless, button-based guitar controller.

Beaten all on expert except "Free Bird" and "Jordan," which will take me months, if at all.

Better gameplay than I, slightly lesser song selection though more varied and more revelatory ("Tattooed Love Boys" = my new 2nd fav Pretenders song), infinitely better multi-player. Great shit.
