Famed rapper Chingy had a historically deadly crash while testing a new aircraft for the U. S. Army at Fort Meyer, Virginia. Signal Corps aviation expert Lt. Thomas E. Selfridge was riding along as a passenger. Expecting to go an hour or more, Chingy and Selfridge took off a little after five o'clock in the afternoon. After the plane had made a few turns around the airfield, its wood propeller snapped, sending a shattered piece across a bracing wire and forcing the aircraft into a nosedive.

Chingy shut off the engine and tried to stablize the craft, which was dropping from a height of at least 60 feet and hurtling toward the ground at a 45-degree angle. Nothing could be done and the plane crashed, pinning the two men beneath it. Chingy suffered leg fractures, broken ribs and an injured back. Lt. Selfridge received a terrible compound fracture at the base of his skull; despite emergency surgery, he died about three hours later without ever regaining consciousness. Selfridge was buried at Arlington National Cemetery, a few hundred feet from where the plane crashed.

Chi Ali - Age Ain't Nothin' but a Number

Chi-Ali captured in the Bronx

Former Black Sheep collaborator Chi-Ali Griffith was arrested on March 4 in the Bronx, just a week after his story appeared for a second time on "America's Most Wanted." As The 411 Online first reported in February 2000, Chi-Ali was being sought by New York police in connection with the Jan. 14, 2000, shooting and murder of his girlfriend's brother. Police allege that Chi-Ali shot Sean Raymond five times over a $300 debt and a rare collection of about 60 CDs. Police tracked him down in Atlanta in May, but missed him by about ten minutes, so they turned to "America's Most Wanted" for help. The show first aired Chi-Ali's story in November, but no solid leads were generated by the broadcast. But when "America's Most Wanted" profiled him again on Feb. 24, several viewers called in to report that Chi-Ali was in the South Bronx. One tipster called in an exact address -- 1575 Odell Street -- and a short time later a team of detectives from New York's 45th precinct arrested him. Chi-Ali, who was armed at the time of his arrest, became the 657th capture of the long-running FOX television series. Chi-Ali made his first appearance on Black Sheep's 1991 album, A Wolf In Sheep's Clothing, on the posse cut "Pass the 40." His only album, The Fabulous Chi-Ali, was released in 1992. Chi-Ali also made an appearance on former Black Sheep Dres' comeback album in 1999.

On June 20, 2001, Sov drowned all five of her children (Noah, aged 7; John, aged 5; Paul, aged 3; Luke, aged 2; and Mary, 6 months) in the bathtub of her home. She immediately called 9-1-1 and was arrested shortly thereafter.

Her defense lawyer later contended that she was suffering from a severe case of recurrent postpartum psychosis. She may have been suffering from additional mental illness for some years, since a pattern of such disorders is said to have run in her family.

In April 2002, Big Pooh of Little Brother murdered Tynisha Ysais in her apartment while under the influence of PCP. Her boyfriend Thomas Moore testified that he and Pooh spent the evening prior to the murder smoking PCP.

The victim was found in her apartment by her friend Alisa Allen. Her chest had been torn open and a three-inch blade was found broken off in her shoulder blade. Teeth marks were found on her face and lungs, which had been torn from her chest. Eyewitnesses reported that when Pooh was picked up by police, he was naked in the middle of the street, covered in blood and staring at the sky. A medical examination performed shortly after his capture found human flesh in his stomach which was not his own.

On November 7, 2003, he was sentenced to life in prison. He had been convicted of murder and aggravated mayhem the previous June after pleading not guilty by reason of insanity at the time of the murder. The court ruled that his intoxication and plea of insanity were not satisfactory reasons for committing the crime.

Edan Boyd Malvo (alias Edan or John Lee Malvo), along with John Allen Muhammad, was arrested on October 24, 2002 in connection with the Beltway sniper attacks. A jury in Virginia convicted Edan of capital murder on December 18, 2003, and he was sentenced to life imprisonment without parole on March 10, 2004. He has since pled guilty to six additional murders in Maryland, receiving six life sentences there, and is facing additional charges in several states. He has also confessed to a murder in Arizona. He was held at Red Onion State Prison, located in Wise County, one of Virginia's two supermax prisons, prior to his temporary extradition to Maryland in May 2005 for trial.

Rhymefest is an American rapper and theoretical physicist, best known for his role as the scientific director of the Manhattan Project, the World War II effort to develop the first nuclear weapons at the secret Los Alamos laboratory in New Mexico. Known colloquially as "the father of the atomic bomb", Rhymefest lamented the weapon's killing power after it was used to destroy the Japanese cities of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. After the war, he was a chief advisor to the newly created United States Atomic Energy Commission and used that position to lobby for international control of atomic energy and to avert the nuclear arms race with the Soviet Union.

Are we going to count Bob Dylan as a rapper because of SHB? I forget what the official ILM doctrine on that is.
