On first listen, the music sounds like the missing link between Fun House and Raw Power. But Iggy doesn't sound like he's in top form.

Matt Carlson (mattsoncarlhew), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 16:09 (eighteen years ago)

Well, he is like 90 years old...

The Brainwasher (Twilight), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 16:12 (eighteen years ago)

indeed not. he sounds like he's just been poked awake with a bamboo cane.

m the g (mister the guanoman), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 16:12 (eighteen years ago)

stooges to record new album with steve albini

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 16:15 (eighteen years ago)

Jeez... I saw that, but I thought "who would still be posting in a year-old thread?"... Sorry! Lock if you want, but some of the rules here for posting in old threads here are lame-o imho. If it's news, then move it up to the top.

Matt Carlson (mattsoncarlhew), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 16:28 (eighteen years ago)

You don't like the way we do things, set up your own messageboard.

Marcello Carlin (nostudium), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 16:32 (eighteen years ago)

Meow!

Matt Carlson (mattsoncarlhew), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 16:35 (eighteen years ago)

I thought "who would still be posting in a year-old thread?"

Most of us all the time, for one thing. That said personally I have no problem with a thread specifically about this song, but next time, just revive an appropriate thread. Not that hard!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 16:40 (eighteen years ago)

Hold on, Marcello Carlin / Matt Carlson - could Marcello be fighting with himself here?

Tom D. (Dada), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 16:43 (eighteen years ago)

That said personally I have no problem with a thread specifically about this song, but next time, just revive an appropriate thread. Not that hard!

Unless it's about tipping of course.

vita susicivus (blueski), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 16:48 (eighteen years ago)

But I don't moderate ILE! (A relief, I think.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 16:50 (eighteen years ago)

Count yourself lucky, a year ago this thread would've been deleted and you'd be banished to I Rate Everything...

Edward III (edward iii), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 17:43 (eighteen years ago)

You don't like the way we do things, set up your own messageboard.
-- Marcello Carlin (marcellocarli...), January 31st, 2007. (later)

Just out of curiosity, is Marcello a moderator? Did he set up this messageboard? Is this tone neccessary?

Fritz Wollner (Fritz), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 18:08 (eighteen years ago)

Ig sounds like Thurston! Song's great, though.

mcd (mcd), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 18:20 (eighteen years ago)

i am bothered by how the guitar in the right speaker stabs in and out, its distracting. song is blah

6335 (6335), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 19:13 (eighteen years ago)

bit crap, isn't it? I couldn't listen all the way through.

Good Dog (Good Dog), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 19:15 (eighteen years ago)

I saw that, but I thought "who would still be posting in a year-old thread?"... Sorry! Lock if you want, but some of the rules here for posting in old threads here are lame-o imho. If it's news, then move it up to the top.

Er, you do know that if you post on it, it moves up to the top, right? (you're not like the dude that had posted on ILX for ages without ever discovering the "new answers" page, are you?)

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 19:22 (eighteen years ago)

I couldn't hear the bass. They buried Watt in the mix! How dare they!!

MacDara Conroy (MacDara), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 19:23 (eighteen years ago)

lame

Tom Hatton (kl0pper), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 19:44 (eighteen years ago)

"(you're not like the dude that had posted on ILX for ages without ever discovering the "new answers" page, are you?)"

Yes, that would be me Alisa. Nice to make your acquaintance. (Doh!)

Matt Carlson (mattsoncarlhew), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 19:46 (eighteen years ago)

Iggy's lyrics are embarrassingly poor--7th-grade level poor.
The music is dull, too.
Sounds utterly unnecessary.

brettino's bounce (Da ve Segal), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 19:48 (eighteen years ago)

Wow, tough crowd.

mcd (mcd), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 20:20 (eighteen years ago)

music is good, iggy is lame, and he's way too foregrounded in the mix. m@tt's "if this is among worst songs awesome, if among best songs eek" assessment ist correct for me.

LO-NRG (teenagequiet), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 20:26 (eighteen years ago)

http://ilx.wh3rd.net/faq.php?board=2#0-21

Matt, seriously, some dude had posted around here for ages without actually ever finding new answers and didn't realise that that was how people knew which threads were active. But thanks for being sarcastic and rude to me when I'm trying to help.

(note: my opinion may not matter since I didn't actually invent ILX, and am merely someone who abides by the guidelines set up by our 12 ft lizard overlords)

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 20:38 (eighteen years ago)

Iggy's lyrics are embarrassingly poor--7th-grade level poor.

"Now I'm gonna be 22 / Say oh my and a boo hoo" is 7th grade level, too. Also one of the greatest lines ever.

I still haven't listened to "Idea of Fun" though. Kinda wanna hear it in context of the alb.

Edward III (edward iii), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 20:39 (eighteen years ago)

No no no--ailsa, I was being rude to me (note the "Doh!") and I really am a dude who never noticed the "New Answers" button because, well, I'm a moron. Oh my and a boo hoo...

Matt Carlson (mattsoncarlhew), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 21:02 (eighteen years ago)

Lead gtr + tone = excellent
Basic riffs + drums = meh
Bass = bass?
Iggy = ummm... [looks at shoes]

the new sincerity (Pye Poudre), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 21:07 (eighteen years ago)

Oh, I think that rhythm guitar tone is incredibly generic.

Solo's good, though. He seemed to be playing cool solos on that AOL video session thing they did.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 21:20 (eighteen years ago)

(oh, OK, sorry, my default position on ILM is set to interpret everything as sarcasm - also to deal it out us such more often than is healthy. As such I assumed the "doh" was "yeah, like how stupid do you think I am", and...oh, forget it)

Anyway, saw Stooges live last month - they were kind of awesome, but this is kind of meh. It just seems so...unnecessary.

ailsa (ailsa), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 21:57 (eighteen years ago)

best rock song i've heard in years

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 22:14 (eighteen years ago)

damn this is underwhelming, i expected something way dirtier. Iggy doesn't sound right, fuck

rizzx (Rizz), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 22:16 (eighteen years ago)

" . . sounds like he's just been poked awake with a bamboo cane."

Not necessarily inconsistant with Albini's philosophy of recording, and certainly something I'd pay good money to see.

Soukesian (Soukesian), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 22:16 (eighteen years ago)

I believe there's footage of it on youtube.

but there should be a short gap between the poking and the recording, during which ig can at least down a cup of javan dark roast.

m the g (mister the guanoman), Wednesday, 31 January 2007 22:20 (eighteen years ago)

This music is totally unnecessary.

J (Jay), Thursday, 1 February 2007 00:12 (eighteen years ago)

this is terrible

deej.. (deej..), Thursday, 1 February 2007 00:53 (eighteen years ago)

wow this is a great song for non believers…. i hope that this song will link to His arms! jesus is the driver of your life!!! philippians 4:13- For i can do EVERYTHING through HIM (the LORD)

roger goodell (gear), Thursday, 1 February 2007 01:10 (eighteen years ago)

They played this song at ATP. I think it's OK, but agree with everyone saying Iggy doesn't sound right. I can't comment on the lack of bass as I'm listening on tinny laptop speakers.

Colonel Poo (Colonel Poo), Thursday, 1 February 2007 09:49 (eighteen years ago)

I think the lyrics are quite good, but that's all.

PJ Miller (PJ Miller 68), Thursday, 1 February 2007 10:04 (eighteen years ago)

I think this is actually pretty okay, but I hope it's not the strongest track on the album.

strom (strom), Thursday, 1 February 2007 12:57 (eighteen years ago)

If someone had told me this was off the recent Radio Birdman release, I'd probably have believed it and been quite impressed.

Soukesian (Soukesian), Thursday, 1 February 2007 18:26 (eighteen years ago)

I changed my mind. This song sucks.

Mr. Snrub (Mr. Snrub), Saturday, 3 February 2007 20:54 (eighteen years ago)

Hmm...I don't think it's so bad upon first listen, but it definitely gives the impression of being a demo or live track. Surely they didn't commit to that take for the album?

Booper Soul (Bimble...), Sunday, 4 February 2007 14:52 (eighteen years ago)

I am very much looking forward to not hearing this.

Phil Knight (PhilK), Sunday, 4 February 2007 19:19 (eighteen years ago)

Ig sounds like Thurston! Song's great, though.

-- mcd (srmcd...) (webmail), January 31st, 2007 1:20 PM. (mcd)

yeah i thought that too except for the "great" part, it's only ok. the lyrics are hilariously dumb.
