the peni.

your null fame (yournullfame), Wednesday, 18 September 2002 05:35 (twenty-three years ago)

ive always wanted to get a few things straight.. was Peni really 15 when they recorded Farce and Death Church?

chaki (chaki), Wednesday, 18 September 2002 06:59 (twenty-three years ago)

also, are the lyrics to that FOPI song really "i wanna marry a tube disaster"? if so, that's a great line so they win.

Original: Peni
Influential: FOPI

Stewart Osborne (Stewart Osborne), Friday, 4 April 2003 11:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Both were generic but Peni

SplendidMullet (iamamonkey), Friday, 4 April 2003 14:50 (twenty-two years ago)

"The Fucking Cunts Treat Us Like Pricks".

It must be years since I first saw that title listed somewhere and it has remained my all-time favourite title of any art form of any description. For that, FOPI rool. And I've never heard it or owt else by them.

darren (darren), Friday, 4 April 2003 18:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Rudimentary Peni has been a band that I have wanted to check out for a long time. Where would would you recommend to start?

earlnash, Friday, 4 April 2003 22:40 (twenty-two years ago)

DEATH CHURCH!!!!!

chaki (chaki), Friday, 4 April 2003 22:40 (twenty-two years ago)

earlnash, check out "EPs of RP" - collected EPs, some of their best and most easily accessible stuff. "death church" is also very good, just don't start with any of their late-period albums...

michelle, Sunday, 29 June 2003 22:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Flux is much more musically creative and enjoyable, lets say to be played at a kickback, w/ fellow punks over some screwdrivers and good conversation. Nick's lyrics however knock the shit outta Flux's and Peni's music would be fun as hell to slam to (oh, if only). It really comes down to if you prefer poetic morbidity and 30 second harcore, or political commentary set to neato catchy Crass like stuff. Last month I would've devoutly claimed that Peni was better, but right now I think it's Flux. -Fin

Kevin Rhea, Friday, 1 August 2003 05:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Flux owns Rudi anyday, for one Flux was real, the drummer of Rudi ate meat, which is bullshit. So in closing, Flux owns.

Wow, I never knew that music was a competition! Im surprised that people are mumbling over the creativity of two of the most amazing bands we've seen. Just enjoy the music, not everything has to be a competition in this crazy rat race world.

RadioSchizo, Wednesday, 28 April 2004 23:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, plus its too hard to choose. They were both so fucking great.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 29 April 2004 00:02 (twenty-one years ago)

An easier one might be Poison Girls -vs- Icons of Filth

Cuz IOF would win easily.

Or Citizen Fish -vs- Schwarzenegger!

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 29 April 2004 00:04 (twenty-one years ago)

Or Conflict -vs- Discharge That one is a toughie.

It might be a tie.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 29 April 2004 00:05 (twenty-one years ago)

For me it might be:

Crass
Flux
Subhumans
Rudimentari Peni
Discharge
Conflict

But that's just today. If I slept on it my answer might be different.

scott seward (scott seward), Thursday, 29 April 2004 00:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Peni have a new EP coming out in June or July, I think (also they win)

rudimentary peni and flux are very good bands. so it's hard to put one up against the other but sinse i listen more and having rudimentary peni as my fav band i guess i'd choose them. i doubt they were 15 when they wrote those songs.

karie jenk (77 rudiments to reject), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 00:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Never cared for either, really. But I hate Rudimentary Peni.

Alex in NYC (vassifer), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 01:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know enough of either to have a preference but I'm very pleased that A) someone asked this question and that B) it actually drew righteous googlers!!

Sonny A. (Keiko), Wednesday, 26 May 2004 01:11 (twenty-one years ago)

one year passes...
Can we talk about how good the recent Rudi Peni "Underclass" and "Archaic" EP's are? Short, ultra-heavy, memorable songs. And not one mention on this thread about "Cacophony", their best by far... a very unique album of Lovecraft-drenched horror-punk goodies.

IF ANY SPARK OF LIFE BE YET REMAINING, DOWN, DOWN TO HELL, AND SAY I SENT THEE THITHER!!!

Never liked early Flux. I like 'Fucking Cunts' but my copy was the One Little Indian reissue without the lyrics - kinda pointless. Still wish I hadn't sold it.

What I like almost as much as the Peni is the post-FOPI album by Flux called "Uncarved Block". Very different, Adrian Sherwood and On-U Sound people participate and the music also has a lot more melody and color.

i heard rudimentary peni for the first time this weekend. it fucked me up! the album "cacophony" woah nellie what a crazy record....

i had no idea shit like that was going on in the UK then, it totes gets written out of history....crazy talk.

M@tt He1ges0n, Monday, 31 March 2008 18:21 (seventeen years ago)

seriously like i had no idea hardcore continued on in the UK....you never heard about it, esp. this which is beyond twisted art/metal/hardcore/strangeness....it would seem to fit in better with what was happening in the US, late SST and touch & go and shit...but i thought everyone just stopped at a certain point in the UK...

M@tt He1ges0n, Monday, 31 March 2008 18:23 (seventeen years ago)

yeah seriously! it's very overlooked.

latebloomer, Monday, 31 March 2008 18:37 (seventeen years ago)

"Flux of Pink Indians" is such a great name!

roxymuzak, Monday, 31 March 2008 18:37 (seventeen years ago)

latebloomer, Monday, 31 March 2008 18:42 (seventeen years ago)

good stuff. grindcore wouldn't have existed without this kind of music.

latebloomer, Monday, 31 March 2008 18:44 (seventeen years ago)

it's true!

J0hn D., Monday, 31 March 2008 18:56 (seventeen years ago)

Cacophony is teh bestest, but I see I said that here already. There is so much detail in that album.

DJ Mencap, Monday, 31 March 2008 22:56 (seventeen years ago)

hasn't that been true of most of the second incarnation RP releases?

i need to get EPs of RP on cd. goddamn, they were so good.

awesome

Überschadenfreude (sleeve), Saturday, 20 February 2021 16:03 (five years ago)

Sealed records is a side-label of La Vida Es Un Mus, this is really good news because Paco the guy who runs that label is a total lifer and this isn't a reissue for money he really loves this stuff

CP Radio Gorgeous (Colonel Poo), Saturday, 20 February 2021 16:19 (five years ago)

Excellent news! Southern records reissues seemed a bit dubious quality-wise.

jvc, Saturday, 20 February 2021 16:21 (five years ago)

Southern were a pretty shitty label for a lot of reasons towards the end.

I wonder if this means the Alternative LP on Corpus Christi might end up getting reissued at some point, Sealed have already put out a reissue of the Omega Tribe LP. I know Overground records were planning to reissue Alternative but Southern wanted too much money to license it.

CP Radio Gorgeous (Colonel Poo), Saturday, 20 February 2021 16:27 (five years ago)

love all those pics of the OG Ampex tapes in that Insta

It would be super cool if they reissued the first 2 EPs in original 7" packaging

Überschadenfreude (sleeve), Saturday, 20 February 2021 16:29 (five years ago)

awesome news! I'm hoping they reissue Archaic 10", I missed that one.

braised cod, Saturday, 20 February 2021 19:44 (five years ago)

So is this yet another mastering to compare?

Robert Adam Gilmour, Saturday, 20 February 2021 20:13 (five years ago)

yes but I have a lot more faith in this one tbh

Überschadenfreude (sleeve), Saturday, 20 February 2021 20:17 (five years ago)

Rudimentary Peni has a new album 'Great War' out today (and on streaming services)! Quick listen tells me it's a bit more varied than the last few releases and the singer uses his voice a lot more. Apparently this was recorded several years ago but shelved until now.

braised cod, Friday, 23 April 2021 09:59 (four years ago)

wait WHAT

P-Zunit (Neanderthal), Friday, 23 April 2021 13:42 (four years ago)

curmudgeon, Friday, 23 April 2021 14:07 (four years ago)

The rule with RP is: if it's an EP it'll be decent hardcore, if it's an LP it'll be earthshattering brilliance

imago, Friday, 23 April 2021 14:07 (four years ago)

xp that is correct, a Cacophony shirt, he also wears Youth Of Today and Neubauten shirts, total hipster bait and a pretty good movie

CP Radio Gorgeous (Colonel Poo), Saturday, 24 April 2021 01:45 (four years ago)

"Gaspar? No way." (sleeve), Saturday, 24 April 2021 02:34 (four years ago)

"Crimson Sun" fucking rules

Filibuster Poindexter (Neanderthal), Saturday, 24 April 2021 14:22 (four years ago)

the guitar sound is so great in this

braised cod, Saturday, 24 April 2021 14:38 (four years ago)

i REALLY would love to buy all the posters they are selling because they are soooooooo friggin' cool but if i did they would just end up in a closet. if i were rich i would have them framed and put them all over my house.
