Are there records which are spoiled if you know 'what happens' (lyrically or musically or whatever) before you hear them? What are they?

(CAUTION SPOILERS!)

For instance that tape-chewing bit on Tortoise's "Djed" which was the only thing I liked about the record and did surprise me first time, in a good way.

there are some bonus tracks which play on the fact that they come on 15 minutes after you thought the album had ended. However I can't think of any off the top of my head.

The Stone Roses second coming and some copies of Nevermind. Problem with those is they only really work when you are sitting around too stoned to get up when the album ends otherwise you either take the CD out or notice its still playing and so fast forward to the (usually useless) extra track.

I didn't know about the tape edit on Djed and it made me jump first time.

I've had an Orbital gig ruined by someone nearby saying loudly before the encore "They encore with the Dr Who music this tour". Thanks, that’s one surprise ruined.

Say, what an excellent question!

All I can say is when the opposite happens - when I hear a record without any advance buzz, like "it's their neo-electro statement" - it can really highten my enjoyment. Unless the record's no good.

Hahaha sorry Cirtis, in mitigation I was on holiday when that got posted.

It is a good question though!
