'MySpace' The Top US Search Term in 2006 Among All Websites

Las Vegas and Hawaii Top Searched Destinations

NEW YORK, NY - January 24, 2007 - Today, Hitwise, the world's leading online competitive intelligence service, announced the top search terms for 2006.

These search terms reported on represent a non-aggregated look at the most popular US queries that send traffic to specific websites across all major search engines. The tables below are based on a 52 week average of industry search terms for 2006 from the following Hitwise categories: All US Categories overall, Entertainment - Movies, Sports, Entertainment - Television, Travel and Lifestyle-Fashion.

"Search term data is the closest proxy for what is on the minds of Internet user's, and is a great measure of brand equity," said Bill Tancer, general manager of global research at Hitwise. "For example MySpace saw tremendous growth in traffic in 2006 which is a reflection of the increased brand equity for MySpace. MySpace related search terms accounted for half of the top 10 search terms to all sites in 2006."
