I broke down and ordered a year's worth of hats today:

these are Lids Franchise/Hall of Famer Franchise caps, the only good baseball caps I've ever seen. Light cotton, low-profile and semi-fitted

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 21:40 (twenty years ago)

Where are the cool baseball shirts? The t-shirts they sell at the Ballpark are fugly (and the money goes to Tom Hicks, so no deal), but it seems that's universal.

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 21:43 (twenty years ago)

i like the franchise caps that are actually the old school designs. wool is a little much for my eyetalian dome.

moonlight graham makes some good cotton caps, too.

jonathan quayle higgins (j.q. higgins), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 22:39 (twenty years ago)

I just picked this up, size 7 1/2, for my first adopted team ever:

This one was very tempting, maybe later this year, depending on how fair the weather is:

if any thread gets felicity out of hiding, this is the one. or will she yet again post by bnw proxy?

Jams Murphy (ystrickler), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 23:03 (twenty years ago)

I can't decide on my token Midwestern allegiance, should I go with Chief Wahoo or the Twins (in the old-school logo)?

I forgot about Moonlight Graham. They've got some great (hilariously overpriced and sized-too-small) shirts too.

milozauckerman (miloaukerman), Tuesday, 15 February 2005 23:13 (twenty years ago)

Are there any new Unis this year besides the Nationals?

Did Doug Glanville ever have his way with the Philly Maroon?

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 00:08 (twenty years ago)

I'm waiting for the Paul Lukas column.

jaymc (jaymc), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 07:45 (twenty years ago)

mattbot, what is that black one with the red cat?

hstencil (hstencil), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 09:33 (twenty years ago)

The cat hat belongs to the 1901-02 Tigers.

The Cubs got rid of the names on the backs of their home jerseys (but not the away ones) for 2005.

mattbot (mattbot), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 13:23 (twenty years ago)

i LIKE that old tigres cap. i wish twins would "franchise" some of the old senators ball caps (like, maybe...walter johnson era or ted williams?).

jonathan quayle higgins (j.q. higgins), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 14:25 (twenty years ago)

ha! she was very fond of the korean cartoon thread and her favorite part of the superbowl was the pre-game golf tournament with the hunky John Smoltz. She is definitely lurking on ilbb, and has already requested our first 10 fantasy picks be all pitchers...

bnw (bnw), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 15:32 (twenty years ago)

Are any of these what you're looking for j. q.?

mattbot (mattbot), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 17:22 (twenty years ago)

FWIW: The thread where by magical incantation we summon the poster Felicity (and other Cubs stuff)

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 16 February 2005 19:01 (twenty years ago)

oh, senor bott...i check for updates all the time. i'm looking for the cotton twins/franchise version.

but given the current occupant of 1600 penn have quite a philosphical/sartorial dilemma on my hands.

my hair is at such a volume that a baseball cap will no longer contain it. 8 months since last haircut. much hair. much unsightliness. no wonder i'm single again.

This article is a good idea but Moneypenny picks a TERRIBLE model for the Yankees uni! (I approve wholeheartedly of the Cubs model).

The Yankees hom euni is way overrated anyway. The home Dodgers uni is better than either the Red Sox away or the Yankees home.

i miss the old blue road unis the cards/expos/phillies/others had.

okay, not really.

mookieproof (mookieproof), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 02:44 (twenty years ago)

Felicity, are you sure that your examples of fashion do's and don't's's's have nothing to do with who's wearing the uniform?

Lee (Leee), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 02:55 (twenty years ago)

Ha ha, blue as an away color seems very 1970s. It's as if jeans were still a novelty and people were really excited about the idea that every color goes with blue, as in a customized blue ringer t-shirt from the make-it-yourself t-shirt store at the mall. Those 1970s blue uniforms look like their parents made them put on blue jeans to go out and play or to go on a long road trip so they can save their nice home whites for when they have company over to entertain. They also looked nice and comfy with all the snaps and elastic ribbing.

Leee: Absolutely not! The uniforms are completely different, just look at them. One has the top button unbuttoned.
Either that or maybe they were just shaded so people watching at home on black and white TVs could tell which team was the away team without using such a dark color it might blend into the field.

I like the way Moneypenny writes about the Detroit away uniforms in the article. He sounds like Ally.

I would love one of these. Perhaps with the number of the Great Kirk Gibson?

Just kidding! You look great.

I imagine the most popular Q will be "What's with the Colorado vests?"

Dr Morbius (Dr Morbius), Tuesday, 10 May 2005 12:08 (twenty years ago)

these jerseys are L'ASS:

http://www.mlb.com/images/2005/05/01/5KA94ga5.jpg

even worse than the rockies vests, i think. plus they look like crap on 99% of tvs.

maura (maura), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 03:13 (twenty years ago)

I like more of the "worst" uniforms than the "best"! Almost.
Cubs' blue and red is bleh. don't understand the love.

i recently got me an "Big Papi Has a Posse" t-shirts.

Chris 'The Nuts' V (Chris V), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 12:00 (twenty years ago)

Oops, your last post indicts you as the president of the Taste-Blind Club of Cross-Eyed Buffoonery! Hating the Cubs unis = hating sunshine and organizations scalping their own tickets! Blaspheme!

David R. (popshots75`), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 12:14 (twenty years ago)

in my defense, i've lived in the chicago area all my life, and have been subjected to those cubs' blue satiny jackets far too much. The actual uniforms aren't as bad as most of the fan attire, but those shades of blue and red are straight from Bozo's suit.

()ops (()()ps), Wednesday, 11 May 2005 18:15 (twenty years ago)

There's just something unnatural about that shade of blue. It's about as natural as Bozo's hair - you're right.

Also, satin really looks like shit after a few wearings, if it didn't already.

the unis the padres are wearing tonight vs Our Nationals are just awful. top to bottom puke mustard. woody williams looks like a turd with a moustache. are these their standard road unis or just the 95°F third uniform alternative?

stenc: did you see the mr. met on the mg website? pretty sharp, methinks.

jonathan quayle higgins (j.q. higgins), Friday, 20 October 2006 14:49 (nineteen years ago)

the hat? yeah it looks nice. they didn't have any at the store tho.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 20 October 2006 14:52 (nineteen years ago)

i see. they all look pretty sharp.

that antiquated script cards hat is pretty noice. if i recall correctly, the mg hats are a little more substantial than the twins brand franchise cooperstown caps.
