Bullies can be stopped

So what can you do if someone tries to bully you? Here are a few ideas:

Pray for the bully - Really! Prayer is one of the most powerful weapons you have in the bully battle. Pray that God will change the bully's heart--and his behavior.

Speak out - Don't let the bully think it's OK to pick on you. Say how you feel. Bullies are "trespassers" who need to be moved back into their own territory. Sometimes telling them, "Stop it. I don't like to be treated this way," can be enough to do that.

Ask for help - Tell a caring adult if someone repeatedly calls you names, hits or attacks you, takes away your things or stops you from using school facilities (bathrooms, lunch room, drinking fountain). It's not tattling to tell an adult when things get out of hand.

Avoid trouble - Don't join gangs, wear their colors or use their symbols or hand signs. And don't act like you or your friends are better than everyone else.

Be street smart - Never walk alone or hang out in hidden areas. Be careful not to get too far away from adult supervision.

Be friendly - Join after-school activities and get to know other kids who have the same interests you do. Invite them over to your house so you can get to know them outside of school. Have a group of friends. There is safety in numbers.

Don't be a mirror - Don't fight bullies by copying their actions and attitudes. The Bible says, "A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs up anger" (Proverbs 15:1).

When all else fails, Jonathan suggests another tactic to use with bullies, one that seemed to work pretty well with the one who was teasing him about being short. "Just ignore them and walk away." he says. It's not always possible, but it is often the best choice.

There's a good chance I'll be gone on May 19th. Mark Shumaker (leader of APC who got busted in 2001, I never met him, was long before I was a part of the group) had probation that included not being allowed to use a computer except for school work. so, it seems logical I may get something similar.

Oh ok, I was wondering what the phiber optik treatment was! Never heard of that before. If I am banned from the internet (Marissa Marchant had no idea how right she was) then I'll probably leave my cell phone number so people can call to chat if they want. you won't get time, you obviously are playing ball with them. i'm thinking $25,000 fine and maybe 3 years parole. maybe a cosmetic "ban" from the internet for the duration of the parole, but that's impossible to enforce in the age of wi-fi.

A fine doesn't seem very likely. The probation officer handling my files told the judge I couldn't afford a fine and suggested community service instead.

And yeah, if I was "banned" from the internet it would obviously be easy to get back on. There's no way I'd risk it though. Risk prison time for ILX, last.fm, Facebook, and 15 second porn clips?

Andrew, maybe my tone isn't conveyed so well through text, but I'm getting a kick ot of this more than it is bothering me. If I post anything on ILM, no matter how innocent it may be, it gets a response like this. This thread was JW's response to me asking for help finding an import I wanted. So, basically my choices are to either deal with it or just entirely leave ILM. I'd rather just deal it with. If I do get banned, that's fine too though. Who knows, like I said above, I may not be on ILM again after May 19th, so I might as well make an ass out of myself here while I still have a chance.

yes, i'm sure that's true and some of those people got banned for it as well but in general most people who haven't been banned despite saying one-offs that were worse didn't, like, consistently say awful things to people and go out of their way to harass people and basically make a nuisance of themself.
