Unauthorized use of graphic

I just wanted you to be aware that someone has posted a graphic at your site that is copyright protected and they did not receive written permission to use the graphic. The graphic in question is the kitten standing up with its paws in the air. It is dispalyed at ilx.p3r.net/thread.php?msgid=6097085 (message # 6097493). I'm the creator and owner of this graphic. I know it is my graphic as can be proven by my visitor log at my server. I've copied the code from your page and now have it saved in my records, as will be a copy of this notice. I'm requesting three things:
1) If you choose to leave the graphic in place, you must place a notice under the graphic stating that it is copyrighted by Sheila Rae Myers;
2) If you choose to leave the graphic in place, it must be downloaded to your server and not directly linked to my site - this is bandwidth stealing; and
3) If you choose to the leave the graphic in place and do not honor requests 1 and 2, I will forward a copy of this letter, your source code, and my visitor log to your server and request that the appropriate actions be taken.
Please e-mail your decisions as to what actions you will take to insure that my copyright is being honored.

Hi there! I'm sure one of the actual moderators will be along in a minute to reply to your request. In the mean time, perhaps you should consider retooling it a bit. It seems carefully (and well!) crafted to build up to the latter half of your point 3, which would be a good idea if this were, say, a terrifying threat instead of an empty one. We know the person who owns and and hosts our server. He's a friendly Australian gent who posts fairly regularly, rather than a 10-foot ogre breathing fire. Armed with this knowledge, I'd hope that you would
1) get some better beats
2) get some better rhymes

Kisses,
Andrew

PS: you know that image comes up in the first page of searches for 'happy cat' on Google Images? If you're looking for the dineros, I hear they're L.O.A.D.E.D.

I've posted a cropped version of this photo too, I demand to be harrassed in an unconvincing fashion.

1) Do you have any proof that you are the copyright holder?

2) There is no such thing as "bandwidth theft". YOUR server is the one returning the image in response to client requests. You are able to block this behavior.

3) Eat my asshole.

I wasn't aware cropping someone else's photo gave you copyright to it. PHOTOSHOP LAWYERING

Sheila, simply make a contribution to my re-election campaign and I promise to draft an amendment to my Extreme Patriot: This Time We're Serious Act that will define bandwidth theft as a form of flag desecration.

Hi Sheila, I'm a mod and I deleted the photo. I would highly recommend you learn about your .htaccess file, though, if you want to prevent this sort of thing from happening in the future--anyone who considers themselves a web designer should know this stuff anyway.

Out of curiosity, what is the legal precedent for this?

Erm, was this actually the ubiquitous "kitten with hands in air" pic? Cos thats all over the net like a rash and has been for at least 5 years, this has got to be some kind of troll.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 02:51 (twenty years ago)

Well, good, it looks like empty threats.

Lady, you need a lesson in copyright law. And a kick in the ass.

pullapartgirl (pullapartgirl), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 14:45 (twenty years ago)

now why would you want to turn a nice metaphor into a simile like that?

Sterling Clover (s_clover), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 15:49 (twenty years ago)

The best part is that she is the one violating copyright here.

I'm Hi, Jared Fogle (ex machina), Wednesday, 17 August 2005 17:18 (twenty years ago)

I'm about to sue every one of these thieves. I was masturbating long before this picture was created.
