FABLES #46 (MR) $2.75
WINNIE THE POOH HUGS COME IN ALL SHAPES BANK $37.50

j blount (papa la bas), Monday, 6 February 2006 17:25 (nineteen years ago)

Oh man, definitely Fables. This is the "wooden soldiers in love" story, isn't it?

Neverwhere, Ghost Rider, Marvel Zombies, Young Avengers, Ultimate Extinction.

Friends' copies of JLA (I guess?), Supergirl, Titans, Hulk.

MARVEL LEGACY THE 1960S HANDBOOK?

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 6 February 2006 17:34 (nineteen years ago)

a hug bank?

s1ocki (slutsky), Monday, 6 February 2006 17:35 (nineteen years ago)

GREEN ARROW #59 - NO BLACK LIGHTNING, NO CREDIBILITY
JLA #125 - Green (with Envy) Arrow kills Batman!
JSA #82 - OH, I'm going to regret buying a comic that I dropped, but Paul Levitz & George Perez on Gentleman Ghost vs. Old Man Superman!!!
SHOWCASE PRESENTS HOUSE OF MYSTERY VOL 1 TP - Okay, let's do it!
SUPERGIRL #4 - I'm not really buying this (yes I am).
TEEN TITANS #32 - O, Superboy!
MARVEL ZOMBIES #3 (OF 5) - Kill, eat, brains!

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 6 February 2006 17:36 (nineteen years ago)

Tell me how this House of Mystery Showcase is, I've loved the ones I've bought but unequally (Superman, Metamorpho, Hex, GL, in that order). (Green Arrow and JLA are out too, right? I haven't had a chance to look at them yet, but they seem inevitable purchases.)

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 6 February 2006 17:38 (nineteen years ago)

OMG DOES GREEN ARROW REALLY KILL BATMAN THIS WEEK???

i'm definitely getting that showcase, how long til haunted tank?

j blount (papa la bas), Monday, 6 February 2006 17:39 (nineteen years ago)

I'd love a SHOWCASE PRESENTS BEFORE THEY WERE VERTIGO with Kirby Sandman, Ditko Shade, Earth-S Kid Eternity, Brother Power, various Phantom Stranger appearances to fill the slate.

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 6 February 2006 17:41 (nineteen years ago)

My friend has a boatload of old Phantom Strangers. Like a whole canoe full. (and Ditko Shade would be awesome!!!)

The last page of JLA #124 had Green Arrow (possessed by the Seven Deadly Sins' Envy) milliseconds from making stabbing on Batman. Black Canary is poised to save the day, but I think that a good KILL OFF of Batman (at least within JLA continuity) is in order.

I don't know the difference between House of Secrets and House of Mystery, but I think they're both just horror stories narrated by Abel and Cain.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 6 February 2006 17:47 (nineteen years ago)

Wow, what a slow week. Just Milligan X-Men for me.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Monday, 6 February 2006 17:50 (nineteen years ago)

and yeah this fables starts the wooden soldiers love story

j blount (papa la bas), Monday, 6 February 2006 17:52 (nineteen years ago)

I read a lot of the 80s House of Mystery -- hosted by Elvira!! -- but those horror anthologies tend not to make for good collections. It makes it too plain how repetitive some of the stories are, etc. Then again, that didn't harm the Superman collection any.

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 6 February 2006 17:54 (nineteen years ago)

Also, the ESSENTIAL PETER PARKER makes me realize that ESSENTIAL WEB OF SPIDER-MAN is not far off, which means next year we'll probably see Todd McFuckingFarlane in the black and white pages of the Essential collections.

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 6 February 2006 17:57 (nineteen years ago)

Is anything cool going on with Batman LotDK #200?

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 6 February 2006 17:59 (nineteen years ago)

It makes it too plain how repetitive some of the stories are, etc.
Didn't harm Jonah Hex (much) either.

xpost

BART SEARS (and Eddie "From Hell" Cambell)

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 6 February 2006 18:09 (nineteen years ago)

JUN050056 WETA NARNIA GIRLS ON ASLAN STATUE $300.00

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 6 February 2006 18:09 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, I didn't notice Ultimate X-Men in there. I'm getting that too.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Monday, 6 February 2006 18:10 (nineteen years ago)

haha draculina did catch my eye i must admit

j blount (papa la bas), Monday, 6 February 2006 18:10 (nineteen years ago)

The Mile High Comics preview of LOTDK #200 suggests that A) the efforts of Eddie Campbell (& his co-writer) on this book are Ranngarian at best, and B) Bart Sears has gone from spectacular suck to run-of-the-mill suck.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 6 February 2006 18:10 (nineteen years ago)

I read that as WET NARNIA GIRLS and assumed it was a pervy sculpture.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Monday, 6 February 2006 18:16 (nineteen years ago)

(me too)

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 6 February 2006 18:17 (nineteen years ago)

is narnia the thing where jesus turns into a dog or whatever?

j blount (papa la bas), Monday, 6 February 2006 18:19 (nineteen years ago)

ANYWAY

Ares is by Michael Avon Oeming & Travis Foreman. The first issue featured Ares (the mohakwed guy from Avengers tales past) living incognito in suburbia w/ his kid, acting all Ares-esque & macho until his kid gets kidnapped and then he makes w/ the razor and hidden weapon closet and IT'S LOCK & LOAD TIME! Looks to be as enjoyable as Thor: Blood Oath.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 6 February 2006 18:22 (nineteen years ago)

You're thinking of the Shaggy Filius Dei.

xpost -- Oeming! Okay, I'll pick that up. Oeming has serious currency with me right now.

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 6 February 2006 18:23 (nineteen years ago)

JUST jonah hex for me??? really? tell me, what should i get this week?

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Monday, 6 February 2006 18:31 (nineteen years ago)

Dude, Marvel Zombies. Maybe Fables, but definitely Marvel Zombies.

And oh yeah, Hex for me too.

Tep (ktepi), Monday, 6 February 2006 18:33 (nineteen years ago)

FABLES #46 (MR)
JLA #125 - add this to my collection of last Justice League issues
JSA #82
NEVERWHERE #6 (OF 9) - where my Carey appreciation goes to die
SUPERGIRL #4

ARES #2 (OF 5) - Ares kicks ass! (?)
BLACK WIDOW 2 #5 (OF 6) - yawn
GHOST RIDER #6 (OF 6)
I HEART MARVEL WEB OF ROMANCE - perhaps
MARVEL ZOMBIES #3 (OF 5) - and maybe my backordered issue 2...?
ULTIMATE EXTINCTION #2 (OF 5) - boy, it'll be a treat if these come out regularly
ULTIMATE X-MEN #67 - I'm excited about this, Ares, Zombies and Fables

Oblivious Lad. (Oblivious Lad), Monday, 6 February 2006 18:33 (nineteen years ago)

NOV053432 GREAT LIES TO TELL SMALL KIDS TP (MR) $11.00

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 6 February 2006 18:33 (nineteen years ago)

Almost every ILC thread could qualify for that TP.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 6 February 2006 18:45 (nineteen years ago)

It's actually a very small hardbound book, from the people who brought you The Big Book of Bunny Suicides. It's also great.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 6 February 2006 19:52 (nineteen years ago)

For me, Legends of the Dark Knight plus Batman & the Monster Men and Hellboy from last week.

For both Maddie and me, Fables and Marvel Zombies.

For her:

DMZ #4
BOMB QUEEN #1
SON OF M #3
ULTIMATE X-MEN #67
X-MEN #182
X-MEN UNLIMITED #13 (if it looks good)

Jordan (Jordan), Monday, 6 February 2006 20:02 (nineteen years ago)

B-b-but where's SEVEN SOLDIERS: FRANKENSTEIN?!

For me:

JSA #82--hot George Perez action!
SHOWCASE PRESENTS HOUSE OF MYSTERY VOL 1 TP--just the thing for a long airplane trip
ARES #2 (OF 5)--read the first one on Paul O'Brien's recommendation, and really enjoyed it
ED THE HAPPY CLOWN #5 (OF 9)--hot Reagan-wang action!

Douglas (Douglas), Monday, 6 February 2006 20:03 (nineteen years ago)

It's REAGAN WANG? I was gonna read #4 before I went to sleep, but I thought it'd be better that the last thing I read before zzzz didn't involved talking penises.

Idiot question - Marvel's shoving these cute, endearing Franklin Richards stories into select books. Why not just junk the Unlimited nonsense & publish the stories (THAT ARE WORTH A DAMN) in the books where they belong?

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 6 February 2006 20:11 (nineteen years ago)

Bulleteer was only last week, yes? And the checklist at the back says Frankenstein: Feb 15.

Andrew Farrell (afarrell), Monday, 6 February 2006 20:22 (nineteen years ago)

Just the Legends Of The Dan'n'eddie Knight for me, unless the Eddie TCJ from last month has mysteriously appeared in either the comic shop or book shop. I'd have been buying the Ed The Happy Clown reprints all along if my shop would have stocked them, and the same goes for Kupperman's Tales To Thrizzle.

kit brash (kit brash), Monday, 6 February 2006 22:43 (nineteen years ago)

FABLES #46 - THE HOTTEST PUPPET-ON-PUPPET ACTION SINCE TEAM AMERICA
GREEN ARROW #59 - GA vs MERLYN FITE! Blurb reads suspiciously like it leads straight into IYL, and waddya know...
JONAH HEX #4 - The Punisher it's OK to like.
SHOWCASE PRESENTS HOUSE OF MYSTERY VOL 1 - You are better than Showcase Presents Green Arrow AICM£5.
FRANKLIN RICHARDS SON OF A GENIUS EVERYBODY LOVES FRANKLIN - Am I the only one buying this? Calvin & H.E.R.B.I.E., in a nutshell.
GHOST RIDER #6 - lovely art (assuming the shop gets it in)
I HEART MARVEL WEB OF ROMANCE - assuming the shop gets it in (see also the TEEN ROMANCE comics from last week they're hoping to get).
INCREDIBLE HULK #92 - HULK SMASH PUNY SPACE VACUUM.
MARVEL KNIGHTS 4 #27 - One stretches, the other goes on fire.
MARVEL ZOMBIES #3 - More digestion-related humour, possibly.
PUNISHER BLOODY VALENTINE - The Punisher it isn't OK to like.
ULTIMATE EXTINCTION #2 - It probably all turns out OK in the end, but YOU NEVER KNOW.
ULTIMATE X-MEN #67 - Wolverine is bored at home and decides to have a wank. Hilarious claw-related hijinks ensue, and he spends the rest of the series waiting for his cock to grow back. (1 of 12)
X-MEN #182 - APOCALYPSE vs DAAP FITE!

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 14:01 (nineteen years ago)

ADOOPCALYPSE NOW

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 14:26 (nineteen years ago)

ED THE HAPPY CLOWN #4: Yep, it's Reagan wang. Looks more like Nixon w/ Eisenhower's hair, but what do I know? I think I'm in luv w/ the girl that gets killed. Again.

David R. (popshots75`), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 17:21 (nineteen years ago)

So seriously, I'm the only person buying Tales Designed to Thrizzle? Cause the first issue was great.

Just Ares and Tales Designed to Thrizzle for me.

The Yellow Kid, Tuesday, 7 February 2006 21:01 (nineteen years ago)

Oh, I'm buying THRIZZLE for sure. Skipped over it by accident...

Douglas (Douglas), Tuesday, 7 February 2006 21:12 (nineteen years ago)

oh, i wish i had not missed any of ed the happy.

tom west (thomp), Wednesday, 8 February 2006 02:13 (nineteen years ago)

Supergirl #4: This is the stupidest thing I've read all week. I'm not buying #5, I SWEAR. D
JSA #82: Boring Ma Hunkle spotlight issue. Not even George Perez art makes it interesting. C-
Superman #226: Old Man Superpants tells his story, Black Lois makes a cameo (fer realz). B-
Teen Titans #32: Extended remix of Infinite Crisis #4, with more hi-hat, less bass. C
Green Arrow #59: The city Green Arrow is about to become mayor of gets leveled (his fault), oh, and GA DIES (also his fault). C
JLA #125: I guess this takes place before this week's Green Arrow, since Green Arrow is still alive. No Aquaman, no credibility.
Showcase Presents the House of Mystery: Sergio Aragones! So far, after just skimming through the volume, the jokey stuff is vastly superior to the SERIOUS HORROR (the very first story is astoundingly pointless, it's like, amazingly unthrilling and unmysterious!). The Gil Kane story looks fun.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 9 February 2006 15:10 (nineteen years ago)

JLA GRADE PLEASE!

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 9 February 2006 15:16 (nineteen years ago)

No Aquaman, no credibility. D

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 9 February 2006 15:24 (nineteen years ago)

(I also bought Marvel Zombies, but it just didn't feel right to read it after all that crap.)

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 9 February 2006 15:24 (nineteen years ago)

I thought I heard JOYOUS rumors that IC was leaving Supergirl w/ JL, but I saw the cover for #7, and it credits IC on the art, and the cover shows Supergirl with these messed-up petite devil-horn-like boobs that look more like tumors than breasts.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 9 February 2006 15:30 (nineteen years ago)

I quite enjoyed this issue of Milligan X-Men! I enjoy his take on Apocalypse, where he seems less like a despotic monster and more like a bizarre sadistic artist.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Thursday, 9 February 2006 15:30 (nineteen years ago)

I believe OYL, Supergirl becomes "Queen & Bottle".

Huk-L (Huk-L), Thursday, 9 February 2006 15:36 (nineteen years ago)

dave, they're supposed to be perky!!!!

is milligan's x-men tying into what's going on in cable/deadpool and deadly genesis, matt?

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Thursday, 9 February 2006 21:40 (nineteen years ago)

Ian, they look like misproportioned yams! (Maybe I've been damaged by too much inky spherical mammary goodness to acknowledge what honest-to-goodness "real" breasts look like, tho.)

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 9 February 2006 21:44 (nineteen years ago)

(i haven't actually seen the cover in question, i'm just referring to the creepily pubescent breasts of previous supergirl issues.)

Special Agent Gene Krupa (orion), Thursday, 9 February 2006 21:46 (nineteen years ago)

IC: two letters that have so much to answer for.

David R. (popshots75`), Thursday, 9 February 2006 21:47 (nineteen years ago)

FABLES #46 - The first half of the issue is kind of dull, the second half is great; too much time spent on the FITE when it's only a Maguffin to make the lovers meet up. Some of the wooden soldier 'racism' is excellent though.
JONAH HEX #4 - Exactly what you'd expect, only let down by the Mexican guy SURVIVING BEING HUNG at the end.
GHOST RIDER #6 - The art was nice. Not sure there was any substance to it, and the OH NOES TWIST SHOCKAH has been done too many times before.
MARVEL ZOMBIES #3 - "We're still hungry." The Wolverine sequence is genius.
MARVEL ROMANCE REDUX (from last week) - patchy, some stories working better than others, and I'm not sure I won't prefer the ACTUAL ROMANCE BOOKS.
SUPERGIRL #4 - I bought this just because Huk said it was shite, and it is. Luckily Starfire turns up somewhere in the middle and HER TITTAYS RESCUE THE DAY.

In stock bad news this week, no Franklin Richard and no Showcase Presents. But back issues of all the Marvel romance books I asked for, including the originals being lampooned in Marvel Romance Redux.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Friday, 10 February 2006 11:22 (nineteen years ago)

I don't read Cable/Deadpool and I don't see a connection to Deady Genesis, so I can't really answer that question, Gene.

Matthew C Perpetua (inca), Friday, 10 February 2006 13:41 (nineteen years ago)

I demand a summer crossover event called Deady Genesis.

Ray (Ray), Friday, 10 February 2006 14:04 (nineteen years ago)

I bought this just because Huk said it was shite, and it is.

Hurm.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Friday, 10 February 2006 14:49 (nineteen years ago)

Hey, I WAS BORED IN THE COMIC SHOP.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Friday, 10 February 2006 14:56 (nineteen years ago)

GREEN ARROW #59 - SURPRISINGLY ENGAGING. And in the end OH NOES GA DIES. Did I see a OYL plug at the end? I surely did.
I HEART MARVEL WEB OF ROMANCE - Peter tries to work out what to buy MJ for valentines. NOT A ROMANCE BOOK.
I HEART MARVEL MY MUTANT HEART - Only the Doop story really works in a classic romance sense, BUT IT IS SO AWESOME THE REST DOESN'T MATTER.
INCREDIBLE HULK #92 - The first really great Hulk issue in a while. Plus Death's Head in the background of more than one panel = exciting times ahead.
MARVEL ROMANCE - Well worth investing in this trade. A pile of romance strips, often from big names like Lee and Kirby. The best is probably the Stan 'Patsy' strip, with sidebar annotations pointing out which reader suggested which costume (and they change nearly every panel). BUT IN THE END IT WAS ALL A MISUNDERSTANDING, AND NOW I'LL NEVER LOVE AGAIN. SOB.
PUNISHER BLOODY VALENTINE - Inconsequential mafia plot, but at least Frank gets a shag out of it.
ULTIMATE EXTINCTION #2 - I suspect what we have guessed in the Marvel Zombies thread will turn out to be right. The Silver Surfer is grebt in this.
ULTIMATE X-MEN #67 - Colossus explains to Nightcrawler about gay love. Honestly.
X-MEN #182 - The return of Apocalypse. Ho hum.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Monday, 13 February 2006 10:08 (nineteen years ago)

Re Green Arrow: Doesn't this all seem a little, oh, Zero Hour-y?

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 13 February 2006 14:26 (nineteen years ago)

Entirely possibly.

After I'd finished reading it, I just felt like "was that it?" Pretty much all of the last year has been leading up to... this? Bleh.

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Monday, 13 February 2006 14:46 (nineteen years ago)

I only recently read the Zero Hour Green Arrow issue. It was a dialogue-free (okay, so right away it gets the edge) story featuring divergent timelines. Green Arrow chases a mugger. In one timeline, GA trips or something and the mugger kills him dead. In the other one, he nabs the mugger. Then the timelines reconverge and GA is standing there, staring at his own corpse. Then Batman shows up and they go off to fight Parallax.

Huk-L (Huk-L), Monday, 13 February 2006 14:53 (nineteen years ago)

I can't remember who the GAs tailing off into the distance were... the current, Showcase Presents, Dark Knight Returns...

aldo_cowpat (aldo_cowpat), Monday, 13 February 2006 14:58 (nineteen years ago)

Yeah, I think there was an Island Castaway Tom Hanks Edition Green Arrow as well. I was kinda disappointed there was no Xeen Arrow.
