SPINNING OUT OF THE BLOOD-POUNDING EVENTS OF Marvel's Civil War AND REELING FROM THE UNIVERSE-BENDING EFFECTS OF (52 new answers), ARE THE BIG TWO STILL GIVING US TASTY SUPERHERO TREATS BEYOND EVENTS?

Like, I'm thinking, okay, when Infinite Crisis came out, so did New Frontier. House of M: Fantastic Four: Big In Japan. Infinite Crying Batman: Monster Men AND Year 100. Spider-Man The Other: OZDevil

As easy as it is to knockabout Queseda and Didio for the knee-jerk internet fanservice and oldboysclubbery, they do at least seem to nominally offer antidotes to the po-faced absurdity of shareduniversality.

Daredevil is pretty damn good right now. Brubaker's approach is working far better than it did on Captain America. Jeff Parker's Marvel stuff (in the Marvel Adventures line) has been pretty good fun, as has just about anything Slott.

The big two are going to remain all about the big event shock reveal everything you know is wrong unless you happen to know the last twenty years of continuity but even that is going to be wrong because it's all about being shocked and dismayed and all how the hell can they be doing this to the characters I loved for such a long time I hates them I hates them I hates them forever my precious.

In the meantime, I'll happily be buying other, more readable stuff. Seven Soldiers is a perfect antidote to the IC blahs that I been feeling.
