Should I buy Alan Moore's Supreme?

and what others? is it possible that high concept metacomics kind of defeat the fun of comics?

I would suggest Art Spiegelman's "Breakdowns", a collection of his early (1970's) underground comix work which is meant to be very good, though I haven't read it myself. You can see some scans and some lengthy descriptions here. Lots and lots of formal tricks and jokes that rely on the fact that its a comic.
