just drove 6hrs down the boring, repetitve 5 highway by myself and listened to Pharoah Overlord, Delia Gonzalez & Gavin Russom, and that new Earth. totally hypnotic-spaced-out-perfect-for-driving music.

a cd-r i put together of all the stuff i've been able to find by him so far...it's only like 20 tracks. dude's not exactly neptunes-level prolific.

skot's hit parade for the week:

racebannon - first there was the emptiness

tesla - mechanical resonance

triumph - never surrender

tim hardin - painted head

zior - zior...plus (every couple of years i put this on thinking i'll like it more, but it never happens.)

leonard cohen - live songs

eddie harris - sculpture

nick gilder - you know who you are (such a great record)

spooky tooth - you broke my heart so i busted your jaw

the lemon pipers - jungle marmalade

memphis slim - south side reunion

the undertones - positive touch

count buffalos - emergency ( 70's japanese jazzrock/soul that i knew would be pretty bad but i bought it cuz it was part of toshiba's pro-use direct cutting series distributed by audio-technica. too bad my audio-technica needle is so old. still sounds spiffy though. i am a sucker for those japanese direct to disc vinyl rekkerds.)

byzantium - byzantium (chaz jankel rural prog from 72/73. not bad.)

nilsson - aerial ballet

elizabeth - elizabeth

the sir douglas band - texas tornado

rush - rush

milton nascimento - clube da esquina 2 (i love this record! i don't think i had ever heard an entire nascimento album before. great stuff. this is a double album. it even came with two big cloud stickers that i could stick on my car if i wanted to! i also got a groovy wayne shorter album with milton on it. i've been digging that too.)

wishbone ash - pigrimage

horseflies - human fly ( i forgot all about this album! i hadn't heard it since the 80's. "neo-primitive bug music". more bluegrass bands should have tried to sound like the feelies.)

Moondog - 'The Viking of Sixth Avenue' 2lp
Jim Hall feat. Buddy Collette - 'The Unreleased Sessions' CD
Super Eagles - 'Senegambian Sensation' CD
Sun City Girls - 'Montreal Pop' lp
Lenny Tristano - 'Intuition' 4cd Proper box
V/A - 'Good For What Ails You' 2cd

Joe Jones - boot LP
Everly Brothers - 'Rock & Soul' CD
Albert Ayler - 'Live On the Riviera' CD

other stuff diggin on:

Frijid Pink - 'Defrosted' -- Tim, you win! This is really quite excellent, in fact. Waaaay better than I remembered. "Pain in My Heart" totally smokes. "I'm Movin On" is great too. Yeah they were pretty hot.
Robert Lim's Janitor From Mars WFMU 2003 giveaway CDR -- fuck, I really should have gone to that Up-TIGHT show, shouldn't I? also, who the fuck are "Mandog"?? shitty name, amazing sounds. guess I could just call Rob and ask..
Harry Shearer - "Brownie, You did a Heck of a Job"
Robbie Dupree - "Steal Away" -- sounded great in Wendy's yesterday
fucking Converge show last night
Blind Blake - 'Complete Recorded Works 1'
Davy Graham - 'Hat'

Stormy Davis (diamond), Friday, 11 November 2005 04:19 (nineteen years ago) link

hugo largo - drum / mettle
yoko ono - plastic ono band / life with the lions / A.I.U.
excepter - KA
neu! 4 (just checking to see if it's as bad as I remembered)
marshall mcluhan interviewed by dick cavett - wow - at one point he begins talking about 'motorcycle cops' and after the third mention of 'motorcycle cops' you can hear him pause, and begin using the term 'cyclops' instead to mean the same thing -- I really want to think this was an improv

swans. lots and lots of swans.

also, illegal nurse with wound mp3 "compilation". many out of print albums for $15.00 infinitely better than paying some douchbag collector $40.00 for "Sylvie and Babs..." on amazon, via scratched CD.

Igor Adkins (Grodd), Friday, 11 November 2005 10:48 (nineteen years ago) link

Up-Tight - 5 Psychedelic Pieces, this is great! Are LSD-March any good as well?
Love Live Life +1 - Love Will Make A Better You. It's pretty great, but they could've done without the American singer really. Every time he isn't singing I can sense him, flailing his hair around or "jamming" on non-mic'd bongos. Sometimes, a time and a place are no excuse.
Nini Rota - The Godfather soundtrack
Chicago - X. I got about 90 seconds into this one.
Next up after Up-Tight is the Vision Quest soundtrack, which I've been looking forward to ever since I picked it up in a charity shop yesterday for 69p.

Che Shizu - Nazareth
Urinals - Negative Capability
Half Japanese - Greatest Hits
Alvarius B - Blood Operatives
Hawkwind - Quark, Strangeness and Charm

Frankie Avalon - Venus 7" I must have played this a gwillion times in the last two weeks. It's zoned in from another , er.... zone.

m.,

the silver jews record is great, better than i thought it would be. gotta write a review for seattle weekly of it, like, today.

broadcast killed last night.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 11 November 2005 15:50 (nineteen years ago) link

i thought broadcast were kinda boring. i left midway thru their set to get some cheeze fries.

Special Agent Dale Koopa (orion), Friday, 11 November 2005 17:00 (nineteen years ago) link

yeah i didn't think you'd like them since you don't know their songs, but since i'm familiar with 'em, i thought they were great.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 11 November 2005 17:13 (nineteen years ago) link

nicole liked em a lot. i was like "meh. indie rock." and i was hungry for cheeze fries.

Special Agent Dale Koopa (orion), Friday, 11 November 2005 17:14 (nineteen years ago) link

they were a lot better than that fucking middle band! why the fuck was tralala on before them, i have no idea.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 11 November 2005 17:22 (nineteen years ago) link

JC, I'm not entirely sure exactly how much of the Moondog thing is previously unreleased. I haven't bored into it and compared tracks with the other officially released stuff. Hopefully this weekend when I have some time I can have a Moondog fest. I had to buy it though, the package looks great, cover repros, double-vinyl, etc. I think I would want it whether it has any rare stuff or not. it's Moondog, you know?

Up-Tight - 5 Psychedelic Pieces, this is great! Are LSD-March any good as well?

Yeah, they have a track on that comp I played as well. Totally great. Seeking a copy of their rare 1st one...

Stormy Davis (diamond), Friday, 11 November 2005 17:23 (nineteen years ago) link

that middle band was the most half-assed A Minor Forest rip off I have ever seen.

and on top of that? British and douchey.

Special Agent Dale Koopa (orion), Friday, 11 November 2005 17:24 (nineteen years ago) link

yeah, they were terrible.
