Also posted some YSI's for the new Cripples album Culture here. If you like the Screamers, Nervous Gender, Great Plains, Devo, earlier Liars, etc. but more poppy, these tracks are worth a listen...

Eddy Grant - Electric Avenue (2001 Remix). it's really stupid.

― Jah Pastafari (jaxon), Tuesday, 13 September 2005 20:11 (twenty-one years ago)

i sold my eddy grant lp : (

― hstencil (hstencil), Tuesday, 13 September 2005 20:12 (twenty-one years ago)

wow someone posted the 12" of Ebn-Ozn's 'AEIOU' to the ILM ysi thread. this is getting scary.

Hirsche Nicht Aufs Sofa - Hutraum / Hutkammer from Musik Für Schuhgeschäfte

the Alice Cooper link comes up 'blocked', but maybe it's just my connection

― milton parker (Jon L), Tuesday, 13 September 2005 20:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmm, the Cripples links are alright... so it's not the extension. Maybe it recognized "AliceCooper" in the file name and blocked it? I'm YSI'ing the track but it's "AC" in the title instead. Let's see what happens.

Alice Cooper "Lay Down And Die, Goodbye" (from Easy Action, 1970) -- AGAIN

― donut Get Behind Me Carbon Dioxide (donut), Tuesday, 13 September 2005 20:37 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, I guess anything with "Alice" and "Cooper" in a file name gets immediately blocked in YSI. Way to go, Public Animal #9!

― donut Get Behind Me Carbon Dioxide (donut), Tuesday, 13 September 2005 20:38 (twenty-one years ago)

(in other words, the second link works now)

― donut Get Behind Me Carbon Dioxide (donut), Tuesday, 13 September 2005 20:38 (twenty-one years ago)

there's the freakout

the Alice Cooper video I saw was from the Cincinnati Pop Festival, 1970. (aka pie in the face). I didn't know they started off as a psyche/freakout band, they go for six minutes at full volume without a single tune and it sounds okay.

that Ebn-Ozn 12" is making my whole day

― milton parker (Jon L), Tuesday, 13 September 2005 21:38 (twenty-one years ago)

at my party one of the co-djs has been mixing Ebn-Ozn w/ Freeze.

― Dan Selzer (Dan Selzer), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 01:34 (twenty-one years ago)

― don't be jerk, this is china (FE7), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 14:38 (twenty-one years ago)

but not cathy's versh

it's weird that anyone else ever tried that piece after cathy

Viktor Vaughn - Modern Day Mugging from Vaudeville Villain

― milton parker (Jon L), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 17:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Meredith Monk could have possibly done a decent job of "Sequenza III".

..which reminds me that I need to YSI a track of hers and another off this once-upon-a-time cheap Wergo sampler CD called Music Of Our Century.

― donut Get Behind Me Carbon Dioxide (donut), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 18:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Luciano Berio "Sequenza III (for female voice)" - Cathy Berberian : performer

I really need to do a cut up remix of this. I'm sure hundred have already done that by now, but we always need a 101st!

...

SPK "Slogun"

..from their second single, also on the Auto Da Fe compilation. I can't call this "important" in the greater context of "noise", as it was barely heard by anybody in 1979 when it came out, but this is VITAL listening today. This song just so eerily foreshadows a lot of 2000-era noise/rock bands. Even down to the humor (a then-anonymous Australian band menacingly shouting purposely bad German)

― donut Get Behind Me Carbon Dioxide (donut), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 19:23 (twenty-one years ago)

I haven't heard too many people sampling Berio/Berberian. Renaldo and the Loaf and Holger Hiller have borrowed from "Visage".

― milton parker (Jon L), Wednesday, 14 September 2005 19:32 (twenty-one years ago)

― hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 15 September 2005 04:31 (twenty-one years ago)

holy shit, I'd read about this but had never heard it... seriously geeked out schulze-chasing there. actually 2 and 5 are fun.

I didn't even know Waldorf had gone out of business till I just googled them. The world belongs to soft-synths now.

I am so glad I sold back my concerts in china CD or else I'd probably be listening to it now

― milton parker (Jon L), Thursday, 15 September 2005 04:44 (twenty-one years ago)

actually if jbr is reading... seriously... kick down music for supermarkets

― milton parker (Jon L), Thursday, 15 September 2005 04:46 (twenty-one years ago)

The Duren album is great. What year was it released?

Vainqueur -- Elevation (Version I)

This is the vinyl version, which is different (and longer) from versions that appeared on some Chain Reaction CD's.

― MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 15 September 2005 06:01 (twenty-one years ago)

that Vainquer link is not working for me.

thx :^D

The world belongs to soft-synths now.

i'm beginning to really hate software synths

― amon (eman), Thursday, 15 September 2005 11:26 (twenty-one years ago)

i managed to dl it but i got several 'connection reset by peer' errors. btw since when does ysi have a resume function? xp

― don't be jerk, this is china (FE7), Thursday, 15 September 2005 11:40 (twenty-one years ago)

jichael mackson - used
jichael mackson feat. albert tempel - blow [edit: unabridged version - now with eight extra minutes of dub techno goodness]

― don't be jerk, this is china (FE7), Thursday, 15 September 2005 11:40 (twenty-one years ago)

The Vainqueur link works fine for me right now. ysi seemed fuxored yesterday when I was trying to d/l stuff from this thread.

― MindInRewind (Barry Bruner), Thursday, 15 September 2005 13:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Amina Claudine Myers - "Have Mercy Upon Us". sweet ass droney, modal jazz with rolling organs. sounds like alice coltrane + vanilla fudge.

― Jaxon (jaxon), Thursday, 15 September 2005 15:40 (twenty-one years ago)

she's playing in nyc this weekend with joseph jarman but i don't think i can go.

― hstencil (hstencil), Thursday, 15 September 2005 15:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Is there something better than YSI for posting large files? I was going to post a side-long track but the file (which should take about an hour to upload) still doesn't finish after several hours.

― walter kranz (walterkranz), Thursday, 15 September 2005 16:48 (twenty-one years ago)

how big is it?

a lot of people use http://www.rapidshare.de, but it kinda sux because you can only download a certain number of megs per hour/day

― Jaxon (jaxon), Thursday, 15 September 2005 16:50 (twenty-one years ago)

rapidshare.de is popular, but has anyone tried

― terry lennox. (gareth), Thursday, 15 September 2005 16:54 (twenty-one years ago)

disc 2 seems to be missing, so ill find it tonight and throw up the phillip jeck and fennesz tomorrow

― bb (bbrz), Thursday, 15 September 2005 17:32 (twenty-one years ago)

there'd bemore....but ysi is mucking with me...and rapidshare is similar

― bb (bbrz), Thursday, 15 September 2005 17:55 (twenty-one years ago)

how big is it?

It's only 30mb so it shouldn't really take that long to upload. I'll see if either of those other options work. Thanks.

― walter kranz (walterkranz), Thursday, 15 September 2005 17:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Inspired by that album from the Waldorf/PPG guy, here's side 2 of an album featuring Don Buchla.

How Much Better if Plymouth Rock Had Landed on the Pilgrims, Section V - David Rosenboom & Don Buchla

― walter kranz (walterkranz), Thursday, 15 September 2005 18:39 (twenty-one years ago)

thanks for that, I've got the vinyl in storage and have been wanting to hear that again. been listening to rosenboom's brainwave music & some live tracks from 1981 recently, they're very good. I hesitate to ask but I'd be obliged if you could share side 1 as well, it's the kind of record I'd burn to a CD

John Oswald - Preplex (Cassette Version) Part 11

released on RRR's "Recycled Music" series. my copy was recorded over an album by Britney Fox.

― milton parker (Jon L), Thursday, 15 September 2005 18:57 (twenty-one years ago)

If I have time I'll digitize side 1 tonight. It's not as interesting though because IIRC it's mostly piano with a little bit of electronic manipulation. Do you still want to hear some Taj Mahal Travellers as mentioned upthread? I can upload the August 1974 album or Live Stockholm 1971 now that I have a better solution than YSI.

― walter kranz (walterkranz), Thursday, 15 September 2005 19:14 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd love to hear those.

if side 1's not already digitized don't worry about it, I agree with your take on it I'm just being a completist.
