I CANT EVEN SIT THROUGH AN ALBUM.....BUT WHEN THEY COME UP ON SHUFFLE...THEY RULE.

SMALL DOSES I GUESS.

ddb (ddb), Friday, 4 March 2005 14:16 (twenty years ago)

the summers last sound/love stepping out 12" is waaay better than the rest of their stuff

charltonlido (gareth), Friday, 4 March 2005 14:53 (twenty years ago)

I found The Last Dance at the Tower Outlet in their closing down sale. Why do DI get such ILM love??? It's as boring as Jandek!!

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Friday, 4 March 2005 15:10 (twenty years ago)

I got some Mantovani records in the same sale, and somedays I swear I'm just going to give up listening to anything besides that and Percy Faith and 101 Strings records.

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Friday, 4 March 2005 15:26 (twenty years ago)

that's what kd lang did.

scott seward (scott seward), Friday, 4 March 2005 15:41 (twenty years ago)

dude, zoe, ilm has awful taste! of course they like 'em! i mean, people like mbv over there!!

Jams Murphy (ystrickler), Friday, 4 March 2005 15:44 (twenty years ago)

D1GN1N POST ONE F4NNYP4CK RECORD.

KTHX
;P

ddb (ddb), Friday, 4 March 2005 16:20 (twenty years ago)

AH! I will do that tomorrow, ddb.

Jams Murphy (ystrickler), Friday, 4 March 2005 16:32 (twenty years ago)

I don't even ever want to hear this band. they're like Ned's faves or something? they must be absolutely brutal.

Stormy Davis (diamond), Friday, 4 March 2005 16:52 (twenty years ago)

I seem to recall that Dance Elzer liked 'em.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Friday, 4 March 2005 16:57 (twenty years ago)

Which could be a good sign, I mean to say.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Friday, 4 March 2005 16:57 (twenty years ago)

disco inferno are ok -- not something i listen to more than maybe 1.5 times every 2 years or so when i'm in the mood for poppier joy division lite.

jack cole (jackcole), Friday, 4 March 2005 17:14 (twenty years ago)

Does one need to be British to enjoy Disco Inferno, Bark Psychosis & AR Kane?

JaXoN Hole (JasonD), Friday, 4 March 2005 17:54 (twenty years ago)

I don't like the vocals.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 4 March 2005 18:21 (twenty years ago)

nice spencer!...BUT CAP LOCK NEXT TIME. SO THE HOMIES IN THE BACK OF THE CLUB CAN HEAR U.

WOOT WOOT!

ddb (ddb), Friday, 4 March 2005 18:26 (twenty years ago)

well, to be fair to them, they are british, and we all know nothing good has come out of there in at least 20 years, right? so expecting them to be up pickle bar standard, is asking a bit much, i mean, they're no fursaxa!

charltonlido (gareth), Friday, 4 March 2005 18:32 (twenty years ago)

FURSAXA ARE AWESOME.

ddb (ddb), Friday, 4 March 2005 18:33 (twenty years ago)

(ignoring the droll, dry wit, not liking one Brit band given perpetual blowjobs by certain ILMers does not equal no good Brit bands in the last twenty years)

(only some of fursaxa is awesome -- fuck limited editions)

jack cole (jackcole), Friday, 4 March 2005 19:04 (twenty years ago)

fursaxa sound kind of like amp/flying saucer attack...

charlton lido (gareth), Friday, 4 March 2005 19:31 (twenty years ago)

i like di go pop. i used to have the singles comp but sold it a while ago.

fursaxa is kinda boring, at least the one time i saw her at tonic. i really liked UN tho, even tho scott seward said the same thing about them that i'm saying about fursaxa!

oh gareth, let it go.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 4 March 2005 19:53 (twenty years ago)

shit...i am confusing FURSAXA...with FUXA.

FURSAXA is OK.
FUXA (Detroit Droners) are AWESOME!!!

ddb (ddb), Friday, 4 March 2005 20:07 (twenty years ago)

not as good as the sadly forgotten Grimble Grumble though

charltonlido (gareth), Friday, 4 March 2005 20:10 (twenty years ago)

GOD JOR-EL, YOU WOULD GO ON ABOUT HOW GREAT UN WERE. WAX NOSTALGIC ABOUT GALAXIE 500 AND TEENAGE FANCLUB FOR ME SOME MORE.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Friday, 4 March 2005 20:17 (twenty years ago)

galaxie 500 = great
teenage fanclub = only like the first one, sorta liked "bandwagonesque," lost track over that
listening to the radio and falling for every shitty band on there = overrated

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 4 March 2005 20:18 (twenty years ago)

altho i guess since those radio bands are "lucky" i should admire them? maybe i should ask them to handicap the latest post times at aqueuct for me.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 4 March 2005 20:19 (twenty years ago)

Yeah yeah, "everything rises to its level" -- good one. Again, EVERYTHING RISES TO THE LEVEL THAT SOME BIGWIG DETERMINES.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Friday, 4 March 2005 20:22 (twenty years ago)

http://keneckert.byus.net/ken/matrix/Matr-Architect.jpg

bnw (bnw), Friday, 4 March 2005 20:25 (twenty years ago)

And if you happen to be the artist that bigwig chooses, you might consider it LUCK.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Friday, 4 March 2005 20:26 (twenty years ago)

"stereolab coulda been huge, mahhhhhn"

dude they were in a vw ad and they STILL don't sell more than dead ol' nick drake!

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 4 March 2005 20:26 (twenty years ago)

I AM TALKING TO A WALL

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Friday, 4 March 2005 20:28 (twenty years ago)

SO THE FUCK AM I.

except the wall I'm talking to is incredibly naive for his age, and seems to want to willfully misunderstand how the music business actually works.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 4 March 2005 20:29 (twenty years ago)

Why is it that you refuse to accept that there can be any arbitrariness in how a particular artist becomes popular?

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Friday, 4 March 2005 20:34 (twenty years ago)

I just don't buy that there was no possible marketing strategy that could have resulted in Stereolab having a hit single. You would think that the people at Elektra thought the same or they wouldn't have signed them in the first place.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Friday, 4 March 2005 20:52 (twenty years ago)

they tried their best to market them, stereolab just didn't stick, okay? i'm not blaming the band or elektra! let it go.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 4 March 2005 20:53 (twenty years ago)

I'm just saying, wrong place, wrong time? Not a good enough marketing strategy or big enough budget? It doesn't seem inconceivable to me that they could have been bigger or even had a breakout single at some point.

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Friday, 4 March 2005 20:57 (twenty years ago)

NOT GOOD ENOUGH BAND BROSKI

ddb (ddb), Friday, 4 March 2005 21:00 (twenty years ago)

it's not inconceivable to me either that they coulda been bigger! i just don't see the point of "what-if?"-ing everything. life's too short.

jaymc (jaymc), Friday, 4 March 2005 21:05 (twenty years ago)

"ILM" is a broad range of differing tastes and opposing attitudes, it is not a singular, fixed entity.

adam.r.l. (nordicskilla), Friday, 4 March 2005 21:06 (twenty years ago)

Who or what is "Disco Inferno"

adam.r.l. (nordicskilla), Friday, 4 March 2005 21:06 (twenty years ago)

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 4 March 2005 21:27 (twenty years ago)

I LIKE CRAPPY BRITISH BANDS A LOT BUT DISCO INFERNO STILL IS BOOOOOOOORING

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Saturday, 5 March 2005 03:02 (twenty years ago)

YEAH ME TOO...YAY Z03!

ddb (ddb), Saturday, 5 March 2005 03:05 (twenty years ago)

I found a copy of that Disco Inferno CD used at Aron's Records in L.A. and I listened to it.

I should really stop taking ILM's advice!

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Saturday, 5 March 2005 03:11 (twenty years ago)

don't believe the hype, Gear!

This is why I am not going out of my way to listen to M.I.A or Annie (I heard Annie on the radio, it sounded like a Ladytron song. Which I like, but still.)

tokyo rosemary (rosemary), Sunday, 6 March 2005 03:14 (twenty years ago)

Simon Reynolds does not like M.I.A.

Annie is rubbish.

adam.r.l. (nordicskilla), Sunday, 6 March 2005 03:28 (twenty years ago)

Adam, why don't you like Annie?

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Sunday, 6 March 2005 04:49 (twenty years ago)

little orphan annie?

eman (eman), Sunday, 6 March 2005 07:04 (twenty years ago)

they're good! its just you need to hear beyond the gimick ( omg they trigger samples with the guitar) the voice ( omg they sound like the go betweens) and ned (fer fucksakes ned likes lots of good stuff))

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Sunday, 6 March 2005 08:40 (twenty years ago)

If I say I prefer Bark Psychosis do I get a yellow card ??????????

brg30 (brg30), Sunday, 6 March 2005 14:38 (twenty years ago)

I said it, before M.I.A.'s okay but people like her more because she makes for a good essay, she's not really any better than many out there right now. I've only heard "Heartbeat" by Annie and I like it.

Gear! (can Jung shill it, Mu?) (Gear!), Monday, 7 March 2005 02:16 (twenty years ago)

naw bark psychosis is awesome.

cutty (mcutt), Monday, 7 March 2005 03:10 (twenty years ago)

ned also likes loads of crap (as we all probably do). see OASIS.

jack cole (jackcole), Monday, 7 March 2005 03:12 (twenty years ago)

fuck a world where i have to qualify statements so nobody cries or throws a fit. I AM NOT HALF THE MAN I USED TO BE AND I AM POORER FOR IT.

jack cole (jackcole), Monday, 7 March 2005 05:10 (twenty years ago)

OK, this saves me the trouble of listening to DI. I actually almost bought a record of theirs. Close call. I like M.I.A., though. I did enjoy one track by Annie but it wasn't "Heartbeat" which I thought was nothing special..

daria g (daria g), Monday, 7 March 2005 05:31 (twenty years ago)

"fuck a world where i have to qualify statements so nobody cries or throws a fit."

ROFFEL

Tim Ellison (Tim Ellison), Monday, 7 March 2005 06:38 (twenty years ago)

ok ok i never realised ned liked oasis

mullygrubbr (bulbs), Monday, 7 March 2005 07:09 (twenty years ago)

Recording of zebra eating vulture.. does this exist?

daria g (daria g), Monday, 7 March 2005 07:20 (twenty years ago)

Or zebra being eaten by vulture, even.

daria g (daria g), Monday, 7 March 2005 07:21 (twenty years ago)

"fuck a world where i have to qualify statements so nobody cries or throws a fit.".

jack cole (jackcole), Monday, 7 March 2005 07:40 (twenty years ago)

How naive am I, I downloaded some Disco Inferno expecting it to actually be disco. Instead: CRUSHING BORINGNESS

Dan I. (Dan I.), Wednesday, 9 March 2005 08:06 (twenty years ago)

three years pass...

fuck this thread

r1o natsume, Friday, 15 August 2008 20:59 (seventeen years ago)
