Pick the Most Necessary from Each Console or Build Your Ideal Collection

I was skimming thru the nintendo adverts on the local Craigslist when I realized that I was hitting more & more Gamecube collections. Folks were selling their entire systems, usually with 5-10 games. I noticed that for $200 or less, you could easily get the best & brightest of what the GC had to offer.

If you were going to select a group of games from each console that you'd hang on to, just for fun or to demonstrate what each console could do, what would you pick? If you could build a proper demonstrative library of each system, a collection that you could hand to someone and say "here ya go, this is what made this system so great," what would you go with? I guess this is effectively a POX or desert island games thread, but whatevs.

Here's my GC list to start:

Metroit Prime
Eternal Darkness
Pikmin
Harvest Moon/Animal Crossing (take yer pick)
Zelda: Wind Waker
SSB Melee
Viewtiful Joe
Resident Evil 4

I can't think of a memorable RPG that I played on that platform, tho. GBAs & PS2s were far better in that category.

So pick a platform or three, and what would you include? (We'll leave PC games for another thread)

I dunno, I'm just in a place where I don't seem to want to play anyfink on the PS2 anymore.

Boom Dershowitz (noodle vague), Thursday, 4 January 2007 18:21 (eighteen years ago)

Well yeah, but there's nothing you' throw in there as a proper example? my ps2 list would have stuff like Dark Cloud 2 or SSX Tricky along with GTA:SA.

I'm sort of amazed no-one has picked Fahrenheit/Indigo Prophecy for the PS2.

Craig Gilchrist (Craig Gilchrist), Monday, 8 January 2007 08:27 (eighteen years ago)

Indigo Prophecy is cool, but short. Like Trace Memory short. Way the fuck better than Trace Memory though.

Marmot (marmotwolof), Sunday, 14 January 2007 06:29 (eighteen years ago)

I traded Trace Memory in to the local used store, got the GBA LttP for $4. Wheee.
