peter vecsey, who has been known to occasionally just make shit up, reports that pau is on the block. if he went to the right team, it could change everything! everything!

anyway there've been a few trades already, most notably iverson was traded for a some stuff denver had lying around in the garage and Pacers / Warriors Megatrade and earl boykins was traded for steve blake and chirs webber was bought out then signed w/detroit.

anyway shit is starting to heat up, totally the best time of the season besides the draft. this is yr repository for rampant speculation, absurd rumors, retarded proposals and ignorant analysis.

yay!

so to kick this wonderful celebration off i will propose gerald greene, theo ratliff and this years celtics first round pick for pau.

griz get a promising young player who shoots lights out, has absurd athleticism, has been compared to mcgrady etc and a contract that expires at the end of next season and a middling draft pick in one of the strongest drafts ever.

celtics get an all-start big man to pair with the soon to be aging rapidly but still on top of his game paul pierce, the emerging low post behemoth al jefferson and their assembled crew of young role players. add a good coach (danny ainge) and the team would be instantly credible in the east (at least). (i know they look pitiful now but the c's were playing .500 ball before pierce got injured, since then jefferson has become an unstoppable double double machine and he's just in his 3rd year out of hs and doc rivers is a shitty shitty coach, so if you upgrade that dude...)

The popular rumor is Chicago trading Deng and PJ Brown's expiring deal for Pau.

In me being a total homer news, I really hope the Kings can trump that with a Brad Miller/Vitaly Potapenko's expiring deal/Future Pick or Ron Artest/Potapenko/Jason Hart's expiring deal package. I like Pau.

That would be horrible if the Bulls gave up Deng. I'd rather them build for 3 years from now rather than for now. They exactly struggling this year (except against the west, but they did beat SA and have been in nearly every game).

Any deal that Chicago does should involve Noc and Ben Gordon.

Jeff. (Jeff), Monday, 22 January 2007 23:21 (eighteen years ago)

don't trade Tyrus!

i doubt the bulls can get gasol w/out including deng. maybe some sort of gordon + thomas + knicks pick + filler could work. but the griz will probably get some pretty good offers for him.

Walter (Scarsdale): Can't the Celtics put together a better package for Gasol than the Bulls, especially if you throw in their first round pick, which should be better than the Knick/Bulls'??

John Hollinger: Just to clear this up: There is NO WAY the Celtics (or Sixers, or Hawks, or Bobcats, etc.) will include their first round pick in such a deal, not when it can get you a superstar player who will play virtually for free for four years before you have to pay him.

Bulls have said Deng is off limits, as is Hinrich, Gordon and Nocioni, but things have a way of changing. I don't want Pau! Definitely not if it means losing Tyrus, and a shot at Oden. Gasol's ok, but he doesn't seem to have much of a fire in him. Much much much would rather hold out for Garnett. KG would make this team unstoppable.

deng is also only 21! dude's awesome, i can't see any upside in trading him.

roger goodell (gear), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 02:10 (eighteen years ago)

yeah he's the only one I wouldn't consider trading. UNLESS it was for garnett.

Chesty Joe Morgan (Chesty Joe Morgan), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 05:33 (eighteen years ago)

i like deng a lot too, but considering gasol is a seven footer who can really play, there's a good chance that he never becomes as valuable as gasol. he's never going to be the best player on a top team. he seems like a second best type of guy - shoots a high %, rebounds, plays d etc. i wouldn't be surprised if chicago pulls the trigger on this, it would guarantee them the east. but then again maybe they'll keep waiting around for garnett, who is never getting traded by the insane timberwolves.

and there's almost no chance that knicks pick turns into oden or durant. they have the 11th worst record right now and there's not really injuries that can totally derail them as they're stacked with mediocre players at every position - they could even make the playoffs.

jhoshea (scoopsnoodle), Wednesday, 24 January 2007 15:21 (eighteen years ago)

re: knick pick getting oden, i know the chances keep getting smaller every day, but i figure if i keep saying it will, it'll become true.
i dunno, i am just not very impressed by gasol. this team needs leadership just as much as it needs inside scoring, and i don't see him providing much of the former. still, if they can get him without crippling their ability to make additional moves, i suppose they should.
