I wonder why MNF didn't try to pull the same deal NBC did with the flex schedule.

They probably figure the Theisheiser one-two combination makes any game plenty exciting. That and the bobblehead derby.

xpost - my guess is 'you're espn - be very happy with what we're giving you' plus my hunch is that a speedbump for implementing the flexsched for football nites in america besides other networks going 'o hell no' was logistical issues popping up w/ moving a game to monday that don't exist w/ merely starting it a few hours later. plus this move gets nfl in primetime two nites a week (including the second biggest tv nite now), broadcast by every network family, insane promotion from that. i can never figure how they do such a bad job picking the nonflex games - how the hell is oakland in primetime AGAIN tonight???

j blount (papa la bas), Monday, 6 November 2006 17:21 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah, that's the thing, I mean MNF is notorious for picking hugely disasterous match-ups. I don't know what bet in hell they lost that they keep picking up Oakland games, or that AZ-Bears game which amazingly turned out interesting but STILL, Cardinals v Bears??? Who picked that? Seattle v Oakland?? This person should be fired

Allyzay Eisenschefter (allyzay), Monday, 6 November 2006 17:23 (eighteen years ago)

I guess if both nights were full of crappy games and they didn't institute the flex schedule, people would ignore the late nite broadcast, and the point of moving the Sun game to network was to improve the audience for that one--shitty games aren't going to help with that, ask MNF.

yeah well abc went 'we're so fucking hot right now we don't need mnf' which would've left no primetime network nfl and then nbc was 'we're so desperate we will suck yr dick two times for nfl rights' so they managed to grab pretty much nbc's entire primetime block on sunday and they get espn going crazy promo nuts for mnf anyhow (i do wonder just how many fewer viewers mnf has this season compared to last). i was thinking that maybe espn had some thing in their contract where they had to carry at least each nfl team at least once during the season but the math tells me there's no way that's the case - i'm guessing az somehow got on mnf cuz of new stadium? espn going a little too overboard in buying third year running 'cards will be good this year, no really' predix? the oakland thing i can't figure at all. they are who we thought they were.

j blount (papa la bas), Monday, 6 November 2006 17:38 (eighteen years ago)

OTTO: when's the last time the pats lost two in a row? i know it's been a long time.

j blount (papa la bas), Monday, 6 November 2006 17:41 (eighteen years ago)

It's hard to quantify how many viewers they've lost; I mean there are a lot of people who don't have cable who CAN'T watch the games if they're on ESPN but that number goes down by the day. Especially since they're basically phasing out regular broadcast signals and they get shittier to receive via rabbit ears by the day. So I guess it's a matter of, who watched the games on ABC (ie not in a bar) before the switch, and out of those people, how many do NOT have cable, because I really doubt anyone with basic cable didn't just follow over if they're interested in football. So, it's a small gamble on the NFL's part--and a huge bonus for ESPN, I mean they're getting the highest ratings they've ever received (I believe highest ratings ever for a cable television program??).

also: jets beatin new england, u mad????

Allyzay Eisenschefter (allyzay), Monday, 6 November 2006 17:47 (eighteen years ago)

you are forgetting something: week 2. jets are crappy yet play above where they're at. pats seem unfocused and weak. and nobody thought the dolphins would win yesterday either.

hstencil (hstencil), Monday, 6 November 2006 18:02 (eighteen years ago)

I THOUGHT THE DOLPHINS WOULD WIN!!

Anyway the Pats definitely seemed completely unfocused last night (by "Pats" I basically mean "Tom Brady"), the assumption I'm making is that they'll be pissed off about the loss this week and take it out on the Jets. But yeah, the Jets have quietly been playing a lot better than anyone thought they would be. The thing is, they aren't as good as the Pats so it'd take a lot of luck for them to pull it out, in Foxboro.

Allyzay Eisenschefter (allyzay), Monday, 6 November 2006 18:07 (eighteen years ago)

If Ashley turns down Bradykins @ a bar this week, GAME ON.

David R. (popshots75`), Monday, 6 November 2006 18:19 (eighteen years ago)

If Cotchery and Coles can break away from their corner coverages, the Jets could be in the endzone all day.

Johnny Fever (johnny fever), Monday, 6 November 2006 18:20 (eighteen years ago)

MNF has been setting "most watched cable program of all time" records a couple times this season. but yeah, I do wonder how appreciably less the move to cable has been.

Ravens, Colts, Browns, Vikings, Jaguars, Chiefs, Jets, Bengals, Lions, Eagles, Broncos, Cardinals, Saints, Seahawks, Giants, Panthers.

That's right, fuck the Cowboys. I would like to put some more "upsets" in there but there are some franchises that I think are immune to trending upwards mid-season.

FACTS: I'M A WAITER (TOMBOT), Monday, 6 November 2006 19:08 (eighteen years ago)

I should note that almost every time this season a team has come back from a tough loss and I expect them to "take it out" on the team they play the next week, they just go and fuck up again.

Also I'm saying Browns because I just associate Michael Vick with Jon Williams now

(9ò_ó)-o Q(^.^Q) (Adrian Langston), Wednesday, 8 November 2006 19:59 (eighteen years ago)

They barely held off SD in Kansas City. Rivers has looked frightened and rattled early in loud, competitive road games, but he is getting better week by week. I guarantee that SD will beat KC in San Diego later this season.

Wouldn't be surprised if the AFC West gets two wild card spots.

woah the Louisville - Rutgers game actually was extremely awesome! probably the best college game so far this season! The Auburn-LSU game was kind of cool in its weird way, but this was really entertaining. I take back all bad words ever spoken about the big east.

Yeah Rutgers!!! I know they have no shot at a title and this is why the insane BCS system is so screwed up. At least if there was an eight team playoff they would get a chance to prove themselves. That December 2 game against WVU is looking much bigger now.

The reporter lady who interviewed the Rutgers running back after the game tried her hardest to try to get him to gloat about how no one gave them a chance or about how they should be the #1 team in the nation but all he would do is say how much he loved his team and his family and how proud he was.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Friday, 10 November 2006 18:49 (eighteen years ago)
