Down with kickers.

Both college football and NFL should have the player who scores the touchdown kick the PAT. Suddenly teams would rather go for two than have linebacker try to pooch kick. I came to this conclusion after the shank-a-thon of the orange bowl.

You can still have one (1) kicker for kickoffs and punts.

teams go for two too much as is, it's coaching 'genius'.

I've seen this in Arena Football 2, and trust me, it doesn't make the game any better.

The hell they do...

the pooch kick or the 2pt conversion?

I thought there was a flurry of TWO TWO TWO when the rule was instated - weren't there a few Andy Reid "go for 2 on the first TD" moments? - but now it's only saved for necessary situations. Or for when 'geniuses' want to go for their PhD in overthinking.

I stand by my suggestion.

are you outlawing field goals too? or forcing teams to go for it on fourth and less than, say, three?

mookieproof (mookieproof), Thursday, 5 January 2006 17:56 (nineteen years ago)

sure, have one (1) kicker for FGs

Yesterday, Shaun Alexander got league MVP. Did you know that a kicker once won NFL league MVP?!? This fact blew my mind. How could anyone let that happen. Was it a gag? Holy crap.

Mark Mosely, 1982 Redskins. I remember him, one of the last "straight on" kickers, but MVP?

Strike shortened season, they were all confused.

if the cardinals didn't suck in every other category, maybe their kicker dude coulda gotten it.

hstencil (hstencil), Friday, 6 January 2006 15:45 (nineteen years ago)

True fact (I think): a kicker has won MVP but no WR ever has!

I often think about how it would be so cool, and yet totally lame at the same time, if somebody developed a method for kicking FGs with 90% accuracy from 50+ yards, they could make QBs obsolete. Just get the ball back on downs, spend all your salary cap cash on defensive talent (and the Bionic Leg). Offensive production would be entirely in multiples of 3! People would stop watching!

So you take the opposite stance from Jimmy Mod. I smell controversy?

To play devil's advocate, YOU PLAY TO WIN TEH GAME...

I think the egos of WRs prevent anyone voting for them, fearing they might become even a little bit more obnoxious.

earlnash, Friday, 6 January 2006 16:49 (nineteen years ago)

Rice never won MVP? Scandalous!
