what is the tweeist thing you have done?

this is quite twee i suppose...

gareth (gareth), Monday, 11 November 2002 09:50 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm against Tweeism.

DV (dirtyvicar), Monday, 11 November 2002 10:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Recorded a song with glockenspiel on it. And I will NEVER live this down. No one turned it over and heard the fantastic sub-Velvets spacerock with crazy stereo tremolo on the other side. They just heard the Glockenspiel, went THIS IS TWEE and dismissed it. Sigh.

kate, Monday, 11 November 2002 11:43 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't do twee anything. Although I have a Hello Kitty sticker on my walkman and many on my gitbox.

electric sound of jim (electricsound), Monday, 11 November 2002 11:59 (twenty-three years ago)

Hello Kitty = SURE SIGN YOU ARE PART OF THE AXIS OF TWEEEEVIL!!!

kate, Monday, 11 November 2002 12:02 (twenty-three years ago)

I own about 40 soft toys.

Tom (Groke), Monday, 11 November 2002 12:54 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm trying to get rid of twee things in my life, by being as hard as nails. I am not actually very twee anyway, so it's quite easy. I own 3 soft toys, and ahem, a comfort blanket.

alix (alix), Monday, 11 November 2002 13:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Hmmm...the only Sanrio item I own is a Chococat coin purse. But surely black = Goth?

j.lu (j.lu), Monday, 11 November 2002 13:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Gothocat.

alix (alix), Monday, 11 November 2002 13:19 (twenty-three years ago)

I have an Afro Ken watch and [I left at Gareth's] a multicolored plastic glitter hearts bracelet I got from a cracker. I have 12 soft toys position in every cranny and nook of my bedroom.

Graham (graham), Monday, 11 November 2002 13:40 (twenty-three years ago)

I have some cutesy little barrettes I put in from time to time. And loads of glittery lip gloss that was marketed for 14 year olds. The tweeist thing? hmmm... Maybe my senior year of high school when my friends and I had an easter egg hunt together at a park.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 11 November 2002 14:07 (twenty-three years ago)

does liking the Kings of Convenience make me a tweeist?

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 11 November 2002 14:13 (twenty-three years ago)

No, it just makes you a wimp that we should Snicker-snag on. Wait, that's gross.

I have been accused of being twee by some. Ya rat bastards. TWEE PEOPLE DO NOT WORSHIP AMBROSE BIERCE.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 11 November 2002 15:21 (twenty-three years ago)

ha i saw ginger bloke from KoC at camden tube trying to work out how to buy a tube ticket the other week. he looked soooo confused, bless his little cotton sox...

CarsmileSteve (CarsmileSteve), Monday, 11 November 2002 15:25 (twenty-three years ago)

i think most of the music i listen to makes me a tweeist, seeing as most of it has been considered TWEE. Yay, TWEE, TWEE, TWEE!!! It doesn't make me a wimp Ned, it makes me sincere and the chicks dig that.

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 11 November 2002 15:29 (twenty-three years ago)

I was going to say I'm not twee, but now I remember what happened this weekend. My room was painted last week or something and so everything had to be moved out, including these massive teddy things that I've had for years and years, like fucking huge novelty toys. Anyway they'd been moved to the conservatory (it's above the wine cellar but below the swimming pool, ahem). So when me and my friend were drinking on thursday night we decided we needed some company and he put them on chairs around the tables with empty cans in front of them. It was pretty stupid, but they're still there now and anyone who has come in since finds it a bit odd.

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 11 November 2002 15:32 (twenty-three years ago)

and the chicks dig that

Your wife must really appreciate that these days. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 11 November 2002 15:34 (twenty-three years ago)

Didn't Suzy punch one of the Kings of Convenience ... ?

kate, Monday, 11 November 2002 15:36 (twenty-three years ago)

your use of the passive voice in the second sentence betrays your aristo habits well enough, ronan

i have a knit winter hat with a pattern of ducks

*ducks*

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Monday, 11 November 2002 15:36 (twenty-three years ago)

I am the exact opposite of twee.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 11 November 2002 15:39 (twenty-three years ago)

(Haha I am eewt.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 11 November 2002 15:40 (twenty-three years ago)

i meant to follow it up with the chicks did dig that, 7 years ago! the wife chick hates it.

Chris V. (Chris V), Monday, 11 November 2002 15:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Which is why you have wisely switched to the Adam Ant option, as the man is anything but twee. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 11 November 2002 15:43 (twenty-three years ago)

I decorate things with Pokemon and have a Sailor Moon scroll hanging in my room, but musically I don't think I'm very twee.

Dan, I thought you were a proponent of Butterfly (Pikachu mix)! (Which of course would automatically make you twee)

Vinnie (vprabhu), Monday, 11 November 2002 19:13 (twenty-three years ago)

I don't think I really qualify as twee. Now, before anyone who's been to my house argues with me - THOSE ARE NOT MY STUFFED ANIMALS! I mean, they ARE but not by my own personal choice. Apparently everyone I date thinks I'm 13.

Oh, wait, I guess I watch cartoons sometimes, that's pretty twee.

Ally (mlescaut), Monday, 11 November 2002 19:35 (twenty-three years ago)

TWEE music rools. Musically, I bet I am the tweeist on ILM. I am not especially twee in my day to day life though.

g (graysonlane), Monday, 11 November 2002 19:41 (twenty-three years ago)

i am not twee, i do not like stuffed toys and tolerate them in my sons room because he is only 8 months old, otherwise they would not be permitted in the house.

the closest i get to being anywhere Near twee is a cushion i made in the style of a fat cat, and i did that whilst under the ( short-lived ) delusion that the moron i was dating was cool, and he liked 'bagpuss' - apparently a cat on tv from his childhood.

donna (donna), Monday, 11 November 2002 19:42 (twenty-three years ago)

I once cried at an episode of the Powerpuff Girls

Go On (Dom Passantino), Monday, 11 November 2002 19:47 (twenty-three years ago)

"bagpuss = apparently a cat on tv from his childhood" is like saying "dallas = apparently a soap opera about rich texans"

mark s (mark s), Monday, 11 November 2002 19:51 (twenty-three years ago)

NO DISSING BAGPUSS! And Ronan, one of us (chants with Alang)? But you left out the orangery. (Run! Run while you still can!)

Yes, my life is a mass of lazy bloody student 80s nostalgia, and I am indeed a despicable tweeist, even if I did swear at University Challenge last week when nobody knew who Ambrose Bierce was, so I'm afraid you're wrong, Ned. Sorry and all that.

Rebecca in space (reb), Monday, 11 November 2002 20:06 (twenty-three years ago)

I only wear burlap and sleep in sheets made of stainless steel. Yall're pussies.

Yancey (ystrickler), Monday, 11 November 2002 20:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Dan, I thought you were a proponent of Butterfly (Pikachu mix)! (Which of course would automatically make you twee)

That merely makes me a proponent of absurdity.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 11 November 2002 20:13 (twenty-three years ago)

One Christmas I made my tiny greyhound wear the fuzzy, monogrammed sweater my mother had knitted for the dog. I recall that a greyhound wearing a fuzzy sweater is Mr. Perry's very definition of twee.

felicity (felicity), Monday, 11 November 2002 20:19 (twenty-three years ago)

ESPECIALLY a tiny greyhound. (I must now find the thread where I said this.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 11 November 2002 20:23 (twenty-three years ago)

behold

felicity (felicity), Monday, 11 November 2002 20:33 (twenty-three years ago)

The only review of my band so far:

"The Id took the stage next, and one of the band's members wore a K Records t-shirt, which appeared to foreshadow the The Id's sound - minimalist rock with purposefully off-kilter drumming and vocals. The band seemed very practiced in their slightly off-balance twee pop, bringing to mind many K Records bands."

We were pissed. Then we cried. Just kidding about the crying.

Nick A. (Nick A.), Monday, 11 November 2002 20:43 (twenty-three years ago)

Can someone please explain to me how ILM's hardline anti-tweeites are fundamentally different from the gay-baiting frat-rockers that said anti-tweeites also so often claim to despise?

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 11 November 2002 21:14 (twenty-three years ago)

WTF? Are you serious?

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 11 November 2002 21:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Fuck you mark! Let's go get the keg, Dan.

Yancey (ystrickler), Monday, 11 November 2002 21:19 (twenty-three years ago)

WTF? Are you serious?

Haha! Well, kinda, yeah.

(Or maybe I just have an especially out-of-whack definition of twee. I wouldn't have linked Hello Kitty and stuffed animals to twee; more cordouroy and Belle & Sebastian and... ah fuck it.)

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 11 November 2002 21:21 (twenty-three years ago)

NB: I am NOT twee!

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 11 November 2002 21:22 (twenty-three years ago)

I take severe issue with the statement "You dislike twee => You like homophobic frat-rock". That's not a valid inference.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 11 November 2002 21:28 (twenty-three years ago)

I didn't say that, Dan!

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 11 November 2002 21:29 (twenty-three years ago)

Perry, DUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUDE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! LETS HIT THE BEER HUT!!!!

Ronan (Ronan), Monday, 11 November 2002 21:30 (twenty-three years ago)

B-b-b-but will they have apricot wheat ale?

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 11 November 2002 21:33 (twenty-three years ago)

Well, I was going for the weaker interpretation. The stronger interpretation is "You dislike twee => You are a homophobic frat-rocker", which is even worse.

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Monday, 11 November 2002 21:41 (twenty-three years ago)

Carsmile, I've *been* on the rtube several times with Erlend, who lived here for long enough! You're just trying to hang with the un-twee kidz, admit it :)

Mark C (Mark C), Monday, 11 November 2002 21:51 (twenty-three years ago)

Dan, the correlation I was making was one of seemingly similar (dis)spirit; I absolutely at no point meant to imply that anti-tweeism was latent homophobia (or for that matter, latent frat-rockism).

(Anyway, this was a fun thread and I'm sorry for derailing it.)

mark p (Mark P), Monday, 11 November 2002 21:52 (twenty-three years ago)

was bagpuss cool? i like my cushion but never saw the show, i dont think it even got here.
mine had a handle but it fell off, and his whiskers have disappeared inside his tum somehow :-(

donna (donna), Monday, 11 November 2002 22:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Urgh, stuffed animals, gonks, etc make me RAGE. They are HORRIBLE.

Also despite being small and accused of Tweevil on many occasions (mostly by Nick trying to wind me up), I prefer Murakami to Sanrio in any case.

suzy (suzy), Monday, 11 November 2002 22:13 (twenty-three years ago)

his whiskers have disappeared inside his tum somehow :-(

what a sad story.

RJG (RJG), Monday, 11 November 2002 22:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Can someone please explain to me how ILM's hardline anti-tweeites are fundamentally different from the gay-baiting frat-rockers that said anti-tweeites also so often claim to despise?

Mark I think you are in need of my Heavenly/Nashville Pussy/Harry Pussy/Neil Young mix tape....

brg30 (brg30), Monday, 11 November 2002 22:41 (twenty-three years ago)

I'm a Twee-O-Phile.

Daniel_Rf (Daniel_Rf), Monday, 11 November 2002 23:05 (twenty-three years ago)

Tweeism?

Is that the new Boards of Canada record?

mr drongo, Monday, 11 November 2002 23:12 (twenty-three years ago)

I own a VHS video called "Baby Animals Just Wanna Have Fun!"

Mandee, Monday, 11 November 2002 23:17 (twenty-three years ago)

Come on baby let's do the tweeist

(I own a Kurt Angle action figure. Is that twee?)

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 00:03 (twenty-three years ago)

(I own a Kurt Angle action figure. Is that twee?)

Twee would never quote DMX lyrics. Anyway, tweeist wrestler ever = Barry Windham.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 00:10 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh come on. What about Crash Holly?

Nate Patrin (Nate Patrin), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 01:55 (twenty-three years ago)

oh god, i listen to belle and sebastian AND love hello kitty...
sigh.

***1979*** (***1979***), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 02:21 (twenty-three years ago)

I have a lunchbox in a cupboard somewhere. Am I club kid or twee?

Arthur (Arthur), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 03:35 (twenty-three years ago)

I have never done anything twee in my entire life.

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 10:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Twee would never quote DMX lyrics.

but see when i do this i imagine him with a gigantic head like the characters in puzzle fighter.

Honda (Honda), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 10:19 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh come on. What about Crash Holly?

Oh yeah, like twee would even touch peroxide.

Dom Passantino (Dom Passantino), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 10:57 (twenty-three years ago)

Cutey wind-up birds are the ultimate in twee, Ms C.

Graham (graham), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 11:08 (twenty-three years ago)

Can we go back a bit please? I would really like to hear about Suzy punching one of the Kings of Convenience. It wasn't Erlend was it? Many people do seem to want to punch him.

Tag, Tuesday, 12 November 2002 11:14 (twenty-three years ago)

the hate for KoC is so strong....

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 13:57 (twenty-three years ago)

(cripes i thought those were Butterflies of Love lyrics that were being quited above! does that make me twee!?!)

katie (katie), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 14:00 (twenty-three years ago)

QUOTED. damn my crap typing skillz.

katie (katie), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 14:00 (twenty-three years ago)

I will never admit to it! An army of Hello Kitties does not a tweeist make.

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 14:09 (twenty-three years ago)

Not many people who meet me seem to think me twee, but I reckon my old skool twee credentials are second to none around here (poss exception: Tag, heh).

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 14:14 (twenty-three years ago)

Oh Gawd, it was the one that looked like Beaker, the Swedish Chef's assistant and I was actually punching someone else entirely, some drippy Cocker Spaniel indie-kid who *would not leave me alone* and had been warned three times to do so.

KoC boy was just in the way, I'd no idea anything had happened to him until RickyT came up to me and said so, and asked me to apologise and I was like, 'WTF? When did that happen?' only to be told that it was a "political" apology. It was a very awful night.

Apparently I busted his glasses!

suzy (suzy), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 14:23 (twenty-three years ago)

I liked your story anyway, Suzy.

Tim, I don't know about you, but when we was very young and wrote fanzines and bought records on labels like Narodnik and Subway (before we were told not to by Ubersteppenfuhrer Haines), the last word I ever wanted to hear to describe the music I liked was "twee". Indie became a sad joke the day people actually starting to think "twee" was a compliment. Or maybe we're reclaiming the word to destroy its negative connotations? Woo-hoo, fight the power.

Tag, Tuesday, 12 November 2002 15:11 (twenty-three years ago)

Narodnik? Sell-out.

You're right of course. Flexidiscs were a PUNK ROCK STAND AGAINST THE MUSIC BUSINESS AND ROCKISM. And stuff.

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 15:16 (twenty-three years ago)

Tim, to what extent did you believe that? I'm curious. I know I wasn't daft enough to think it was going to bring down the system, but it did seem important to do things yourself. I still think that, I just have better taste now. No, really, I do!

Tag, Tuesday, 12 November 2002 15:54 (twenty-three years ago)

To tell the truth, it's hard to remember. I was (and am) convinced that the whole project was Punk Rock, but I think it was already obvious even to me that the music business survived punk and it was probably going to survive fanzines printed with yellow ink on white paper. Yes, a sense of independent creativity was crucial to middle-sized me.

What did I hope to achieve? Shop Assistants (or - better still - me) on TOTP? Some kind of sustainable underground network? I suppose that latter thing was achieved, and it seems a bit narrow and distasteful to me.

Heh you know if it wasn't important they wouldn't have written it out of history.

Tim (Tim), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 16:06 (twenty-three years ago)

Yeah - that's pretty much the way I saw it. It certainly wasn't a project to turn social inadequacy into an virtue. I blame the Field Mice. For most things.

Tag, Tuesday, 12 November 2002 16:12 (twenty-three years ago)

I met the famous girl with the "Fuck Me I'm Twee" T-shirt... and did.

conker, Tuesday, 12 November 2002 16:30 (twenty-three years ago)

I will never admit to it! An army of Hello Kitties does not a tweeist make.

Any accusations of my tweeness from this corner will now be roundly mocked. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 18:23 (twenty-three years ago)

probably, going to a novak gig was the tweeist thing I've ever done. Other punters gave me a wide berth.

Hello kitty is a corporate avatar.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 19:53 (twenty-three years ago)

Who said corporate avatars can't be twee? Look at Grimace, fer crissakes!

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 19:57 (twenty-three years ago)

He's not twee, he's a purple lump with issues.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 20:18 (twenty-three years ago)

Is liking Of Montreal enough to make me a tweeist? (For the record: I have no soft toys.)

o. nate (onate), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 20:38 (twenty-three years ago)

I never said that, it just one o the things that makes me suspicious of hello kitty. Sanrio = evil megacorp

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 12 November 2002 21:17 (twenty-three years ago)

four months pass...
Whoa Ed now you have crossed the line.

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 11:15 (twenty-two years ago)

I've slowly been de-tweeing myself. I no longer keep my money in a Sanrio wallet. I've cut down on the number of striped t-shirts I wear, though I still like the cardigan/t-shirt combo. My next release will consist entirely of Norwegian death-metal (ok, maybe not).

I still like most of the music associated with "twee," though I always considered Sarah to be overrated...

mike a (mike a), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 16:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd forgotten all about this thread and would just like to thank Tag for the phrase "Ubersteppenfuhrer Haines". Thanks, Tag.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 16:14 (twenty-two years ago)

mike, you and tag would HATE me. I don't look twee at all, but wherever I see a record fair I will take ages and ages and forever and ever amen tring to find a piece of Sarah that I don't have. I'm also in the process of trying to buy all of the current Shinkansen catalogue. If I was a girl I would wear my hair in a bob and carry a satchel.

SittingPretty (sittingpretty), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 16:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I brought a giant stuffed camel Humphrey with me when i went to study in paris, because i didn't want him to be lonely at home, with my parents.

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 16:29 (twenty-two years ago)

SP I don't think Tag would hate you. At least, not for that.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 16:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Or for anything else that I know of, obv.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 16:42 (twenty-two years ago)

oh tim! how was new york?

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 16:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Ruinous. And delightful.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 16:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I am the Wu Tang Twee Man.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 16:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Nickalicious, I think you'll find that's Phil-Two. Like, completely.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 16:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I am incapable of hate.

Tag (Tag), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 16:54 (twenty-two years ago)

That's what I thought. You're too twee to hate anything.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 16:55 (twenty-two years ago)

im a mad tweeist.

Chris V. (Chris V), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 16:58 (twenty-two years ago)

I have no hate for SittingPretty. Or Sarah completists, for that matter.

mike a (mike a), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 17:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Of course, my actual tweeness is off-set by that whole single-parent-of-toddler thing. Get rid of the kid and I'm a hardcore fucker. Okay, that's a lie.

nickalicious (nickalicious), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 17:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I do have a Shelflife Records badge on one of my jackets. Keepin' it real (real twee) in a low-key way.

mike a (mike a), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 17:03 (twenty-two years ago)

ooh damn, that is pretty twee. though not as twee as an upside-down belle & sebastian badge!

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 17:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Does an upside down belle and sebastian badge mean you're a Satanist?

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 17:07 (twenty-two years ago)

tw33 as phuck

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 17:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I started to think about that and have been consumed with loathing. There's twee and then there's Belle and Sebastian. I like the music but hate the fans.

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 17:09 (twenty-two years ago)

luckily you're allowed to hate the fans.

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 17:11 (twenty-two years ago)

no offence to S1n1st3r

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 17:11 (twenty-two years ago)

I try not to let the more annoying B&S fans get in the way of appreciating the music.

mike a (mike a), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 17:12 (twenty-two years ago)

These days I try not to let the dreadful music get in the way of my friendship with B&S fans.

Tim (Tim), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 17:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I mean I have several belle and sebastian records and have crashed my car twice to Belle and Sebastian (Dog on Wheel EP).

don't hurt me

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 17:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I have a sizeable collection of indie pop CD's, I like the Spanish stuff these days because I like not being able to understanding what they are singing about, it's like a rush of pure joy without the baggage of trite lyricism.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 17:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I should clarify. I don't hate the fans. Some of my best friends are etc. I just don't want to hear them obsess about Stuart Murdoch ANY MORE. And I dislike what absorbing his lyrics has done to some of their romantic notions.

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 17:17 (twenty-two years ago)

how's about obsessing over how CUTE stevie is?

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 17:21 (twenty-two years ago)

or is that worse? maybe it is.

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 17:21 (twenty-two years ago)

They all have bad skin and rickets!

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 17:22 (twenty-two years ago)

nothing a good mud mask couldn't take care of.

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 17:22 (twenty-two years ago)

"And I dislike what absorbing his lyrics has done to some of their romantic notions."

Can you elaborate, Lara? I really like Stuart Murdoch's lyrics, but don't go around getting doses of thrush from licking railways or anything. ;)

mike a (mike a), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 17:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I can but I don't want to.

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 17:25 (twenty-two years ago)

I guess I'm thinking, do B&S' lyrics encourage some of their fans to be willfully arch? Do they ride around on city buses, furiously scribbling in journals about crush objects they've almost deliberately relegated to "unrequited" status?

I mean, as much as I admire Stuart Murdoch as a lyricist, I've never felt that his words set out a healthy code to live by.

mike a (mike a), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 17:30 (twenty-two years ago)

(and yeah, I know I've just answered my own question)

mike a (mike a), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 17:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Yup. Some people are silly though - you just have to look at some of the 'relationship' threads...

Lara (Lara), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 17:34 (twenty-two years ago)

ahem, I only met Vicky because of S1n1st3R!

chris (chris), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 17:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I only ended up on ILX via Sinister. Yikes, come to think of it, my two ex-rommates were Sinister'ites too. But, I haven't dated one yet..

phil-two (phil-two), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 17:54 (twenty-two years ago)

i like belle and sebastian. and in another thread, rainy said that my e-mail address is "twee"! (to be fair, she did so after i indirectly said that she was twee)

Tad (llamasfur), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 17:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Heck, I've been told that my name is twee - "it sounds like the music you listen to" was the exact quote.

the Bowlie Forum is getting TWEE FUCKER badges made.

DV (dirtyvicar), Wednesday, 19 March 2003 18:49 (twenty-two years ago)

i still have a big piece of cardboard that says TWEE AS FLUFF hanging above my record player. a twee girl sent me a package and that was how she decorated it. i keep it there so nobody ever attempts to put any emo or hardcore LPs on the turntable.

i'm not that twee though... i like to argue. but i'll always argue for twee and never against it. indie-pop still hasn't lost its power to offend and seriously dismay the tuff kids here in texas. they expect you to back down and admit it sucks, then have fits when you tell them it's PUNK ROCK!

Big *bad* fire engine, actually.

You lucky devil. Actually, I don't think I ever heard them. They may be the future of music for all I know. Are they the future of music?

Tag (Tag), Thursday, 20 March 2003 10:34 (twenty-two years ago)

No. See the Fallacy & Fusion thread on LIM for that. Sorry that wasn't very twee. The future of music = the video for "My Suitor" which I saw the other day. They move! A bit!

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 20 March 2003 10:39 (twenty-two years ago)

whoops, ILM I mean. I don't know what LIM is.

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 20 March 2003 10:39 (twenty-two years ago)

You saw the video to "My suitor"? How? I am jealous.

Tag (Tag), Thursday, 20 March 2003 10:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Keith D had it on his computer in NYC (also an interview with Drita & the boys on tele Belgique). But "My Suitor" isn't twee either, obv., and I'll fight the man who says it is.

I know what LIM is now: http://www.lim.com/

Tim (Tim), Thursday, 20 March 2003 10:42 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll fight them too.

I need this video in my life.

I made a flower pot for my high school girlfriend and painted it pink and purple (I swear, I thought the colors would be deeper and less twee when they tried) and brought it to her house but her dad was there and he gave me a funny look when I handed it to him.

The reason I post the same pics repeatedly is that there aren't any other pictures of me online. Plus I'm an egoist, obviously.

If the previous pic wasn't twee enough, there's always these two:
