so i arrive in LA on like 28/29 may or something, not sure of exact date yet, but i am looking forward immensely. what will i find i wonder?

gareth (gareth), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 13:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Sunshine, movie stars, ned, arthur, Vic, chris, chaki, spencer, more movie stars...

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 13:38 (twenty-two years ago)

LA has it's share of HARD RAWK/METAL clubs, get a leather jacket - and the rock chicks will be yours Gareth.

DJ Martian (djmartian), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 13:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, leather jacket is urgent and key and also sunglasses. And when you are in Texas, a cowboy outfit. I got bored and drew a picture of what this would look like, and will scan it in and post it when I am at home.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 13:39 (twenty-two years ago)

A leather jacket and tight Bon Jovi-stylee stonewashed jeans. That sounds LA.

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 13:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Also hair-rock hairdo!!!

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 13:44 (twenty-two years ago)

don't forget the switchblade/comb.

Chris V. (Chris V), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 13:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, Gareth needs a poodle perm. He could look like Tico Torres.

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 13:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I inadvertantly drew a picture of this too! Not with Gareth in mind but it works. I captioned it "Infidel or DISCO?" which makes no sense but had me laughing to myself so hard last night that I had to excuse myself from class. I shall post all of these pictures as demonstrations of how Gareth should look whilst in America.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 13:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Ally and Nicole are scaring me -- and scarring me -- duly.

Major megaFAP on the 31st, but we'll figure out other things for ya that week, fret not.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 13:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Gareth in Leather Jacket = looking like a BRMC clone !

DJ Martian (djmartian), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 13:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Gareth: INFIDEL OR DISCO?? Are you frightened NOW, Ned?

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 13:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Gareth: Scientologist or YAFfer? would scare me more, and be perfectly appropriate for LA.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 13:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Major megaFAP on the 31st

My birthday! Have a Caipirinha for me!

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 13:56 (twenty-two years ago)

An LA FAP would be one I would really love to go to. Enjoy, Gareth!

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 13:56 (twenty-two years ago)

My dear Nordicskillz, when you come out here, we shall have both SF FAPs for you and LA FAPs for when you come and visit. And you WILL come and visit.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 14:01 (twenty-two years ago)

For serious? *blushes* shucks!

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 14:02 (twenty-two years ago)

If Gareth isn't passed out in the gutter in front of the Viper Room while wearing a leather jacket I will be VERY dissapointed!

Aaron W (Aaron W), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 14:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I have relatives in LA. My cousin is Cher's interior designer! (namedropping alert) He was on US Faking It.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 14:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Aaron, I don't know if we're going to treat him that well, but we shall see.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 14:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Gareth, is there any part of the USA you are not planning to visit sometime in the next six months?

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 14:17 (twenty-two years ago)

you will find our ILX crew welcoming you!!! silly question.

and lots of fake breasts.

Vic, Tuesday, 29 April 2003 14:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Gareth in L.A.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 14:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Have fun, gareth. Are you going in May? How will you get around? If you have a car I would make certain suggestions but if not then I would suggest others. You might like downtown. Venice and Pasadena are nice and decrepit.

If you go to Commerce you would find a poker hall.

I know you did not ask my advice but if you did I would say go with the "English" thing. LA is so eclectic it's impossible not to fit in.

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 15:33 (twenty-two years ago)

I think Spencer will drive Gareth around in his Williams chick magnet convertible.

Mary (Mary), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 15:37 (twenty-two years ago)

your jetset lifestyle is impressive gareth, BUT HOW LONG CAN IT LAST

Ronan (Ronan), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 15:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Until the omnipotent baby sings.

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 15:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Spencer, don't forget to take gareth to "our" gas station.

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 15:43 (twenty-two years ago)

So cryptic, to ask would surely be to spoil.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 16:02 (twenty-two years ago)

That was where they all lezzed up, obviously.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 16:52 (twenty-two years ago)

I've already volunteered to take Gareth on a proper scenic driving tour that will involve said mysterious gas station, Sunset, Santa Monica, The Kings Road Cafe (saw that Topher guy there from That 70s Show on Sunday), The Bradbury Building, The new Standard, and maybe even the "decrepit" areas of Pasadena and Venice.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 17:05 (twenty-two years ago)

No love for tinsel town, Spencer?

Vic, Tuesday, 29 April 2003 17:08 (twenty-two years ago)

That is tinsel town!

felicity (felicity), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 17:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Sunset and The Kings Road are both in Tinselton!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 17:52 (twenty-two years ago)

We should all have dinner at Bahooka in Rosemead. Hawaiian detritus! Nautical themes! Not too expensive!

Arthur (Arthur), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 20:37 (twenty-two years ago)

summer 03

Jody Beth Rosen (Jody Beth Rosen), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 20:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Nothing beats the Polynesian mayhem at Tiki Ti though - plus it's closer to Tinseltown.

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 20:50 (twenty-two years ago)

They don't serve food, though, do they? Can't remember. And they have the weirdest hours. I think they just open whenever they feel like it. But yes, let's go there, too.

Arthur (Arthur), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 20:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Gareth hovering over Los Angeles

http://www.base58.com/stuff/lagareth.jpg

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 21:02 (twenty-two years ago)

(finally i did something productive today...)

stevem (blueski), Tuesday, 29 April 2003 21:04 (twenty-two years ago)

That's fucking hysterical. Die Sonne ist Gareth! Ach!

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 00:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd like to remind the residents of Los Angeles to not fire their guns into the air as this may in fact anger Gareth.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 00:16 (twenty-two years ago)

also, that's actually Century City... which makes it even cooler since Gareth is terrifying a rather posh and fashionable neighborhood.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 00:43 (twenty-two years ago)

also, the tall building on the right is the "Nakatomi Tower" from Die Hard.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 00:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Who says he is terrifying them?

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 01:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Sorry, scaring the bejesus out of them?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 01:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe they like it.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 01:05 (twenty-two years ago)

But he's looking at them like they stole his egg mcmuffin!

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 01:07 (twenty-two years ago)

maybe you're right. here are some images from the ground:

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 01:09 (twenty-two years ago)

Not that it matters now that we've seen that picture, but this is Gareth dressed up like a cowboy in vest and hat and boots:

http://bitchcakes.topcities.com/images/cowboygareth.jpg

Yeah, I was real bored.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 01:26 (twenty-two years ago)

I kind of imagined it like this:
http://homepages.dsl.ca/~sean/dumbstuff/gareth.gif

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 01:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh.

My.

God.

Either I am easily amused or that is the greatest thing ever.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 01:32 (twenty-two years ago)

No offence Ally, but that looks more like Noel Gallagher.

Nicole (Nicole), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 01:40 (twenty-two years ago)

HAHA TS: Cowboy Noel v. Cowboy Gareth? It's true, the eyebrows are very Noel.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 01:41 (twenty-two years ago)

He looks kinda bored about the whole situation. "Yup, another cat destroys another town." Or maybe he's looking through the window of one of the taller buildings and watching the tv, totally unaware of the mass destruction taking place.

Chris P (Chris P), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 01:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I think maybe the cat's going to get him this time, like it's a video game! But WHO IS CONTROLLING GARETH??

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 05:04 (twenty-two years ago)

I am ;)

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 05:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Well done, he just misses Gareth's head every time. It must be tiring! Every time I check it out you're at it!

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 05:30 (twenty-two years ago)

animated .gareth

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 06:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Gareth needs laser eyes! Otherwise LA has had it.

jel -- (jel), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 06:51 (twenty-two years ago)

YAH MOTHER FUCKER ME AND GARETH ARE GOING TO PARTY LIKE ILXOR ROCKSTARS AND P DIDDY I JUST SAW THE MELVINS PLAY AT DISNEYLAND FORCHRISTS SAKE ME AND GARETH ARE GOING TO GET NUTZ FOOL!!!

chaki (chaki), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 07:51 (twenty-two years ago)

So was it a good show, then? ;-) Melvins were great when I saw them last year.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 07:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Chakitron & Garethor vs The Astonishing Plumpacat Eyes Of Laser Death is in production folks...

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 09:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Mary's post is the best on this thread, fools. Besides the Gareth/Cat Laser Show obviously

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 12:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh! Damn, the cat laser thing wasn't animated when I saw it the first time! This totally changes everything!

Chris P (Chris P), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 17:45 (twenty-two years ago)

gareth's head is attempting to defeat the cat via the gift of dance

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 17:47 (twenty-two years ago)

FEEL THE VOIBE!!!

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 17:49 (twenty-two years ago)

oi intend to.

Ronan (Ronan), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 20:51 (twenty-two years ago)

if only that picture could actually come true, maybe century city would be cooler!! (i'm referring to the first pic, obv, of gareth gloating his head over it...i wouldn't want him to get laser-eye-surgeried attacked by a giganticcat for the sake of coolifying CC)

Vic, Wednesday, 30 April 2003 21:07 (twenty-two years ago)

isn't Gareth tired, his head has been running around all day < /bad inverted cliche>

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 21:15 (twenty-two years ago)

in real life his head would have just poof-poofed and imploded into tiny asterisms by now, due to all the pollution smog

Vic (Vic), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 21:21 (twenty-two years ago)

Smog in L.A. was sooo 80s. We're all about Toyota Hybrids and non-smoking now.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 23:20 (twenty-two years ago)

OK, who's gonna pick up the Chaki?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 23:21 (twenty-two years ago)

marine layer is the new smog

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 23:21 (twenty-two years ago)

on-shore flow is LA's new mistress. (what the hell am I talking about?)

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 23:25 (twenty-two years ago)

ooh!

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 23:28 (twenty-two years ago)

i hope Sean uses Photoshop for a living and not just a hobby...on the other hand to create the beauty he has on this thread how can you have the time for a job at all?

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 23:28 (twenty-two years ago)

felicity why can't YOU visit la too - i would love a guided tour through your old hood/my new hood of hwood !

spencer i could pick him since i live closer to him, and he could be the navigator for me on the journey to silverlake that i will inevitably get lost on haha. chaki if you are reading this emil me *detailed* directions regarding how i am supposed to find you where, and i'll mail u back my cell digits.

Vic (Vic), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 23:38 (twenty-two years ago)

wait, are we talking about tommorrow, or the may 31st gareth fap ?

Vic (Vic), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 23:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm confused too.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 23:42 (twenty-two years ago)

fremme nappa venette

Vic (Vic), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 23:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I blame hstencil

Vic (Vic), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 23:44 (twenty-two years ago)

sorry i think i've been lost in old-insideilxjokeland for the past half hour. ::crawling out::

Vic (Vic), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 23:44 (twenty-two years ago)

i hope Sean uses Photoshop for a living and not just a hobby...on the other hand to create the beauty he has on this thread how can you have the time for a job at all?
Oddly, Photoshop is just something I do for fun. To be honest, it's not even Photoshop, it's Jasc's Paint Shop Pro. I often wonder if I would enjoy it at all if I actually did that for money; I can afford to be sloppy now, and let the fun accidental stuff happen as it will. FWIW, the original stevem picture still rulez the thread. =)

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 23:45 (twenty-two years ago)

nah i think you just blew me out of the water...funnily enough i was going to post the original pic with lasers coming out of gareth's eyes and setting the trees below on fire...but i just dont have that kind of free time right now (it wouldve taken me maybe an hour or two, heh heh) - honest...

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 23:49 (twenty-two years ago)

excuse the backslappery

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 30 April 2003 23:50 (twenty-two years ago)

if u guys could combine your sick skillz and make a mad montage or something including sean's work on the beefcake thread with the work done here, every future sin would be pardoned and forgiven, for the rest of ilx's life

Vic (Vic), Thursday, 1 May 2003 00:19 (twenty-two years ago)

I still want to do a picture where the cat shoots lasers at Momus, but the thought chills me. Chills me to the bone.

Sean Carruthers (SeanC), Thursday, 1 May 2003 00:29 (twenty-two years ago)

u have to make the ned-faced-purple-plastic-pail-tittied-person wave its arms and help dodge the cat's attempts to laser-eye fire at Momus' member!! theend result will look much better than the written description, trust me!

Vic (Vic), Thursday, 1 May 2003 00:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Gareth have an excellent time!

Aaron Grossman (aajjgg), Thursday, 1 May 2003 01:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Vic, I would love to visit LA but the tour might be:

10 a.m. Kim's Nails
12 p.m. Santee Alley/flower market
3 p.m. French crepe stand at Fairfax Farmer's Market
6 p.m. Laurel Canyon dog park
8 p.m. Random show at Troubadour/Whiskey/Roxy
11 p.m. Virgin megastore
12 p.m. Centerfold newsstand
1 a.m. Swingers on Beverly

if that interests you.

323 FOR LIFE

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 1 May 2003 18:01 (twenty-two years ago)

dude, when you're finished at Virgin, call my cell 'cuz I think I'll be at Bar Marmont.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 1 May 2003 18:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Ok because they kick us out of the parking structure at like 12:30

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 1 May 2003 18:21 (twenty-two years ago)

actually, with Virgin validation you can park there til 1:30! I've made numerous tipsy late night purchases - the best of which is LowRider:Japan magazine!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 1 May 2003 18:25 (twenty-two years ago)

AS LONG AS IT IS NOT TEASZER PARKING!!

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 1 May 2003 18:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I forgot to add:

4 a.m. Jack in the Box drive thru

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 1 May 2003 18:30 (twenty-two years ago)

The doordragqueen at Bar Marmont is from my hometown. He always forgets who I am, even though I've given him several thousand dollars worth of free drinks over the years. Then he remembers and won't shut up about it. And then he gives me all the latest Jayne County news. It's wild!

I've never been to Santee Alley, can you believe it? But I love that crepe stand. And have you ever been to the Virgin Megastore/Laemmle/Crush complex and NOT seen a celebrity? I haven't.

Arthur (Arthur), Thursday, 1 May 2003 19:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Jeez, you scenesters you.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 1 May 2003 19:11 (twenty-two years ago)

No, Arthur, I really haven't. Don't forget Crunch and Buzz! Fab1o worked out at my Crunch, and PhantomPlanet/JasonSchwartzm@n/PHilips3ymourH0ffman/Elijah-LukeW0od were constantly in my way at the Laemmle. You can see anyone at Virgin.

Oh you have to go to Santee Alley before it gets too hot!

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 1 May 2003 19:16 (twenty-two years ago)

And how could I forget Fred Segal on Melrose? tsk.

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 1 May 2003 19:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, I have seen Super Furry Animals at the Virgin Megastore there, but then again they were playing there at the time.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 1 May 2003 19:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Mind your step -- please don't trip over the Elliott Smith/Courtney Love/Macy Gray

I think LA will absolutely love gareth. He will be LA's sun and air. The new restaurant on La Cienega will be called "gareth." Brown will be the new orange/lime green/white/whatever.

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 1 May 2003 19:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm already working on a treatment for a new cop show starring Gareth, and I'm pretty sure that Laura Prepon was talking about him at the King's Road the other morning.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 1 May 2003 19:54 (twenty-two years ago)

oh, yeah, I read that in the Daily -- Lion's Gate Television BeNeLux has a LOT of interest in off-cable

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 1 May 2003 19:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I am deeply disappointed that no one has picked up on the fact that Spencer posted a picture ADRIC. Talk aobut your prime Photoshop candidates!

(This may only be amusing to Doctor Who geeks.)

Dan Perry (Dan Perry), Thursday, 1 May 2003 19:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Title ideas? I think his name should be Gareth Rampart and we'll call it 'Rampart's Division'.

Dan, that picture came up using google image search with "point" "sky". Or maybe it was "gareth" "disembodied" "head" "ginormous" "century city" "reaction"

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 1 May 2003 20:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Uh, I just realized that Gareth has not posted to this thread at all since asking the question!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 1 May 2003 21:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Crush=Crunch. Dur. And there's Wolfgang Puck's Cafe Celebrity, too!

Arthur (Arthur), Thursday, 1 May 2003 22:52 (twenty-two years ago)

This'll be Gareth "Die Partymacher" Rampart's off-duty/undercover look: High Desert Circuit Chic!

323 FOR LIFE

YES 323 R0x0rs!! When i lived in 213 I was such a poseur and hungry for 323 that I got my cell phone # as 323 since i couldn't change my home phone to it, or maybe this has to do with me knowing i was moving out of the ghetto soon and i wanted to correlate my future house number's code to my cell. Of course since I'm jobless i'm probably moving back in june when my lease runs out since i cannot afford the 323 lifestyle!!! have u heard theres going to be A NEW area code called 424, for the south bay?

F-icity, this would be an ideal tour, since I don't know where kim's nails or santee alley even are. Which newstand is centerfold? the one between sunset and hollywood? could we skip that and go to that uber-hipster trendy franklin hang-out strip thats around the corner from me instead, of la poubelle/birds/bourgeoisie (i misspelled that) pig, since ive never been there yet but its so close?? i dont think i own anything hip enough to wear to enter there, maybe thats what prevents me. i HATE newsieboycaps, because they remind me of someone, and im not just talking about the despicably cheery people in the mishubishi commercial. i sometimes just park in that strip mall that has mcdonalds across the street from the virgin megastore because im really bad about things like, um, validation.

i havent seen any celebs there, though. oh well actually my friend saw kristie alley's entire oxygen-inhaling entourage in the elevator there in 1999, but i think i was in the bathroom at the time.

i have a friend who was once friends with elijah!! actually he's been friends with TWO DIFFERENT HOBBITS, but i don't know if that was simultaneously or not! still, thats an achievement!!

why cant u come fap here too? come w/ gareth!!

Vic (Vic), Thursday, 1 May 2003 23:00 (twenty-two years ago)

All you skirts know what's up with 323.

Also Arthur, I've seen that dragqueen doorperson - he's bald right? He looks me up and down but I'm never quite sure of the judgement.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 1 May 2003 23:14 (twenty-two years ago)

818 sux0rz!

chaki (chaki), Thursday, 1 May 2003 23:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, Spencer. He's the one in Christina Aguliera's "Beautiful" video. His name is Robert, but he goes by Constance. He looks a little intimidating, but he's actually very nice.

Arthur (Arthur), Friday, 2 May 2003 00:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, I've never been held up at the door, so...

Actually, there's never a huge line for that place which is why I like it so much. Middle of the strip, gorgeous interior, lovely people, terrific martinis with little plastic monkeys. I highly recommend it for all visiting ilXors.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 2 May 2003 01:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Gareth, did you ever get around to reading *your* thread?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 20:29 (twenty-two years ago)

that is expecting a lot isn't it spencer?

Mary (Mary), Wednesday, 7 May 2003 20:42 (twenty-two years ago)

if i was to arrive on tuesday 27th, are there people around that early in the week. and, like, who has a car, and all that stuff?

gareth (gareth), Friday, 9 May 2003 08:49 (twenty-two years ago)

ah there he is!

Mary (Mary), Friday, 9 May 2003 16:32 (twenty-two years ago)

chaki is around that early in the week. no he doesnt have a car.

chaki (chaki), Friday, 9 May 2003 16:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm around to hang out at night, but I can't do a proper driving tour until Saturday...

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 9 May 2003 17:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Normally I have loads of time off, but I'm starting a 6-week teacher orientation thing tomorrow, so unfortunately I won't be available during the day either. But I do have a car.

Arthur (Arthur), Sunday, 11 May 2003 21:17 (twenty-two years ago)

revive!

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 15 May 2003 13:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Well FINALLY. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 15 May 2003 14:34 (twenty-two years ago)

details?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 15 May 2003 16:37 (twenty-two years ago)

He's coming to your house, Spencer, to sleep on your couch. Whenever he can, not like any specific date, it's the winds what takes him. He'll be staying for 4 months. Is that all ok?

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 15 May 2003 16:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Who, Momus?

chester (synkro), Thursday, 15 May 2003 16:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually, I did offer him the use of the couch. But if he wants to stay he's gonna have to follow MY RULES! No more drugs, no more sluts, and back to school. ARE WE CLEAR?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 16 May 2003 00:16 (twenty-two years ago)

You've been listening to "What Gives My Son?" by Ned's Atomic Dustbin far too much. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 16 May 2003 00:56 (twenty-two years ago)

so, where is best place to stay?

i got mixed up about who had offered to let me stay, and now i'm embarrassed to ask again, except i've just asked, hehe.

if not, which is the best hostel?

gareth (gareth), Friday, 16 May 2003 11:29 (twenty-two years ago)

sleep on the beach in front of David Geffen's house, he'll invite you in ;-)

Ed (dali), Friday, 16 May 2003 11:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Hahahaha!

Gareth, I stayed on the famous hostel right on Venice Beach. They serve cheap margaritas 24 hours a day. It might be your kind of place.

That is, if you don't mind waking up to the sound of chainsaws.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 16 May 2003 11:45 (twenty-two years ago)

why does everyone think that i am all drinking and partying 24 hours a day all of a sudden???? it really is not the case!

gareth (gareth), Friday, 16 May 2003 12:11 (twenty-two years ago)

There was Spencer's comment about sluts n narcotics... ;)

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 16 May 2003 12:12 (twenty-two years ago)

You know you love it, really.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 16 May 2003 12:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Seriously though, I enjoyed staying there. You can get your own room for pretty cheap.

Nordicskillz (Nordicskillz), Friday, 16 May 2003 12:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Gareth, we still need details on when you'll be here....

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 16 May 2003 18:45 (twenty-two years ago)

it is just booked!

arrive:
19:53 Tuesday 27th May

depart:
21:40 Sunday 1st June

gareth (gareth), Friday, 16 May 2003 18:47 (twenty-two years ago)

So Spencer, you'll take him from the airport and pickle him in tequila first off, yes?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 16 May 2003 18:48 (twenty-two years ago)

but I don't arrive until March, 1973!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 16 May 2003 18:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Damn you, sir!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 16 May 2003 18:58 (twenty-two years ago)

wow that's a lot of l.a. time!

Mary (Mary), Friday, 16 May 2003 19:12 (twenty-two years ago)

gareth stay with spencer i would (if i was ever so lucky as to be invited)

Mary (Mary), Saturday, 17 May 2003 17:18 (twenty-two years ago)

*re reads thread and spies mention of COUCH*...... :)

gareth (gareth), Monday, 19 May 2003 08:30 (twenty-two years ago)

why does everyone think that i am all drinking and partying 24 hours a day all of a sudden???

oh no! they are going to see the real gareth!

Mary (Mary), Monday, 19 May 2003 17:15 (twenty-two years ago)

You realize, of course, that the Garethhead will arrive in L.A. and remain a staple of wacky bodyless entertainment on Venice Beach for the rest of his years, side by side with the Jimi riffin' rollerbladin' Kozmic Kruzader.

donut bitch (donut), Monday, 19 May 2003 18:13 (twenty-two years ago)

HArry Parri! Gareth WHAT ARE WE GUNA DO when you're here?! i know of a partyt on the 31set and the person throwing it told me to bring all my ilx friends.

chaki (chaki), Monday, 19 May 2003 18:24 (twenty-two years ago)

That could yet be fun and frightening. Can Gareth handle the CHAKI AND FRIENDS LOVE?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 19 May 2003 18:30 (twenty-two years ago)

Gareth, contact me directly.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 20 May 2003 00:46 (twenty-two years ago)

http://www.venicebeachcotel.com

or what about this?

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 22 May 2003 13:23 (twenty-two years ago)

I will defer to the real Angelenos but that part of Venice is good if you are looking for Australian backpackers and Venice hippies. The Santa Monica one is right by the giant mall and 3rd Street Promenade. I would prefer the S. Monica one of the two because I think you can get the S. Monica Blvd. bus to West Hollywood and downtown but you know me, I would stay in 323, Hollywood/W. Hollywood and all that. It doesn't much matter if you are going to have wheels but they will both probably be hella noisy b/c of the beach.

Are you a beach person gareth?

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 22 May 2003 14:43 (twenty-two years ago)

no, not really!

the guide book just said the santa monica one was a good place to stay, any other reccomendations?

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 22 May 2003 15:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I have never stayed there but this looks nice:

http://www.flamingohostel.com/map.htm

In Hollywood, you can walk to Amoeba, etc. and near Vic, I think, and you can take the Metro to downtown LA. Yes, LA has a subway, no joke.

felicity (felicity), Thursday, 22 May 2003 15:16 (twenty-two years ago)

When in Los Angeles, I like to stay at the at the Chateau Marmont: http://www.chateaumarmont.com/flat.html

(I am never in Los Angeles.)

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 22 May 2003 15:35 (twenty-two years ago)

As long as the thread is revived -- general idea for next Friday night: we all meet up in Norwalk (Chris B, maybe Stripey and I from OC, everyone else from LA, we split the difference thus) for that amazing Thai restaurant Chris discovered some weeks back. It's cheap, it's wonderful, it's worth it. Then from there a retreat to LA for interested parties...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 22 May 2003 15:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I am very much not a "beach person," but I really like strolling Santa Monica and Venice (Abbott Kinney!).

When in Los Angeles, I like to stay at the at the Chateau Marmont

I'll refrain from posting it next door, but LOL.

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 22 May 2003 15:47 (twenty-two years ago)

gareth,

the question facing you (and many other LA transplants, however temporary) is:

westside vs. eastside?

personally, even though I attended classes on the westside, I found the eastside much more to my liking and lifestyle. the westside offered better cinema (nuart/nuwilshire), and better *ahem* radio, the eastside may be more to your liking (?).

granted i haven't lived there since 1996, but in short: felicity ~OTM (give me east hollywood over west).

gygax! (gygax!), Thursday, 22 May 2003 15:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Remember though, he's not going to *live* here. Gareth, you should split the time during the week between these two places, and then my place at the weekend and you'll be set. You should start at the Santa Monica one, because well, the ocean is beautiful. Then, switch to the Hollywood one for some glitz and grit.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 22 May 2003 16:21 (twenty-two years ago)

i think it is going to come down to which one has room, ive requested rooms in both so i'll find out what there is tomorrow!

gareth (gareth), Thursday, 22 May 2003 16:33 (twenty-two years ago)

either location is fine. did you contact Arthur?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 22 May 2003 16:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Gareth--this teacher training thing I'm doing is not far from LAX, do you need a ride? I'm at an Internet Cafe right now and my time is about up but I'll try and e-mail you from home this weekend. I'm not so available during the week--well, not at all during the day, like I said--but I can at least give you a ride from the airport.

Arthur (Arthur), Saturday, 24 May 2003 18:37 (twenty-two years ago)

(He's in Texas now but hopefully will checking in soon.) (Hi Arthur!)

Mary (Mary), Saturday, 24 May 2003 18:49 (twenty-two years ago)

i think im going to be ok for lift from airport, hostel has special service from airport direct to hostel. but i'll be out and about from wednesday onwards...

gareth (in austin tx) (thatgirl), Sunday, 25 May 2003 00:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Neudonym might want to join this party too. I get in tomorrow night (Wednesday night) and I leave Monday, so whenever whatever, as long as it's at night and I'm not too exhausted and I can get there and all that. I'm staying at the Miyako downtown: 213 617 2000, under my civilian name: Matt Cibula. But I won't have access to computers, so either someone has to call me or else, well, or else I'll just watch hotel TV all week/end. Cool.

Neudonym, Wednesday, 28 May 2003 04:05 (twenty-two years ago)

i am in town. i landed a couple hours ago. i am staying in santa monica. i'll check everything tomorrow morning. if anyone fancies a beer tomorrow night give me a call, i'll email my number out to everyone in the morning.

yea, i'll give you a call matt, we'll see what happens anyway

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 04:09 (twenty-two years ago)

tomorrow night lets do this

chaki (chaki), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 04:13 (twenty-two years ago)

I have a shitload of stuff to do tomorrow night, but I'll try to do this, cause otherwise I'll miss everthing except the Odyssey on Sunday - if I do miss it, though, I expect the usual phone call, this time with Gareth.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 04:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Whoever gets together tomorrow: have fun! I won't be able to do anything until Friday. Matt, I'll keep you in the loop via the phone as needed. I still say we should try the Thai place for Friday and Chaki's party on Saturday night, along with the grand sendoff for Gareth on Sunday at Odyssey. Is there anything else we want to consider for the weekend beyond that or should we intentionally hold it open? I heard from my cousin George that I'm okay to stay up at his place through the weekend as needed...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 04:32 (twenty-two years ago)

can someone like make some kind of initial suggestion for tomorrow?

whats this odyssey stuff, i dont think im going to be able to make that you know. i mean, my flight is 940, but i have to get there, what, 2 hours before minimum?

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 04:39 (twenty-two years ago)

yah whats odyssesy stuff?

suggestion for tomorrow night: Ill be at Zen Sushi on Hyperion and Sunset with a some people. I am able to get everyone in for free and im willing to buy a round for ilxors. Its a swanky sushi bar with a plush lounge upstairs that has really crap bands on wed. usually young rock en espanol bands.

chaki (chaki), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 04:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Ok if Ned's not going, do one of the rest of y'all have my cell number? I mean it, I want this call.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 04:51 (twenty-two years ago)

I like the Zen Sushi idea. I get off work at like 7 tomorrow, and then I can pick you up, Gareth... you have my digits, yes?

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 04:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha! Fret not, Gareth -- Odyssey is AT LAX itself! :-) Although I must correct myself, I think it's actually called Encounter...hold on here...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 04:53 (twenty-two years ago)

Also, yeah, the Odyssey sounds like it might not work if Gareth has to leave at 9:40 - unless he's flying out of Burbank!

(and yes Luna, we'll get your # from Ned and blow up your celly all proper like as per usual!)

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 04:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, sorry about that -- Encounter, in the Theme Building. It's right there at LAX, so really all we'd have to do is check Gareth in and then we can drink and feast. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 04:55 (twenty-two years ago)

I might even answer this time!

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 04:56 (twenty-two years ago)

HA! Encounters it is! I thought you guys were talking about the Odyssey in Burbank this whole time and I thought you were all out of your minds!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 04:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Yay mindlessness! Nah, just my brain seizing up. ;-) Spencer, e-mail me and I'll pass on Luna's cell number.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 04:57 (twenty-two years ago)

i thought you guys were talking about the Odyssey in calabasas where i had my senior prom

chaki (chaki), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 04:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Now THAT's where we should go!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 04:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Amazing! ;-) But yeah, Encounter, definitely, especially if we get a great sunset. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 05:00 (twenty-two years ago)

oh. i wanna come. but i'm too shy. hence i lurk on chat boards. it's pretty expensive there though (encounter). THEE place to see celebs (albeit non uber-trendy ones) is gelsons market in encino. the trendy ones lives in the hollywood/silverlake hills so if that's what you're looking for try a mayfair market.

lolita corpus (lolitacorpus), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 06:12 (twenty-two years ago)

hmmm...

does darren rademaker still have a DJ night on wednesdays? that might be entertaining for gareth. last time i saw darren DJ he was spinning with alan mcgee and tim burgess at the KF.

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 06:20 (twenty-two years ago)

chaki (chaki), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 06:29 (twenty-two years ago)

chaki (chaki), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 06:31 (twenty-two years ago)

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 06:33 (twenty-two years ago)

chaki (chaki), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 06:50 (twenty-two years ago)

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 06:54 (twenty-two years ago)

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 15:20 (twenty-two years ago)

So how's your morning so far?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 15:22 (twenty-two years ago)

That Girl (thatgirl), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 17:50 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm sure you could get a charger (converter right?) on 3rd Street.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 18:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Which tonight are we talking about now? Wednesday or Thursday?

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 20:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I think they're talking about tonight. Spencer, you still need Luna's phone number?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 22:03 (twenty-two years ago)

ok ill be at zen around 10. ill need to talk to the guy to get everyone in for free upstairs. should be no problem. ill be at the alter-knit lounge watching neil hamburger before. a number you can reach me at is 805-279-5247 just ask for chaki.

chaki (chaki), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 22:35 (twenty-two years ago)

805

gygax! (gygax!), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 22:46 (twenty-two years ago)

Gareth said he's calling me around 5, I'll pick him up after 7 and get him to the plaice.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 22:59 (twenty-two years ago)

i just got back to the hostel now spencer, the hostel is on 2nd st in santa monica, the big HI by the hostel, do you know it? i'll finish up on here, have a shower and give you a call...

gareth (gareth), Wednesday, 28 May 2003 23:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Mary (Mary), Thursday, 29 May 2003 17:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Are those the individual names of his cowboy boots?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 29 May 2003 17:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I think they are his surfer babes, Ned.

That Girl (thatgirl), Thursday, 29 May 2003 17:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Only the two?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 29 May 2003 17:46 (twenty-two years ago)

You can't expect the man to remeber *all* their names!

That Girl (thatgirl), Thursday, 29 May 2003 17:48 (twenty-two years ago)

He has to hover over the cities just to keep tabs on all of his women.

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 29 May 2003 17:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Astounding!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 29 May 2003 17:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Gareth: he's got hos in different area codes.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 29 May 2003 18:38 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually, with reference to his travel blog, I'd say he's got prose in different area codes.

thank you, good night.

chris b, spencer chow and gareth are amazing people. i really mean this.

chaki (chaki), Friday, 30 May 2003 00:34 (twenty-two years ago)

is anything happening tomorrow night? i forgot

gareth (gareth), Friday, 30 May 2003 01:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes! Thai dinner at the legendary Renu Nakorn in Norwalk. Best bet is to get someone to drive you down to it, it's just off the 5 freeway. Shall we set a dinner of time at 7 pm to allow the rush hour crush to vaguely subside? (Chris B. to thread with directions, further thoughts.)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 30 May 2003 01:54 (twenty-two years ago)

mmmm thai food...
that is all...

Carey (Carey), Friday, 30 May 2003 02:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Renu Nakorn is on the north side of Rosecrans Bl couple blocks east of the 5 freeway. Look for the enigmatic "Fire Walk With Me" neon sign.

OK, cell phone is working again now - call me if you need explanations.

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Friday, 30 May 2003 02:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Gareth - do you have a ride tomorrow?

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Friday, 30 May 2003 02:03 (twenty-two years ago)

I'd push the time back to 7:30 myself

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Friday, 30 May 2003 02:03 (twenty-two years ago)

7:30 it is. It can't hurt, certainly...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 30 May 2003 02:32 (twenty-two years ago)

no i have no ride, what time do i need to be back at the hostel for?

gulliver raindrops mandixie for postiniello, Friday, 30 May 2003 02:54 (twenty-two years ago)

i have my numbers with me i think, so i'll take them out tomorrow. also, i left the cd in spencers car, remind me not to lose that

general winstox IV, Friday, 30 May 2003 02:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Just talked with Spencer, Gareth, and it sounds like you should be able to get a ride with him -- give him a call tonight if you can, if not just give him a buzz sometime tomorrow afternoon.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 30 May 2003 03:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh yes, related to that...I'd say aim to be back at the hostel by 6:00 to 6:15 pm, but check with Spencer for more info. I think he said he gets off work at 6:30 and can drive over to the hostel from there.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 30 May 2003 03:14 (twenty-two years ago)

ok i call tomorrow, but first i face room full of aussies again. wotcha!

Gareth, I'll try to pick you up at 6:45!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 30 May 2003 21:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Friday, 30 May 2003 23:19 (twenty-two years ago)

That Girl (thatgirl), Saturday, 31 May 2003 02:59 (twenty-two years ago)

I came home from my class and took a nap. Till 2 am. I'm a schmuck.

Arthur (Arthur), Saturday, 31 May 2003 14:22 (twenty-two years ago)

No worries, Arthur -- what's your schedule like for tonight? I'll try and give you a call sometime this afternoon!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 31 May 2003 14:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Nothing planned, just fake lesson planning and such. Yes, give me a call!

Arthur (Arthur), Saturday, 31 May 2003 14:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Left you a message on your phone, will call you again later this evening. Try and be free after 6 pm!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 31 May 2003 20:38 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm beginning to get annoyed with santa monica, its like i am in a whitebread groundhog day, and i can take no more australians. why am i at the beach? aargh

I loved this, this is hilarious.

Nicole (Nicole), Sunday, 1 June 2003 14:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Back from Encounter, a grand couple of days, Gareth's flight should have just taken off. Wonderful time all around!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 2 June 2003 02:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Stories, pls.

felicity (felicity), Monday, 2 June 2003 05:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm sorry I missed y'all - I ended up driving back from San Francisco with my friend and we didn't get in until nearly 10. It's gonna have to be NY.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 2 June 2003 05:24 (twenty-two years ago)

It was a real pleasure to show Gareth around. Also, thank you for saving our city from that laser-cat thing! And don't forget, there will be a quiz: "When not bustin' the gleamin' deuce-twos, can an Escalade EXT driver truly be considered a player?"

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Monday, 2 June 2003 06:46 (twenty-two years ago)

sounds like it was fun.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 14:22 (twenty-two years ago)

I pretty much guarantee that I'll take the worst possible pictures of everyone

Chris Barrus (Chris Barrus), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 15:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Gareth looks like he's telling a story about a villan.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 15:25 (twenty-two years ago)

At least it wasn't a story about a Villanche.

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 15:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Bruce?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 15:29 (twenty-two years ago)

I never knew that gareth had such tiny feet.

Tracer Hand (tracerhand), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 15:32 (twenty-two years ago)

gareth in non brown outfit shock

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 15:38 (twenty-two years ago)

He wasn't even hovering, in that respect it was disappointing.

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 15:39 (twenty-two years ago)

gareth looks like he's dressed as a bee

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 15:46 (twenty-two years ago)

What kind of demon blue bees do you people have in England?

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 15:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I don't think I saw Gareth wear brown at all. You all lie like kites.

That Girl (thatgirl), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 15:48 (twenty-two years ago)

hey gareth, did you already pass through tucson?

Justyn Dillingham (Justyn Dillingham), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 15:52 (twenty-two years ago)

ally you can tell by viewing the picture above

mark s (mark s), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 16:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Man, I wish our bees resembled yours.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 16:14 (twenty-two years ago)

I have great pics from the Coronet Bar! I'll try to upload them tonight or tomorrow.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 16:32 (twenty-two years ago)

yes if bees looked like thin, British boys then perhaps I would not fear them.

That Girl (thatgirl), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 16:36 (twenty-two years ago)

also a brief list of attractions I visited with Gareth:

El Coyote
Zen Sushi (mostly the smoking area) w/Chaki
Renu Nakorn (Thai restaurant in Norwalk - I had actually never set my foot down in Norwalk)
Virgin Megastore on Sunset
Casa Escobar in Santa Monica
Swingers in Santa Monica
My pad
King's Road Cafe
Zuma Beach
that Malibu Park on PCH
Venice
Bradbury building
Bonaventure lobby
Los Angeles Union Station
Amoeba records (Gareth blew $1.99 there, Ned may have spent a bit more)
Farmer's Market
Coronet Bar (next to the Coronet theater - I highly recommend this place)
Canter's
Museum of Jurassic Technology
Cafe Brazil on Venice Blvd
Rhino Records
Encounters at LAX

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 16:43 (twenty-two years ago)

I've been to zen sushi

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 16:56 (twenty-two years ago)

I heard that those type of bees really fancied American girls, actually.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 16:57 (twenty-two years ago)

american girlfriends are so over ;-p

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 16:59 (twenty-two years ago)

those yellow sneakers are really great!

g--ff c-nn-n (gcannon), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 17:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Spencer has a story about those yellow sneakers.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 17:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Ed, are you hitting on me?

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 17:56 (twenty-two years ago)

haha "Ned may have spent a bit more"

M Matos (M Matos), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 17:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Talk about your understatements...

Nicole (Nicole), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 18:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, you know, I like to do my part for the local economy.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 18:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned spent $8,000 that day, fact.

Ally (mlescaut), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 18:03 (twenty-two years ago)

See, if you GAVE me that amount, I would indeed be able to spend it all at Amoeba very easily.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 18:03 (twenty-two years ago)

you like my p tongue?

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 18:06 (twenty-two years ago)

The idea that Ed has a p tongue calls up some extremely suggestive imagery (I refer you to Prince's "P Control").

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 18:08 (twenty-two years ago)

also a brief list of attractions I visited with Gareth:

Spencer, have you considered running for mayor of L.A.? Seriously, you can single handedly persuade even the most uptight NYC art rock stalwart that L.A. is the best place on earth.

Actually, you and Arthur should double up for the campaign!

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 18:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Chris B. should run for county sheriff.

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 18:08 (twenty-two years ago)

(although apparently Gareth's visit coincided with the postponement of ATP, and the alleged shutdown of Spaceland.. :( )

donut bitch (donut), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 18:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Places Gareth visited the next day with Ned and I:
**Griddles Cafe on Sunset and Fairfax. Big food!
**Mulholland Drive (couldn't find the Chemosphere house, so we just stopped at the scenic overlook by the Hollywood Bowl)
**Whitley Heights (searching for the nifty apartment complex in The Long Goodbye where Kurt and Courtney lived once, I think.)
**Frank Lloyd Wright's Ennis-Brown House (the Blade Runner house), where we were nearly torn to bits by a nasty dog! Then Gareth did the spooky eye thing and he calmed right down.
**My filthy apartment in funky butt chic Highland Park
**The Gamble House in Pasadena

Spencer, don't post a picture of me from the Coronet, I'm sure I look awful. I haven't taken a good picture in 5 years. The Coronet really was fun, though!

Arthur (Arthur), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 21:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I'll just photoshop in Ned's face over yours.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 21:35 (twenty-two years ago)

I would list the places Gareth visited whilst in Texas but they are mostly bars, restaurants and places where people where famously murdered. In that order.

That Girl (thatgirl), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 21:38 (twenty-two years ago)

actually, that's pretty much where we took him. For example, Sharon Tate ate her last meal at El Coyote.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Tuesday, 3 June 2003 21:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, I forgot to take him to a celebrity graveyard! Damn.

Spencer, can you photoshop Burl Ives or Bruce Vilanch over my face? It'd make my day.

Arthur (Arthur), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 02:05 (twenty-two years ago)

be careful what you wish for:

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 20:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Spencer you suave sexy man.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 20:59 (twenty-two years ago)

its Donnie Darko!

stevem (blueski), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 21:03 (twenty-two years ago)

uh, It's Burl Ives!!!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 21:03 (twenty-two years ago)

more!

http://www.rotovibe.com/images/gareth/beach_blanket_gareth.jpg

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 21:53 (twenty-two years ago)

the infamous gas station!

http://www.rotovibe.com/images/gareth/unn76_gs_stn.jpg

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 21:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Gareth goes to the beach fully dressed--this is interesting to know.

That picture with Burl Ives is totally hot.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 21:58 (twenty-two years ago)

thanks! I know you're talking about the mad photoshop skillz!

Also, I think that is Gareth's westernmost point ever (on the beach)!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 22:01 (twenty-two years ago)

In the above photo Gareth is thinking, "Sand never comes out!"

That Girl (thatgirl), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 22:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Photoshop totally makes me horny.

Ally (mlescaut), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 22:04 (twenty-two years ago)

Great photos, Spencer! Aw, how nice to see the famous 76 (It is a 76, isn't it?)

felicity (felicity), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 22:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Ally, that makes two of us. I'll get to work on your bear plug-in right away.

And yes Felicity, that's the 76 where your 'incident' took place.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 23:01 (twenty-two years ago)

haha bear plug-in.

teeny (teeny), Wednesday, 4 June 2003 23:02 (twenty-two years ago)

Spencer, that photo is more perfect than I could have ever imagined! Thank you!

Arthur (Arthur), Thursday, 5 June 2003 00:09 (twenty-two years ago)

it's kind of freaking me out now.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 5 June 2003 00:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I expect to meet Burl Ives when I go to LA now, I say as if I'm ever actually going to go to the west coast ever again.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 5 June 2003 00:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually, we were talking about how to lure everyone to an LA maxiFAP; I suggested we all chip in and buy you a plane ticket.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 5 June 2003 00:41 (twenty-two years ago)

STFU, you totally made that up just now!

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 5 June 2003 00:43 (twenty-two years ago)

nuh-uh, it's true! We were totally plotting.

here's another one with the West Hollywood-Adjacent Krew:

http://www.rotovibe.com/images/gareth/dudes.jpg

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 5 June 2003 00:48 (twenty-two years ago)

I just noticed it looks like Arthur, I mean Burl, is gonna hurl back there!

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 5 June 2003 00:50 (twenty-two years ago)

Spencer looks like a Sheen there.

That Girl (thatgirl), Thursday, 5 June 2003 00:55 (twenty-two years ago)

NED'S SHIRT IS TRANSFIXING ME!

You guys were totally NOT plotting, you big liar, but now I'm totally intrigued. I'm like the world's easiest person to convince, I really need to curb my mania, jesus.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 5 June 2003 00:58 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow, I don't look so bad. I should pretend to hurl every time I get my picture taken. I prefer the Burl photo, though.

Ally, if you come out for the LA Maxifap I will grow an off-white goatee just for you.

Barfur (Arthur), Thursday, 5 June 2003 01:13 (twenty-two years ago)

NED'S SHIRT IS TRANSFIXING ME!

Good, good. It worked as planned. Ask me nice and I'll say what it is, otherwise the mystery will remain. Come to LA, come to LA...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 5 June 2003 01:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Why are we calling this a Maxifap, again? This sounds filthy, I like it. I'm in, do you reckon it'll cost less than $50? I think that's all I have right now.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 5 June 2003 01:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Direct flight from a NYC airport to an LA one, $50, hrm. Check on priceline, I guess.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 5 June 2003 01:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh, like William Shatner's going to help me. Fuck him.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 5 June 2003 01:38 (twenty-two years ago)

But as long as we have your attention, Ally, you really need to read this thread and check the link. Yup.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 5 June 2003 01:39 (twenty-two years ago)

ATA has $300 nonstop RT from LGA to LA (not sure if it's LAX though)

gabbneb (gabbneb), Thursday, 5 June 2003 01:41 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned, frightening girls is not the way to make them come visit you.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 5 June 2003 01:47 (twenty-two years ago)

I did not wish to frighten, but inform.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 5 June 2003 01:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, thanks for nothing, Dan Rather.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 5 June 2003 01:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Courage.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 5 June 2003 03:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Why are we calling this a Maxifap, again?

Some people were using the term "MegaFAP", which I thought sounded too cool. The 'maxi-' prefix calls to mind things like reggae bands and hygeine products.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 5 June 2003 16:16 (twenty-two years ago)

The FAP with a fresh daisy scent.

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 5 June 2003 16:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Please don't tempt me to wear my Farrah hair and call it a MaxiFAP with wings. You don't want to see the result of that.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 5 June 2003 16:24 (twenty-two years ago)

MegaFAP suggests Megaweapon, therefore it's better.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 5 June 2003 16:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Spencer, that Burl Ives photoshop is one of the most slick and disturbing jobs I've ever seen.

That said, I do plan to fly down to LA one of these weekends this summer... late July at the earliest, mainly because it's U&K that I see my mom, my grandmother, and the new litter of Great Dane puppies at their house before they get sold off.

Would LOVE to finally do a proper LA FAP witchoo guise if at all possible!

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 5 June 2003 16:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Mega Maxi Shmega Shmaxi.

MackroFAP.

donut bitch (donut), Thursday, 5 June 2003 16:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh you'd LIKE that, wouldn't you?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 5 June 2003 16:58 (twenty-two years ago)

jesus christ, you photograph well spencer

chaki (chaki), Thursday, 5 June 2003 17:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Does this mean he looks like Gollum in person?

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 5 June 2003 17:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, that's bloody disappointing.

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 5 June 2003 17:27 (twenty-two years ago)

no he looks great in person too! i dint mean it like that.

chaki (chaki), Thursday, 5 June 2003 17:32 (twenty-two years ago)

Spencer in person is the Mang. And when you hear him talk, Ally will be enthralled.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 5 June 2003 17:34 (twenty-two years ago)

So he sounds like Richey Manic?

Nicole (Nicole), Thursday, 5 June 2003 17:35 (twenty-two years ago)

In that he does not sound Welsh, no he does not. (Seriously, he has one of those 'are you an announcer?' voices that I'm alleged to have. The two of us on the air would be too cool for school. "More DNTEL, Mr. Chow?" "Yes, Mr. Raggett.")

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 5 June 2003 17:37 (twenty-two years ago)

Why me? Why is it always me? See also the thread about Toronto. Are you all obsessed with me? It's because of my spread in Playboy, isn't it?

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 5 June 2003 17:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh do go on.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 5 June 2003 18:03 (twenty-two years ago)

PERVERT!

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 5 June 2003 18:06 (twenty-two years ago)

*whimpers*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 5 June 2003 18:07 (twenty-two years ago)

*flounces*

Ally (mlescaut), Thursday, 5 June 2003 18:09 (twenty-two years ago)

IDENTITY THIEF.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 5 June 2003 18:10 (twenty-two years ago)

three months pass...
I'm in LA. I'm meeting loads of interesting folks - I'm hesitant to say this but...

Who from ILM is in LA?

Calzer (Calzer), Sunday, 7 September 2003 22:26 (twenty-one years ago)

three years pass...

Me.

humansuit, Friday, 1 June 2007 01:15 (eighteen years ago)

who is?

chaki, Friday, 1 June 2007 01:48 (eighteen years ago)

Humansuit, the mystery man.

Ned Raggett, Friday, 1 June 2007 01:50 (eighteen years ago)

Um, me.

Do you want to meet up at a strip club later? Bathroom stall? No?

X

humansuit, Friday, 1 June 2007 01:50 (eighteen years ago)

No, coke.

stevienixed, Friday, 1 June 2007 05:01 (eighteen years ago)
