don't you love the monoclap in that song?

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 18 January 2004 00:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Well yes. I also love how that song kept being a weird recurrent hit throughout the eighties over here (I swear I saw them on MTV playing it in 1988 or something).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 18 January 2004 00:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Wooargh *wakes up*. Sorry I was in absentia yesterday y'all. I was recovering from a heavy fridee night of sustance abuse and picking on ex boyfriends in goth nightclubs, as you do, haha.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 18 January 2004 01:27 (twenty-two years ago)

donna (donna), Sunday, 18 January 2004 05:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I LOVE YOU TOO DI I'll hide in Jim's guitar case or something. I'd fit, wouldn't I?

PS I'm not drunk.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 18 January 2004 05:10 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah you'd probably fit. or curled up in the back of my amp

the surface noise (electricsound), Sunday, 18 January 2004 05:10 (twenty-two years ago)

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 18 January 2004 05:12 (twenty-two years ago)

DONNA HOW ARE YOU?

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 18 January 2004 05:13 (twenty-two years ago)

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 18 January 2004 05:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Our threads are like the days when alterno clubs were a novelty, and you'd see people peep in the door scared and look horrified and run off again.

Ned's like, the bouncer, Colin Jim and gaz are the DJs, and me and Di are drunk on the dancefloor singing along to assorted 80s aussie 1 hit wonder chooons. HUZZAH!

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 18 January 2004 05:16 (twenty-two years ago)

(nb: this is really how i am at nights out)(be warned)

mullygrubber (gaz), Sunday, 18 January 2004 05:51 (twenty-two years ago)

Hurray! I almost fell down the stairs when leaving Dream on Friday night so hey, its all good. And I'm now remembering the girl who got herself trapped in the toilets cos the sliding door came off its hinges and jammed at a 45 degree angle and she couldnt climb over it and we couldnt figure out how to move it, and the bouncer came in and fixed it in 2 seconds, which goes to show how trashed we were.

Ah, fun times.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 18 January 2004 05:54 (twenty-two years ago)

hellz bellz you people have more fun than me i feel like i'm missing out

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 18 January 2004 05:54 (twenty-two years ago)

all i did last night was drink booze and get pulled over by the cops for driving like a maniac

the surface noise (electricsound), Sunday, 18 January 2004 05:55 (twenty-two years ago)

mullygrubber (gaz), Sunday, 18 January 2004 05:56 (twenty-two years ago)

the surface noise (electricsound), Sunday, 18 January 2004 05:57 (twenty-two years ago)

i think they went easy on me because they pulled me over right in front of my house

the surface noise (electricsound), Sunday, 18 January 2004 05:57 (twenty-two years ago)

or possibly because i probably looked like i was about to burst into tears

the surface noise (electricsound), Sunday, 18 January 2004 05:58 (twenty-two years ago)

"honest officer i was just moving it to a better spot. also i am depressed"

mullygrubber (gaz), Sunday, 18 January 2004 05:59 (twenty-two years ago)

the surface noise (electricsound), Sunday, 18 January 2004 06:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow fuck, close call. I won't rouse on you for driving drunk... THIS time ;P

I may sound like I have fun but Friday was a mega-rarity for me, I NEVER go anywhere anymore :(

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 18 January 2004 06:02 (twenty-two years ago)

if it makes you feel any better i used to drive drunk too. once i had a pig tailing me from the stiffy to north east valley and for half the voyage i didn't even have my lights on. silly fucker didn't even pull me over. thank fuck i don't do that anymore.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 18 January 2004 06:04 (twenty-two years ago)

mullygrubber (gaz), Sunday, 18 January 2004 06:17 (twenty-two years ago)

I've been in cars with ppl over the limit but I refuse if I know its the case, since Ive had a few near-misses.

Actually being in a car with a stoned person is just as scary and even more so if yr stoned too, PARANOIA kicks in and I'm all "OMG YOURE GOING TOO FAST SLOW DOWN MAN" when we're only doing 50k/h on Dandy Road.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 18 January 2004 06:25 (twenty-two years ago)

cue my "driving on acid" story? the scariest thing i have ever experienced.

mullygrubber (gaz), Sunday, 18 January 2004 06:26 (twenty-two years ago)

Do tell!

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 18 January 2004 06:30 (twenty-two years ago)

I've driven on an acid come down which is scary enough, I spun my beetle just outside stocksbridge.

Ed (dali), Sunday, 18 January 2004 06:31 (twenty-two years ago)

after an hour on the stockton sand dunes saying "o shit, this isn't working" ( cos, ah, we were in a wird environment and who could tell???) we hopped in the car to go to the beach. suddenly e v r y t h i n g was slllllllllllliiiiiiding. The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 02:33 (twenty-two years ago)

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 05:13 (twenty-two years ago)

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 05:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah Jim, you heartless meanie. I CAN TAKE BACK THAT REVIEW YOU KNOW. "Led by a cruel tyrant who torments innocent Dunedin rock stars, Tugboat plays its suspect trade..."

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 05:15 (twenty-two years ago)

if i had my way i'd move you ALL to melbourne!!

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 05:16 (twenty-two years ago)

No, you would all come here, so we could settle this 'they can actually do Mexican food in Australia no really' nonsense. But we could always go back and visit.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 05:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Which reminds me, we must get around to koala tacos.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 05:20 (twenty-two years ago)

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Tuesday, 20 January 2004 05:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 02:21 (twenty-two years ago)

why did you want to bump the thread?

mullygrubber (gaz), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 02:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Bondi, Saturday, 11pm: Punters at the Bondi Hotel were stunned on Saturday night after overhearing the Queen putting shit on a group of New Zealand backpackers.
"Ya shhtupid fuskin ssheep-rooterers" commented the Queen after one of the tourists spilt her 12th schooner. "None of youse can plaay cricket for sssssshit. And youse shhtink at footy, too, don't yasss. eh? eh? eh? yess yas do... eh? Shhtupid New Fucksing Zealandernessses. Why don't youse all sscare me with a haka dansce? hey? ..... kiwi poofs."

Following the incident, New Zealand's Prime Minister considered declaring war on Australia, but decided not to after realising that New Zealand would lose because New Zealand is crap at everything.

mullygrubber (gaz), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 03:20 (twenty-two years ago)

oooo you're gonna get in trouble for that one

the surface noise (electricsound), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 03:21 (twenty-two years ago)

mullygrubber (gaz), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 03:42 (twenty-two years ago)

the surface noise (electricsound), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 03:44 (twenty-two years ago)

mullygrubber (gaz), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 03:48 (twenty-two years ago)

the surface noise (electricsound), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 03:49 (twenty-two years ago)

nono its actually ON the top aussie guide site. below "Queen wins Summernats Burnout Comp in blown Holden Ute" and a few other ridiculous stories.

WELL, are you two having a GOOD TIME?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 05:47 (twenty-two years ago)

dear melbourne. please tell me about the stabs. i want to know as they are coming here to play with my friends the futurians in a few months.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 06:46 (twenty-two years ago)

i have not heard of these stabs!

the surface noise (electricsound), Wednesday, 21 January 2004 06:52 (twenty-two years ago)

They are orchestral stabs?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 2 February 2004 22:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Jim, where did you defend us on Mono?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 2 February 2004 22:30 (twenty-two years ago)

there was a thread about mono vs ilx

the surface noise (electricsound), Monday, 2 February 2004 22:32 (twenty-two years ago)

i can't seem to find it though

the surface noise (electricsound), Monday, 2 February 2004 22:32 (twenty-two years ago)

their own planet appeared to be close to death. they were gonna invade! jim staunched the breach.

mullygrubber (gaz), Monday, 2 February 2004 22:34 (twenty-two years ago)

please don't be mad if we don't get funding for a tour. february is turning out to be A Very Stressful Month and i may not have time to fill in these damn forms which are due in three weeks. maybe we can save for the tour ourselves, we'll see.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Monday, 2 February 2004 22:35 (twenty-two years ago)

hey that's cool. we might be popping over mid-year anyhoos

the surface noise (electricsound), Monday, 2 February 2004 22:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Hello Di!

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 2 February 2004 22:36 (twenty-two years ago)

oh my life sucks, hello colin.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Monday, 2 February 2004 22:36 (twenty-two years ago)

:-(

mullygrubber (gaz), Monday, 2 February 2004 22:36 (twenty-two years ago)

i am just being a worrywort, my landlord is trying to evict us without sufficient notice. they have ordered builders to demolish part of our house in a week!!! ASSSSSSSSSSSSSHOOOLLLLLLLLLEEEEEESSSSSS

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Monday, 2 February 2004 22:40 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm sorry to hear it. You've called the tenants advice people?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 2 February 2004 22:44 (twenty-two years ago)

not yet, hopefully the landlord will listen to reason when we get in touch with them. ie the thread of a tenancy tribunal meeting.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Monday, 2 February 2004 22:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Evil landlord! Di, I will smite them from afar. By, uh, jumping up and down and stamping or something.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 2 February 2004 22:47 (twenty-two years ago)

hahaha! its just i'm going out of town for a week as of tomorrow and i'm fretting that it won't get sorted out in time. it probably will though.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Monday, 2 February 2004 22:49 (twenty-two years ago)

hopee you don't return to find your abode demolished

mullygrubber (gaz), Monday, 2 February 2004 22:50 (twenty-two years ago)

What you need to do is organise a dance off! To save the bulding. That's what Mickey Rooney would do.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 01:17 (twenty-two years ago)

'bulding' = New Zealand for 'building'.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 03:19 (twenty-two years ago)

that's a load of bullding

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 03:23 (twenty-two years ago)

You know what? We need our own separate ILX category, not just a thread. We could call it "I Love Koala Tacos".

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 07:05 (twenty-two years ago)

lets not. i might never escape.

have you been to IRE yet col?

mullygrubber (gaz), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 09:00 (twenty-two years ago)

I was going to ask, gaz - what is IRE and how do I join?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 09:09 (twenty-two years ago)

http://ilx.wh3rd.net/newanswers.php?board=10

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 09:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Am I correct in assuming that the slightly flat, lonely tone of those threads is due primarily to the fact that we're not performing to as big an audience? That we are all exhibitionists and get off on people not from Australia or NZ reading our stupid shit? Cos I know that I for one get off on Raggett's and Oops's occasional intrusions to ask about koalas or whatever.

I'm drunk, you see, and therefore entitled to be rude.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 09:25 (twenty-two years ago)

i don't know what happened to IRE, it used to be a lot more exciting. it also used to be called "i hate everything" and we got a lot of people who would turn up, start threads about hating britney spears, then leave. i kind of miss the trolls too, especially lola, and adrian, he had such funny nicknames for us. "duassfag", "the lady ms dogshit", "elesbian" and so forth.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 09:47 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, it's just nice to be here with you lot again. I really hope to meet you all some day.

Just thinking about the differences between Mono and ILX some more... ILX is like the big ocean, cold and fearsome but deep, far reaching, and populated by big fish. Mono's like the kids paddling pool: warm, shallow, safe, and the little kids are always pissing in it.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 09:55 (twenty-two years ago)

so true!

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 10:19 (twenty-two years ago)

so we come here instead. to do our tiny warm pisses into the great cold ocean

mullygrubber (gaz), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 10:26 (twenty-two years ago)

where it's not as noticeable :)

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 10:37 (twenty-two years ago)

I come here for the bracing international union of intellectual souls; then retreat to Mono for some homespun, humble, home cooking.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 10:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Am I being sarcastic? I don't even know any more.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 11:01 (twenty-two years ago)

di's crappy landlord situation update! bad news: we have lost our tenancy agreement, we are so very stupid. the good news is that i've been reading the residential tenancies act (yes, tis every bit as full of hideous jargon as it sounds) and i think i just found the clause that will save us from this weekend's eviction.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 11:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Hurrah for the good news! :-) Report back and hopefully such nastiness can be averted.

Cos I know that I for one get off on Raggett's and Oops's occasional intrusions to ask about koalas or whatever.

Wallaby tamales?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 15:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey everyone. I'm an aussie.

Just thought I'd let you know.

jole, Tuesday, 3 February 2004 16:20 (twenty-two years ago)

*pisses in ocean right next to jole*

welcome!

mullygrubber (gaz), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 21:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Di, don't despair, you can get free tenancy advice on the phone -

http://www.minhousing.govt.nz/tenancy/

also, you can get a copy of the agreement from the real estate agent/landlord or maybe also the ministry of housing, if it's lodged there as well. At any rate, that's not an obstacle - and there are probably legislative requirements about notice that override any agreements anyway. Speak to the people above on their info/advice line, and good luck.

Musicians eh? So brilliant with melodies, so hopeless with everyday affairs.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 22:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Hi Jole.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 22:12 (twenty-two years ago)

*waves at jole from across the ditch*

hey we rang up the tenancy tribunal people this morning, THE LAW IS ON OUR SIDE HALLELUJAH AMEN. it was such childish pleasure ringing our landlord and advising him about that.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 22:54 (twenty-two years ago)

Haha! Victory for the good people!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 23:01 (twenty-two years ago)

yippee!

mullygrubber (gaz), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 23:04 (twenty-two years ago)

di, you are so NOT "the lady ms dogshit"!

Eisbär (llamasfur), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 23:10 (twenty-two years ago)

i still think that "assdrew" was adrian's best zing

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 23:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Assdrew! haha.

Di, what exactly is the coup de grace savint throw you've found, anyway? I'm always interested in people sticking it to the man, esp where cunty real estate agencies are involved.

PS Stockdale and Leggo st kilda, you are assholes.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 23:44 (twenty-two years ago)

well our landlord claims that we signed a periodic lease with a little clause saying that he only has to give us two weeks notice. (we've lost our lease but we remember agreeing to no such thing.)according to the tenancy tribunal, on a periodic lease any such clause is redundant because the 90 day rule always applies.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 23:52 (twenty-two years ago)

Woohoo!

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 23:54 (twenty-two years ago)

can we all get funny nicknames? i'll be gaz the spaz if you like, or probably less offensively gaz the fuckwit

mullygrubber (gaz), Tuesday, 3 February 2004 23:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Once again, I am confused.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 5 February 2004 03:49 (twenty-two years ago)

more about "wildfire," from our friends at allmusic.com:
In 1974, Murphey moved to Epic Records, a division of Columbia, and recorded the first of six albums, Michael Murphey, that same year. It was his second album, Blue Sky - Night Thunder, recorded in 1975, however, that marked Murphey's commercial breakthrough. He had first heard the story about a ghost horse rescuing people on the desert when he was a boy, from his grandfather, and Murphey dreamed of something similar one night as an adult and set it down to music and words in half an hour that same evening. The resulting song, "Wildfire," got to number three on the pop charts in 1975 and became Murphey's first gold record. Another song off of the same album, "Carolina in the Pines," also made the Top 30.

i just downloaded this offa soulseek -- there's this piano impromptu at the beginning and the end of it that i'd never heard before. then mr. murphey starts singing about wildfire.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 9 February 2004 02:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Actually, I was going to ask after the Lime Spiders' influence on the development of youth in East Torrens.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 9 February 2004 02:05 (twenty-two years ago)

i wish i could remember all my brother-in-laws aussie-isms and chime in with some of em.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Monday, 9 February 2004 02:08 (twenty-two years ago)

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Monday, 9 February 2004 02:14 (twenty-two years ago)

There is a fortune to be made with Australian scatology, I deem.

Scatology: The Australian Coil Show

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 9 February 2004 02:18 (twenty-two years ago)

I might've known I wouldn't fool you. Hot damn, you've even heard of The Lime Spiders. What's the name of the singer then?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 9 February 2004 02:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Uh, ask me a harder question I wouldn't have to use the AMG for, say. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 9 February 2004 02:21 (twenty-two years ago)

mullygrubber (gaz), Monday, 9 February 2004 02:23 (twenty-two years ago)

About as much as a platypus. Oh wait.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 9 February 2004 02:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Hmmm. OK.

Michael Tee was in the Systematics. What band was he in next and name a release and the label on which it was released.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 9 February 2004 02:35 (twenty-two years ago)

i think scattered order and the systematics existed in parallel at one stage..

the surface noise (electricsound), Monday, 9 February 2004 02:36 (twenty-two years ago)

nah i know where the M Squared site is :)

the surface noise (electricsound), Monday, 9 February 2004 02:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 9 February 2004 02:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 9 February 2004 02:44 (twenty-two years ago)

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 9 February 2004 02:45 (twenty-two years ago)

How come you know the real TISMers ned?

I am teasing. ;-) I figured that would be the most outrageous thing to claim.

the surface noise (electricsound), Monday, 9 February 2004 04:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned, where we come from, to eat your friends is the highest compliment there is. You should be proud.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 9 February 2004 04:42 (twenty-two years ago)

So you're saying everytime you stuff a koala in a taco it's an act of love.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 9 February 2004 04:43 (twenty-two years ago)

no, that's an act of environmental terrorism

the surface noise (electricsound), Monday, 9 February 2004 04:43 (twenty-two years ago)

Done as a compliment, though.

As for being Jesus, why thank you. No nailing up, please. I will come dancing across the water.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 9 February 2004 04:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Well, if there was any doubt a few posts up, I'm happy to say we're talking complete shit again now.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 9 February 2004 04:45 (twenty-two years ago)

mullygrubber (gaz), Monday, 9 February 2004 21:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Aha, I think my lady's performing at that one. The ironing etc

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 9 February 2004 21:42 (twenty-two years ago)

Maybe we could just arrive early for Whitehouse and then she could go on and do the G*rlesque thing. I think she'd like Whitehouse. She hates women almost as much as they do.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 9 February 2004 21:52 (twenty-two years ago)

ha! sounds perfect.
can she get my name on the door for the lesbian thing?

mullygrubber (gaz), Monday, 9 February 2004 21:54 (twenty-two years ago)

mullygrubber (gaz), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 01:50 (twenty-two years ago)

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 01:53 (twenty-two years ago)

mullygrubber (gaz), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 01:56 (twenty-two years ago)

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 01:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Speaking of twisties have you seen the ad for the new twirly twisties? I'm like, wtf.. theyre TWISTIES, theyre already twisted. But these ones are like crinkle chips or something I think.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 02:54 (twenty-two years ago)

i feel like some twisties right now actually

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 02:55 (twenty-two years ago)

these twisties go up to 11.

mullygrubber (gaz), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 02:57 (twenty-two years ago)

I now have a new insight into the south of the world.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 03:04 (twenty-two years ago)

You havent tried twisties, ned? Chicken or cheese? I hate the chicken ones m'self.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 03:34 (twenty-two years ago)

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 03:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Wow really? Do you hate fun?

*ducks* ;)

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 03:38 (twenty-two years ago)

the chicken ones silly

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 03:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Ohhh. I was gonna say!

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 03:43 (twenty-two years ago)

i just had a packet of the cheese ones! they made my teef hurt

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 03:44 (twenty-two years ago)

I always get bits stuck in m'teef. Actually I've quite gone off twisties/burger rings etc. Every time I eat chips I just feel groo afterwards. I should bring packet soups and peanuts or something to work to snack on, I'm turning into a lardy.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 03:53 (twenty-two years ago)

they make me think of that skyhooks song smut. do you like skyhooks ned?

mullygrubber (gaz), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 03:57 (twenty-two years ago)

Slip into a cinema and give yourself a treat
Better take a raincoat could be sticky on the seat
Open up your Twisties and open up your fly
Pictures start to flicker as your hand moves down your thigh

mullygrubber (gaz), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 04:01 (twenty-two years ago)

Munchy Munchy Twisties the shorts are such a drag
Make a little opening in the other end of your bag
Now put your Twisties right down there in your lap
No-one ever guesses whatsit's in the pack

mullygrubber (gaz), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 04:02 (twenty-two years ago)

I know why you like Skyhooks, at least.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 04:02 (twenty-two years ago)

ouch

mullygrubber (gaz), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 04:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Speaking of twisties have you seen the ad for the new twirly twisties? I'm like, wtf.. theyre TWISTIES, theyre already twisted. But these ones are like crinkle chips or something I think.
-- Trayce (trayc...) (webmail), February 10th, 2004. (trayce)

I've tried these Trayce. They are exactly like Cheezels only with a Twisties flavour. I was eating them thinking, 'hmm, what's the point? Their stongest point was that they were twisted. Now they're staight-acting'.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 05:40 (twenty-two years ago)

Sounds crap!

You know in Italy they have a twisties-like thing called Fonzies! According to an ex of mine who emailed me telling me this (as you do).

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 06:17 (twenty-two years ago)

You lot are making me hungry. My kingdom for a decent meat pie!

Things I miss (foodwise): lamingtons, iced vovos, kingstons, fantales, minties and jaffas, crunchies, milk-bottles, malteasers and freddo frogs, flakes, turkish delight and milo bars, twisties, and for some reason I have never understood - space food.

Pardon me whilst I go make some toast with vegemite.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 09:15 (twenty-two years ago)

Ooh, and Passiona.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 09:19 (twenty-two years ago)

Luna has created a culinary vision! But what does it all mean? And Space Food?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 16:06 (twenty-two years ago)

Luna! A fellow aussie-in-exile feels your pain! Oh and might I add space food sticks? like the birds wings ones. classic

Jole (Jole), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 16:11 (twenty-two years ago)

shall we make up a care package for Luna and Jole? Next time you're here Ned you must eat nothing but aussie brand snack food!

mullygrubber (gaz), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 21:11 (twenty-two years ago)

NUM!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 21:21 (twenty-two years ago)

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 21:25 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 21:27 (twenty-two years ago)

mullygrubber (gaz), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 22:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 22:20 (twenty-two years ago)

Are we talking space food sticks here?

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 22:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 22:24 (twenty-two years ago)

It's the food you eat if you're in space and there's nothing else to eat/

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 22:28 (twenty-two years ago)

Was picturing popcorn fried in jalepeno pepper and sprinkled with oregano.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 22:30 (twenty-two years ago)

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 22:31 (twenty-two years ago)

my son is addicted to caramelo bears.

mullygrubber (gaz), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 23:01 (twenty-two years ago)

You really can divide the world into two, no three types of people. Those who like space food sticks, those who hate space food sticks and those who have no fucking clue what the hell they are.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 23:01 (twenty-two years ago)

i like caramello bears too but they hurt my teef

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 23:16 (twenty-two years ago)

i do. now, anyway.

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 23:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Do they still make Ovalteenies?

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 23:17 (twenty-two years ago)

Ooh, and Milky Bars - I want those, too.

Milky Bars are the best choccies God ever made.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 23:18 (twenty-two years ago)

You can def still buy ovalteenies, but granted they're a little harder to find these days.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 23:21 (twenty-two years ago)

I was just thinking to myself, 'Oh, I remember when those came out... when I was in Manly... IN 1982."

Dear lord.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 23:22 (twenty-two years ago)

Kingston bikkies! OMG, I havent had those in ages. The choc filling in those is SO creamy and unusual.

And am I going mad, or is it impossible to find jaffa cakes anymore? I can never see them in Coles :(

Space food sticks are pretty rank, but then I havent eaten one since I was a kid. What are they in reality, some kind of chewy gelatinous choc/malt flavoured glob in stick form?

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 23:45 (twenty-two years ago)

I was in Manly in 1982 once, on a school exursion (I lived in Canberra). We went on the ferry and I ate a whole bag of Lolly Gobble Bliss Bombs and was sick.

It was 48 deg that day, mein gott. We went to Jenolan Caves, so escaped most of the days heat, but when we got back to the house I was billetted at, I had to walk there in the heatwave and I got heatstroke.

Maybe this is why I hate sydney so much.

Trayce (trayce), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 23:47 (twenty-two years ago)

It's probably another one of those foods where it's best not to think about it too much trayce

Bribe an English mate. Jaffas are in every newsagents or supermarket....or were, last I saw.

Nichole Graham (Nichole Graham), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 23:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Don't think about them, just eat them! (Bearing in mind that I haven't had one since 1984).

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 23:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Lolly Gobble Bliss Bombs !!!!!

mullygrubber (gaz), Tuesday, 10 February 2004 23:57 (twenty-two years ago)

-- mullygrubber (tinydemon...) (webmail), February 11th, 2004. (gaz)

Got it, finally. Now I have to reorganise my babysitting! I am totally with the idea of getting totalled before Candy's at a nearby pub, rather than paying $7 or whatever inside. So yeah.

mullygrubber (gaz), Thursday, 12 February 2004 00:47 (twenty-two years ago)

The answer ain't on this thread, now is it?

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Thursday, 12 February 2004 01:05 (twenty-two years ago)

Do the Balts insult each other? Do you call Latvians pork-snorters and Lithuanians cheese-dribblers?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 12 February 2004 01:06 (twenty-two years ago)

I think I can field the first question Ned. Yes, the Balts do indeed insult each other.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 12 February 2004 01:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Thank you, I am gratified.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 12 February 2004 01:36 (twenty-two years ago)

mole, i admire your extraordinary sharpness of vision :)

(however, i personally have never insulted a latvian or lithuanian in my worthless life)

ned - i'm glad you found gratification.

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Thursday, 12 February 2004 01:37 (twenty-two years ago)

mullygrubber (gaz), Thursday, 12 February 2004 01:50 (twenty-two years ago)

the surface noise (electricsound), Saturday, 14 February 2004 03:04 (twenty-two years ago)

And how did you answer, oh lover of the butt?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 14 February 2004 03:28 (twenty-two years ago)

in the affirmative

the surface noise (electricsound), Saturday, 14 February 2004 03:33 (twenty-two years ago)

Wise.

Tugboat should release a concept EP consisted of nothing but love of bum songs, ie Spinal Tap's "Big Bottom," Sir Mix-A-Lot's "Baby Got Back," etc.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 14 February 2004 03:36 (twenty-two years ago)

and of course "suck my ass it smells"

the surface noise (electricsound), Saturday, 14 February 2004 03:39 (twenty-two years ago)

I would not hold you from your dream.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 14 February 2004 03:40 (twenty-two years ago)

We had work drinks, and then I went home and kept drinking. Plus I didnt eat any dinner. I went shopping at JBs while drunk - bad idea. Tho I didnt buy anything stupid (XFiles movie, Zoolander, Devils Advocate and umm... a cd. Which I dont evenm recall what it was now!)

I have a craving for brocoli and garlic.

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 14 February 2004 03:59 (twenty-two years ago)

Bloody hell Trayce, are you one of those annoying people who have only healthy cravings?

Gaz/Mullygrubber is coming over any second now. I have vodka in the freezer. We are going to Whitehouse! My woman loves me again, I'm back in her good books. I brought her breakfast on a tray with flowers, croissant, juice, coffee with a loveheart on top This morning. That did the trick.

Oh dear, if she sees this post I'm a dead man.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Saturday, 14 February 2004 07:08 (twenty-two years ago)

Colin - rofl, mostly yeah. I get cravings for vegetables and miso soup and things suchlike, and I really dont like chocs or anything sweet.

But I love hot chips and I'm getting a gut. :(

We didnt do our valentines day picnic after all cos its like, 41 or something hideous here. Theres an elec substation somewhere down the road that overloaded and made a huge BOOM BOOM noise abt 20 mins ago and all the power went off momentarily. STOP USING AIRCONDITIONERS.

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 14 February 2004 07:35 (twenty-two years ago)

Well mullygrubber and I had our Whitehouse FAP didn't we mullygrubber? Bleuuurgh my head hurts. I think I had more than a pint.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Saturday, 14 February 2004 21:35 (twenty-two years ago)

i went out last night. SOBER.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Saturday, 14 February 2004 22:16 (twenty-two years ago)

Why?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 15 February 2004 00:27 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh god goh god GOD it is SO HOT HERE, I mean it isnt as hot as yesyterday but my building's walls absorbed all yesterdays heat and now IM DYING IN A HUMID OVEN ARGH.

Mind you. I bought (because I am slow) Interpols "Turn on the Bright Lights" yesterday and I'm listening to it now, and god almighty its a wonderful album. Someone on ILM once said they were bringing atmosphere (ha, no JD pun intended) back into rock and I liked that, it made me realise why I hate most current bands. I'm tired of humour and irony and cleverness. I want sweeping majesty and gloom and sadness and music that sinks me into a world with windswept cliffs and things.

Man, I am in an odd mood.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 15 February 2004 02:08 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm with you, dear Trayce. I just wish it wasn't them trying to do it. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 15 February 2004 02:13 (twenty-two years ago)

What, so you dont like them then? I kinda thought you would :)

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 15 February 2004 02:16 (twenty-two years ago)

There are a couple of ancient posts on this board where I first heard about them and I was duly intrigued given the descriptions. But after listening, Donut Bitch put it best when he pointed out that both he and I already really loved the Kitchens of Distinction -- and they had better lyrics anyway, which is normally not a key point for me but in this case...

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 15 February 2004 02:18 (twenty-two years ago)

Trayce, I think you're have a Bronte sisters moment.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 15 February 2004 02:31 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah I did a search and saw those KoD comparisons. Having only heard one KoD song (which I thought was lovely, a bit Cocteaus/Lowlife/Smithsy or something) I probably should get some more! ANd I think you've told me to before if I recall rightly, heh.

xpost funny that Col - as I was typing that post "wuthering heights" popped into my head and I thought "good god, what a goth cliche I am being".

Which, considering I have on a baby-tee, grey denim miniskirt and my hair in a vague greasy 80's sidepart ponytail, I most certainly am NOT.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 15 February 2004 02:33 (twenty-two years ago)

i'm never drinking on my 29th birthday again

the surface noise (electricsound), Sunday, 15 February 2004 02:35 (twenty-two years ago)

ANd I think you've told me to before if I recall rightly, heh.

Quite right! ;-)

Actually, here's a question for you Aussie mongrels -- who sent me this CDR that arrived today with some stuff by an Andy Rantzen on it? And why no name on the envelope so I know who sent it?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 15 February 2004 02:35 (twenty-two years ago)

probably just some mole

the surface noise (electricsound), Sunday, 15 February 2004 02:36 (twenty-two years ago)

Because I vaguely remember somebody saying they might send something.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 15 February 2004 02:41 (twenty-two years ago)

I do not wish to see my real name on this thread again. You will kill independant colin! Worlds will collide! Ned, that must've been mullygrubber or Jim?

Whitehouse eh mully? What can I say? THEY ROCKED. But it is essential to be well and truly drunk on vodka to really appreciate them.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 15 February 2004 03:02 (twenty-two years ago)

that's the plan!

the surface noise (electricsound), Sunday, 15 February 2004 03:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Ned, that must've been mullygrubber or Jim?

Mullygrubber now that I think of it -- if it's a problem I could ask the mods to delete yer name? I didn't mean to upset!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 15 February 2004 03:04 (twenty-two years ago)

WHITEHOUSE ROCKED! COLIN DRANK HALF A BOTTLE OF VODKA! WE WENT TO THE AFTERSHOW PARTY AND THE AMAZING RACHAEL FORCED US EACH TO APPROACH THE DJ AND INSIST THEY PLAY THE CH*RRY 2000 CD!

sorry colin, i didn't expect Ned would do that :-(

mullygrubber (gaz), Sunday, 15 February 2004 04:54 (twenty-two years ago)

At least no one said what Col is famous for hem hem I'll get me coat...

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 15 February 2004 05:00 (twenty-two years ago)

Man, I brought everyone down! :-(

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 15 February 2004 05:52 (twenty-two years ago)

No Ned, you didn't bring anyone down, and your Honorary Australian status remains unsullied. And your blood undrunk, heh heh.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 15 February 2004 06:09 (twenty-two years ago)

I'm safe for now!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 15 February 2004 06:10 (twenty-two years ago)

Indeed. Here, listen to some Interpol ;P

STEEELLAARRR... STELLAA uu HHAHHHHH

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 15 February 2004 06:11 (twenty-two years ago)

Here, listen to some Interpol ;P

Wah!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 15 February 2004 06:12 (twenty-two years ago)

Can't you hear me yell-aaah?
You're puttin' me through hell-aaah!
Stellaaaah, STELLAAAAAAAH!!!!!

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 15 February 2004 06:12 (twenty-two years ago)

God everytime I listen to that Stella interpol song thats ALL I CAN BLOODY SEE IS NED FLANDERS IN A NU-FACTORY BAND ITS WRONG I TELL YOU.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 15 February 2004 06:14 (twenty-two years ago)

Jim, Colin may well be right about the voddy and whitehouse. i'd had a few beers which put weight in my boots. colin was flying on vodka. he wore a tie with a skull on it. up front, right in the middle. whoyehouse took their shirts off! they made the audience chant rock'n'roll. there was a scrambling fight where two punters lost it and rolled around the floor beating each other up. one of the support acts ATE a wine glass.

later we listened to pantera.

mullygrubber (gaz), Sunday, 15 February 2004 06:23 (twenty-two years ago)

how was the morning col? three hours sleep and sarah jane. great kid btw.

mullygrubber (gaz), Sunday, 15 February 2004 06:29 (twenty-two years ago)

Whitehouse - they both wore sunglasses. The gig started with them off-stage, abusing the audience, just kind of getting warmed up!

My fave moment was when they took off their shirts, open their arms and hands wide, and pulled faces like they were both getting a blow-job from Kali herself. THAT's rock and roll audacity.

The following morning was predictably difficult mully. Headache, no sleep, and a child at 7am wanting to get cracking on the best part of the day. I kept sneaking off to take little naps, and got through it OK.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 15 February 2004 06:30 (twenty-two years ago)

That's the first gig I've unreservedly and wholeheartedly enjoyed for almost 15 years. You MUST see this band people. But be sure that you are really drunk, otherwise you won't get into it.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 15 February 2004 06:38 (twenty-two years ago)

one of them looked like georgio moroder (that was bennet, right?) the other was a strutting rock god geek. great sunglasses both!

mullygrubber (gaz), Sunday, 15 February 2004 06:48 (twenty-two years ago)

Bennet looked like a mad, balding accountant or dentist. Best looked like a Canadian rock star, a Brian Adams type - or maybe a rapper from Norway in the Eurovision Song Contest.

I was reminded of Gilbert and George too, especially in their drunk phase when they'd film themselves insulting people.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 15 February 2004 06:57 (twenty-two years ago)

i am so pumped for this gig now!!

the surface noise (electricsound), Sunday, 15 February 2004 07:03 (twenty-two years ago)

Jim, you're gonna LOVE it. And you will also love watching all the chin stroking, half-academic Wire readers deal with something really visceral. They got really spun out. Some went crazy, some struggled to retain the shreds of their dignity.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 15 February 2004 07:05 (twenty-two years ago)

BTW Mully, Peter was a great guy.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 15 February 2004 07:06 (twenty-two years ago)

yeah, blew his chance there though ;-)

Gilbert & George OTM!

also i can't believe that was an hour! it felt like 20 mins!

mullygrubber (gaz), Sunday, 15 February 2004 07:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Yes, it just flew by in a blizzard of invective and pink noise.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 15 February 2004 08:07 (twenty-two years ago)

do you feel cleansed? have you taken on board the invective and struggled to reasess the LIES you tell yourself and others? have you taken off your shirt and spread your wings?

expect mt grant application: "The visceral, or why lyrics without four letter words ain't worth shit"

mullygrubber (gaz), Sunday, 15 February 2004 08:26 (twenty-two years ago)

That sounds like the title of a piece by Lester Bangs.

He bangs, he bangs etc

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 15 February 2004 08:40 (twenty-two years ago)

can i just say that i love all the australians and new zealanders who have posted on this thread, and you colin sir, are a great bloke

mullygrubber (gaz), Sunday, 15 February 2004 08:56 (twenty-two years ago)

Aw thanks mully, I love youze too. But not in a poofy way or anything.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 15 February 2004 12:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Wasn't it hard to readjust to reality in the FAP environment though? I found it hard not to talk all night about ILE, even though I was driving the people around us who had some kind of life crazy with such nerdy chat.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 15 February 2004 12:30 (twenty-two years ago)

i kept wanting to call you colin. (what are you called on electroalliance?)

plus i had not had enough to drink.

mullygrubber (gaz), Sunday, 15 February 2004 21:17 (twenty-two years ago)

You know the weird thing? I now feel like a colin. And when I see the name, I get a little narcissistic frisson. The same thing is happening to the word 'mole'.

You were so not drunk enough.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 15 February 2004 21:20 (twenty-two years ago)

On electroalliance I'm called 'circuit_freak'

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 15 February 2004 21:21 (twenty-two years ago)

also from upthread: I'm tired of humour and irony and cleverness. I want sweeping majesty and gloom and sadness and music that sinks me into a world with windswept cliffs and things

Trayce OTFM! You really should go to WH with Jim.

mullygrubber (gaz), Sunday, 15 February 2004 21:24 (twenty-two years ago)

Yeah, there's nothing ironic wbout Whitehouse. Instead of ducking ridicule with irony, they try to obliterate it with volume and intensity. I hear they can't play in the UK any more, the reaction is so hostile.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 15 February 2004 21:36 (twenty-two years ago)

wow! they had similar problems with the US for a while too..

the surface noise (electricsound), Sunday, 15 February 2004 21:55 (twenty-two years ago)

Hey, this is my impression of a Whitehouse lyric as delivered by a single mum:

GET YOUR ELBOWS OFF THE TABLE, YOU LITTLE P****!!!
YOUR MANNERS ARE A F***ING DISGRACE!!!
PICK UP YOUR F***ING FORK, P****!!!!
SHOW SOME F***ING MANNERS!!!
EAT YOUR BEANS OR WEAR THEM, P****!!!!!

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 22:39 (twenty-two years ago)

have you started drinking yet jim?

mullygrubber (gaz), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 22:39 (twenty-two years ago)

Seriously Jim, start drinking now.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 22:44 (twenty-two years ago)

now?! i've enlisted trayce's help for later but i don't think she'll come to the show..

the surface noise (electricsound), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 22:49 (twenty-two years ago)

well, don't leave it later than say, 4-ish. but now would be better.

Trayce you wuss: don't you feel like having a couple of middle aged geeks yelling insults at you over vile noise?

mullygrubber (gaz), Tuesday, 17 February 2004 22:54 (twenty-two years ago)

I get that here, why would I want to pay for it!? ;P

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 03:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Oh btw Jim, are you sure its cool to meet for drinks today? I dunno if I want to go to the Corner, so if its gonna be a bit outa the way we can make it another time, I'm quite tired as tis...

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 03:14 (twenty-two years ago)

the surface noise (electricsound), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 03:19 (twenty-two years ago)

mullygrubber (gaz), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 03:27 (twenty-two years ago)

I know, I'll write a Whitehouse lyric to encourage you.

WHAT'S THE BLOODY MATTER WITH YOU????

That's a classic line. Is it one of theirs?

The one I have is 'Quality Time'. It's the Albini produced one and is very good, well I like it. Not one of their newer digital ones with rhythms though - it's very analogue, but nicely produced.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 23:34 (twenty-two years ago)

Glad you liked it Jim. I s'pose Trayce never did make it?

Nup :)

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 23:42 (twenty-two years ago)

In fact, I had a lovely relaxing evening making a damn fine chicken curry with some curried spinach puree, rice, and roti bread, I didnt drink a drop and I went to bed at a reasonable hour and slept well.

Mind you, I wouldn't mind going for a quoiet beer somewhere sometime soon...

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 23:44 (twenty-two years ago)

Mmmmm sounds delish.

They've all got something to say about Whitehouse on Mono. Not that I intend to open up any more portals.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 23:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Mono gives me the fear.

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 23:49 (twenty-two years ago)

Am I just being patronising, or are they all a bit thick on Mono?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 18 February 2004 23:54 (twenty-two years ago)

most of them are very thick, yeah. and painfully sceney, especially the ones that protest that they're not.

the surface noise (electricsound), Thursday, 19 February 2004 00:01 (twenty-two years ago)

hey colin we should suggest to WH that they release "Extreme Music from Australia" and both contribute tracks

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 19 February 2004 00:06 (twenty-two years ago)

the surface noise (electricsound), Thursday, 19 February 2004 00:07 (twenty-two years ago)

What a great idea Jim.

ipso, you're in. But we are painfully nerdy here, so that makes you less cool, not more cool as you may have hoped.

I think we should have a Whitehouse lyric writing contest, what do you think?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 19 February 2004 00:09 (twenty-two years ago)

what makes you think I was hoping for cooler?

I don't expect to be leaving the fringe of society any time soon.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Thursday, 19 February 2004 00:13 (twenty-two years ago)

Aren't we all hoping to be cooler? I know I am. That's what makes me so uncool.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 19 February 2004 00:17 (twenty-two years ago)

there's still time! william bennett is cool and he's nearly 50. even if he does look like a cross between bowie and ade edmonson

the surface noise (electricsound), Thursday, 19 February 2004 00:19 (twenty-two years ago)

ahh...so that must make me cool.

although, i did just d/l leader of the gang by gary glitter, so i think i'm back on the outer again.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Thursday, 19 February 2004 00:20 (twenty-two years ago)

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 19 February 2004 02:40 (twenty-two years ago)

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 19 February 2004 02:42 (twenty-two years ago)

hmm i used to own a couple of Feedtime 45s but this was years and years ago, i wouldn't mind hearing some more one of these days. i had the opportunity to buy all this great stuff (including Ear Bitten for $100 and a bundle of M Squared vinyl for $1 each) for years and snooooozed..

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 19 February 2004 06:30 (twenty-two years ago)

fck that picture and caption are funny.

we went and checked out a house for my inlaws today which sums up the aussie male scenario pretty well:

we arrive and the owner is down the backyard shirt off, covered in dry dirt, digging a pit to lay a concrete slab. he finds out my in-laws are from tamworth and straight off launches into a speil about the country music festival and details the pubs of tamworth and his alcoholic activities in said pubs.

them after slight negotiation (ie he seems a good bloke): we'll buy it.

Australians are funny. They are tan. They carry koalas on their backs, and eat eucalyptis. Also, they like to put some "shrimp" on the "barbie" while drinking Beck's, which is Australian lingo for beer, it seems. They are closely related to New Zealanders, who live on another island that is quite similar to Australia, except with no Minogues. Russell Crowe is originally from New Zealand, according to Movieline magazine. Mel Gibson is a native New Yorker, but moved to Australia when he was quite young so that his parents could hunt platypuses. They kept young Mel in a kangaroo's pouch. It was quite an existance on the outback for young Gibson.

I'll bet you like to put some shrimp on the barbie!

My advice to any young Australian writer whose talents have been recognised would be to do steerage, stow away, swim, and seek London, Yankeeland, or Timbuctoo—rather than stay in Australia till his genius turn to gall, or beer. Or, failing this—and still in the interests of human nature and literature—to study elementary anatomy, especially as it applies to the cranium, then shoot himself carefully with the aid of a looking glass.
