Eisbär (llamasfur), Saturday, 15 May 2004 01:38 (twenty-one years ago)

If anyone's drunk at 12.30 in the afternoon I'd be a tad worried, Nedsicle ;)

I think everyone else is passed out from partying or something. I didnt go to Col's gig so I'm awaiting being roundly abused when they all wake up :(

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 15 May 2004 01:38 (twenty-one years ago)

While eating koala tacos, Eisbar.

If anyone's drunk at 12.30 in the afternoon I'd be a tad worried, Nedsicle ;)

But but but you're ruining the stereotypes!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 15 May 2004 01:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Eisbär (llamasfur), Saturday, 15 May 2004 01:39 (twenty-one years ago)

Eisbär (llamasfur), Saturday, 15 May 2004 01:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 15 May 2004 02:11 (twenty-one years ago)

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Saturday, 15 May 2004 02:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Thats why I said I'd not just stick any up :) Tho the one of you is fine, honest! I can pop them in an unlisted dir later if you want to see them (I think I only took a few anyway didnt I?)

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 15 May 2004 02:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Every time I read the thread title I hear the Village People singing "you can't stop the mon-grels! Nobody can stop sheepfux-orrrs!"

ARGH.

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 15 May 2004 02:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Saturday, 15 May 2004 03:18 (twenty-one years ago)

OMG. The dissasociatives are programming Rage tonight... and its all HIPPY MUSIC. Flaming Lips, flamin' Kate Bush, Pink Floyd, Captain Beefheart... weird. I wonder if Mr D Johns will be acting like an acid casualty. Could be fun.

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 15 May 2004 06:59 (twenty-one years ago)

O and theres some itchee songs too ;)

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 15 May 2004 07:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Today has been a complete shocker.

I can't wait to sell this godforsaken place and get on with my life.

If I ever tell you guys i'm getting married again, please shoot me in the face.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Saturday, 15 May 2004 10:43 (twenty-one years ago)

(just a, y'kno, thought)

t\'\'t (t\'\'t), Saturday, 15 May 2004 13:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Well I finally met jim, and lo and behold he was a sweetheart, much as I expected. And he handed over a certain something. A certain something which gave me great pleasure later that night. Can you guess what it was?????

the music mole (colin s barrow), Saturday, 15 May 2004 22:25 (twenty-one years ago)

hmmmmm....there are so many naughty things i could say right now.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Saturday, 15 May 2004 22:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Nedsicles is the wonderfullest nu-word I've seen for some time.

OleM (OleM), Saturday, 15 May 2004 22:35 (twenty-one years ago)

It sure is.

Let me give you a clue ipso - it has something to do with PIGS.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Saturday, 15 May 2004 22:36 (twenty-one years ago)

hmmmmm....there are so many naughty things i could say right now

dyson (dyson), Saturday, 15 May 2004 22:46 (twenty-one years ago)

I wonder if Mr D Johns will be acting like an acid casualty.

Nah, just the dickhead he usually is.

Awesome song list. It's like they ransacked my head and selected a load of my favourite songs, right up to [but not including] Tusk, which is when I went to bed.

Autumn Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Saturday, 15 May 2004 22:49 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah i know what it was colin :)

x-post

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Saturday, 15 May 2004 22:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, Auty, I enjoyed that songlist too (Rage, yes)? The Devo and Beefheart videos especially.

Well, I must say, Pig's Arse was worth the wait. What surprised me was the quality of many of the songs (sorry, Flame Fortune and Mi-Sex), and the relentlessly smooth grooves many of them had, prior to dance music taking over the world. 'Cange in Mood' and 'Send Me An Angel' were camp but delightful, very modern and ethereal in their production - like electroclash, but smoother, and with songs. Also, 'Great Southern Land'... and many others, but I've just heard it once. Also I gave jim 'Sound on Sound' by the Venetians which, by fortuitous good luck, I found in a record shop in Melbourne on Saturday. It's worthy, truly worthy.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Saturday, 15 May 2004 23:09 (twenty-one years ago)

So how was the gig colin?

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Saturday, 15 May 2004 23:13 (twenty-one years ago)

The gig was rockin'! But as feared, Rach lost her voice near the end. Tonight she sings again - but her voice is hoarse and we'll just have to take it steady as she goes. Maybe an abbreviated set, maybe no set, cos we've both heard too many horror stories from vocalists to push it.

"Singing in the 80's" - great start.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Saturday, 15 May 2004 23:15 (twenty-one years ago)

jim's speed with text messaging is outrageous, I was duly impressed. He can type a message almost as quickly as on a keyboard. Also, I was quite enamoured of Melb nitelife, better than Syd.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Saturday, 15 May 2004 23:17 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah i asked him why he used two hands while i was down and he said, "because it's faster". It always takes me about 5 minutes to write one sentence, however I think James is using predictive text which I suppose speeds things up considerably.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Saturday, 15 May 2004 23:20 (twenty-one years ago)

greetings! nice new thread! hows the hangovers? mine went away after a big hit of sugar. last night i celebrated graduation with my family. there was interpretive dancing, "little willy" by the sweet, and pineapple daiquiris.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 16 May 2004 01:11 (twenty-one years ago)

sounds like fun!

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Sunday, 16 May 2004 01:11 (twenty-one years ago)

it was good, but it needed more "into the groove" and ipsofacto.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 16 May 2004 01:13 (twenty-one years ago)

everyone's life needs more ipsofacto!

especially mine.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Sunday, 16 May 2004 01:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Bloody Rage, I missed it! I was all hyped up all day and did loads of housework and stuff, made a lovely mushroom risotto for tea, ate that... and at sbout 10, Nick popped out the room for just a moment, I lay down sideways, and passed out asleep! Slept on the couch like a log til about 1am, then went to bed and slept til 10 this morning. Geez, I must have needed it.

mullygrubber (gaz), Sunday, 16 May 2004 04:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I may do, jim, or I may just make Rach a lemon and ginger tea and look after her.

Gaz, you get the message OK? Don't come tonite. And also, Pig's Arse is the dog's bollocks.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 16 May 2004 04:43 (twenty-one years ago)

i remember taking a sip of my drink and waking up in an alley, feeling slightly sore

the surface noise of psychotic badassery (electricsound), Sunday, 16 May 2004 04:53 (twenty-one years ago)

were there photeys back then Nedsicle?

There actually were a few, yes.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 16 May 2004 04:53 (twenty-one years ago)

mullygrubber (gaz), Sunday, 16 May 2004 05:27 (twenty-one years ago)

the surface noise of psychotic badassery (electricsound), Sunday, 16 May 2004 05:33 (twenty-one years ago)

its always risky for a straight(ish) guy to go to a lesbian night wearing fishnets jim: i salute you!

mullygrubber (gaz), Sunday, 16 May 2004 05:37 (twenty-one years ago)

There's always a highlight - on this occasion there were two highlights. One, Rach getting pissed off with her fishnets and tearing them off; two, her getting trapped in a dyke sandwich at the front of the stage.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 16 May 2004 07:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Haven't listened to Tugboat cd yet jim but looking forward to it. And yo yo yo props to you dog for that compilation. Nedsicle, you're going to love it.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 16 May 2004 07:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh yeah, another highlight. I was talking to jim and this drunk woman comes up to us and says, 'Are you guys fags?' We go 'Are we fans?', and she goes, 'Fags. FAGS. Are you both fags?'

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 16 May 2004 07:36 (twenty-one years ago)

haha for a second there i was scared shitless she wanted to pick us up

the surface noise of psychotic badassery (electricsound), Sunday, 16 May 2004 07:41 (twenty-one years ago)

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 16 May 2004 07:47 (twenty-one years ago)

di doesn't wear glasses! she must be pretty much the only one though

the surface noise of psychotic badassery (electricsound), Sunday, 16 May 2004 07:51 (twenty-one years ago)

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Sunday, 16 May 2004 08:17 (twenty-one years ago)

i wear glasses, less often than i should. but goddam they are so heavy on the face! and you can see people's pimples and shit, ack! i am short sighted.

congrats on graduating, di! it's on to post-grad studies now, yes?

thanks tad! and everyone else for the congrats. it was a postgraduate diploma in music, i've been doing the postgrad thing for some time now :-).

mullygrubber (gaz), Sunday, 16 May 2004 21:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know what you're going through but if it's any consolation I'm really enjoying 'All Day'. You do a sweet vocal harmony, boy. Hehe.

A lot of indie sounds defeated to me, but this sounds full of spirit and spunk. Also, when the rhythms kick in, it really kicks. No shambling jangle for you, eh?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 16 May 2004 22:10 (twenty-one years ago)

'She Doesn't Come Around', 'Love Goes Home...' - classy double act, those two.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 16 May 2004 22:43 (twenty-one years ago)

aww thanks col! wasn't sure if it would be entirely your thing :)

no we tend not to shamble. it is probably to our benefit that the other guys aren't into the same indie schmindie as me so they straighten out my, er, DIY influences a tad

the surface noise of psychotic badassery (electricsound), Sunday, 16 May 2004 22:44 (twenty-one years ago)

'Next Year's Words'... but this is all on the first listen mind, who knows what will pop up and say hello after 5 listens or so? See, that's what I like about albums, it's like getting to know 12 people over a period of time. You have your extraverts, who draw your attention right away, and your introverts who shine once you get to know them.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 16 May 2004 22:47 (twenty-one years ago)

oh that reminds me, col have you ever heard any Lolita Storm?

the surface noise of psychotic badassery (electricsound), Sunday, 16 May 2004 22:51 (twenty-one years ago)

No. Not heard of them/her either.

Ian Johnson (orion), Monday, 17 May 2004 02:02 (twenty-one years ago)

i.e. my friend Joe's fear of his mother stealing his penis, hence (I would theorize) his raging homosexuality.

peacockc on the lawn ??????????????????

mullygrubber (gaz), Monday, 17 May 2004 02:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry, Ive just had a major crisis of confidence in recent times because I've become a bit of a social cripple, I am genuinely finding going out and seeing people a hard thing to do, for all kinds of reasons, and on top of that someone who I thought was a good friend has started hanging out with some dodgy goth bitches I dont like, so I just stopped talking to her and I feel rotten about it seeing as she's about to move overseas... I didnt even get my best friend a birthday present last week :( Im a horrible, crappy friend.

At least Nick still loves me I guess :/

Man, I should just buy a staple gun and nail my hand to my forehead right now shouldnt I?

Adam: you know Ive thought about that, but every time I try meditation I just cant do it. I cant silence my mind. Its too obsessive and full of noise.

I have erm. Issues.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 17 May 2004 02:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Gaz - the woodland/peacock thing's a black books joke, to do with swallowing the Little Book of Calm ;)

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 17 May 2004 02:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Blargh anyway! I said I was calm this week! So I shall shoosh up now. Im fine really :) Just searching round for anchors maybe.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 17 May 2004 02:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Just doesn't say you were Calum this week. I would be distressed.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 17 May 2004 02:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Trayce, there's a fantastic meditation place in Westbury St. Before having lessons there, I was useless at it too. Getting help is the best way to get yer head around meditation.

I've been going through utter, utter hell all this year, and I swear meditation's singlehandedly saved my life/sanity.

Melbourne's getting to you. You're surrounded by artists and you are also an artist. It's making you all nervous.

You should live in Sydney. No-one gives a stuff about art here. Also, you'd be so busy trying to pay the rent you'd have no time for depression.

we have this. it just seems like a struggle to even get my hate on enough to want to read this.

mullygrubber (gaz), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 23:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I think you should go forward with it. Engaging with the material therein is a high priority in respect to furthering the goal of excellence and client service, surely.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 23:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I just made a picture of myself on the computer....hehehe.

cute!

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 23:32 (twenty-one years ago)

While I'm on my frickin' soap box, you know what else shits me? Logging everything. Bloody everything we do has to be logged. Everything. For months and months and months. And none of the logs ever get used by anyone anywhere ever. It's the biggest bloody waste of time.

I Wish You Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 23:32 (twenty-one years ago)

no green beanie?

the surface noise made by people (electricsound), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 23:37 (twenty-one years ago)

no, funny you should say that I actually have it on right now, but didn't include it in the pic.

It's not really a beanie though. I kind of look like some nimbinish reject of sorts. It's more like an old t-shirt tied in a knot at the back.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 23:40 (twenty-one years ago)

adam i have started logging everything. so when the pricks try to stab me in the back in three months time i can go: i don't think so: look!

phot of green nimbin reject tshirt beanie required ipso.

mullygrubber (gaz), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 23:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah, but that's logging for a purpose, which is cool. It's when they get you to take a long-winded description of everything that happens, including time, date, weather conditions, temperature/humidity, UV danger, which planets are in conjunction, and the current mood of Dr Harry Cooper, that it gets ridiculous; as is the way they jump up and down if you miss something.

Six months later, when everyone's forgotten about it and nobody's actually used the logs for anything, it's always fun to remind them how stupid it was to be doing this crap in the first place.

Grrr.

I Wish You Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 19 May 2004 23:59 (twenty-one years ago)

sorry mully, no digital camera :)

maybe i can make you a pixelated drawing of one.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Thursday, 20 May 2004 00:00 (twenty-one years ago)

we are going to introduce performance measures for our performance measures to see if those measures are performing

mullygrubber (gaz), Thursday, 20 May 2004 00:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Performance measures, bleh. If we don't perform, we don't get pay rises or bonuses. If we perform brilliantly, we don't get pay rises or bonuses. And management wonders why nobody's committed anymore.

I Wish You Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 20 May 2004 00:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry, just having a whine. Ignore me if it please ye, guv'na.

I Wish You Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 20 May 2004 00:18 (twenty-one years ago)

no thats fine. only i did say i wasn't gonna whinge any more. you can do it and i'll agree!

mullygrubber (gaz), Thursday, 20 May 2004 00:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha Adam your work sounds a bit like mine, though admittedly any logging we do is usually automated, and needed for audit tracking I guess (otherwise I could just like, go and make myself a 1.5mb DSL link for free and no one would know... hmm theres an idea haha)

I still cant get over our CEO saying "sweat the infrastructure" in that seminar thing. I have visions of beefy sweaty gay men working on a giant spiderweb internet, sort of like those steelworkers in the Simpsons.

EVERYBODEE DANCE NOOWWW!

Now THAT would make work fun.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 20 May 2004 00:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 20 May 2004 00:40 (twenty-one years ago)

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 20 May 2004 00:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Mmmm, Indian. What I wouldn't do RIGHT THIS SECOND for beer and a curry.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 20 May 2004 01:10 (twenty-one years ago)

o no someone sitting near me is eating hot chips o no!

mullygrubber (gaz), Thursday, 20 May 2004 01:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Bastards who do that on trams on the way home should be stomped on. And then they should hand the chips over.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 20 May 2004 02:00 (twenty-one years ago)

take the chips before the stomping, you don't want any to get spilled

Me Rach and SJ had a little club night last night. At SJ's suggestion, we turned out all the lights, lit up some sparklers, cranked up the volume and danced to the Relaxed Muscle album - then Fat Truckers. It only ended when SJ said, 'Can we turn on the lights now, I'm a bit scared'.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 20 May 2004 23:56 (twenty-one years ago)

mullygrubber (gaz), Thursday, 20 May 2004 23:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Dance to silence? You should play him 4"33' and go nuts.

I never realised how close my name was to Ayn Rand. They used to call me Randy Antson or Rancid Andy at school.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Friday, 21 May 2004 00:01 (twenty-one years ago)

That's why I've always craved a normal name like Colin Barrow.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Friday, 21 May 2004 01:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought you said "everybody needs 2.3 friends" and was wondering where you'd made the er, compromise. Guy with a wooden leg? Lady with no ears? That plucky little kid in the wheelchair wot loves chatting with Ray Martin? Quentin. That was him. Whatever happened to that little bastard?

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 21 May 2004 01:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Friday, 21 May 2004 01:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't blame us, Dolce's Italian or summink.

Quentin? He made a series of documentaries for Ten until the Quentin's-all-grown-up-how-cute novelty wore off. That was last year I think. Dunno what he's doing now, probably door-knocking the other networks.

I Wish You Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 21 May 2004 01:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Sadly, Almy, Dolce is Australian, not even Italo-Australian.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Friday, 21 May 2004 02:00 (twenty-one years ago)

He was naturalised last year I think. It used to be on his website.

You'd know this if you read the all-important Joe Dolce Weekly Newsletter, obv.

I Wish You Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 21 May 2004 02:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Col, I wasn't condescending you, it's just amusing to see (a) Dolce has a newsletter; (b) he still has a newsletter, and (c) people actually read it.

I Wish You Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 21 May 2004 03:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Mushroom.

OK, so a cow just told a mushroom she was resigning. What is this, a Syd Barrett song?

OK, so a cow just told a mushroom she was resigning. What is this, a Syd Barrett song?

Waving my cap in the air
love, my love, got no care
no care, no, no, pressing my stem to the ground
stand up right where you stand
call to you and what do you do
laying back in a chair wearing hotpants?
the cow's so high on the air
the cow's so high on the air
half and half, half and half
all you have to do to moo
is hold her hoof, stand a while
and then smile and we'll understand
yes we do - yes, yes we do!
Oh what a cow I've got too!
Oh what a cow I've got too!
with her slinky look she held her tail to her arse
(and I) could see milk everywhere
no-one in the land, no-one
no-one in the land, no-one
but it rains on Saturday - sheep and bison in the way
stormy day, hey, hey
and you shouldn't try to be
what you can't be
and you shouldn't try to be
what you can't be
moo to you and what do you do

WHat kinda networking stuff is it? I know a bit about BGP routing and um.. DNS... not much aboot LANs tho.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 23 May 2004 06:23 (twenty-one years ago)

We have to design a complete LAN, including physical placement and number of servers, wiring cabinets, asymmetric switches [100Mbps and 10Mbps], hubs, bridges, the lot. I have no idea what I'm doing, and the spec tells us nothing. I asked the tutor and he said loads of stuff that was above my heaad, then talked about something else for two hours.

Meh, it's only worth 12%.

You're the Wish You Are I Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Sunday, 23 May 2004 06:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh lordy. That kinda shit gives me the fear. We have 2, count em, 2 pcs here, and because one is xp and one 98 we cant quite get it to network the right way. I mean the pcs talk to each other fine but the access to the net and tcp/ip stuff is flaky at best. Ive no idea what Im doing. When we get dsl and (possibly) a wireless lan Im going to have fun working it out, haha.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 23 May 2004 07:00 (twenty-one years ago)

red wine ahahahaha colin is pissed

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 23 May 2004 07:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Ahahaha, legend.

A bloke I know who lives up the road had to abandon wireless, because he could access someone else's internet connection by mistake, and didn't know who could use his. He actually went up and down the street asking people if they had a wireless thing in their place. He never found out who it was, and didn't know how to configure it to make it secure, so he ended up just not using it at all.

You're the Wish You Are I Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Sunday, 23 May 2004 07:07 (twenty-one years ago)

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 23 May 2004 07:12 (twenty-one years ago)

Au contrare.* I know bugger-all about how to build a network. My diagram's got a server plugged into a bridge which is plugged into another server, which is plugged into three 100Mbps switches, which are plugged into 12 10Mbps switches, which are plugged into loads and loads of workstations. It's the biggest arse network design ever, it doesn't make any sense at all, and it's taken me all weekend. It looks like a kid done it.

Spot on, Gaz. Most of the people I work with are antisocial tools. They'd rather talk about the latest IEEE spec for 10baseT cable than cool normal stuff.

There's a humongous career change just begging to happen. With a bit of luck I can launch myself well out of IT, and into something with people who are moderately intelligent and don't smell of last week's KFC.

You're the Wish You Are I Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Sunday, 23 May 2004 07:37 (twenty-one years ago)

And I totally relate, I'm in IT and want to get out of it and write, but I need to pay my bills somehow :( What a conundrum. Why can't I go live in a shack in the Dandenongs and become T1m Winton? Well, except not so fat and male.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 23 May 2004 07:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Aw, youse guys are so kind.

The bills thing is literally the only reason I'm still working where I am. Over summer I tried to get into proper writing, i.e. novel length, but there's only so much you can do when you're flat out busy; and unlike just about every creatively successful person on the planet, depression doesn't boost my creativity.

You're the Wish You Are I Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Sunday, 23 May 2004 07:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 23 May 2004 08:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow. I've never heard of it but I love the concept. Exams tail off in November so it could be really good timing, and if I'm still at the same job I'll have a couple of weeks' leave owing.

Earlier this year I started a journal, with the intention of forcing myself to write crap and seeing where it would lead. That idea died with everything else once the semester got into gear.

-there are tons of cheap knockoffs of fancy mics doing the rounds these days -you actually get something decent in that range. I got a studio projects B1 for $80 (US) which sounds amazing for the price -their C1 model is a replica of the Neumann U87, which is a v. famous old classic, apparently...

In other news; ow ow owww oWWW. I have been a bad gurl and not wearing my orthotics at all cos they only fit into like one pair of my boots and the paddings all worn off them anyway, and now I'm paying for it - walking thq 15 mins up bridge road this morning took the creaky effort of an arthiritic old lady. My right hip is fucked up, my back is killing me and both ankles are aching. Stupid fucking legs. RARR. And I cant afford to see a phys or podiatrist. Maybe I'll just go get a massage or sommat. Owwie :(

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 24 May 2004 23:40 (twenty-one years ago)

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 24 May 2004 23:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Nasty. :(

For what it's worth, I'm getting proper carbon fibre soles [i.e. not bulky orthotics] made up by a podiatrist. It's costing $600, which is a bloody fortune, but they'll last something like 10 years and are guaranteed to be totally pain-free or I get my money back. Or something.

It's great, they chucked me on a treadmill and did all these standing/rocking tests and things. Really comprehensive.

I dunno adam, I've been thinking about it quite a bit.

I wouldn't say I hang in especially liberal circles and yet nearly everyone I know has either a gay rellie or gay friends or something. Frankly, I think marriage should be done away with altogether but I respect the rights of those who like that bit of paper and a couple of rings symbolising their commitment to each other.

I certainly don't think one group should be excluded from it, you know, if thats what they really want.

I pick up my new soles tomorrow. The old ones are taped up with gaffa tape, so I'm getting about okay, but I can't walk for more than about five minutes without being in pain. So I'm mobile, which is the important thing.

Of more u+k concern is how much this job sucks, and how sick I am of working on assignments nonstop for like about two months now, and how much my brain hurts as a result of everything sucking. Venting momentarily relieves the pain. :)

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 27 May 2004 04:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah. Heaps better than just being told you've got four weeks to go. The uncertainty part can't be doing you any favours though; it sucks when you don't know what's going to happen. Sometimes getting bad news is better than not knowing either way. Dunno if this is helping. :\

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 27 May 2004 04:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Speaking of warnings Adam, indeed - 4 weeks is one thing, the guys on our old smartch*t helpdesk were called in one day and handed their marching orders ON THE SPOT. Werent even allowed to collect their shit from the shiftwork lockers. I mean they got payouts but no one was warned and no one saw it coming. That was a major shock. Im rather glad they care enough to not just turf us out, they know we have a lot of brainstrust in the company they cant afford to lose just yet.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 27 May 2004 04:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow, that's überharsh. Imagine putting all that work into a company that just drops you like that, especially if you actually like being there. Some companies seriously have no soul.

Pack Yr Romantic Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 27 May 2004 04:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Still, I could have my b/fs stress of the small startup not knowing where it's next paypacket is coming from thing, so... its all crap!

Ima become a monk.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 27 May 2004 05:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, they're turds. My company's too tighfisted to retrench us properly, so they just make things harder and harder until we leave of our own accord. The fact that there's nowhere to leave to doesn't seem to concern them. Monk sounds good.

Pack Yr Romantic Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 27 May 2004 05:23 (twenty-one years ago)

after giving a large pecentage of my paycheck for this week's rent to the flat I'm moving into (for two weeks, until the landlord's cockfarming son evicts everyone so he can have a bachelor paid), the psycho hosebeast from the flat I'm escaping turned up at my work & wanted rent for this week as well! what thee fuxx0r? she gave me some half-cocked unlike-every-other-flat-in-the-world-ever rent spiel. I have NO MONEY. I am supposed to be out YESTERDAYISH & I'm only half packed. I have a TWO THOUSAND WORD article to write by the first. the cockfarmers at the flat I'm moving out of (+ two of them who've already jumped ship) owe me FOUR HUNDRED AND FIFTY DOLLARS. I have to look for a new flat with a group of people which have the combined requirements of : rent under 120, cat-friendly + garden, & within a suburb of newton/central city; ie A MAGICAL FLAT POWERED BY RAINBOWS. Our band has a gig in two weeks with two rilly established bands, & we have no songs, no amps/pedals/drumkit, no talent, & no time/space/gear to "practise". I am HUNGOVER, I fucked up my knee dancing last night (& then danced on it for four hours), my random back injury is flaring up again (& I've STILL can't afford to go to the doctor (haha or the dentist - my chipped incisor is probably wafer-thin by now)), I've got some sort of fungal civilisation on my feet & the cream I shelled out for at the chemist does NOTHING. I have NO WAY of getting more money. I can't pay my credit card bill.

grrr argh kill &c.

etc gets his whinge on, Thursday, 27 May 2004 23:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Yipes! hows the bond situation?

mullygrubber (gaz), Thursday, 27 May 2004 23:43 (twenty-one years ago)

well obv. psycho hosebeat's graf artist friend has no money to pay for the bond so I'm fucked that way, tho luckily I don't have to pay bond at the new flat because we're all only there for two weeks, & the guy whose room I'm taking has moved back with his parents (+ is a bloody good mate &c&c&c). I tried to call guy-who-moved-out-who-owes-me-over-$100 but he's not answering his cellphone, he's not working at v3rona today, & I couldn't get through to his-flatmate-that-I-briefly-dated's cellphone either.

etc, Friday, 28 May 2004 00:02 (twenty-one years ago)

you need to go to yer old place, go in to the rooms of the people still there who owe you money, find something of value and pawn it.

they get it back when they give you the money to get it out of pawn.

mullygrubber (gaz), Friday, 28 May 2004 00:11 (twenty-one years ago)

or you take a hostage and barricade yerself in.

mullygrubber (gaz), Friday, 28 May 2004 00:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Do they owe you bond Stevie? if they do, tell 'em to go fuck their "rent" up the arse.

Same thing happened to me. Flatmate left (taking my shag of the time with her, thanks very much DARLING) and refused to pay her last 2 or 3 weeks rent or a bill, despite having said she would earlier. When I asked why, she said "give me back my bond". I couldnt - I didnt have it (my bad). So we just dropped it and she fucked off. Grr. Never living with a woman again.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 28 May 2004 00:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh btw thanks all - yeah I am at work today, I cant take a day off simply cos I'm pissed at the situation cos I cant afford to make myself look bad while trying to jostle for the few new jobs down here that will be on offer (as its either those or the door, I think). Besides, its end of month, and I have leave next week... and if I stayed home I'd only have another panic attack so eff that.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 28 May 2004 00:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Also incidentally none of this is happening til at least NOvember, and knowing the organisation in this place, that probably means March next year, haha. So I'll just save up loads of money.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 28 May 2004 00:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Unless you're holding out for the redundypack of course.

Pack Yr Romantic Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 28 May 2004 00:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Theres so many options and things to do/have to think of, this is whats stressing me. I have to, while still holding down my ussual (busy) job, start writing up training docs and papers and (possibly) spend some time in sydney training the bastards taking our jobs. I also have to try for this new position I want here in the company. I also have to consider work outside the company, but that involves brushing up my long rusted desing/web/writing/wtf ever skills in the 5 seconds of spare time I'll have left. And somehow keep my sanity on top of all this. Ha! Thank christ I have a week off soon... I'll need it.

Trayce (trayce), Friday, 28 May 2004 00:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Amazing innit, how suddenly things can turn on their head.

Roughly 90% of all things that could go wrong, don't. Or something.

Pack Yr Romantic Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 28 May 2004 00:31 (twenty-one years ago)

when're you in sydney Trayce?

mullygrubber (gaz), Friday, 28 May 2004 00:32 (twenty-one years ago)

So, I go looking for a CD to put on while I write this big long paper. Nothing too mentally taxing, just something I can put on while I work.

So I pick up Bela Bartok, I figure it's something I can work with.

What CD do I find inside the case?

Shake ya ass by Mystikal.

I can't work to that!

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Friday, 28 May 2004 01:04 (twenty-one years ago)

That is something you can work with too!

Sami Jylhankangas, Friday, 28 May 2004 01:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Well I can most certainly shake my ass, but it ain't going to help me explain why Australian Art is a reflection of Australia's national identity.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Friday, 28 May 2004 01:28 (twenty-one years ago)

is it though?

mullygrubber (gaz), Friday, 28 May 2004 01:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Well that's what I'm trying to argue, but when a sample group of 100 people in the brisbane CBD still pick shearing the rams by tom roberts as an example of an Australian looking work, I'm starting to think I've got it all wrong.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Friday, 28 May 2004 01:34 (twenty-one years ago)

well you could argue that National identity is only a construct anyway...

mullygrubber (gaz), Friday, 28 May 2004 01:39 (twenty-one years ago)

That's true.

I'm starting to think the topic is too broad anyway. It's due today and i've written about 10% of it. Looks like this one will get handed in late too.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Friday, 28 May 2004 01:42 (twenty-one years ago)

in which case i guess...national identity is a reflection of australian art.

oo-er i feel a deconstructive turn coming on.

mullygrubber (gaz), Friday, 28 May 2004 01:43 (twenty-one years ago)

ah, it's all tying my head in knots.

Sami Jylhankangas, Friday, 28 May 2004 02:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Shopping? No I dislike shopping intently....perhaps I am not a woman at all.

I'm suprised you're familiar with the work of Mystikal. Is he popular in your country?

I thought our summer was starting but then it went back to being cold again. Today it just has no idea what it wants to do! We had an offer accepted for a house this week, so we're starting the house buying process all over again. I am very nervous about the whole thing after it all fell through after 6 months before. *sigh* but i am trying to stay optimistic.

ASP is the devil's language. Does anyone still write in that shit? I had to "learn" it when I was on the Connect helpdesk, as I somehow got landed with "you can be our resident ASP/frontpage expert for troubleshooting trayce, you say you like web design!". Gee thanks, bastards. I never did really get my head around it. We tried to support a plug-in ASPmail code snippet for client websites but unlike the lovely perl mail code for unix we support, it was crap and never worked.

So glad I dont work on helpdesks anymore. And in six months I may not be working anywhere full stop which is a bit bumsy.

Hahaha fark if I waked and baked every day I'd fuckin' never get another job :(

Im trying not to think about it all right now - they say they're going to do everything to re-deply us (which is in their interests, cos then they dont have to pay out a redundancy). A new job would be nice if it paid more. But wtf do I know how to do? Its been too long for web design, thats taken off without me now, compared to people like nick and angelica I am totally useless at photoshop/illustrator, and Ive no discipline in my writing.

I feel like Im staring at, not a fork in the road, but the bloody St Kilda Junction of a fork.

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 29 May 2004 02:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Webs, asps and monitors... those computer people are all spiders, snakes and reptiles.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Saturday, 29 May 2004 02:35 (twenty-one years ago)

The worst bit is it's a group assignment, and the person I'm working with knows the material and has done a lot more than me. So now I've also got the guilt complex, despite the fact that I've put mammoth amounts of time into this bloody assignment.

She had a go at me for not doing enough in the previous assignment, which sucks because she ripped off someone else's code and did the whole thing without telling me, while she knew I was here nutting it out from scratch. I hate people who aren't open and honest. Tell me what's wrong to my face or piss off.

Moral: Don't go back into web design because everyone is shit. But at least you're not on a help desk anymore.

Mermaids were supposed to have long spidery fingers or something such, I think!

the surface noise made by people (electricsound), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 01:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Play leapfrog.

Or frisbee.

Wait, no - fashion it into an ashtray by heating it up in the oven and moulding it over an upturned glass.

Theres always the ol' AOL CD in the microwave trick too (assuming its a cd not vinyl)

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 01:32 (twenty-one years ago)

(actually i wonder if you could make ashtrays out of cds by oven-melting them? Cos that would be the coolest thing ever)

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 01:33 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah except for the hole in the centre

the surface noise made by people (electricsound), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 02:13 (twenty-one years ago)

did wa wa nee have any other good songs, aside from "stimulation"? you know i have the 12" of that.

the surface noise made by people (electricsound), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 02:15 (twenty-one years ago)

the so far unasked yet crucial question jim is why?

mullygrubber (gaz), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 02:19 (twenty-one years ago)

mully: it was $5 and curiosity got the better of me

if this had come out when regurgitator and spiderbait were doing the full-on 80s thing it would have done ok. it sounds a little embarrassing in the context of 2004 though. and it's not even remotely gothy

the surface noise made by people (electricsound), Wednesday, 2 June 2004 02:20 (twenty-one years ago)

phew.

i thought you were gonna tell me andy rantzen produced it.

cheapest or cheapest worth getting? i get spindles of verbatim 48x with the blank printable surface, never get any coasters and they seem to last ok. i do feel more comfortable getting the ones with the darker ink though. $24 for a spindle at JB!

M*no makes ME scratch my head. Jim showed me a thread where everyone was taking the piss out of Br*tt the other night and yeah it was funny but not ILX-funny you know? M*no is ALL injokes, onliners and nothing interesting, it does nothing for me really. Whereas this place grabbed my attention almost immediately with teh funny and teh shouting and yadda yadda.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 3 June 2004 03:56 (twenty-one years ago)

onliners=one liners. I have such a bad headache. No amount of painkillers makes it go away, it is sooo annoying.

Awww sorry to hear it Trayce. You've been in the wars recently.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 3 June 2004 04:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Oddly, the appeal of this place for me [if anyone cares] is the in-jokes, and the up mood and carefree approach. Dunno why. I've never heard of m*n* and don't really want to now. :)

How come sometimes the simplest, most naive, badly recorded music is the best stuff in the world?

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Friday, 4 June 2004 00:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, I ask myself that question all the time.

Ah well at least you responded. I thought I'd be met with the usual deafening silence.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Friday, 4 June 2004 00:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Because it's simple, naïve, and badly recorded.

Big Audio Dynamite's Singapore is like that. Awful, awful production, very dated, and not complex in any way; yet it's compelling. I can't put my finger on the whyness.

Pack Yr Romantic Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 4 June 2004 00:42 (twenty-one years ago)

It's true - lo fi recordings are frequently somehow more fascinating than glossy stuff. It doesn't seem to matter what the genre is. Brought home to me again and again when I hear early house and techno.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Friday, 4 June 2004 00:48 (twenty-one years ago)

mullygrubber (gaz), Friday, 4 June 2004 00:50 (twenty-one years ago)

but its often lofi as a result of the where and how of the music. studiously lofi is almost invariably shit.

mullygrubber (gaz), Friday, 4 June 2004 00:52 (twenty-one years ago)

It's weird. Sometimes I'm a slave to over-the-top production [hi Magoo], and other times I can't stand it.

xpost: Really good so far. It cost about $600 all-up, but I think it's worth it to be walking properly. There's still a bit of pain from getting used to the change, but overall I'd definitely recommend podiatrists over orthotists.

Pack Yr Romantic Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Friday, 4 June 2004 00:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, studiously lo-fi just sounds like retro hifi to me. You can't fake having hardly any gear.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Friday, 4 June 2004 00:53 (twenty-one years ago)

This stuff I'm listening to is some shite CD-R that a couple of girls I'd never met before thrust at me when I was out a couple of weekends ago. It's kind of riot girlish stuff and the guitar playing is incredibly raw, they told me they recorded it using windows sound recorder with a $20 mic (!) but it's kind of the shiteness that makes it good.

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Friday, 4 June 2004 00:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Sounds great!

I heard a recording by Blink-182 style garage band a few weeks ago (those Cali party punk riffs), but with a female singer. the recording was so bad that the vocal was just a distortion mesh on top of the guitars and drums. It sounded unintentionally avant-garde. I liked it.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Friday, 4 June 2004 00:59 (twenty-one years ago)

i think even an aesthetic of lo fi can hamper you regardless of whether it be trying to recreate lo fi stuff with expensive equipment or just loving that sound and using shit equipment to make it... i know i'm making fairly dubious connections here but self consciousness doesn't often produce great results.

mullygrubber (gaz), Friday, 4 June 2004 01:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I love a bit of general roughness or distortion in the mix. I hear it as grain or texture. Glossy music is a bit like glossy food. Nice in very small quantities.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Friday, 4 June 2004 01:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I agree with mully in the long term about self-consciousness, although in the short term I think it can really fire off a career. The general public loves an artfully constructed sound and image, inh the short term, but seems to hate it in the long term. Uh-oh, I feel like I'm starting to want to rant about archetypes - where's my leather muzzle?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Friday, 4 June 2004 01:05 (twenty-one years ago)

The thing is with this band I was talking about (if you can call it that) It's really obvious they weren't trying to sound shit, they just have no expertise regarding recording or even playing their instruments. They seem to just have fun with what they're doing and I guess that's the most compelling thing about it :)

ipsofacto (ipsofacto), Friday, 4 June 2004 01:06 (twenty-one years ago)
