The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 20 June 2004 05:46 (twenty-one years ago)

it sounds like something kath and kim would dream up.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 20 June 2004 05:49 (twenty-one years ago)

hopefully because she realised how much she annoys people and that thus she should not procreate again and had her tubes tied at the same time as they were whipping poor recipe-for-needing-therapy epiphany out of her womb.

She's gorgeous. I want to look like that when I'm 41.

(I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and) Whittle Away My Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Sunday, 20 June 2004 06:13 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm doing OK thanks to painkillers and booze. Yes, I am sick and drinking, I'm a dick.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 20 June 2004 06:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Aw thanks Ned. Yer a darl :)

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 20 June 2004 06:15 (twenty-one years ago)

i quite often drink when i'm sick, it cheers me up and i like to tell myself that it cures whatever ails me. and anyway, you can't distinguish the hangover from the illness. everyone's a winner.

gem (trisk), Sunday, 20 June 2004 06:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Painkillers + booze = magic

I love the book I just read, but I can't admit what it is in case people think I'm some kind of geek for reading Doctor Who novels. Oh whoops.

(I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and) Whittle Away My Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Sunday, 20 June 2004 06:17 (twenty-one years ago)

did it have GIANT MAGGOTS in it?

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 20 June 2004 06:18 (twenty-one years ago)

No! But it had all sorts of awesome Douglas Adams-style stuff going on, and I laughed out loud every second page.

That reminds me to bump the appropriate thread...

(I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and) Whittle Away My Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Sunday, 20 June 2004 06:20 (twenty-one years ago)

hi guys. sorry if any of you were trying to listen to the radio one livestream. i am currently a) feeling like an incompetent idiot for not being able to figure out how to plug in the turntables, which had been so lovingly unplugged by lazy hiphop djs who don't bother to plug them back in again b) pissed off that none of the radio one staff were reachable to give me instructions on plugging the turntables back in, and pissed off that i carried a ton of records down here IN THE MOTHERFUCKING RAIN c) sad because my boyfriend is having a birthday party and i am not there because i don't live in tucson.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 20 June 2004 07:29 (twenty-one years ago)

o no! commiserations. i once did a show where i was so st*ned that i fell asleep and left the station id cart on repeat until someone phoned and laughed at me.

did yer records get wet? i'll listen next time if you promote well in advance!

gaz (gaz), Sunday, 20 June 2004 07:33 (twenty-one years ago)

no my records didn't get wet. i just don't like lugging shit around, especially not in the rain, if nothing is gonna eventuate out of it. i mean if i had a car that goes this wouldn't be a big deal. i will try to promote a show well in advance but it is hard cos i don't have a regular slot yet.

hahahaha you stoner.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 20 June 2004 07:39 (twenty-one years ago)

(I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and) Whittle Away My Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Sunday, 20 June 2004 07:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Also I'm at work, have had a sum total of four hours sleep in the past two nights, almost lost my job the other week (I didn't know that broadband accounts could even have a monthly limit as low as 600mb! oh well, gonna get $600-$1000 taken outta my pay + I've been doing slave labour for thee big boss), can't get my name taken off the bills as my old flats until they're all payed off - all $720 of them. & gotta get a bond together in under a month. Might sell off mosta my ceedees to get to Sonic Youth, tho w/Dizzee Rascal & the Fiery Furnaces coming up I'm a bit flummoxed w/priorities.

Looks like Ned's presence was but fleeting.

Why is it that because I rarely sit down to watch a movie, when I do, it's not in it's case. We bought Eternal sunshine of the spotless mind on DVD last week and now it's not in it's case or the DVD player.

I'm going to have to settle for Plan 9 from outer space...again.

How hot was Bela Lugosi? :)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 21 June 2004 04:37 (twenty-one years ago)

My niceness: SJ said 'I feel like an ornage juice' and I replied 'You don't look like one' which of course is an old old joke but she had hysterics. I was laughing cos she was laughing so much.

what IS boosh? there were moments when i was almost hysterical and even more bits when i was "meh"

gaz (gaz), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 01:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah. My bro rang up to say I should watch it. I looked at it for a while, went meh, then went back to our Hebrew Hammer video, which I also meh'd a fair bit. Was there supposed to be a bit about Gary Numan in it? I missed that.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 02:06 (twenty-one years ago)

I must've liked it cause I'm a goy.

Hey have you noticed how Australia-related threads are proliferating? We are raising awareness of our misunderstood country! We should go for a grant from the tourism board.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 02:17 (twenty-one years ago)

we will need at least $100,000. each.

are 'friends' electricsound? (electricsound), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 02:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I guess knowing it was shot on a tiny budget in 22 days made me forgive some of it's crappier bits. Some of the acting was horrendous, but I'm all for any movie that shows judaism in a positive light that isn't like the film said, yentyl or fiddler on the roof or whatever.

I actually considered converting for a short time to justify my unnatural interest, but learning the torah seems like far too much work.

xx-post

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Tuesday, 22 June 2004 02:19 (twenty-one years ago)

hope so.

in the meantime how are you?

gaz (gaz), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 02:34 (twenty-one years ago)

if my over-publicised departures from ilx are anything to go by, they'll be back.

what do you mean, do you usually make a dramatic announcement about how you're never coming back, getting a life, focussing on work/family/friends/the outdoors? people do this on loads of forums, i love it. they always come back too, which makes it even better. because no one wants them to go!

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 02:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Everyone always comes back. It's internet rule #4.

(I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and) Whittle Away My Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 02:54 (twenty-one years ago)

of course, #4! how could i forget. could you by any chance remind me of rules 1, 2 and 3 again?

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 02:55 (twenty-one years ago)

i am good, gaz! i like feminist theory, and immersing myself in it is liking getting into a hot bubblebath with a glass of champagne. how are you?

what do you mean, do you usually make a dramatic announcement about how you're never coming back, getting a life, focussing on work/family/friends/the outdoors?

no i didn't do any of those things! i just mentioned in an ilx chat that i was leaving and the next thing i knew there was a thread about it. it was too much for my ego to handle, and so i came crawling back, slavering for more of the ilx goodness.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 02:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha! I have never heard feminist theory described as being like that! I doubt it would work for me...not that i find it unpleasant or anything. I've got a kristeva book i've never read, me.

What've y'all been doing anyway?

I went to the gym and now my legs feel super achey and i'm writing a website about my favorite subject...me!

No, not really. It's just a motivational aide I'm working on.

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 04:20 (twenty-one years ago)

how many kilos did you do with your legs?...i am still staggered by the 100 kilo claim.

gaz (gaz), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 04:21 (twenty-one years ago)

yeah 100kgs, it's actually quite easy. See you put the plates on the weightlifting device, I put 50 kgs on each side (one for each leg) and you just sit on your ass and push them up. I do 15 repetitions, holding for three secs each. I learnt how to use the free weights properly too. My instructor reckons I can get down to a size 14 easy in 6 months if I stick at it, and that it one hell of an incentive.

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 04:25 (twenty-one years ago)

Wow. My gym doens't have a donkey, but it does have a thing where you lie on your back and push down. I got up to 130kg on that before the mess that was this year, so I'm back down to 90kg now.

(I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and) Whittle Away My Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 04:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, we've got one of those things too, but I haven't used it yet.

At the moment, I'm trying to familiarise myself with everything and try to use as many different muscles as possible.

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 05:41 (twenty-one years ago)

yay kate is back! chris corpsemolester! how does "lucy lurex" compete with that? she doesn't. she storms off to her bedroom and throws another unsightly tanty. gaz i read somewhere that kristeva considers herself "postfeminist" though a) what she meant by "postfeminist" and what that word has come to mean are probably quite divergent AND b) i should read her and find out for myself.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 07:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Personally, I doubt very much that Chris Corpsemolester wins any fight against Lucy Lurex.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 07:26 (twenty-one years ago)

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 07:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I think some Sadistic Exekution next don't you? And then maybe some Alchemist. The Aussie stuff - never seems to get any coverage here does it?

One of the guys from Sadistic Ex met me on a bus way back in 1989-ish. He objected to me wearing a t-shirt with alchemical symbols when I didn't know what they meant.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 11:31 (twenty-one years ago)

He wouldn't like my artwork then :)

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 11:45 (twenty-one years ago)

You use alchemical symbols too?

I don't think anyone really knows what they mean, not really, that's why alchemy is so mysterious and fascinating. The symbology seems to be very personal and coded. I can see the value in pretending to know what they mean though, in terms of attaining status in an occult setting.

He looked like Tiny Tim. Nice bloke, friendly. He wasn't offensive or anything. I expect he worked in the public service like most black metal afficionados.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 11:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Hmmm...I've used alchemic symbols before, I sort of know what some of them mean I've looked into it a little.

I don't actually have a problem with not being an expert on any of the symbols or languaghes I've used in my work because the point for me if that they are cryptic and mysterious, not the actual meaning behind the words/symbols.

That said, I try to develop some working knowledge of whatever it is I'm using because when I get questioned about it (and I do) I look like a prime wally if i don't know anything at all about the subject.

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 11:51 (twenty-one years ago)

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 11:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Tell them it's esoteric, not for the uninitiated, haha.

Hey Kate, you have to check out this book if you haven't already:

What Painting Is: How to Think About Oil Painting, Using the Language of Alchemy
by James Elkins

http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg/detail/-/0415921139/104-0111675-8384707?v=glance

It's one of the best, most original books about painting I've ever read (I even found it helpful for my music). Elkins argues that artists are, in effect, alchemists in the pre-scinetific sense because they experiment with mixtures and concoctions for their own sake. He also has a wonderful way of getting right up close to a painting to show how the paint and brushstrokes were applied, and what they indicate about the artist.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 11:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Cool, that sounds really interesting and I'm looking for a new book anyhow. Since I've cut down on my net use so much I've become incredibly bored of late.

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 11:57 (twenty-one years ago)

I gave away my copy - funnily enough, to a black metal fan with a passing interest in alchemy - and he just didn't get into it. Never got it back either.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 11:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Goodness, I hate it when that happens.

I always give away my artwork to people and then find out later it's been sitting against a wall or in a box gathering dust for years.

Kind of burns me up, but I guess thats the nature of getting something for nothing eh?

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 12:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Ouch. You can console yourself with the famous story of Van Gogh's doctor using his gift of a painting to repair a chicken coop.

I gues the inspiring message of the Elkins book, over and above the erudition and amazing close-up photography and analysis, is that contrary to what art critics commonly believe, artists proceed without any particular plan or purpose, just mucking about, taking risks, breaking obvious rules which every first year art student knows... it's always so refreshing to remind myself of this, it puts the fun and surprise back into music. I know, we all know this anyway, but we get discouraged from time to time by the weight of public and critical opinion... it's always nice when an academic or teacher has grasped it too, and reminds us....

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 12:06 (twenty-one years ago)

That's true.

Sometimes it seems like when I finally start to value what I do as an artist (and believe me, it's been a long time coming) something or worse still somebody comes along and makes me question all over again why I'm even bothering.

Anyhow, I'm off to bed now.

Sleep tight Colin :)

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 12:09 (twenty-one years ago)

Goodnight!

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 13:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey, I just woke up!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 13:02 (twenty-one years ago)

Good Morning Ned!

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 21:46 (twenty-one years ago)

hello kate and ned! ned i have enough money for my plane ticket!!!!!

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 23:10 (twenty-one years ago)

:-D :-D Hurrah! The Lady Ms Lurex FAP planning begins now! In spirit at least! :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 23:11 (twenty-one years ago)

I hope it's not during christmas time Di, I'm coming to Dunedin to visit you!

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 23:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Morning all. Sleep well?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 23:31 (twenty-one years ago)

hey kate, i'll be back by christmas. are you for real about coming to dunners? that'd be awesome! morning col!

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 23:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, It's pretty cheap to fly to NZ and I need some kind of holiday. I can't think of a better excuse than to drop by and pay you a visit.

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 23:36 (twenty-one years ago)

oh I missed you there colin :)

I slept okay, although it took me ages to get to sleep and I've woken up with some kind of crappy cold or something. Sore throat and blocked nose at any rate.

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 23:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm going shopping for a picnic hamper. I've booked a nice room in a nice hotel, a restaurant overlooking the harbour, and various other nice things.I'm treating R to what my dad has already called 'a dirty weekend'.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 23:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Get well soon K!

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 23:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Xmas in Dunedin would be spiffy, all sunny and summery and late nights!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 23:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, it's nothing serious. I feel 90% rather than 100%. Not too under-the-weather.

Sounds like fun Colin, the last dirty weekend I had was a camping trip in rainy conditions in the north-east victorian snowfields. There was mud everywhere and no rooting.

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 23:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know much at all about NZ, so it'll be fun getting an education.

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 23:51 (twenty-one years ago)

NZ is the land of the kind and good folks who encourage you to buy chocolates. I find this key.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 23:52 (twenty-one years ago)

oh I don't need any encouragement!

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Wednesday, 23 June 2004 23:56 (twenty-one years ago)

When it comes to romance I'm more a city than a country lover. As in the song 'I'll Take Manhattan':

The great big city's a wondrous toy
Just made for a girl and boy.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 24 June 2004 00:04 (twenty-one years ago)

That sounds like a suspect object.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 24 June 2004 00:06 (twenty-one years ago)

The great big city's a suspect object
Just made for a girl and Raggett

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 24 June 2004 00:07 (twenty-one years ago)

First we take manhattan, then we take berlin?

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Thursday, 24 June 2004 00:09 (twenty-one years ago)

First I'll take her in Manhattan
Then I'll take her in Berlin

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 24 June 2004 00:38 (twenty-one years ago)

This excelsior thing is making me uneasy. Maybe James had the right idea after all.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 24 June 2004 01:14 (twenty-one years ago)

That excelsior thing was, I think, a troll. Mark grout must have known the reaction itd garner and if so, he must really have it in for ILX! I think everyone's been stupid getting so mad at each other/leaving the board over something no one woulda even bought...

Still, their loss.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 24 June 2004 01:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Colin, point taken :)

x-post

..also, trayce point taken :)

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Thursday, 24 June 2004 01:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I like Trayce's theory. Sorry K, I didn't mean to contradict your point, which I agree with.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 24 June 2004 01:18 (twenty-one years ago)

I guess I did my usual thing and felt sorry for the perpetrator.

I have this stockholm syndrome thing something chronic.

x-post

don't apologise colin, i think you're right. People are taking it way too seriously.

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Thursday, 24 June 2004 01:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Is today going really slowly for anyone else? I just looked at the clock thinking it was about 3pm and it's only 12.30ish :(

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Thursday, 24 June 2004 01:37 (twenty-one years ago)

nah today is going too quick for me. i don't know about this excelsior thing you're all talking about, but then i don't read much of this board. kate i am going to take you to the inch bar and douse you in monteiths.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Thursday, 24 June 2004 01:48 (twenty-one years ago)

then will you lick it off? :P

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Thursday, 24 June 2004 01:49 (twenty-one years ago)

if we're talking licking, maybe i should douse you in speights old dark ice cream.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Thursday, 24 June 2004 01:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Sounds good. You've sealed the deal!

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Thursday, 24 June 2004 01:52 (twenty-one years ago)

OH BABY

(Um, that was rude of me. *hides*)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 24 June 2004 01:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't think it was rude. Did you think it was rude Di? :)

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Thursday, 24 June 2004 02:00 (twenty-one years ago)

nope! i think we were the ones being rude.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Thursday, 24 June 2004 02:05 (twenty-one years ago)

rude but in a good way.

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Thursday, 24 June 2004 02:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned in pervtastic shockah! hehe ;D

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 24 June 2004 02:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Ohh, just thinking about Ned watching Di and I lick a sticky beer/icecream concoction off each other makes me feel all hot and bothered :)

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Thursday, 24 June 2004 02:09 (twenty-one years ago)

I was joking

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Thursday, 24 June 2004 02:16 (twenty-one years ago)

i laughed!

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Thursday, 24 June 2004 02:18 (twenty-one years ago)

good.

What is good to do in Dunedin Di?

Also, are there many backpacker hostels about?

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Thursday, 24 June 2004 02:22 (twenty-one years ago)

what and where was the excelsior thing?

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 24 June 2004 02:27 (twenty-one years ago)

What is good to do in Dunedin Di?

Well there IS the Cadbury plant.

There is also, more seriously, many places to chat and have a drink, a totally cool OCTAGON in the center of the city, the space age University of Otago library, Michael Morley's fave wine and liquor store, and the tip of the Otago Peninsula where you can go for an ecotour and see baby seals staring up at you winsomely from right where you stand.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 24 June 2004 02:28 (twenty-one years ago)

there are backapckers aplenty. you probably won't need em though, theres room for you in my flat! plenty is good to do. there is drinking at arc and the crown with such esteemed local bands as the futurians and dick the phone to entertain you. there are more art galleries than you could ever want or need, such as the blue oyster and introspect (my personal favourites). we have nice beaches, some of which have seals and penguins. actually theres nature galore here, if you like that sort of thing. y'know, pretty views from green hilltops and such.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Thursday, 24 June 2004 02:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Sounds wonderful.

I've heard there's this ace band called the international telepaths too.

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Thursday, 24 June 2004 02:31 (twenty-one years ago)

never heard of 'em.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Thursday, 24 June 2004 02:33 (twenty-one years ago)

they must be too cool and obscure for the likes of you :)

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Thursday, 24 June 2004 02:39 (twenty-one years ago)

gaz, they're ignoring you.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 24 June 2004 02:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Gaz if you havent seen the excelsior the book thread thus far theres not much point now - its all over bar the shouting. Even momus didnt bother wading in on this one. Bit suprised J0hn D left over it tho (so hes claiming anyway).

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 24 June 2004 02:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm enjoying the Burzum, gaz, though yes it does have a very long tail once it starts to wind down. Posting yours tomorrow.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 24 June 2004 02:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Excelsior the book

I actually had the url sitting on my clipboard for gaz but i forgot to actually post it. Here 'tis I spose.

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Thursday, 24 June 2004 02:56 (twenty-one years ago)

am i getting al*n old*am?

does mark g ever return on that thread?

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 24 June 2004 03:06 (twenty-one years ago)

No, you're not getting Alan. You're getting Vargy boy, the throne wot is dark, and the ones who reckon they ain't never gonna die and look like kiss. I'll do you alan later then.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 24 June 2004 03:20 (twenty-one years ago)

303 posts. Time to give thanks to Roland.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 24 June 2004 03:21 (twenty-one years ago)

What's up with ILX today? It's been invaded by lawyers or something.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 24 June 2004 03:23 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't want the throne wot is dark! i have the throne wot is dark! some misunderstanding here.

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 24 June 2004 03:52 (twenty-one years ago)

you have transilvanian sausage???

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 24 June 2004 03:55 (twenty-one years ago)

jaja i have it. i asked you because i wanted to know if you wanted it because i have it but as you said you have it i didn't give you it but that didn't mean that i wanted you to give me the one you have although i can see how it might

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 24 June 2004 04:17 (twenty-one years ago)

I see. You do realise that this misunderstanding means we are now mortal enemies and one of us must die?

In the meantime, let me send you the other two at least. And then a spot of Alan.

F.U.N.E. Mayhem?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 24 June 2004 04:21 (twenty-one years ago)

i believe we both must die, my friend. ok. sorry if you have now an extra copy. send it to Di!

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 24 June 2004 04:27 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm going to give it to my lawyer friend who's getting into satanism (even more so than being a lawyer automatically entails). He might want to experience it in an intimate setting with his consort, I have suggested to him.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 24 June 2004 04:33 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't reckon Di would like it. Di? Correct me if I'm wrong.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 24 June 2004 04:34 (twenty-one years ago)

a mate has just got satanists moved in next door. should she worry? apparently the chick used to be a big name model.

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 24 June 2004 04:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Sounds like they might throw good parties.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 24 June 2004 04:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I didn't know satan worshippers were so out and proud these days.

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Thursday, 24 June 2004 04:39 (twenty-one years ago)

apparently another neighbour helped her move in this giant sized 666 for the wall.

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 24 June 2004 04:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Hahahaha that is classic.

I think prejudice against satan worship may well be outlawed by certain provisions of the Discrimination Act (1991). You may land yourself in court! Interesting.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 24 June 2004 04:43 (twenty-one years ago)

I have a healthy respect for the occult, not something I especially want to mingle with though.

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Thursday, 24 June 2004 04:44 (twenty-one years ago)

do those provisions apply to christian churches col?

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 24 June 2004 04:45 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey not all satanists are mad Norwegian pyromaniacs yunno.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 24 June 2004 04:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Not many mad Norwegian pyromaniacs are stanists either ;P

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 24 June 2004 04:53 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm a stanist :)

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Thursday, 24 June 2004 04:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, how does one come to worship Stan? Does one need an invitation to one of his parties?

Out there are probably quite a few satanists who are merely trying to put Anton LaVey's eleven principles into practise diligently and humbly. To practise their religion in peace. Or perhaps they are attracted to the rituals: the incense, the meditative worship, and the other things that happen there.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 24 June 2004 04:55 (twenty-one years ago)

hehe

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 24 June 2004 04:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, how does one come to worship Stan? Does one need an invitation to one of his parties?

Or go to his concerts and get invited to share his holy rider. WHICH WAS THE CASE WITH ME.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 24 June 2004 04:56 (twenty-one years ago)

or even the organ music. lotsa people probably got into it through anton's lovely lps.

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 24 June 2004 04:57 (twenty-one years ago)

satanism that is, not stanism.

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 24 June 2004 04:58 (twenty-one years ago)

I read that as anton's lovely lips

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Thursday, 24 June 2004 04:59 (twenty-one years ago)

haha me too

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 24 June 2004 05:00 (twenty-one years ago)

The kiss of evil.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 24 June 2004 05:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Whoa, i just saw some of the new astroboy. Talk about suck, everybody's voice sounds wrong, astroboy sounds like his robot balls have dropped.

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Thursday, 24 June 2004 06:30 (twenty-one years ago)

there's new astroboy? how? where? on abc?

gem (trisk), Thursday, 24 June 2004 06:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah ABC in the afternoon. Its too ... CGIed or somehting. I dont like it much. It lacks the original shows dorky animeness.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 24 June 2004 06:35 (twenty-one years ago)

And when teh fark is new Black Books coming on, Iyarsk yoo. HURRY UP ABC.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 24 June 2004 06:36 (twenty-one years ago)

ooooh but how much are you loving old black books? i'm deliberately not going out on friday so i can watch it. how sad am i...

gem (trisk), Thursday, 24 June 2004 06:38 (twenty-one years ago)

You torking series two? Or is the third series out now?

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Thursday, 24 June 2004 06:41 (twenty-one years ago)

series three has finished in the uk i think

gem (trisk), Thursday, 24 June 2004 06:43 (twenty-one years ago)

ah cool, we have series 1 and 2 on DVD but i've never actually seen it on TV as such.

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Thursday, 24 June 2004 06:44 (twenty-one years ago)

series one is being repeated on friday nights on abc at the moment. i don't have a dvd/video so i hadn't seen it since it was on first. i can't believe how funny it still is. i kack myself at it.

gem (trisk), Thursday, 24 June 2004 06:50 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm going to go watch it now I think.

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Thursday, 24 June 2004 06:52 (twenty-one years ago)

the little book of calm! so funny! and when he puts the post it on his head with "on phone" on it, i've been so tempted to do that at work the last two weeks...

gem (trisk), Thursday, 24 June 2004 06:55 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't know if i would like it, colin. i find your conversations with gaz hard to follow. what is it i might not be liking, exactly?

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Thursday, 24 June 2004 07:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Norwegian black metal, Di.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 24 June 2004 07:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm just getting into it and gaz is sort of humouring me.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 24 June 2004 07:48 (twenty-one years ago)

cos i've been into it for YEEEEEARS man.

(well i heard a bit of it two years ago after i found a shitload of it in a sale bin in hurstville for $1.50 a pop and thought what the hey)(tip btw col...record shop in that shopping complex: cheap stuff quite often)(also i heard metal nights at syd uni frequently hilarious very good)

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 24 June 2004 08:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh yeah, live, the face paint, the silly lyrics, the storming around with long hair - irresistable.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 24 June 2004 08:15 (twenty-one years ago)

this claim is modest mully grubber. And yet it is more than true of course. gaz was present at the beginning of mayhem rehearsals giving accolades and beer to the young wolves.

Sami Jherllkanga, Thursday, 24 June 2004 08:18 (twenty-one years ago)

i reckon i'd like it, colin. but if you've got someone else to send it to, thats cool.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Thursday, 24 June 2004 08:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Now i have problems sleeping tonight becasue - sorry if this is offend - i see Ned watching Di & Kate licking chocolate icecream from each other and still Di is dressed in facepaint as a staunch woman viking

Sami Jherllkangya, Thursday, 24 June 2004 08:27 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm not offended, but i'm concerned for your mental health.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Thursday, 24 June 2004 08:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry guys I had to excelsior that, it was a hoot.

In other news - check out my arm! :D

http://www.memorygongs.com/ow_myarm.jpg

I am so goth.

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 24 June 2004 09:35 (twenty-one years ago)

OWWWWWWW!

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Thursday, 24 June 2004 09:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Meanwhile my crappy PC is still trying to d/l it :)

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Thursday, 24 June 2004 09:38 (twenty-one years ago)

oh my! That's...foul

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Thursday, 24 June 2004 09:41 (twenty-one years ago)

All that from one lil get some blood jab! :/ I never normally have problems... I have no idea why Ive bruised up so damn badly. It still hurts but not so's much I'm worried (ie I dont think Ive gone septic or anything, its all good).

Trayce (trayce), Thursday, 24 June 2004 09:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Madness. Insanity of the arm.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 24 June 2004 10:13 (twenty-one years ago)

OK Di I'll send you something soon. Maybe hear summa your band hey?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 24 June 2004 10:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I wanna hear some int. teles too!

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Thursday, 24 June 2004 10:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Them Int. Teles rock the bee's knees, and are spiffy. Norwegian black metal will make Di giggle in delight at its bizarreness, and then she'll want to create her own NZ Norwegian black metal IN HONOR OF THE SOUTH ISLAND FJORDS. See, it all ties together! It can be a 2 disc concept album about a kakapo with an unholy urge to rock (or should that be 'roque' or 'roxx').

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 24 June 2004 13:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned, this is fiendish.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 24 June 2004 19:55 (twenty-one years ago)

FIENDS!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 24 June 2004 19:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know Di, but I suspect she is not averse to a bit of roque, or even roxx. However my guess is that she never rawks or wocks.

I rock, and sometimes even rrrrrrrrrrrock. However, I have never rawked. On a bad day I do wock, I must admit it. It's part of being English that you wock and woll sometimes, when really you would've preferred to rock and roll.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Thursday, 24 June 2004 20:22 (twenty-one years ago)

good morning all!

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Thursday, 24 June 2004 22:20 (twenty-one years ago)

good morning.

*gets grumpily up off arse and helps someone find a bee gees cd*

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 24 June 2004 22:24 (twenty-one years ago)

I have to say the bee gees are a crap start to any day.

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Thursday, 24 June 2004 22:39 (twenty-one years ago)

kate, i am burning international telepaths cds as we type. would you like a copy? its about time new zealand had a norwegian black metal band, it'd make a nice change from all the nu-metal bands popping up. urrrrrgggggh.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Thursday, 24 June 2004 22:40 (twenty-one years ago)

mememememememe Di! i'll send you a black metal cd in return!

Drink deep of Bacchus's libation my friend.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Friday, 25 June 2004 08:43 (twenty-one years ago)

indeed i will. for today i have battled the beast, comforted the downtrodden and partaken of the sport of men.

also as i was sitting outside the train station a smackie chick asked me for a light, then stood there - eyes closed - swaying. i woke her once - "i've been drinking" she disingenuously muttered - and then again to offer her a seat. whenst 'lo! a smackie thug appeared and was thus to whisk her away saying "you wanna...c'mom you wanna?" but she was stumbling so he dragged her to a nearby seat. she was up quickly, grasping her baggage as if to off and still yet he has her by the arm and is wrestling with her. she begins to complain - she is obviously not enamoured of this gent. he is getting rougher and i - damn! why must it? - raise my voice. he snarls threateningly and yet i remain calm and state the case for his release of the girl. he is violently bemused by my intevention and thus...she slips away.

gaz (gaz), Friday, 25 June 2004 08:51 (twenty-one years ago)

he is violently bemused by my intevention

do you mean he clocked you gaz? how very rough and tumble!

gem (trisk), Friday, 25 June 2004 08:53 (twenty-one years ago)

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Friday, 25 June 2004 08:54 (twenty-one years ago)

courageous? no it was fucking annoying. no he didn't clock me - just stared me out and muttered threats. i was still pumped full of soccer endorphins!

gaz (gaz), Friday, 25 June 2004 08:57 (twenty-one years ago)

well it would've been easier to ignore them is what i'm saying i guess.

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Friday, 25 June 2004 11:28 (twenty-one years ago)

the music mole (colin s barrow), Friday, 25 June 2004 11:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I was thinking that too.

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Friday, 25 June 2004 11:48 (twenty-one years ago)

their music is sooo good though. can't unnerstand how they fucked up otherwise. yeah colin he has some resemblance to you!

gaz (gaz), Friday, 25 June 2004 11:49 (twenty-one years ago)

You can't be serious Gaz, they fail on all counts in the Kate O'Brien credibility test.

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Friday, 25 June 2004 11:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha, he does look a bit like me, ahaha

I'll stick my neck out and say I quite like their music once I get past the preachy/teachy aspect. Strong singers, strong players, quite interesting songs.

Kate, what are the principles of the O'Brien test?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Friday, 25 June 2004 11:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Well I was discussing it with Darren actually while we were watching it.

You can practice any of the following without incurring my harsh criticism;

Vegetarianism
Paganism
Bad lyrics
Sexual Freedom
Simulated menstrual blood drinking
Yelling cunt repeatedly at the top of your voice

But when you start using these things in combination with the other things you automatically get a fail.

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Friday, 25 June 2004 11:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Actually strike that, you can practice sexual freedom and vegetarianism without me shooting withering glances your way, however I think you see what I'm getting at.

The girls seemed to not be keeping it as real as maybe they should be.

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Friday, 25 June 2004 12:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Vegetarianism
Me - no
R - no

Paganism
Me - no
R - hell no

Bad lyrics
Me - yes
R - no

Sexual Freedom
Me - yes, in theory
R - yes, in theory and practise

Simulated menstrual blood drinking
Me - no, except when I'm showing off at a dinner party
R - no

Yelling cunt repeatedly at the top of your voice
Me - no
R - yes, but only in anger

the music mole (colin s barrow), Friday, 25 June 2004 12:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah well then I'm safe. I was starting to worry I'd offended you.

Hell even I fall into some of those categories.

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Friday, 25 June 2004 12:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Of course I'm not offended. It's an excellent test. Gaz, how did you score?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Friday, 25 June 2004 12:07 (twenty-one years ago)

Bad lyrics
Me - yes
R - no

hahaha

gaz (gaz), Friday, 25 June 2004 12:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Score with Kate O'Brien

50 cents a go!

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Friday, 25 June 2004 12:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Vegetarianism

gaz (gaz), Friday, 25 June 2004 12:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Well that's it Gaz, I'm afraid I just can't mix with the likes of you anymore.

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Friday, 25 June 2004 12:16 (twenty-one years ago)

Gaz is a pretentious hippy like I am a blushing Russian princess.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Friday, 25 June 2004 12:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Nice to meet you Tzarina.

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Friday, 25 June 2004 12:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Ugh! Guards, a filthy hippy touched my train!

the music mole (colin s barrow), Friday, 25 June 2004 12:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Show me where the bad man touched you.

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Friday, 25 June 2004 12:23 (twenty-one years ago)

voni has oked my responses kate....this neeeds to be a thread in and of and unto itself!!!!

gaz (gaz), Friday, 25 June 2004 12:23 (twenty-one years ago)

voni must think i'm a mental case.

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Friday, 25 June 2004 12:24 (twenty-one years ago)

do you ok this as a general ile test then?

gaz (gaz), Friday, 25 June 2004 12:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Definitely Kate - we need a special O'Brien test thread.

I went looking for the Rockbitch site but it's down - I found this tribute site but it ends in 2002:

http://homepage.ntlworld.com/mattparker/rockbitch/hostbitch.html

I wonder if they've gone offline or the commune has collapsed or what.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Friday, 25 June 2004 12:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Well you can do it if you want but I have a feeling it'll just get people's backs up and then they'll tell me what a conservative minded fool I am.

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Friday, 25 June 2004 12:27 (twenty-one years ago)

that many chicks living together?

They probably imploding in a ball of firey bitchdom.

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Friday, 25 June 2004 12:28 (twenty-one years ago)

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Friday, 25 June 2004 12:29 (twenty-one years ago)

the calum type?

gaz (gaz), Friday, 25 June 2004 12:33 (twenty-one years ago)

He probably just goes awol for a week every month. I wouldn't blame him.

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Friday, 25 June 2004 12:34 (twenty-one years ago)

Look, they won't take it seriously, they know you're Australian. A few New Yorkers may go, 'Euuuw, too much inforMAAAYtion!'

the music mole (colin s barrow), Friday, 25 June 2004 12:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah I don't really care.

Any ideas about who Kate O'Brien is are entirely out of my control anyhow :)

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Friday, 25 June 2004 12:38 (twenty-one years ago)

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 27 June 2004 10:19 (twenty-one years ago)

Awesome!

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Sunday, 27 June 2004 10:21 (twenty-one years ago)

R is very happy. She will not accuse me of being unromantic again for at least six weeks.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 27 June 2004 10:22 (twenty-one years ago)

rock on!

Never have I been happier for someone elses sex life!

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Sunday, 27 June 2004 10:24 (twenty-one years ago)

My grandmother had a saying:

Make love to your husband every night
And you'll get what you want without a fight.

I would like to propose, in the same spirit, a couplet for men:

Immerse you woman in luxury
And she will put out abundantly.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 27 June 2004 10:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Ah sex...I remember it well.

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Sunday, 27 June 2004 10:48 (twenty-one years ago)

sorry about the radiohead, i had to put the computer on automatic for a few minutes while emmie set up. glad you all liked the show. it was fun! except for the weird people who rang me and emmie up and grunted for several seconds down the line.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 27 June 2004 10:51 (twenty-one years ago)

i have forgotten sex.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Sunday, 27 June 2004 10:52 (twenty-one years ago)

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Sunday, 27 June 2004 22:36 (twenty-one years ago)

my dad - who is 71 - gave me a copy of pink floyds "live at pompeii" on dvd on saturday. apparently mum didn't like it (its not her fave period floyd and its got too much doco material, not enough concert footage apparently). dad, on the oother hand, thought it was good.

gaz (gaz), Sunday, 27 June 2004 22:46 (twenty-one years ago)

We need to swap Dads. I went to my parents place and the weekend and my 58 year old father made me listen to Acker Bilk to the point where I was ready to stomp up and down on the cassette.

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Sunday, 27 June 2004 22:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Count me on on the dad-swapping party. Last album mine bought is a John Williamson.

TISM's new album is disappointing.

my parents think i have terrible taste so they give me things they don't like themselves. last time it was a jeff buckley dvd. "here," they said,"this is atrocious, you might like it"

gaz (gaz), Sunday, 27 June 2004 22:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Ahhhh, well that makes sense then.

My mother buys me clothes, and then she drops glibly into the convo, "oh i actually bought this for myself but it was way too big".

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Sunday, 27 June 2004 22:58 (twenty-one years ago)

gaz, email me your address.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 27 June 2004 23:27 (twenty-one years ago)

the music mole (colin s barrow), Sunday, 27 June 2004 23:28 (twenty-one years ago)

gmail is a wonderful thing colin you never have to felete anything ;)

gaz (gaz), Sunday, 27 June 2004 23:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, so they keep telling me. If you try to delecte anything they say: 'Why? You've got so much memory!!'

Count me on on the dad-swapping party. Last album mine bought is a John Williamson.

Your dad sounds like my dad. Dont get my dad near the beers at Xmas or he'll start hollering "Swing Low Sweet Chariot" really BADLY, also. My family are so much like an ocker Simpsons.

TISM have a new album? TISM are still bothering? Heh.

Hello everyone. I dont track this thread much anymore, I cant keep up and Im not online a lot on weekends (I have a SimCity to play god over). So like, yeah hi.

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 27 June 2004 23:57 (twenty-one years ago)

hi Trayce.

gaz (gaz), Monday, 28 June 2004 00:01 (twenty-one years ago)

my dad loves john williamson, nana mouskouri and demis roussos. long drives were a treat when i was little. especially since we lived 500km from perth. it was a relief to get back to boarding school to escape dad's tape collection.

gem (trisk), Monday, 28 June 2004 00:06 (twenty-one years ago)

by delect I meant 'in delicto'

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 28 June 2004 00:10 (twenty-one years ago)

when i say "Hi Trayce" i mean "high Trayce"

gaz (gaz), Monday, 28 June 2004 00:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I wish!

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 28 June 2004 00:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 28 June 2004 00:14 (twenty-one years ago)

My dad's got you all beat: he likes Bernard Bolan. I had to buy him a CD for his birthday. Check it out:

gaz (gaz), Monday, 28 June 2004 00:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Do you ever read the jokes?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 28 June 2004 00:35 (twenty-one years ago)

no

gaz (gaz), Monday, 28 June 2004 00:37 (twenty-one years ago)

What's his favourite website?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 28 June 2004 00:41 (twenty-one years ago)

HA dadjoke ILE, that's funny

gem (trisk), Monday, 28 June 2004 00:42 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't know what his favourite website is! at the picnic though he had a series of jokes (a bit like larson?) that he'd printed off to keep us laughing.

gaz (gaz), Monday, 28 June 2004 00:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I am back from Carmel and I am relaxed. What's going on here, then?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 28 June 2004 00:53 (twenty-one years ago)

We're talking about dads and their dadlike use of email. I was wanting to extend the conversation into the realm of fave dad sites.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 28 June 2004 01:13 (twenty-one years ago)

start a thread col.

gaz (gaz), Monday, 28 June 2004 01:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Done!

the music mole (colin s barrow), Monday, 28 June 2004 01:26 (twenty-one years ago)

The other day my mum called me all excited because she'd written her first email ever. Knowing a technophobe she is, I was actually quite impressed, until she told me she wrote it on paper and got my dad to type it up for her.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Monday, 28 June 2004 02:00 (twenty-one years ago)

woooooord up! i never got to hear your voice Di! i tuned in but then i had to bathe the kids, play with the kids, get the kids dressed for bed, read to the kids, put the kids to bed, cook dinner, eat dinner.

gaz (gaz), Monday, 28 June 2004 02:03 (twenty-one years ago)

ooops. i actualy got them dressed for bed before i played with them. honest.

gaz (gaz), Monday, 28 June 2004 02:05 (twenty-one years ago)

no worries! parenting is busy business! i'll be on a bit later in the evening next sunday.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Monday, 28 June 2004 02:08 (twenty-one years ago)

Haha Adam!

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 28 June 2004 02:18 (twenty-one years ago)

That is such a classic clueless parent story Adam.

My dad is also still struggling with the concept of email. He's irrationally afraid of viruses.

Colin Mole, Monday, 28 June 2004 02:20 (twenty-one years ago)

Ahahaha. My dad keeps installing spyware, because he's reacting favourably to every window that pops up telling him to install something.

(I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and) Whittle Away My Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 28 June 2004 02:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Advertising was made for people like our dads.

My dad is a hoot. He'll buy stuff he sees on Demtel ads and that stupid "Bright Ideas" "show" (more like 3M commercial). And he's a car sales manager! You'd think he would KNOW better.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 28 June 2004 02:42 (twenty-one years ago)

my dad rings me at least once a fortnight to tell me of some unheard of bargain at WA Salvage he saw in the paper , that i simply MUST buy because i could use it all the time. like a $5 indoor clothesline or $9.95 ugboots. it's very cute.

gem (trisk), Monday, 28 June 2004 02:45 (twenty-one years ago)

My dad doesn't buy that stuff, he's the most sceptical person I know. Too much, in fact. He doesn't trust anything. They bought their first microwave oven ten years ago.

(I'm Gonna Sit Right Down and) Whittle Away My Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Monday, 28 June 2004 02:48 (twenty-one years ago)

my dad is relentlessly reasonable.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 28 June 2004 21:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Ned are you really an LA? I mean no disrepect (and i've certainly worked with LA's who practically ran the joint)...

gaz (gaz), Monday, 28 June 2004 21:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Yup, work in Langson Library Reserves here at UCI.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 28 June 2004 21:44 (twenty-one years ago)

i never think of libraries when i think california - so it does seem a touch "odd".

dyson (dyson), Monday, 28 June 2004 21:48 (twenty-one years ago)

how are LAs viewed there Ned? do you get to do interesting stuff? its good where i am in that they do (or maybe thats bad cos for one of them its just the job he does when he isn't actually living his life, so he wants a bit of down time)

gaz (gaz), Monday, 28 June 2004 21:53 (twenty-one years ago)

It is what it is, I would say. I am responsible for making sure a good chunk of faculty know what they are to do when putting stuff on reserves -- mind you, sometimes I do despair as to how clearly they are willing to listen.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 28 June 2004 21:56 (twenty-one years ago)

haha: they do or don't listen?

gaz (gaz), Monday, 28 June 2004 21:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Precisely. ;-)

gaz (gaz), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 00:23 (twenty-one years ago)

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 04:35 (twenty-one years ago)

i'm fucking staggered and more than slightly paranoid at the mention of Norbert col...i'm just...i'm...what...

HOW DO YOU KNOW ABOUT NORBERT????

Norbert. THE!!!! CASUALTY!!!!!!!!

Yes, indeed. Norby TC.

Ahahahaa!!!!!!!!!

*colin grabs gaz's lapels and pulls him up to his spit-flecked face*

Norby, man! Norby! He's BACK!

He's with me now, as a matter of fact. And he's NOT happy about the things you've been saying about Marit Moll.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 04:45 (twenty-one years ago)

gem (trisk), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 04:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Suggestions:
- Make sure all words are spelled correctly.
- Try different keywords.
- Try more general keywords.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 04:51 (twenty-one years ago)

look THAT was a joke mate but Norby is no joke. I mean - the angels? Please don't tell me you know about the angels.

gaz (gaz), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 04:52 (twenty-one years ago)

look i'm gonna presume this is some ungodly coincidence... but "an open provocation to gaz" keeps ringing in my head.

gaz (gaz), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 04:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Well now Norby might've mentioned something about the angels. It's hard to tell, his jaws kept clenching and unclenching, and he kept laughing that manic laugh, plus he was running all over the house, tering and ripping, tearing and ripping... I wasn't paying much attention though... let me think...

Ah yes. He said - and these were his precise words - that he would MAKE YOU DANCE ON THE HEAD OF A PIN, JUST LIKE THE ANGELS OF BRADFORD IN SUMMER. It didn't mean much to me...or DID IT???

You know, gaz, how he always said to Marit that he would always protect her. And how, for emphasis, he would cut himself with his favourite knife as he said it.

I mean, he's crazy gaz! And he's coming after you! I'm staying right out of it.

People say he's me, some kind of subpersonality, but I don't believe it.

...The angels hit the beach in mufti. People however, could not help but stare. Uriel had donned rollerblades and very little else. His biker shorts did almost nothing to conceal his angelic apparatus, although his wings had at least, somehow, been made invisible. He collected quite a following as he swished up the promenade. Soon a gaggle of muscular boys crowded around him, eyes sliding flirtatiously. None of them had seen the dog. None of them had seen the flipper. None of them had seen the arm, although one boy rolled his eyes, shuffled closer and asked Uriel if he was sure it wasn’t a baby’s arm?...

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 07:39 (twenty-one years ago)

hahaha beautiful Di and gaz.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 10:40 (twenty-one years ago)

...The angels hit the beach in mufti.

Fellini?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 10:50 (twenty-one years ago)

i don't know anything about angels dancing on the head of a pin, but i have an ineplicable addiction to "the Sectret Life of us."

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 11:22 (twenty-one years ago)

mornin all. i have just been in conversation with a bengali guy. he was talking about his physio. his english is good but he told me she uses a vibrator on his backside and i had to bite my tongue.

gaz (gaz), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 21:54 (twenty-one years ago)

Why was there a need for you to forcibly restrain your tongue?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 22:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Secret Life finishes this year.

The Ghost at Number Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 22:25 (twenty-one years ago)

well first he said it wasn't actually his back. it was the side of his back. his backside. also when indians say "finish" they pronounce it "penis". so she used the vibrator and he was soon penised. also i have a juvenile sense of humour and i'm bored.

gaz (gaz), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 22:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Round two to Almy. Ferrchristsakes, the thread was called 'Norbert the Casualty on SBS'.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 23:30 (twenty-one years ago)

wait...almy's isn't in the unanswered q's either...did someone???

gaz (gaz), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 23:31 (twenty-one years ago)

Eh? I didn't do a round 2 thread. I didn't know we'd started round 2 yet.

The Ghost at Number Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 23:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm being beaten hollow anyway. 2/3 - Almy's won. He needs a new challenger.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 23:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Um, I don't even know what you're talking about anymore.

The Ghost at Number Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 23:37 (twenty-one years ago)

i am suggesting Almy's q GOT answered as its not in unanswered qs. there for he needs to post a round 2 follow up. so far col -2, almy -1.

gaz (gaz), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 23:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Argh, you're right.

Thinking thinking...

The Ghost at Number Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 23:44 (twenty-one years ago)

OK, I get it now. But I'd like to see the answered almy thread, where is it?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 23:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh right, there it is. Drop yer fuxorstick, Almy.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 23:47 (twenty-one years ago)

Hang, something's happening at work, I have to pretend to care.

The Ghost at Number Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 23:50 (twenty-one years ago)

hahaha

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 23:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Done. It's not very good.

The Ghost at Number Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 23:55 (twenty-one years ago)

i have a feeling the smartarses aint gonna leave this one alone...

gaz (gaz), Tuesday, 29 June 2004 23:57 (twenty-one years ago)

It's great Almy, maybe too great, as gaz said. This is proving harder than I would've predicted. I wonder if a safer stategy is to go for boring and dumbrather than arcane and specialised.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 00:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Mine's sinking nicely so far. What's yours, Col?

The Ghost at Number Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 00:32 (twenty-one years ago)

cols got rumbled yesterday...i think he could go ahead and post round three though. its nice to have the competition.

gaz (gaz), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 00:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought we were already on round 3.

Is today making sense to anyone else? Like, any part of the whole day? Since I woke up this morning it's been like living in a Neil Gaiman book.

The Ghost at Number Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 00:46 (twenty-one years ago)

welcome to my week almy. i am starting to wonder if people are deliberatley fucking me up.

if it was round three what was your round two submission?

gaz (gaz), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 00:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh, good point.

The Ghost at Number Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 00:56 (twenty-one years ago)

i live in a constant state of confusion, i'm not sure if it's me or the world that doesn't make sense. i tell myself the world is nonsensical.

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 00:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Is today making sense to anyone else?

not to me. too late to bed, too early outta it.

The Lady Ms Lurex (lucylurex), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 01:36 (twenty-one years ago)

I would actually kill entire humans for a Vanilla Coke right now.

The Ghost at Number Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 01:40 (twenty-one years ago)

so you can kill partial humans?

gem (trisk), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 01:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, e.g. gangrene

The Ghost at Number Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 01:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Overheard at lunch: 'It was a Russian movie overdubbed in Italian, with English subtitles. Only on SBS, eh?'

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 01:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Crisis averted. Humans are safe.

I don't overhear anything at lunch, because I don't go to lunch with any of these people, because all they do is talk about work.

The Ghost at Number Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 01:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Your trainspotter thread is sinking like a lead bolt, Almy.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 01:56 (twenty-one years ago)

gaz (gaz), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 04:34 (twenty-one years ago)

You're a bastard Col. I can't find your thread so I can't round it up like a sheepdog.

The Ghost at Number Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 04:36 (twenty-one years ago)

hi, what've you been up to?

I've been getting gossip off the sparky who came to visit.

Apparently the guy in number 16 (across from us) has pentagrams drawn on the carpet and walls. Yay!

x-post

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 04:37 (twenty-one years ago)

gaz (gaz), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 04:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Ahhhhhhh. Right. Now I know what's going on. Cheers Gaz.

The Ghost at Number Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 04:40 (twenty-one years ago)

The guy in number 16 is the creepiest motherfucker to walk the earth. I often try to run him down in my car when I see him in the street. He's scared of Darren too which is good.

Apart from that I've been to the gym every day this week. I'm the amazing shrinking woman!

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 04:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Whoo! So that's why you're no longer 'around'?

The Ghost at Number Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 04:46 (twenty-one years ago)

haha and here i am back in gaiman land

gaz (gaz), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 04:46 (twenty-one years ago)

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 04:47 (twenty-one years ago)

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 04:47 (twenty-one years ago)

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 04:49 (twenty-one years ago)

Nah, you're not in trouble, I'm flattered colin!

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 04:51 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm going to a party tomorrow night. An illegal secret squat party!

Shhhhh...It's a secret

Should I wear camouflage so as not to be detected by THE MAN?

or should I wear I dunno, I have no idea what to wear.

What does one wear to an illegal secret squat party?

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 04:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Illegal secret squats?

The Ghost at Number Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 05:00 (twenty-one years ago)

fluoro clothes and theatre makeup. If you don't have dreadlocks, muss up your hair. Bring a baby if you have one, or a dog.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 05:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I have no hair!

E.S.P (ipsofacto), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 05:02 (twenty-one years ago)

I've never been so bored in all my life. There's no work to do [GOOD], I cbf reading my book, the internet's quiet as buggery, I've applied for every job that exists, my bloody gcc make is taking hours, and I have to arbitrarily sit here for another 15 minutes.

The Ghost at Number Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 06:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Ullo befuxored sheep, mongrel types, and Nedsicle.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 21:37 (twenty-one years ago)

Nedsicle? I FEAR ALREADY.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 21:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought Nedsicle was an old one? I didn't think of it. It's affectionate.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 21:41 (twenty-one years ago)

I know it's old. ;-) I merely fear its reappearance for lo once again I AM TO BE DEVOURED by the Antipodeal anthropophagi.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 21:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Chocks away!

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 23:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Shit! I was going to do Tasmania. Now you've buggered me up.

The Ghost at Number Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 23:02 (twenty-one years ago)

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 23:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Nil confidence. Round 3's yours Col.

The Ghost at Number Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 23:06 (twenty-one years ago)

Fuck.

The Ghost at Number Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 23:07 (twenty-one years ago)

One all.

Three rounds played. What now? Do we do a penalty shoot-out?

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 23:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Incidentally Adam, the responses to your one came faster than I've ever had for one of my serious threads.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 23:15 (twenty-one years ago)

Um, I don't know. Was the first round a draw?

The Ghost at Number Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 23:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Not only did I swiftly lose, I also look a complete pillock.

The Ghost at Number Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 23:26 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, the first round was a draw. Do responses from Aussies count? Cos Trayce just responded to mine, thanks Trayce.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 23:28 (twenty-one years ago)

hahaha come on guys.

round 4.

gaz (gaz), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 23:35 (twenty-one years ago)

so...after 3 rounds its 1-0 to almy?

gaz (gaz), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 23:37 (twenty-one years ago)

I had no idea til I just read this what you guys were up to - bastids!

Trayce (trayce), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 23:42 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't know the rules. I think it's 1-1.

The Ghost at Number Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 23:42 (twenty-one years ago)

Yes, one to Adam, one to me.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 23:42 (twenty-one years ago)

what was the col thread that never got answered?

gaz (gaz), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 23:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Hang on, is it vanishing from the main page that gains a point? Or is it first to get a response loses the round?

The Ghost at Number Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 23:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, that's the one Trayce answered - but she doesn't count cos she's a sheepfuxor. According to my rules which I just created.

Ok we need to sort this one out - is it whoever's gets answered first or must they remain unanswered and if so for how long?

They're loving that penguin thread. Jeez Almy, what a spectacular misjudgement.

Hi Trayce!

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 23:44 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought it was first to get answered loses [going by time stamp], and if both threads disappear it's one point each.

The Ghost at Number Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 23:46 (twenty-one years ago)

ok, almy's rules seem fair. obv the threads must be posted at approx the same time though!

gaz (gaz), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 23:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Nah, because you can base it on time stamps.

The Ghost at Number Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 23:59 (twenty-one years ago)

Er, should we start again then? :)

The Ghost at Number Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Wednesday, 30 June 2004 23:59 (twenty-one years ago)

i think almy has a winner in mind...

GO!

gaz (gaz), Thursday, 1 July 2004 00:03 (twenty-one years ago)

The Ghost at Number Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 1 July 2004 00:06 (twenty-one years ago)

It's been nice knowing you all and you know my email address if you need it.

The Ghost at Number Almanac (Autumn Almanac), Thursday, 1 July 2004 00:48 (twenty-one years ago)

Fuckin' Hell Kate! Stay here and ignore that Indie Manchild Fuxor! Don't leave! Too many people are bailing out. People shouldn't leave because a few unmedicated dicks are making things dramatic for everyone!
