Sir Kingfish Beavis D'Azzmonch (Kingfish), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 17:15 (twenty years ago)

I just got a package of Spongebob Twinkies! And a VHS of the new trailer!

Huk-L, Tuesday, 12 October 2004 17:19 (twenty years ago)

I need a nephew or something.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 12 October 2004 17:21 (twenty years ago)

It'll be all 20 or 30 somethings at the Spongebob film, surely??

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 17:23 (twenty years ago)

I've always wondered, what are twinkies?

jel -- (jel), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 17:24 (twenty years ago)

Maybe I could be a Big Brother!
OMG Twinkies are gross!

Huk-L, Tuesday, 12 October 2004 17:24 (twenty years ago)

So anyways, talking about schedules at work, I think I've figured out that I have to avoid ILX first thing in the morning. Morning is when I have the most energy and get the most stuff done, but if I get on ILX right away I end up spending like 3 hours just ILXing and using up my precious morning energy. So my new plan is to save ILXing for the afternoon.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 17:25 (twenty years ago)

They're yellow spongecake (hence the tie-in) with some sort of cream-like filling.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 12 October 2004 17:26 (twenty years ago)

Now I want a twinkie.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 17:26 (twenty years ago)

You bastard!

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 17:26 (twenty years ago)

I got a whole box!

Huk-L, Tuesday, 12 October 2004 17:27 (twenty years ago)

Choosy women choose Zest! or is it Crest? Or is it twinkies?

aimurchie, Tuesday, 12 October 2004 17:28 (twenty years ago)

Twinkies aren't vegetarian because they contain, get this, BEEF FAT.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 17:29 (twenty years ago)

I could fight crime!

Huk-L, Tuesday, 12 October 2004 17:30 (twenty years ago)

ILX kills the rest of the morning for me when I need it (as I have to do a lot of stuff first in my work day).

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 17:31 (twenty years ago)

and fight creme, too!

Sir Kingfish Beavis D'Azzmonch (Kingfish), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 17:31 (twenty years ago)

Ach!
Choking on golden sponginess!

Huk-L, Tuesday, 12 October 2004 17:32 (twenty years ago)

BEEF FAT!

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 17:33 (twenty years ago)

Nothing says "dessert cake" like BEEF FAT.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 17:34 (twenty years ago)

When I was little I wasn't allowed hostess products because of the BEEF FAT, and all the chemicals too. (My veggie hippie parents said so) So when I got to junior high and could buy food at the snack stand I gorged myself on those cupcakes. Now the sight of them makes me fairly quesy.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 17:37 (twenty years ago)

I still want a twinkie, beef fat or no.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 17:40 (twenty years ago)

You bastards!

and the Twinkie FAQ...

Sir Kingfish Beavis D'Azzmonch (Kingfish), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 17:42 (twenty years ago)

The other day there was a sign that read "We now have lo-carbs products" in front of the Hostess Thrift Shop Bakery Outlet.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 17:44 (twenty years ago)

but were they FOIL-WRAPPED?

Sir Kingfish Beavis D'Azzmonch (Kingfish), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 17:45 (twenty years ago)

The greatest thing about Twinkies is that THEY'RE SICKENINGLY SWEET! Especially after the THIRD ONE!
Which I only ate, because Luna can't be here to eat it.
I could put it in the mail.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 12 October 2004 17:46 (twenty years ago)

Someone needs to stop me.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 12 October 2004 17:47 (twenty years ago)

MAIL ME A TWINKIE.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 17:47 (twenty years ago)

I too gorged because the tasty snacks were the forbidden fruit ! Ho Hos, Ding Dongs, Devil Dogs, even the weird Sno Cakes - right down the gullet! Followed by Charleston Chew, Kit kat, Milky Way and a bottle of Dr. Pepper.
But never, for some reason, twinkies.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 12 October 2004 17:49 (twenty years ago)

This coworker gave me a LOW CARB chocolate candy the other day. I looked at the 'nutritional' info. I said, "Um, this is really high in fat." She replied, "You can't go both LOW carb and LOW fat - it's really unhealthy." But I pointed out the fat content per serving: 130 fat calories! And these are teeny tiny pieces! And she was like, "Um, yeah, that's a lot."

< / end stupid story >

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 17:49 (twenty years ago)

Also, I thought it was funny when I walked by Burger King the other day and they had a big sign in the window about their new Low Carb menu. Who goes to BK who wants to be healthy?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 17:51 (twenty years ago)

I peeled the Spongebob sticker off the last Twinkie, the one I'm going to mail to Luna (sorry, I ruined all the stickers by waiting until after I'd opened the package to pull them off), and the date on the cellophane says OCT 15. I don't know what that means!
Is it getting really warm in here?

Huk-L, Tuesday, 12 October 2004 17:53 (twenty years ago)

Twinkies don't go bad. Like, ever.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 17:58 (twenty years ago)

Only because "going bad" indicates that they began as something other than bad.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 12 October 2004 18:01 (twenty years ago)

Good point. There is no clear way for me to win this argument, so I'll go back to pining for a Twinkie.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 18:08 (twenty years ago)

I first had twinkies on my first night in the US. Staying in a dodgy hotel in Chinatown, I walked up The Bowery until I came to a (what do Americans call a corner shop, a grocer, a newsagent?). It sold twinkies. They were to be my dinner. They were pretty horrible, if only because biting into one, my teeth started giving off a high pitched note.

BUT I ATE A TWINKIE. This was one of the most urgent & key things I've ever done.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 19:12 (twenty years ago)

After all the comic ads, I had to try a Twinkie my first time in the States too. It appeared to belong in the bathroom: you could wash yourself with the sponge, and use the filling as shaving cream. My impression was that this would be a better use than eating the horrible things.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 19:18 (twenty years ago)

During my last year of High School, I was into having personality quirks, because I was a giant nerd. I used to carry Hostess Fruit Pies around. "Just in case the robots turn against us."
What a pretentious dick I was. No wonder I'm a lonely and miserable jackass now.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 12 October 2004 19:25 (twenty years ago)

Huck, I always have a problem equating the sweet and funny person with the depressive self-deprecator. What's up, G?

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 19:26 (twenty years ago)

I just got a really annoying email from some dude telling me that the project I'm doing for him (WHICH IS HIS JOB, BTW) is being done "wrong" and if I would please "make it more clear." The best part? He called me Karen in the e-mail. He gets a big fat "Eat My FCKK" sandwich.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 19:33 (twenty years ago)

You could do like Patrick (American Psycho) Bateman and use this coworker's arrogance regarding your name and role to lure him to a grisly death.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 12 October 2004 20:03 (twenty years ago)

And just before you deliver the final blow, you can tell him: "You have to understand..."

Huk-L, Tuesday, 12 October 2004 20:04 (twenty years ago)

When I was at the boardwalk this summer, I had a deep-fried Oreo (only one bite, though, because a whole thing would have made me ill). I could have tried a deep-fried Twinkie, but I wanted the Oreo. It tasted like a chocolate zeppoli.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 20:12 (twenty years ago)

Incidentally, "twinkie" is such a fun little word. I can't stop saying it in my head. Twinkie twinkie twinkie twink-ee. Hee hee. TWINKIE. eeheeeheeheee (I'm obviously beyond insanity.)

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 20:17 (twenty years ago)

It's up there with 'cooter' on the list of fun words to say.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 20:48 (twenty years ago)

Hucklebuck, don't be hard on yourself. Just consider this: Rilke used to ostentatiously carry a red rose through the streets in his youth. And he turned out OK.

If I do not have a twinkie, I will die.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 21:16 (twenty years ago)

I have never encountered a Twinkie. I first read about them in Archie comics, where the characters would advertise them. Since them I have always craved this special treat from your country. Yet they have not arrived in the special 'USA' section of our supermarket. Yes, we have the peanut butter fetishist stuff, and the Oreos and the Babe Ruth thingies (you Americans just don't get how to make chocolate do you?), but sadly no Twinkies!

A friend of mine came back from the US with every sugary product ever placed on Seinfeld. Drake's Coffee Cakes! Utterly vile.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 21:19 (twenty years ago)

Twinkies are revolting. I'd be happy to send you some.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 21:20 (twenty years ago)

(Mark: In NYC, they're called "bodegas". I'm trying to introduce this word to Portland, but they are resistant -- that, and we don't really have any bodegas...)

This Twinkie love is astonishing.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 12 October 2004 21:45 (twenty years ago)

Sir Kingfish Beavis D'Azzmonch (Kingfish), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 01:50 (twenty years ago)

In Perth, Australia, the term 'twinkie' was applied by girls to other girls in the, erm, rave community, to imply they were cute but empty headed and over-obsessed with boy ravers: "Uh! She's such a twinkie!'.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 01:59 (twenty years ago)

Hi guys!

Remy (x Jeremy), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 02:02 (twenty years ago)

Hey Jeremy! I have no idea how to handle a day like today. Today was marked by an overflow of activity and excitement and I feel like I was ultimately a total participant it at the same time that I was completely left out from everything. I mean, the signals I have been receiving all day today have been ones I'm not accustomed to, haven't ever really experienced before in my life, and I think it's all so... odd.

Twinkies are odd, too, but so delicious when they're really, really fresh. I can't have Twinkies that are like a week old, because that's when you notice just how much sugar they put into the sponge cake batter and that the cream filling doesn't really taste like it's made from cream. (I wish they'd alter the filling recipe, BTW. At least to substitute shortening for the lard they use and to put a tiny little bit less sugar in the cake batter.)

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 02:49 (twenty years ago)

(Sorry for the awkward first paragraph-ish thingy, BTW. I didn't mean to address just Jeremy, though he/you is/are a total part of the whole audience I *am* addressing.)

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 02:51 (twenty years ago)

Home made twinkies with fresh cream would appear to be the way to go.

the music mole (colin s barrow), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 02:53 (twenty years ago)

Oh yeah, that would be AWESOME. I seriously doubt real whipped cream would ever appear in the actual regular Twinkie product itself, because of the need for the people who manufacture Twinkies to create a shelf-stable product, so yeah, homemade would seem to be the best way to go.

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 02:59 (twenty years ago)

(Crap. Now *I* want Twinkies now. Darn you all to heck!)

"Reach up for the sunrise, put your hands into the big sky/You can touch the sunrise, feel the new day enter your life..."

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 03:02 (twenty years ago)

EcstaticFanatic, who posted on this thread on a Prince fan forum, is SO me. [S]he puts into words EXACTLY what I have been feeling for a VERY long time. I will endeavor to post this both here and on a relevant forum on ILM (ooh):

I sort of get the feeling that their last two or so CDs as a trio (LeBon, Rhodes, Cuccurolo) sort of had them as dusty shelved musicians still doing credible work.

Like, before they even reunited, I would mention them and people would be like "They're still alive?"

Pop Trash, I enjoyed, but no mention of it was ever made to the public, aside from some local paper music reviews. My friends and I, who only started getting into them after buying that record for novelty, thought that they were pretty much tastefully washed up, and the back cover photo of Pop Trash was a display of how they've grown obscure, but still enjoy themselves.

I also picked up Medazzaland, and that's one of my favorite albums of all time. The content gets a little Depeche-Modey, in talking about obsession, suicide, etc in tracks like "Be My Icon" and "So Long Suicide". And then some of the tracks were just sci-fi beauty ("Midnight Sun", "Silva Halo")

So basically, I imagined Duran Duran would continue on as "tastefully aged" shelved musicians playing the "Big Fish on a Small Record Label" card.

Then they ditched poor Warren Cuccurolo, who actually found out about the Fab Five Reunion off the INTERNET, being the last to know. I'm sure he wasn't too pleased with that.

So now that they're back, people are acting like they never went anywhere. For like, three years people around town have looked at me funny and asked if I was sure Duran Duran were still making music. Now they're like "OH THE FAB FIVE HAVE A NEW ALBUM!" and suddenly they have public exposure in the media they weren't given since probably the Wedding Album.

I'm sorry, I just had to vent. I feel like the episode of Doug where a 90210 rip-off show makes the outfit he wears everyday popular, so everyone wears it. And when the trend dies, he gets mocked for still wearing it. Except, the other way around.

Whatever.

I *heart* EcstaticFanatic. Much like I *heart* my Voice of Reason. You know who you are. I'm getting to you-know-what ASAP.

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 03:11 (twenty years ago)

Dee, the "signals you've been receiving all day"? Are you gonna be more vague or do you want to tell us about him?

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 03:29 (twenty years ago)

"Him"? Ha ha ha. Oh I WISH it were up to a "him"!! No no no, this is all due to fannish-related activity, what with this whole media blitz thing suddenly coming into my awareness, and I'm so not used to any of this, really. Maybe some of it, spread out over time, but damn, I saw an advertisement for the new album while watching a rerun of "Queer Eye" tonight and I am so not used to that.

My life is so totally cut-and-dried so very often and I'm so used to every day being completely predictable and pedestrian that whenever anything happens that actually adds a little bit of excitement in my life, even if it's pathetically fannish in nature, it gets to be rather difficult for me to get accustomed to.

(Sad, sad, sad, sad, sad. *wink*)

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 03:36 (twenty years ago)

How much excitement do you want in your life?

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 03:37 (twenty years ago)

Ahh, I think I know where you're going with this, Mr. Minor Thirds dude. ;) But really, I love that there's all these things to look forward to now, and this is the kind of thing I think I could feel happy getting used to.

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 03:40 (twenty years ago)

I absolutely hate work today, I just thought y'all should know.
Luna, I hope things improve for you soon hun, good thoughts & wishes are on the way across the ocean! x
Has anyone heard from Sam recently?
I am meeting my mum & dad for lunch tomorrow which I am really looking forward to. She has to go to the hospital in the morning to have a final checkup before going in for surgery next week. I am getting slightly anxious about the whole thing, but my mum (as ever) is remaining extremely positive about things. I am so proud of her.

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 08:32 (twenty years ago)

Oh & archel, did you survive yesterday?

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 08:34 (twenty years ago)

I need to make myself an Autumn soundtrack mix. I thought about it last night and got stuck. Something I can look at leaves with and wear scarves.

Also, in the hostess/drakes little cakes debate FUNNY BONES is where its at bitches.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 11:04 (twenty years ago)

Not sure what the second part of your post is about, but the first is indeed a top idea!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 11:05 (twenty years ago)

they were talking about twinkies above. i hate twinkies. deadly spongy penises.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 11:15 (twenty years ago)

whats good autumn music...all i can think of so far is:

Nick Drake
Simon and Garfunkel
Innocence Mission
Hem
Archer Prewitt
Eva Cassidy

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 11:16 (twenty years ago)

Nike Drake & Simon & Garfunkel definitely.

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 11:24 (twenty years ago)

Joni Mitchell is autumn music to me.

Good aftenoon, chums. I got a piece of work off my desk this morning that's been nagging me fopr three weeks, and I hopefully will find out in the next day or so whether it's good (in which case I will be overjoyed) or not good (in which case I'll put it down to experience as it was a learning thing anyway). But it's done.

I wish my nearness to Mr Le Bon could provide Dee with more exciting info, but he really doesn't seem to do very much exciting most of the time. Like the rest of us, I suppose. Did I mention I dated a girl who went out with Wes and Warren? I did, I think.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 11:52 (twenty years ago)

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 11:55 (twenty years ago)

Oh & dee, did I mention how lovely you are?!! :-)

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 11:55 (twenty years ago)

recommend me some Joni, Mark.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 11:57 (twenty years ago)

"Blue" is the traditional album recommendation, and a worthy one, though some swear by "Hejira". If you just want a couple of songs to download, my favourites are "California" and "Carey", I think.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 12:02 (twenty years ago)

DL "Carey" the other night. Cool thanks.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 12:02 (twenty years ago)

I played PacMan with Simon LeBon. I had backstage passes when they played Madison Square Garden back in the paleolithic era (the eighties). We did not indulge in any twinkies. My friend just had twins and she calls them twinkies. Funny bones kick ass - and are becoming increasingly difficult to find. Is nostalgia a fetish?

aimurchie, Wednesday, 13 October 2004 12:11 (twenty years ago)

I wish I could put some parts of my life on hold & speed up other parts. Now wouldn't that be useful!

YES YES YES.

"twinkie" is apparently a derogatory racial term. i didn't know that until this weekend, talking to a friend who's biologically asian (oriental), but was adopted and raised in a white community. she was making fun of herself with this term and explained that it meant an asian person who acted white. uh, okay.

i wasn't allowed much junk food in my own house as a little kid and discovered twinkies when visiting a friend. i thought they were amazing. they really are disgusting, though, once you're past the age of 12 or so.

zest makes me think of lemon or orange zest in recipes--i used to love to make lemon poppyseed cake, in a bundt pan, with thin frosting drizzled atop....yum.

and hello all. yesterday was really kind of hellish and seemed kind of hopeless and very sad, but then i talked to some friends, and that just...helped. my health sucks, it might for a long time, but i already knew this doc i saw yesterday had nothing to offer (oh how i hate being so right in my cynicism). but there's always hope, though my life seems to take far too much patience sometimes. grr. but yay hope, yay friends, etc.

i get dvd box sets from my library (yes my library rocks), and the last time they'd thrown in 24, saying that they thought i might like it. i'd seen a few eps here and there, but wasn't able to really keep track of things. seeing it from the beginning....i'm addicted. why are fun-action-tv-show heroes so frequently named jack lately?

also, yay, wednesday is the night for the tv show lost! i am waaay too dependent on tv, but hey, it's fun.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 12:33 (twenty years ago)

"my health sucks, it might for a long time, but i already knew this doc i saw yesterday had nothing to offer "

May I ask what is going on? I don't want to seem rude. I hope you are feeling well within all of the love and support you are getting from friends.

aimurchie, Wednesday, 13 October 2004 12:47 (twenty years ago)

I want an autumn mix too! I would also recommend:

* The Softies
* The Shins
* The Zombies
* Wilco
* Neil Young
* Elliot Smith
* Big Star
* The Monkees (their prettier stuff)
* Nico
* Animal Collective

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 13:02 (twenty years ago)

Yes, the newer Animal Collective album, Sung Tongs, is my album of this autumn, and the even newer solo album by one of their members, Panda Bear, called Young Prayer, is also autumnal, though kind of depressing. The Microphones always seem autumnal to me as well. I made an autumn playlist for my iPod this morning, and I put some MINOR THIRDS on there, but then I didn't feel like listening to it on my way in, so I, uh, didn't.
Julia, Sarah and I still need to come out there and visit sometime. You need to post more on ILX, your presence is missed. By me.
So last night I got a headache, probably from watching too much TV, and when I went to bed I still had the headache. Then I woke up about 2:30 this morning and my head was throbbing. I got up, took some ibuprofen, and laid on the couch until my head felt close enough to better for me to fall asleep. Then I woke this morning and I STILL have a lingering headache, mostly in my neck. I just took more Tylenol. Ugh. This seems to happening a lot more recently.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 13:10 (twenty years ago)

OK, it's official, students have broken my brain. I can hardly even see, I'm so tired.

As you were.

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 13:11 (twenty years ago)

I have to say that sitting on a toilet seat & discovering that it is warm, is the most horrible thing evah!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 13:14 (twenty years ago)

I have a bit of a fear of public toilets. I tend to wait until I'm all the way out of the stall to flush them because I'm scared they'll be super powerful and splash water on me. Yuck!

And yes, Julia A, I miss you too!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 13:24 (twenty years ago)

I miss Julia too, we all do. Come back more and bring pie!

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 13:29 (twenty years ago)

That's pretty gross. Er, about the toilet seat, not Julia's pie. Er.

I went to my new neighbourhood laundr-o-mat last night. It has shitty video games, like Tetris, Ms. Pac-Man, and Galaga. But it's not really, I don't know, an ironic sort of place, so the games are just there because they owner is a cheap fuck. Galaga sucks. It's the reason my clothes are still wet.

Huk-L, Wednesday, 13 October 2004 13:32 (twenty years ago)

We had a Sara Lee frozen pumpkin pie last night. Well, kind of. I put it in at 7:30 and was like, this is great, it takes an hour to cook, we can eat it at 9:00 when we watch Law & Order: SVU. But I had missed the "Let pie cool for 2 hours before eating" instruction. We ended up eating some for breakfast this morning.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 13:32 (twenty years ago)

You are mad, Huk. Ms. PacMan and Tetris are two of the best games EVER.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 13:34 (twenty years ago)

nah, just poke a few holes in it and let it sit by an open window for a few minutes

xpost

kephm (kephm), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 13:35 (twenty years ago)

What could possibly be wrong with that laundromat huck, it sounds ace!
mmm pumpking pie. Now which one of you lovely americanos are gonna bake me a pumpkin pie?!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 13:35 (twenty years ago)

That's what I meant! It's a big step up from the last one, which just had a bunch of washers and dryers. This one even has a comfortable place to sit. And it's cheaper!
The other place was next door to a grocery store though, so I could do two things at once. Though I guess mastering Tetris counts towards two things. The other being getting my laundry done.
I had four large pieces of pumpkin on Monday.

Huk-L, Wednesday, 13 October 2004 13:38 (twenty years ago)

Galaga in "Is Addictive" shocka!

I spent the best of my afternoon yesterday trying to get in touch with this guy on Craigslist with a monitor for sale for $50. "Anytime after 5," he said. Around 8, I called him a third time and finally got him on the phone. Anyway, the monitor is a *monster* -- 21 inches of Phillips Billiance, almost too heavy for me to carry by myself up the stairs. Going from a 17" to this is almost surreal. Everything is So Big. And clear, and no faded spots in the monitor, and just in perfect condition. I do a happy dance for my large, large monitor, which will surely make up for some of my other perceived inadequacies.

Smokin' funk by the boxes (kenan), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 13:38 (twenty years ago)

tell me songs by those bands so i can put on cd, now!

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 13:39 (twenty years ago)

Some good Animal Collective songs: Leaf House, Who Could Win a Rabbit, Winters Love, Kids on Holiday.
The Panda Bear songs don't have names and basically all sound the same.
Some good Microphones songs: The Pull, I Want the Wind to Blow, Headless Horseman, The Glow.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 13:54 (twenty years ago)

Kenan, I did the same, but from a crappy 15" to a massive 21". It is SO MUCH BETTER, it satisfies in ways I could never have imagined.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 13:57 (twenty years ago)

Ha ha, But it's a Thread where you say whatever the hell you feel like saying! :-D

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 14:12 (twenty years ago)

URgh. When I am in these weird headachey states, I'm also constantly starving. I ate a piece of pumpkin pie this morning, then on the way in to work I was hungry so I got some Combos, those weird pretzel-snack things, and now I'm hungry AGAIN. I went downstairs to try and buy some nuts but the snack guy isn't there.

Ah, now i get it! ;-) *bats eyelashes*

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 14:16 (twenty years ago)

You know, Nick, there's this number you can call about headaches...

Huk-L, Wednesday, 13 October 2004 14:22 (twenty years ago)

Ha, the fact that I work for a company that is supposed to help people with their headaches but don't know how to deal with this headache just shows how totally useless this job is.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 14:26 (twenty years ago)

Aw, thanks! You guys are COOL. (xp galore...mmmm, pie)

Aimurchie, I tend to be all vague because I've got some severe stuff going on, and people can be all judgemental about it. And I don't want to be sick-girl, I'd rather be that chick who shows up occasionally and rants about her great love of desserts and the game Go. Or silly banal nothings. Or whatever.

The short version is, I have tons of diagnoses, but the main idea is chronic fatigue immune dysfunction syndrome. i'd hoped i had this other hormonal diagnosis instead, but it turns out that it's in addition to everything else. seeing that i have this fun and unique combo-pak of diagnoses, the main one of which isn't understood much at all in the first place, i'm going to go with alternative medicine for a while. traditional medicine can kiss my ass. for now, anyway...i go through phases. it's been a long time.

i'm always reading, even when i'm not really posting at all...i'm too tired to read as much of ile as i used to but i don't miss this thread.

french silk pie. there isn't enough french silk pie in the world. i used to make that too, it's hard to get it smooth, but it's soooooo good homemade...

JuliaA (j_bdules), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 14:34 (twenty years ago)

Julia, if I ever make it over to the states (yeah right) please can we go out for pie?

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 14:36 (twenty years ago)

if i'm feeling well enough (someday that won't seem so improbable) we can have a PIE EXTRAVAGANZA. i'm not sure what that would entail, but it sounds fun.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 14:39 (twenty years ago)

Lady if you aren't feeling well enough then i will bring the pie to you, nevah fear! ;-)

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 14:41 (twenty years ago)

At Thanksgiving dinner on Monday, it was revealed that my youngest bro's GF (who wasn't there) doesn't like pie.
"The hell? Does she drown kittens as well?"

Huk-L, Wednesday, 13 October 2004 14:42 (twenty years ago)

Julia, you're a fucking star. And one of the very best things on these threads. Glad you're around, if not as much as we'd all like you to be.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 14:44 (twenty years ago)

Julia, I hope you recover some energy soon, Pie always helps.
I like it when the pinefox randomly shows up on threads.
Last night I was at the record store and was contemplating buying several of the albums noted above, it must be the weather/autumnal music. This morning there were gorgeous orange leaves and rain everywhere, I just wanted to stay inside and read.
I may be visiting NYC sometime soon. (Northwest is having a huge sale on fares, $49.00 roundtrip from Indy to NYC) That makes me happy.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 14:48 (twenty years ago)

Does London appear in your future plans, Jocelyn? FAPs are always so much more exciting when they're based on the visit of a beloved ILXor from across the water...

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 14:55 (twenty years ago)

I may have to go to London sometime soon, but not for good reasons. (To sign my divorce papers-I don't really know if I have to do this in person or not.) So, erm, FAPPING would be a good distraction.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 15:01 (twenty years ago)

I'm pulling for going to London in the ET05 trip next Fall. This is my current itinerary suggestion: London, Paris, Nice, Venice. I have no clue how large Great Britain is. I just imagine Markelby, Kate, Pinxor, and the rest all living in the same neighborhood.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 15:13 (twenty years ago)

Actually we all live in the same house. It's like in Help where there's four terraced houses with separate doors but behind them, all the Beatles live in one massive room!

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 15:17 (twenty years ago)

im pretty sure the bingo's are coming to london next year as well. but who would want to meet me?

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 15:29 (twenty years ago)

Well I do!

I suppose this would necessitate a trip to London, though.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 15:31 (twenty years ago)

Can you all coincide and we'll have a massive TITTYTWISTER orgy piss-up! In London (cos Archel and Pink's journeys would roughly cancel each other out as they have to come from different directions with London in the middle)! Whoot!

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 15:44 (twenty years ago)

that would be great. when do the sarahs and nicks plan on going?

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 15:46 (twenty years ago)

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 16:04 (twenty years ago)

Meanwhile, if nothing else, I will be driving from NC to ME next May, and plan to make stops in NY and Boston, so if any of y'all are up for it...

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 16:10 (twenty years ago)

Of course I'd be up for it! I would be pissed if I missed the luna.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 16:12 (twenty years ago)

What's the difference between an orgy and a piss-up?

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 16:14 (twenty years ago)

At this point, all I know is that it will be sometime during the week of May 16 (as the wedding we're driving for is on the 21st). When I know more, I'll let you know.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 16:15 (twenty years ago)

What's the difference between an orgy and a piss-up?

As Pinkpanther is probably on her way home right now, it falls to me to say lady, if you have to ask...

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 16:22 (twenty years ago)

For those of you who don't read I Love Cooking: I'm really excited about this project this weekend. (We were talking about making biscuits, and Tep said when he gets in the biscuit mood, he doesn't feel like having 12 biscuits, just one, and I said it would be funny to try and divide the recipe into 1/12, and Jaq went and did the math, so now we're going to have a Lone Biscuit bake-off.)

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 16:23 (twenty years ago)

I saw that. You guys are weird. And you need to give me more won-ton wrapper suggestions.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 16:24 (twenty years ago)

I don't know anything about wonton wrappers! You could paint little flags on them and create a scale model replica of the U.N. out of cake, or something.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 16:28 (twenty years ago)

Argh.
I have a ridiculously long board meeting tonight, and then my new double-sized radio show, so I will not get home until nearly 11 p.m., with a short stop between work and the meeting around 4.

Huk-L, Wednesday, 13 October 2004 16:34 (twenty years ago)

Aw man, you're making plans to meet up with both Mr. Bingo and Luna, neither of whom I have met yet. *cries*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 16:34 (twenty years ago)

Didn't you say you were making a boston trip soon Ned? Or did i imagine that.

I also was just looking at a clients account, she lives on Frenchman's Bend Road.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 16:36 (twenty years ago)

Man, I went to Boston in 2002 and you didn't show, YOU'LL RECALL. ;-)

I am planning an NYC visit in February. I suppose I *might* be persuaded it to extend it to Boston perhaps. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 16:37 (twenty years ago)

I thought you lived in vaguely the same megapolis as Luna?

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 16:37 (twenty years ago)

Excellent. Yes I remember the Terrastock thing....ahhhh I was ummm....ahh.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 16:38 (twenty years ago)

well hopefully that will be fixed with the oncoming LA events, Ned

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 16:38 (twenty years ago)

oh and Ms. Frenchmans Bend also has a 15 million dollar trust account. I hate my life.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 16:40 (twenty years ago)

If you threw a party, invited everyone you knew, you would see the biggest gift would be from me, with a card attach that says: "I'm not coming."

Huk-L, Wednesday, 13 October 2004 16:40 (twenty years ago)

I know, Luna, I was teasing. Di FAPs bring us all together, woo!

Casuistry, Luna is a Busy Person who looks after a young son and two fine beasties, and thus FAP schedules are not always the easiest.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 16:40 (twenty years ago)

It's not that so much as for awhile they were always on Thursday nights and Thursday nights are REALLY BAD for me. I know it was on purpose, too, btw.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 16:41 (twenty years ago)

Dammit, found out. *schedules all future FAPs for Thursday*

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 16:42 (twenty years ago)

Luna, just throw a dinner party! Why does no one on this board throw dinner parties?

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 16:43 (twenty years ago)

Because we hate you. Wait, that doesn't work.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 16:43 (twenty years ago)

Okay. Can I have it at your house, Chris? I have no room.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 16:43 (twenty years ago)

Ms. Frenchmans Bend also has a 15 million dollar trust account.

I don't actually understand this sentence, but if Ms Frenchmans Bend is a person, then it sounds like you got yourself a new poker buddy.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 16:45 (twenty years ago)

Yes, sure, just give me a little advance warning so I can tidy up.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 16:46 (twenty years ago)

Ugh. I hate trust accoutns.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 16:47 (twenty years ago)

I started a blog. If work continues as it has, I may be updating it several times throughout the day so check it early and often. I have decided that I won't attempt to keep a consistent tone or always tell the truth in my blog.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 17:48 (twenty years ago)

I was thinking of starting a blog today. Not starting it today, but today, I was thinking of it.
My blog would suck:

10/13/04: I don't have time to write anything good. Maybe tomorrow.
10/14/04: Can't talk, gotta read comics.
10/15/04: If I can find a minute...okay...here's what I think of the comics I read yesterday: Good.

Huk-L, Wednesday, 13 October 2004 17:55 (twenty years ago)

Well, great, Nick, now I have Phil Collins stuck in my head.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 17:57 (twenty years ago)

Actually, that was Genesis.

Huk-L, Wednesday, 13 October 2004 17:58 (twenty years ago)

Just make stuff up, or pretend that you're Proust. That's what I'm going to do.
"Invisible crutch" is a weird phrase that I'm kind of haunted by. It doesn't mean anything, but it popped into my head a few years ago and created a resonance or something.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 17:59 (twenty years ago)

I'm going to start an answer blog, where all I do is talk about your blog.

Huk-L, Wednesday, 13 October 2004 18:00 (twenty years ago)

I guess I just like the word 'invisible' a lot, and with crutch it's a nice nonsensical pun. "Poison pen" is another phrase I'm kind of fixated on, though that one means something obviously.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 18:01 (twenty years ago)

Huck, you should just write on my blog when you feel like it. We can be co-blogginators.
Or there's some weird 'community' thing on livejournal that I don't understand that we could do.
Or you could just do an answer blog. But you'd have to keep up with me.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 18:02 (twenty years ago)

All of Huk's posts will be "WRONG! Nick is WRONG again!"

Though I will point out that it's nevertheless Phil Collins's voice that is is stuck in my head.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 18:35 (twenty years ago)

Regardless, the ARTIST NAME for that song is Genesis. Nevermind that it was actually Phil Collins singing. I mean, if we were to follow your way of thinking, how could we discriminate between the 1980s output of Genesis and the 1980s output of Phil Collins? Are you suggesting that we shouldn't discriminate? That there is no difference between G and PC?
Usually, Nick is WRONG. But this time, dear fellow, it is you. Who is WRONG.

Huk-L, Wednesday, 13 October 2004 18:46 (twenty years ago)

Well, Phil Collins was in Genesis, so you're both right.
I assume Huck is still mulling over my propositions.
I'm very bored.
xpost

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 18:47 (twenty years ago)

I'm mulling like Martin.
How would co-blogging work?
Would we have some sort of signal to denote who was blogging, or would we leave that ambiguous? I like ambiguity, but it's your blog. For now.

Huk-L, Wednesday, 13 October 2004 18:49 (twenty years ago)

Nice journal, Nick, but it's lacking in a link to mine! *Humph!*

A coworker got to leave early today. Another came in late. My phone has maybe - MAYBE - rung twice today. Also, I'm sleepy.

Anyways, Nick, what are you putting in those wontons??

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 18:51 (twenty years ago)

We could do ambiguous, since I don't see any easy way on LiveJournal to set up multiple posters, and because it would be mysterious. But I'd have to change the password, because right now it's the same password I use for all of my other internet stuff. Let me know if you want to do this.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 18:51 (twenty years ago)

I am thinking of sauteeing up some tofu, carrots, and onions in a soy-sauce-based sauce to put in the won tons.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 18:52 (twenty years ago)

You know what you need? Scallions. They're always in wontons. I mean, aren't they??

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 18:54 (twenty years ago)

Okay, come up with a new password and email it to me. And then I'll change the password and lock you out of your own blog. Like I'm Goldie Hawn and you're Steve Martin. Or like I'm Queen Latifah and you're Steve Martin. Either way, you're The Jerk.

Huk-L, Wednesday, 13 October 2004 18:57 (twenty years ago)

I think I need a blog. All my kewl friends have one. Two of them are working on a "Fables" fan page. It should be nice when finished.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 19:00 (twenty years ago)

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 19:42 (twenty years ago)

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 19:43 (twenty years ago)

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 20:27 (twenty years ago)

Of course, I made the horrible mistake of admitting I didn't know wha he was talking about.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 20:41 (twenty years ago)

OMG that would rock so hard if you were on a curling team.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 20:43 (twenty years ago)

Not with my boss though.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 20:43 (twenty years ago)

But, for the sake of curling.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 20:44 (twenty years ago)

Sarah's boss is like the DORKIEST GUY EVER, even before this curling thing. He looks kind of like Stanley Tucci, but wussier.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 13 October 2004 20:45 (twenty years ago)

But Sarah, curling is the one sport where you can be an overweight smoker (not that I'm accusing you of either) and still be an Olympic champion! Well, possibly archery.

Huk-L, Thursday, 14 October 2004 04:35 (twenty years ago)

I was just gonna ask you the same thing darl! I am good thanks, a little anxious about my mum's surgery next week, but I am trying to stay positive. How are things in your world? Feeling any better?

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 14 October 2004 07:23 (twenty years ago)

Eh... It's been a weird couple weeks. I don;'t know how I feel about anything yet. We'll see?

All the best for your mum - I'm thinking of you both.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 14 October 2004 07:24 (twenty years ago)

I'm wondering if Tony Hawks Underground is any good and should I buy it?

Rumpy Pumpkin (rumpypumpkin), Thursday, 14 October 2004 07:26 (twenty years ago)

Thanks honey. I'm here if ya need to rant or if you just need a sympathetic ear. I always really hate to think of all the ppl on this thread that are suffering. It's a shame we can't all live round the corner. Well just know Luna, that if I did, I would bring lots of pie round (some sweets for spencer & some biscuits for the dogs) & of course of bottle of your favourite tipple!! Hope things even out soon chica! xxx

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 14 October 2004 07:29 (twenty years ago)

Aw thanks honey, I'm sure it will all be okay. One of the main things making me crazy is that one of my best friends is in a coma in a hospital in San Francisco right now because of a car accident and I can't get there to see him. Not that he'd know, but I could see him and talk to him and... fuck it's difficult, you know?

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 14 October 2004 07:31 (twenty years ago)

Oh god that's so harsh Luna. I'm sure wherever he is, he'll know somehow that you are thinking of him I am certain. It just seems that sometimes despite our best efforts terrible things happen. it always seems that when you sort one part of your life out, something else goes wrong. I know I can't really complain but i just wish things could go right some of the time. Do you have a prognosis for your friend?

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Thursday, 14 October 2004 07:44 (twenty years ago)

I have an ingrown nose hair and its fucking killing me. Yes, I have nose hair. I use an electric trimmer and everytime I do I get a random ingrown. It feels like someone is sticking a knife in my nostril.

5 more days until I turn 30. Sweet. The good news is i am seeing Brian Wilson tonight! I can't wait.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Thursday, 14 October 2004 10:44 (twenty years ago)

I seem to get ingrowing hairs on my cheek and under my chin from teh shaving.

In other bathroom news, I have just switched to an electric toothbrush. I'm not sure how much I like it yet, though it does stop my awful, braincell-murdering habit of moving my head when I brush my teeth, rather than the toothbrush.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 14 October 2004 10:58 (twenty years ago)

You need to get the Gillette M3 Power razor! It vibrates and everything. Best shave i've ever had.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Thursday, 14 October 2004 11:05 (twenty years ago)

i have a cheapo electric toothbrush and i love it. my teeth feel very clean, with so little effort! it makes a lot of noise though, and kind of makes my whole head feel like it's vibrating.

luna, that's awful about your friend. i hope things improve...

JuliaA (j_bdules), Thursday, 14 October 2004 12:32 (twenty years ago)

Good morning, everyone. It's taking me longer and longer to get ready and get to work each morning, but it's cold outside! I don't think it would be TOO bad but the wind was really picking up on my walk in.

Sitting at my desk, I thought I was getting sick because my left ear felt all stuffed up - but then I reached up and pulled out the fuzzy piece that covers my headphones. It had slipped off in there. ha ha

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 14 October 2004 12:47 (twenty years ago)

I've just switched back to analog shaving, since my new apt has no outlets in the bathroom, and I don't have a mirror set up in the kitchen or anywhere where it might not be obscene to shave.
I've also had a hair sticking out of my nose for a week now. I think I'm going to keep it, and possibly name it my heir, just to piss off my greedy, layabout kids.

THat's terrible about your friend, Luna, and your not being able to be there for him as well. Warm thoughts are sent your way.

Warm thoughts also to Pink and her mum.

Huk-L, Thursday, 14 October 2004 13:29 (twenty years ago)

Yes warm thoughts to all! and pumpkins.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Thursday, 14 October 2004 13:42 (twenty years ago)

Always pump pump pump with you.

(actually, how's all that going?)

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 14 October 2004 13:47 (twenty years ago)

Well we bought an ovulation monitor and it hasn't come back with any signs of ovulating yet, so we think we may have been timing the whole pumping wrong.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Thursday, 14 October 2004 13:51 (twenty years ago)

All that sex, wasted! You poor man.

Huk-L, Thursday, 14 October 2004 13:53 (twenty years ago)

Hahaa. Come on its really a "business arrangement" as the wife says. No wild lovin when its baby making time.

I've also realized im in love with a song from "Garden State", Frou Frou's "Let Go". Its on my Autumn soundtrack.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Thursday, 14 October 2004 13:56 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I was just uh, yanking, your, uh...there's no suitable idiom that doesn't make it sound like, uh, oh geez.

Huk-L, Thursday, 14 October 2004 13:58 (twenty years ago)

Luna, that's awful news about your friend. :-(

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 14 October 2004 13:59 (twenty years ago)

Does your wife ever read ILE Chris?

Sorry about your friend Luna. Hope you get some good news soon, your sure sound like you need it :/

Well kids, I am off to London now for birthday fappage; probably won't be online again until Monday so have good weekends everyone!

Archel (Archel), Thursday, 14 October 2004 14:44 (twenty years ago)

Rumpy: Tony Hawk Underground is pretty fun, but I personally prefer Tony Hawk IV, the one that came before it. It's a little more challenging, THUG was pretty easy for me and I'm not a big gamer.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 14 October 2004 14:51 (twenty years ago)

Have fun, Archel!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 14 October 2004 14:51 (twenty years ago)

no, the wife never reads ILE. THANK GOD.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Thursday, 14 October 2004 15:02 (twenty years ago)

So I'm sitting here, doing some really boring menial task, cutting out articles for the back-up byline archives, and the intern, the snot-nosed dick-faced shit-eating sack-of-zilch who makes more money than I do, looks over my shoulder and says "That's some real good cutting there, Huck."
I'll fucking show you some real good cutting, I'll cut you real good!

Huk-L, Thursday, 14 October 2004 15:15 (twenty years ago)

Huk-L and his Chuk-Ls.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 14 October 2004 16:14 (twenty years ago)

It's just, argh, I don't mind the other people being condescending to me (not true), but this kid bugs me.

Huk-L, Thursday, 14 October 2004 16:38 (twenty years ago)

I hate being talked down to as well, even if the other person is older than me. I understand giving someone your respect, but SOME PEOPLE!>?!?!?!?!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 14 October 2004 16:43 (twenty years ago)

Where is everybody? Don't you guys want to know if I acted on my homicidal rage?

Huk-L, Thursday, 14 October 2004 18:36 (twenty years ago)

*sighed*

Huk, Did you act on your homoerotic rage?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 14 October 2004 18:37 (twenty years ago)

INVISIBLE CRUTCH still going strong on day 2, suckaz.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 14 October 2004 18:38 (twenty years ago)

Hey! What did you do? You twisted my words...you made me gay!

Huk-L, Thursday, 14 October 2004 18:39 (twenty years ago)

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 14 October 2004 18:41 (twenty years ago)

My bad.

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 14 October 2004 18:42 (twenty years ago)

Sure, I go gay and everyone wants credit.

Huk-L, Thursday, 14 October 2004 18:48 (twenty years ago)

It's only a month until the anniversary of my grandmother's death. My family keeps emailing about it back and forth today, but I don't know what I'd say. It's just all very sad and I know it must be very hard on my mom. :-(

In lighter news, Let's hear it for Huk! We're proud of you! Way to go, Chris!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 14 October 2004 18:48 (twenty years ago)

Is it the one year anniversary?
Probably the best thing you can do is to be there for your mom.

Huk-L, Thursday, 14 October 2004 18:51 (twenty years ago)

yesterday, the power was off, thanks to the housemate not setting up the automatic-withdrawl bill-paying thing, so no PC and no at-home job hunting for me. i went downtown to visit the library for the first time, and saw all the hubbub around Pioneer Square. Apparently, John Edwards was there for a big rally and debate-watching fun.

wound up at watching the debate again at Sabala's, then came home to fart around and waste time.

tonight, i'll be helping ACT recruit more volunteers at a show. Also, i'll be doing this dressed in my luchador mask & cape.

Sir Kingfish Beavis D'Azzmonch (Kingfish), Thursday, 14 October 2004 18:55 (twenty years ago)

So this Sunday, the Fake Fictions are:
1. Going to an early-morning photo shoot with a friend of our drummer who's a professional photog, who's going to take publicity shots of us for free.
2. Inviting a potential keyboard player to come to our practice, hang out, and possibly make up some keyboard parts.

n/a (Nick A.), Thursday, 14 October 2004 19:23 (twenty years ago)

Kingfish, Maybe your roommate would be more responsible if you weren't "farting around" the apartment all the time ha ha.

Huk, Yeah, it will be the one-year anniversary. I can't BE with my mom though, because I'm in Chicago and she's in Virginia. I keep thinking I should try to go home for xmas to surprise her, but damn it I was looking forward to having my first xmas with You Know Who.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 14 October 2004 19:30 (twenty years ago)

fun thing is, the power bill apparently wasn't paid from before i moved in...

Sir Kingfish Beavis D'Azzmonch (Kingfish), Thursday, 14 October 2004 19:32 (twenty years ago)

hard choice, Sarah. But, y'know, if you have a good long distance plan, spend a lot time talking on the phone with your mom.
When my grandpa was dying last year, I called my dad every chance I got (though my parents live here, the rest of my family is mostly in Saskatoon, so that's where he was) and also my brother who was stuck in Maine.
Maybe, ask your mom if she can mail you a photo of your grandmother if you don't already have one, or maybe you'd just like another, if there's one you can think of that you like. It might help your mom feel better to know that you want to remember her. I mean, because what can you do on an anniversary like that? Some people have memorial services, or visit the cemetary, but something like sending a photo can feel a little more like an active, rather than passive way to keep a memory alive. Just an idea.

Huk-L, Thursday, 14 October 2004 19:38 (twenty years ago)

Thanks, Huk. She's ordered a gravestone (my grandmother was cremated and her remains given to my uncle, who gave them to his exwife, who reportedly scattered them over a lake in Texas) for the family plot in Virginia. It's ready now. So she's going to take a trip down there next month to go to the site for a vigil with my grandmother's old best friend.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 14 October 2004 19:42 (twenty years ago)

this is what day of the dead is for.

kephm (kephm), Thursday, 14 October 2004 19:45 (twenty years ago)

One of the security guards was on the phone in the lobby just now. Here's exactly what I heard him say: "Now do the rockaway. Right. Right. Now lean back." It sounded like he was giving someone directions.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Thursday, 14 October 2004 20:00 (twenty years ago)

Huk-L, Thursday, 14 October 2004 20:04 (twenty years ago)

does 'battling green eye shades' actually mean something?

kephm (kephm), Thursday, 14 October 2004 20:30 (twenty years ago)

Is the Rockaway some exciting new sexual position about which no one has told me?

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 14 October 2004 20:32 (twenty years ago)

Sadly no. It's a boring dance that entails nothing more than the dancer standing still and, well, leaning one shoulder back.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Thursday, 14 October 2004 20:47 (twenty years ago)

Ah good. I'd hate to think I was so out of touch...

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 14 October 2004 20:51 (twenty years ago)

Rock rock, rockaway fuck.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 14 October 2004 21:13 (twenty years ago)

Jeanne, are those lines not from a recent hip hop single? I can't place it, but I'm about 90% sure.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 14 October 2004 22:23 (twenty years ago)

Julia, I'm so glad you're with us again (though I hope your health allows for more than the occasional post), luna, I'm so very terribly sorry to hear that about your friend, Pink, you remain one of the most awesome individuals ever, Jeanne, that is just about the weirdest thing I've heard in awhile (though I'm not even somewhat versed in the world of hip hop, so maybe it's not that weird), Sarah, I'm sorry that terrible anniversary is coming up for you (but if you need any advice about how to get through it, I'm totally here for you), Kingfish, good luck with getting the power bill situation straightened out, Mark, I think you did mention that little "I dated..." factoid from earlier in the thread previously (but it's okay) (it's also okay that you have nothing in terms of gossip), right now I'm so full (mostly from Oreos and coffee) that pie doesn't even seem remotely appetizing, I have no idea why I'm still up, and, oh, "You can touch the sunrise/Feel the new day enter your life!" And other inspirational bits and pieces. ;)

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 15 October 2004 09:00 (twenty years ago)

Oh man, SMiLe was awesome. Except for Captain Shaky Head Dance in front of me. Which eventually turned into whole body jerks and moves. I though his chair was going to snap. I really enjoyed the little acoustic performance they gave at the beginning. Surfer Girl acoustic style was awesome. Brian was good, missed a few notes on God Only Knows and forgot the words once but overall a good performance. And I bought a $35 t-shirt.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Friday, 15 October 2004 11:46 (twenty years ago)

I took my last $40 out of the bank yesterday, AFTER buying a shitload of groceries. It was supposed to be all I had to get me through until next Wednesday, when I was expecting my freelance cheque. It was going to make for no drunky-drunk on the weekend and no buying new music for a while.
BUT, my freelance cheque was in the morning mail at work, and I got it! And it's fucking huge! It's almost as big as the ones I was getting before I tried to quit last December. So, uh, fuck work, I'mma go 'cross the street to the cowboy bar and ride the mechanical bull and pelt my liver with cheap cowboy beer.

Huk-L, Friday, 15 October 2004 13:38 (twenty years ago)

Sounds like heaven huck, may i join you pardner?

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 15 October 2004 13:40 (twenty years ago)

Sounds nice, Chris. I wish I had enough power to have people thrown out of shows. "Excuse me, guards, this guy is bobbing around too much - get him out of my sight immediately!! He disgusts me!"

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 15 October 2004 13:40 (twenty years ago)

All aboard, Pink!
Oh wait, that's train lingo, not cowboy lingo. I gotta keep them straight. Train talk's liable to get an hombre branded a dude in a cowboy bar.

Huk-L, Friday, 15 October 2004 13:43 (twenty years ago)

Dude looks like a lady!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Friday, 15 October 2004 13:45 (twenty years ago)

Also, earlier this week, there was a copy of the new Anthony Kiedis autobiog in my mailbox, and sometimes the entertainment ed. gets that stuff and just passes it along to me, so I threw in the bottom drawer of my desk and moved on with my life, but not having anything to read on the long bus ride to the comic shop after work yesterday, I grabbed it. THere was a note inside from the Books Section Editor asking if I'd like to review it!
I wouldn't. But since she asked. I mean, I think I'd be a little happier writing more about books than shitty rockers, unless the book is about a shitty rocker, who's not really that shitty anyway. I mean, I've got no truck against RHCP. So I'm going to review it.
But, like, it's always nice when an editor comes to you!

Huk-L, Friday, 15 October 2004 16:13 (twenty years ago)

Just pick one of his song titles and ask him mercilessly stupid questions about. "So, when you talk about 'My Heart In Your Hands', are you singing about your recent bypass surgery? ... Oh, no? It's kind of a misleading title, don't you think? ... Well, if you didn't mean it literally, maybe you should have indicated it was a metaphor, you know, something like "My Heart Might As Well Be In Your Hands" or "As If My Heart Were In Your Hands" or "My Heart In Your Hands (But Not Really)". ... Look, I just would worry about being perceived as a liar and a deceiver by the public, if I were you. ... Anyway, the song doesn't really describe the hands very well -- were they calloused?" Etc.

Get him scared that he's going to have the most deranged article ever written about him, but then just write a regular by-the-numbers article that doesn't mention any of that stuff.

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 15 October 2004 16:26 (twenty years ago)

Cool story:

A coworker sends me a stupid forward about people putting HIV in ketchup dispensers at fast food chains.

I go on Snopes.com and quickly find the article disproving it, which also mentions you couldn't get HIV that way.

I forward it back to everyone CCed on the email.

Boo ya.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 15 October 2004 18:04 (twenty years ago)

I love Snopes. Didn't I do that before with some email your sister or mom or somebody sent us, maybe the one about pets dying from Swiffer?

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 15 October 2004 18:06 (twenty years ago)

I do it with those OH MY GOD THIS HORRIBLE THING COULD HAPPEN TO YOU IF YOU AREN'T CAREFUL THE SKY IS FALLING YOU ALL HAVE AIDS NOW K THX BYE emails my mom forwards me.

She doesn't ever get it.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 15 October 2004 18:07 (twenty years ago)

Hmmm, the thing is, when I tell people who fwd stuff that it's wrong, they just get all "Oh yeah, well, you don't believe in anything, Huck. You wouldn't even clap during Peter Pan. You wanted Tinkerbell to die, you fairy-killing asshole!"

Huk-L, Friday, 15 October 2004 18:08 (twenty years ago)

Fairy killing asshole.

I wanted her to die. Stupid fairy.

luna (luna.c), Friday, 15 October 2004 18:09 (twenty years ago)

I love doing that, Sarah. Satisfying experience: I put a plug in an email my aunt sent me about some long-dead woman trying to get "Touched By an Angel" cancelled. (It was cancelled years ago, BTW.) Wrote back a snarky email saying something like, "Yeah, it only takes a minute to respond, but it takes a second to delete," and linked her to the debunking Snopes article. Next time I heard from her, she was busting other people forwarding bunk emails via Snopes. I paid it forward with great success.

Smokin' funk by the boxes (kenan), Friday, 15 October 2004 18:12 (twenty years ago)

I hate getting crap forwards from people about how Target hates vets and that's why we should all shop at Walmart or whatever. I always send them to Snopes or about.com too. My friends's mom wrote Swiffer a letter about the pets scare, and they wrote her a very nice detailed letter back, sadly she received it after their dog had to be put down (strokes).
Sometimes people just refuse to believe me though, when I tell them that their aren't secret codes in snapple labels.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Friday, 15 October 2004 18:12 (twenty years ago)

Ha ha. Actually, Nick, that was sent around the office by another coworker (the swiffer one).

When I sent this email back to the woman who sent it to me with the snopes link, she was like, "Sarah, what is this?! Are you saying you know it isn't true? How could you know that?"
I said, "Yeah, it's not true. Did you look at that link I sent you?"
"The what?"
"The email I sent you - it had a link to Snopes.. (explaining snopes)..."
She says, "But it said a man did it, so I guess it happened."
me: *sigh*
Her: "Why would someone email it me if it's not true?"
me: "Someone probably just made it up to scare people."
Her: "My friend wouldn't want to scare me! She's a high school teacher!"

That didn't help, but I've been oddly sick since Friday -- tired a lot, swollen lymphs in my neck, that sort of thing. It comes and goes. Also I slept poorly last night, D- at best.

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 15 October 2004 19:13 (twenty years ago)

I've been going to bed early all week. Not necessarily sleeping better, but sleeping longer, which counts for something. Not tonight though, tonight I party at the cowboy bar!

Huk-L, Friday, 15 October 2004 19:15 (twenty years ago)

But my paycheck is for the wrong amount! Argh!

Cowboy bar? You really are gay!

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 15 October 2004 19:20 (twenty years ago)

Almost done work. The intern has got the TV tuned in to some shitty sitcom with that guy, that guy, he was on a show called Boston Common and now he has some other show. His shows always suck. Why is the kid watching shitty TV at work? He could MAYBE get away with having a sports channel on, but this fucking crass little fuck, I'm gonna stick my scissors in his eye.

Huk-L, Friday, 15 October 2004 19:52 (twenty years ago)

I am having a good day. I just thought I would like to share that. I might even try to cook The Lone Biscuit.

Orbit (Orbit), Friday, 15 October 2004 19:55 (twenty years ago)

I'm going to sit on my mother until she agrees to bake me a pie this weekend.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Friday, 15 October 2004 19:57 (twenty years ago)

Did I mention it's been snowing here today.

I like cold weather, but this statement clearly indicates that you live somewhere awful. It's fuxking October.

Huk-L, Friday, 15 October 2004 20:09 (twenty years ago)

Huck, what should Sarah and I do tonight? Go to that play I linked to above? Or something else? I kind of feel like going to a rock show. The Poster Children are playing at the Empty Bottle, but I don't think I'm very excited about that.

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 15 October 2004 20:14 (twenty years ago)

Go to the play! I haven't even checked the link, but come on, plays are much more special than rock shows. Also, you can go to the rock show AFTER the play if you want.

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 15 October 2004 20:31 (twenty years ago)

I sort of liked him in Boston Common, but the new show is dumb, and I can't remember his name either.

Meanwhile, it is NOT snowing here, dammit, it's relatively clear and 71 degrees. I know those of you in colder climes hate me, but I really get tired of this weather (or lack thereof).

luna (luna.c), Friday, 15 October 2004 20:34 (twenty years ago)

This play starts at 11:30! And it's actually 30 plays in 60 minutes. The only thing making me wary about it is we'll have to drive there and find a parking space and I hate driving in Chicago.

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 15 October 2004 20:35 (twenty years ago)

It's starting to get cold-ish again after some unseasonably warm days.

30 plays in 60 minutes! That could be interesting. Go for it!

Casuistry (Chris P), Friday, 15 October 2004 20:40 (twenty years ago)

I just had my daily meeting with the VP. He introduces
me to this other guy, but doesn't mention why he's
there. The guy sits in our meeting. THE ENTIRE TIME
this big, oafy looking guy is sitting beside me
staring at my chest, occasionally moving his eyes up
and down my body.
Anyway, it was SO creepy. Then he referred to his wife
as "the little lady." THEN he said to the VP as he was
staring at me, "Well, G***, looks to me that you've
got one efficient little lady here," then he smirked
some more. I wanted to puke all over the place.

I found out later that he's his stockbroker.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 15 October 2004 20:44 (twenty years ago)

Yeah really - you should. How often can something like that happen?

luna (luna.c), Friday, 15 October 2004 20:45 (twenty years ago)

SARAH YOU NEED A NEW JOB SHOCKA!!!

n/a (Nick A.), Friday, 15 October 2004 20:45 (twenty years ago)

Sarah, you should have grabbed him by the balls and said something like 'I wouldn't be making cracks involving the word little if I were you, sport.'

luna (luna.c), Friday, 15 October 2004 20:46 (twenty years ago)

You know, the thought of grabbing his balls makes me feel more nauseous, but maybe I could go with that feeling for the puking on him bit.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Friday, 15 October 2004 20:47 (twenty years ago)

Sigh.

There's an independent film shooting in my apartment. A woman named M*** M***a is directing it; and I agreed to lend out the kitchen for a few extra bucks. I didn't realize the scale -- it was deliberately underrepresented to me. Now I have M***, her first and second AD, her DP, focus puller, two sound guys, a couple of grips, bunch of gaffers, a teamster, a craft-services person, the make-up guy, FX guy, two production types, and a bunch of people I don't know sitting in my living room smoking and chatting. The took out all the furniture, replaced it with nicer stuff painted the walls weird green (to chromakey them out), and have all-but banished me to my room. This is incredibly odd. I want to take pictuers, but I'm afraid I'll get in trouble. Also, the actors are all here. The girl's hot and the guy's very handsome, and I look like shit and am feeling very insecure.

Sir Kingfish Beavis D'Azzmonch (Kingfish), Saturday, 16 October 2004 02:11 (twenty years ago)

Okay, clearly there has been some severe stress going on in people's lives lately. Um, yeah, it's natural to live life under a stress cloud, but damn, this sounds like an extra-bad day stress-wise. Hopefully the stress levels subside.

Um, speaking of peanut butter jelly time (which need not be mentioned to actually be re-mentionable), I'm currently CRAVING a peanut butter & jelly sandwich right now. CRAVING. Which is odd, yeah, considering it's 10:35 in the evening and I had a really good dinner, but... oh well.

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Saturday, 16 October 2004 02:32 (twenty years ago)

Hiya Dee!
I was eating peanut butter & fudge cookies yesterday, and I'll probably eat some more tonight, so, uh, I feel ya sister!
Nick, I hope you and Sarah went to the play. That's what I would've told you to do.
I just missed the 10 p.m. airing of Justice League Unlimited, so now I have to wait until the 1 a.m. I am a nerd.

Huk-L, Saturday, 16 October 2004 03:41 (twenty years ago)

I hate myself, my life, and my girlfriend. Not necessarily in that order.

Smokin' funk by the boxes (kenan), Saturday, 16 October 2004 03:44 (twenty years ago)

Actually, I mostly hate my girlfriend. There. I said it. My fondest wish is to have my own apartment.

Smokin' funk by the boxes (kenan), Saturday, 16 October 2004 03:44 (twenty years ago)

sorry dude. Wish things were better for you.

hstencil (hstencil), Saturday, 16 October 2004 03:49 (twenty years ago)

But your girlfriend is vaguely famous!

Casuistry (Chris P), Saturday, 16 October 2004 03:50 (twenty years ago)

Kenan, I'm sorry your life isn't going your way. Um... I was going to save this for the "Truth or Dare" thread, but as a fully red-blooded hetero female, I have to state that you've got a really good build. You know. Body-wise. Damn good. You obv must take really good care of yourself.

Huck, those peanut butter & fudge cookies sound -- oh dear Lord, I think it'd probably rival cheesecake as my favorite dessert. Did you make them yourself or did you purchase them? And if you made them, may I please have the recipe? I'd love to try out peanut butter & fudge cookies too!

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Saturday, 16 October 2004 03:59 (twenty years ago)

Why didn't I buy some cookies tonight? All I have is stinkin' fruit.

Bryan (Bryan), Saturday, 16 October 2004 04:00 (twenty years ago)

There's no bad time for a PB&J.

Dee, did I mention the molasses spice cookies I made last weekend? They were, seriously, the best cookies ever. EVER. And I am not, generally, boastful of my cooking.

Casuistry (Chris P), Saturday, 16 October 2004 04:01 (twenty years ago)

(xpost)

(Ha ha -- that sounds like I was trying to pick you up, Kenan. I swear to God that wasn't the case! I really do hope things work out between you and your girlfriend because that does seem to be a really, really good match. I was just saying something that might have had a tiny possibility of cheering you up!)

Molasses spice cookies? (Obv either I don't remember or you didn't mention it.) Oh my WOW. It really does sound like some of the best cookies ever made.

(I'll wait to indulge in pb&j goodness tomorrow morning. Er, or later on in the morning, really. Past midnight locally.)

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Saturday, 16 October 2004 04:04 (twenty years ago)

Dee, I hug you.

We are a good match. Except when we're not.

Smokin' funk by the boxes (kenan), Saturday, 16 October 2004 04:07 (twenty years ago)

Dear Indie Rock Girl who smiles at me and probably has a crush on moi,
It could never work out. You like Patti Smith and the Yardbirds. I like Tina Turner and the Kinks. I'm sure there are plenty of people, maybe not as good looking as me, but nearly so, who like Patti Smith. Good luck, I wish you nothing but happiness.

Huk-L

Anyway, I bought the pb fudge cookies. I also bought chocolate milk to go with them. Something I haven't done in YEARS. I don't know, sometime around 1993, 1994, chocolate milk changed, and not for the better.

Huk-L, Saturday, 16 October 2004 21:22 (twenty years ago)

Dear gigantic, messy, and vaguely unfriendly film crew in my living room,

I didn't tell you it was okay to unplug my refrigerator.

Even though you gave me $200 to replace the contents,

you'll never replace my crab bisque

ditto the chicken stock.

fuckheads.

love,

Remy.

Remy (x Jeremy), Saturday, 16 October 2004 21:36 (twenty years ago)

Huck, who cares what music she likes?

Casuistry (Chris P), Saturday, 16 October 2004 22:26 (twenty years ago)

Remy, unleash the pain.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Saturday, 16 October 2004 22:29 (twenty years ago)

Kenan, I return the hugs. And understand perfectly what you're talking about overally.

Remy, dude, they unplugged the refrigerator?!?! Without asking you?!?! Fuck, $200 isn't enough money for that kind of offense!

Chris OTM, Huck. Really.

Oh yeah, and speaking of music -- I have never in my music-listening and -fan life felt as useless as I do right now at this very moment. I feel overdispensable, cheap, like generic tissue. :(

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Sunday, 17 October 2004 04:34 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, but generic tissue is awesome! So affordable, and there when you need it. You just pop into the Rite Aid, throw down your quarters, and hey nonny nonny, you can blow you nose with freedom!

Casuistry (Chris P), Sunday, 17 October 2004 04:41 (twenty years ago)

But how many people actively seek out the generic tissue? How many in comparison to those who will only go for the Kleenex or the Puffs brand tissues?

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Sunday, 17 October 2004 04:50 (twenty years ago)

And what if you were at home and you had easy access to both a box of Kleenex tissues and a box of the store-brand tissues? Both of them are brand-new and unopened. Wouldn't you choose the Kleenex over the store brand?

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Sunday, 17 October 2004 04:52 (twenty years ago)

Even if I chose the Kleenex, I'd still be glad the generics were there for when I ran out.

Casuistry (Chris P), Sunday, 17 October 2004 04:56 (twenty years ago)

So you would be appreciative of the generic tissue's presence and existence (instead of dreading it), even while you used the brand name stuff? And when the brand name stuff ran out, you wouldn't go out to the store and purchase more brand name tissue, in order to avoid having to use the generic stuff?

It's okay, Je-- I mean, Remy. This thread can handle multiple subjects at the same time, IMHO. And it's not like you were being mean or anything. You were just posting a picture, which you have every right to do. (BTW, who is that?)

Also: Good luck with trying to weather the storm that is the filming session in your apartment.

Many Coloured Halo (Dee the Lurker), Sunday, 17 October 2004 05:09 (twenty years ago)

:) Thanks. I always feel bad posting to the TTWISs, since I'm a relative newcomer. Anyways, that's Tiffany Amber-Thiessen, co-star of the early '90s sitcom 'Saved By the Bell' which had a TREMENDOUS effect on my psychological development. It was practically a template by which my social interactions were judged: a model of normal, healthy, teenaged friendships, romances, etc., [Now I realize their artifice, but at 15 they seemed totally normal!], and the ultimate GIRL to GET! I lusted after her without stop from 1994-1996.

Remy (x Jeremy), Sunday, 17 October 2004 05:14 (twenty years ago)

commas excluded.

Remy (x Jeremy), Sunday, 17 October 2004 05:18 (twenty years ago)

Hon, I think half the people who are ILX regulars today could be considered "relative newcomers" in that they're new to this whole forum community relative to others on it. Including me. So you should feel no need to feel terrible about participating in this thread series. In fact, I'm incredibly GRATEFUL for anyone "new" who participates in this thread series, because it means that there will be ANOTHER individual out there whom I will get to know on much more than just a surface level. Plus, I've totally seen your posts elsewhere here, so it's not like you're so new that hardly anyone will have seen you post prior to participating herein.

Ohhhh, Tiffany Amber-Thiessen?? I remember "Saved By The Bell"! Oh dear Lord do I remember it. Ugh, I'm starting to remember it even more than I wanted to, really. I did once think it was a great show, but, um, that was during the first few eps of the series and I soon tired of it. Not that I'm saying that you were wrong for loving it -- different strokes for different folks, all that. But anyway -- dude. What a high bar to set! At least from my own personal viewpoint.

Um, but at least she was an actress. I think actresses are supposed to set high bars. I just finished looking around a bit on the latest "What do you look like?" thread and... nausea slowly creeping in. I mean, talk about your high bars to set -- damn, I am never having a picture of me taken ever again. I don't think I could even look in a mirror for more than maybe a second!

Remy (x Jeremy), Sunday, 17 October 2004 05:46 (twenty years ago)

And if she knocked on your door right now, you would smile politely and direct her away?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Sunday, 17 October 2004 05:56 (twenty years ago)

I'd ask her for a cigerette! I'm Jonesin', man!

Remy (x Jeremy), Sunday, 17 October 2004 06:07 (twenty years ago)

Do you ever talk to your friends and tell them what you really think, except it turns out what you really think isn't what they want to hear at all?

I hate that.

luna (luna.c), Sunday, 17 October 2004 08:31 (twenty years ago)

Hey, guys. I'm logged in under nick's name, but whatcha gonna do?? It's Sunday morning and I had to wake up early so my hair would be dry in time for this photo shoot thing - ooh la la. I'm going to look all fancy and my bandmates will look like they do everyday, but that's how most band photos turn out I think.

Kenan, Good luck with that! I don't know the background, but you should try just spending some time alone (go for a long walk or something) to think things over before you have any talks with the gf. Assuming whatever it is requires some sort of TALK.

I had heartburn all night, so I kept waking up (way to go, me, drinking a bunch of coffee yesterday on an empty stomach). Then I woke up at 7 from nightmares (involving someone breaking my guitar and my grandmother being killed, though she's already gone in real life).

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Sunday, 17 October 2004 21:43 (twenty years ago)

Sarah, thanks. Everyone has cooled off a lot now. We'll be okay. Funny, but I think not being married makes smoothing things over a lot easier. We feel freer to have problems (sometimes loud problems) with each other without feeling trapped or obligated to stay together. Which makes it easier to stay together, you know?

OMG no. I drink like a fish, smoke like a chimney, and eat anything I want (which, to be fair, does not generally include sweets or the 'deep fried' group). I would be a blob if I didn't ride my bike and walk and live on the third floor.

Smokin' funk by the boxes (kenan), Sunday, 17 October 2004 21:54 (twenty years ago)

Kenan, if you were to hug me IRL, that would probably amount to the most contact with anyone of the opposite sex I've had in... years and years and years. *sighs* So lonely wrt that aspect of my existence. I'm at the point where I'm incredibly satisfied by the quality of friendships I'm experiencing with my female friends -- I could not ask for more -- but when it comes to anything male-related, I seem to strike out time and time again. Okay, so my Voice of Reason is male and I'm glad he's there to be my Voice of Reason, but he's a male in a situation where by default the interactions are all going to be friends-only, no matter what. And I'm not complaining about that at all -- I mean, with friends, the more the merrier, right? -- but it's the fact that that's not even the exception to any rules that is kinda the bummer.

I keep on hoping some good guy will run into Tony Robbins in an elevator that gets stuck, a la the title character in Shallow Hal, encounter me, and look beyond the surface to see what I have to offer, which may not be flashy or especially impressive, but is always loyal, always passionate, always consistent, always fair. Too bad Shallow Hal was just a movie.

Hey pinx0r, big hugs to you once again. I'm sure she'll be fine.

My favourite great aunt died yesterday. That's all I know about it so far, but it's sad. On the plus side, she had a good innings and died peacefully at home, as far as I am aware. I'll miss her.

I'm feeling fluey. It's weird - I can tell I'm getting ill and I can tell it's not a cold, which is about the only illness I've had in the last few years. Curses.

In happier news, I'm sort of in a good mood! Very strange. Reading all your messages has helped, though - you're a lovely bunch.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 18 October 2004 10:04 (twenty years ago)

Hope everything is looking up for peeps. So Friday I called in to work after getting home late from Brian Wilson. I had planned this out anyways so I could go get my license renewed before today. So I go to city hall to pay my overdue excise tax. Get my release forms and head to the registry about two blocks away. Walk in and its 900 degrees in there. I swear I walked into hell. So im waiting in line and the person in front of me vomits all over the floor. Wonderful. I decide that this isn't the best place to be so I leave and decide to go to the registry express about 5 miles away. I get there and its closed. Back to Satans registry...Get back in line and find out there is a 4 HOUR WAIT! The computers are down statewide. I leave the registry and head directly for the bar and proceed to down 3 22 oz Octoberfests. Leave bar, go to liqour store and buy more beer. Get completely shitfaced by 4. Passed out at 7.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Monday, 18 October 2004 10:06 (twenty years ago)

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Monday, 18 October 2004 10:49 (twenty years ago)

Hi guys! I haven't posted to these threads for a while, I've been quite busy with my studies this autumn. Even this very moment I should be reading articles on late 19th century feminism, but I guess posting here gives me an excuse to take a break from that.

I'm hoping all the best for your mom too, Pink.

Lately I've been having more crushes than for ages. As I hinted on the "Horny commiseration" thread, one of these crushes actually led to some sexual activity last Saturday, but that was the end of it, unfortunately, because she seemed very nice. *Sniff.* I've also had sort of a semi-crush on another girl, and we even were on a semi-date, and I should probably call her soon and try to set up another date, so I could find out whether there's anything to it or not.

On the top of that, I have this kinda superficial crush on an Icelandic exchange student who's taking the same "Feminist history" course as I am. I haven't even spoken to her, but she's very cute in an original way. Last week I tried to make an eye contact with her, and I'm pretty sure she responded to it. The problem is that a friend of mine is on the same course, and I'm pretty sure everyone suspects we're a couple, because we always come to the class together, sit next to each other, and leave for home together (we live in the same direction). I'm having the course tomorrow, and my friend is absent then, so this would be a good moment to try to do something... But how the hell do you approach someone in an university seminar? Any advice or experiences on the same sort of situations would be welcome.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 18 October 2004 11:12 (twenty years ago)

Thanks Tuomas.

I would just make it plainly obvious that this girl is not your g/f. Maybe talk to her on the way out of the lecture. perhaps try to sit near to her.

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Monday, 18 October 2004 11:28 (twenty years ago)

Hi guys. Hope everything will be fine with your mum Pink. Good to hear from you again Tuomas. Are there many other male participants on your feminism course? It would seem unusual for men to take the course, here at least, but I think it's a very good choice! I have had that problem with friends of the opposite sex being taken for boyfriends too - it's very hard to dispel the impression without deliberately avoiding them and/or shagging loads of other people, I find. Oh well. Get shagging, I guess.

I got a really good review of my poetry in a magazine today which is quite a tonic when it's a crappy old Monday otherwise. Plus, in the same mag, a positive mention of an individual poem from another publication. So I seem to be flavour of the month if only in the tiny world of S0uth Magaz1ne, heh.

Also today I received my new t-shirt, delivered to my desk, which I luuurrrrve! http://www.buyolympia.com/combined/images/readingissexy_co_med.jpg

Thanks for the advice, Pink, I was kinda thinking the same. But it's actually quite hard to make it obvious to a bunch of strangers that we aren't dating; last week, before the teacher arrived, we were talking about a guy she was meeting the next day, so I guess all the Finns who were listening got the idea. The Icelandic girl was there too, but I don't think she knows any Finnish, so she probably didn't have any idea what were talking about.

Maybe talk to her on the way out of the lecture. perhaps try to sit near to her.

Yeah, I was thinking whether I could muster the courage to sit next to her, but that might be kinda too obvious, since I usually sit opposite to her. Also, I'm terrible at starting conversations with people I don't know... "So, you're from Iceland... Do you like Björk?"

Thanks for the advice, Pink, I'll report here whether or not anything happens tomorrow. If anyone has had any experiences of the same kind, I'd love to hear about them.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 18 October 2004 12:00 (twenty years ago)

Are there many other male participants on your feminism course? It would seem unusual for men to take the course, here at least, but I think it's a very good choice!

Actually, I'm the only guy on that course. For some reason women's studies don't seem to appeal to male students... It's a pity. On the other women's studies courses I've had there has been at least one guy besides me taking part.

Also today I received my new t-shirt, delivered to my desk, which I luuurrrrve!

I see they had to emphasize the "sexy" part on the picture by having a model with C-cup breasts...

See, this is what feminist studies does to your mind! :)

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 18 October 2004 12:07 (twenty years ago)

I was noticing that myself. I wanted to say nothing, and yet. ;-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 18 October 2004 12:09 (twenty years ago)

Haha. Yes. In my case perhaps the t-shirt should read 'reading is sexy... in a flat-chested kinda way, just so you know'.

Archel (Archel), Monday, 18 October 2004 12:27 (twenty years ago)

Nevertheless, it *is* sexy. One of my biggest fantasies is to meet someone in the library, get into deep discussion about what she's reading, and subsequently fall in love. Doesn't sound likely though.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 18 October 2004 12:41 (twenty years ago)

If you are feeling really emotional, how do you hide your emotions for a bit infront of others?

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Monday, 18 October 2004 13:14 (twenty years ago)

Pink, Distract yourself with some coffee or hot chocolate at your desk. If you can, take a quick break, maybe go on a walk or just spend a bit of time in the bathroom consoling yourself. Look busy so people won't be as likely to approach you.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 18 October 2004 13:18 (twenty years ago)

Best wishes for all you folks enduring scary and/or sad times.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Monday, 18 October 2004 13:22 (twenty years ago)

When I was working as a phone poll interviewer, and some of the people I called were really rude to me, I always went to the bathroom to cry. I didn't last long in that job.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 18 October 2004 13:26 (twenty years ago)

I think I am good at keeping my emotions hidden, but I'm actually awful at it. (As evidenced yesterday)
Pink I really hope your mom will be alright, I'll be thinking good thoughts for you. I agree with Sarah's advice, also, Bach's Rescue Remedy is great for calming your nerves.
Happy Birthday Chris B-is-for-babymakin' Bingo!
I am so tired today. I went to a wedding yesterday of a high school friend, and it was so beautiful and fun, the wedded couple are so happy. I drank and danced (to a Klezmer band!) too much, and it was fantastic. I ran into a friend I hadn't seen in 6 years, and we just kept staring at each other going "6 years.wow.yeah" for a long period of time. Then we both realized we are really bad at hiding our emotions when everyone else is partying and you're staring into space and I made him talk to me about the shit he's going through, and that I'm going through, and how we've changed over time, and so I'm feeling very nostalgic and a bit sad and happy at the same time, today. All my friends smoke like a chimneys so my lungs are all funny today from breathing it in. And somehow I ended up promising him I'd make him dinner. Which will be fun, but I have to clean my house.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Monday, 18 October 2004 13:30 (twenty years ago)

All shall be well, Pink. Fret not. :-)

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 18 October 2004 13:31 (twenty years ago)

I feel like putting my face through a pane of glass. How's that for a good start to the week?

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Monday, 18 October 2004 13:32 (twenty years ago)

Oh dear, what's wrong?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 18 October 2004 13:33 (twenty years ago)

The fact that her bosses are amoebae, mentally speaking.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 18 October 2004 13:34 (twenty years ago)

Read some shit I was better of not reading.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Monday, 18 October 2004 13:36 (twenty years ago)

I am having some carrot & orange cake, that is helping. I just need to keep my emotions in check when i visit my mum in the hospital later. Apparently she actually said to my brother that she hoped i wouldn't get upset as it would upset her. So I have to stay strong for my mum's sake. *deep breath*

Thanks guys, you are all so sweet.

(oh & jeanne, pls don't put that pretty face through a pane of glass, make sure it's someone else's face!)

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Monday, 18 October 2004 13:37 (twenty years ago)

It's snowing. It's snowed last week, but yesterday and today, it's snowing like winter snow. I wore my winter jacket to work. It's fucking cold, and I'm too old for this bullshit.

Huk-L, Monday, 18 October 2004 13:37 (twenty years ago)

It is pretty cold here too, though not snowing. Yesterday we had the big Fake Fictions photo shoot and we were out in this park on a tennis court and in the woods for like 3 hours and it was about 35-40 degrees the whole time. I think I almost got frostbite. But it was a fun experience, the photographer was using all this professional equipment and lights and so on and some of the stuff she's done in the past that she showed us was pretty amazing, so I think these pics will turn out really cool.
I am doing pretty good today except for having a case of the Mondays.

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 18 October 2004 13:44 (twenty years ago)

I'm actually always anticipating for the first snow of the winter. Usually it doesn't come until November, but sometimes it's here already in October. The first snow rarely stays on the ground for long, though, the permanent snow usually comes only in December. And then you can have snowball fights, go sleighing, do snow angels... I like snow.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 18 October 2004 13:44 (twenty years ago)

No snow in these parts (mountains are the exception) but this weekend was very rainy, which I actually quite enjoyed. Scrubs the sky clean and should be a sign of a good wet winter, which is long overdue.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 18 October 2004 13:46 (twenty years ago)

It's just, ah, depressing. This is what every day is going to look like at best until mid-march, if I'm lucky.

http://www.wascanalake.com/cam1.cfm

Okay, it sort of looks pretty, and the first snow actually covers a lot of the ugliness of this shitty town, but shit shit shitty shit.

Huk-L, Monday, 18 October 2004 13:55 (twenty years ago)

Is Saskatchewan even norther than Helsinki, or do you just get more snow? In here the snow lasts until mid-March too, but the permanent snow rarely comes this early.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 18 October 2004 13:58 (twenty years ago)

No snow in Massachusetts yet. Actually quite mild temp wise for this time of year. Although getting a bit colder in the mornings.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Monday, 18 October 2004 14:03 (twenty years ago)

Jocelyn is right actually PP, Rescue Remedy does really help. Although I'm never sure if it's just the alcohol solution calming my nerves but what the hell...

It's very good for staving off the imminent tears, anyway.

Archel (Archel), Monday, 18 October 2004 14:03 (twenty years ago)

I think we might be further south, and we don't get a lot of snow, being landlocked as we are. We're just poorly planned. We're built over a very large underground lake, and exposed to harsh arctic winds. And we've sold our soul to Satan.

Huk-L, Monday, 18 October 2004 14:05 (twenty years ago)

I can't wait for it to snow here.
What's this rescue remedy stuff then?

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Monday, 18 October 2004 14:11 (twenty years ago)

The trouble is, there aren't any hills here, so most of the fun things associated with snow, like skiing and sledding, are moot. All of the lame things, like shovelling and frostbite, are not.

I have no idea what I'm doing at work today. None.

Huk-L, Monday, 18 October 2004 14:13 (twenty years ago)

http://www.bachfloweressences.co.uk/dynamic/en/

Archel (Archel), Monday, 18 October 2004 14:21 (twenty years ago)

Uh, the text on that website sounds kinda New Agey... Flower remedy? Is that the same as aromatherapy?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 18 October 2004 14:32 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, ignore the new age stuff on the website, it's basically just an herbal concoction but I think the alcohol helps too. I used to put it in my tea. I think you can buy it at most natural food stores in the UK. It's three times as expensive here in the US. boo.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Monday, 18 October 2004 14:38 (twenty years ago)

Created by a Harley Street doctor in the 1930's, the Bach Original Flower Remedies are 38 plant and flower based remedies that can help you manage the emotional demands of everyday life. Each remedy aids a specific emotion. You can take them individually or mix them together to match the way you feel.

I accept the fact that stuff like this can generally make you feel better, if for placebo effect only, but saying that different flower extracts can alter "specific emotions" is kinda too much.

I don't want to offend anyone, it's just that I'm a hopeless rationalist.

(x-post)

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 18 October 2004 14:39 (twenty years ago)

If it's the alcohol that does the trick, why not just add a dose of whisky to your tea? ;-)

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 18 October 2004 14:40 (twenty years ago)

It's very new agey, not just kinda!

It's not like aromatherapy, it's more akin to homeopathy in being based on a holistic idea of illness/wellness and connecting emotional states to physical etc. It's not particularly new agey to use plant extracts for healing though.

Archel (Archel), Monday, 18 October 2004 14:42 (twenty years ago)

Healing, no, but controlling emotions, yes. As for homeopathy... Well, perhaps I shouldn't go down that road. I've had several arguments about these things, and I don't want to ruin this thread by starting another one. I guess it depends on Pink and what she believes in, whether or not she'd find this stuff useful.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 18 October 2004 14:50 (twenty years ago)

Why won't anyone tell me what happens at the end of Starship Troopers? At least not in a clear, comprehensive way?

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 18 October 2004 14:51 (twenty years ago)

My first post to you was completely honest. I don't think you missed much.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 18 October 2004 14:54 (twenty years ago)

There's a sequel, maybe that'll clear things up. I haven't seen either, so, like, beats me.

Huk-L, Monday, 18 October 2004 14:55 (twenty years ago)

But I didn't see how Denise Richards ends up getting rescued either? Does Rico just go in, blast away a bunch of bugs, and save the girl? Or does something more interesting happen?

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 18 October 2004 14:57 (twenty years ago)

Hey dudes,

I am sitting at home, aching but thanking the world for ibuprofen, and writing letters to me bank. Real old-timey letters, on paper, though I'll not go as far as to use a pen - the muscles that knew how to do that kind of thing are long atrophied.

I'm also getting round to (very belatedly, though I did download some at work a few weeks ago) listening to the Fake Fictions. I'll let you know what I think when I've listened to enough to form a strong opinion :)

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 18 October 2004 15:08 (twenty years ago)

The Saskacam looks very yellow and dingy.

Casuistry (Chris P), Monday, 18 October 2004 15:24 (twenty years ago)

Today is grey and rainy - and not in a good way.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 18 October 2004 16:39 (twenty years ago)

You're right, Chris, it looks like the sky is filled with urine clouds!

Huk-L, Monday, 18 October 2004 16:41 (twenty years ago)

I went wee-wee in a humidifier.

Huk-L, Monday, 18 October 2004 16:45 (twenty years ago)

Here is a moral question:
There is a girl I kind of know, who is a friend of a friend. I met her once at a social gathering that Sarah and I attended while staying with my friend when visiting Chicago for the first time. She works for a company that I would like to work for. Before we moved up here, I got in touch with her, and she told me about a couple of openings at that company, which I interviewed for and didn't get. I'm not sure if she recommended me to someone and that's how I got the interviews, or if it was just luck, but she did tell me about the openings. The place where I now work is literally like a block from this company, where this girl still works. Since I started working here, we've gotten together for lunch once, which was ok but she seemed kind of tense or something. I've emailed her about Fake Fictions shows and the two parties we've had, none of which she has attended. Other than that, I haven't made much of an effort to be friendly or social because I feel uncomfortable, like she doesn't really want to be friends and she just helped me as a favor to our mutual friend. I have no reason to think this, she has been generally friendly in every contact we have had and apologized by email for not being able to attend the parties and shows. I just applied for another job at this same company and emailed her again to ask her to put in a word for me, but did so in a way that gave her an out if she felt uncomfortable recommending me again, since I didn't get hired the other times. I also wrote that we should get together again for lunch sometime soon. She wrote back and said sure, she'd do what she could, and agreed we should lunch and what time was good for me.
Here are my questions:
1. Am I taking too much advantage of this connection? She already helped me get two interviews.
2. Should I get her some kind of gift to express my gratitude for her help, or would that just be weird? What kind of gift? Is paying for lunch sufficient or should I get something else?
3. How do I express that I view her as a cool person who I would like to be friends with, not just a business connection? Is it necessary to express this or will it just end up being creepy?

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 18 October 2004 18:58 (twenty years ago)

sound like she wants your loving

kephm (kephm), Monday, 18 October 2004 19:01 (twenty years ago)

If you get the job, give her a bottle of wine or something. If you don't get the job, drink the wine yourself and show up at her desk just in time to ralph all over it.

Huk-L, Monday, 18 October 2004 19:04 (twenty years ago)

Definitely pay for her lunch. Chat her up about every day stuff during said lunch.

Hey, maybe we could invite her and her bf over to dinner one night? WE could make dinner for them..?? (ie: I would help you) Just an idea.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 18 October 2004 19:13 (twenty years ago)

Eh...The dinner thing would be weird. We don't really know them and it would feel all awkward and it would still feel like we were doing something to thank her for recommending me instead of being naturally friendly.
I think the main problem is I have no business skillz and don't know how to deal with connections and the whole thing seems sleazy and makes me feel exploitive and guilty.

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 18 October 2004 19:18 (twenty years ago)

i dont get why you still feel sleazy after you wrote how you gave her "gave her an out" in the email. she obv wants to help you out and if you want the job, then you've got nothgin to lose. just treat it as a 'lunch date' with a coworker.

kephm (kephm), Monday, 18 October 2004 19:23 (twenty years ago)

I guess so. I'm not a very overanalytical person normally, I don't know why this situation makes me feel so neurotic.

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 18 October 2004 19:27 (twenty years ago)

It's ok, Nick. You've given her lots of opportunities to be social. If she helps you get this job, it will be cool. If not and/or if it's weird, you won't have to see her much after that if you don't want to...

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 18 October 2004 19:32 (twenty years ago)

Nick, lots of people consider helping people its own reward. I'm sure she didn't have to move heaven and earth to get you your interviews, but she'll have got a lot of satisfaction from being able to do something nice.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 18 October 2004 20:06 (twenty years ago)

So really, she owes me.

n/a (Nick A.), Monday, 18 October 2004 20:12 (twenty years ago)

Orgy.

Casuistry (Chris P), Monday, 18 October 2004 21:14 (twenty years ago)

In unrelated news, C@rl P0pe, director of teh Si3rr@ Club, was just in the office. He seems nice.

Casuistry (Chris P), Monday, 18 October 2004 21:14 (twenty years ago)

Nick, i wouldn't worry about it so much, if she helps you great, go out for lunch as friends & that's it. If you make too much of a big deal about thanking her, if you don't get the interview/job she might feel really crappy about it.

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 07:09 (twenty years ago)

I got a nice surprise when I got home yesterday...my wife had taken a half day secret style and went home and decorated the condo with birthday stuff! She had also cooked dinner and invited my friends over to celebrate and watch the game! What a nice wife. I love her.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 10:42 (twenty years ago)

and in bad news the heater fan in my car decided to stop working this morning, so if its not the fuse i will be buying a new car. Im not putting anymore money into this heap of shit.

Aww sounds lovely Chris, you should impregnate that woman!! ;-)

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 13:06 (twenty years ago)

Aw Pink. You deserve a nap. And ice cream. Lots.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 13:07 (twenty years ago)

I'm glad to hear all's well with your mum Pink. In situations like that, having a good cry from relief makes me feel better somehow.

Glad to hear things went well Pink. Relax...have some soup...wrap a hot towel around your head.

Rah for Pink and PinkMom!

Ned Raggett (Ned), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 13:19 (twenty years ago)

Wow, Nick. You're looking really hottt today.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 14:12 (twenty years ago)

you look like Frankenstein in that thing.

As posted on my b-day thread, for the 18th year in a row my "best friend" forgot to call me to wish me happy b-day. I remember his every year as well as his wife and daughters. So I emailed him telling him he was an ass. He replied with "i was too consumed with the game to call". Sometimes I question why i am still his friend.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 14:23 (twenty years ago)

At least he's consistent.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 19 October 2004 14:23 (twenty years ago)

you got that straight. at least i don't expect him to show up for a party like i used to since he moved away. every year he would be all down for going out for drinks on my b-day and then get smashed the night before and be too hungover for my b-day. I think I secretly want to punch him.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 14:29 (twenty years ago)

Why is this person your best friend?

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 14:35 (twenty years ago)

Besides the fact that he can be the biggest asshole alive....i really have no idea.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 14:36 (twenty years ago)

Chris, The secret's out.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 14:38 (twenty years ago)

In the words of my countryman, El Cee: "Here's to the few who forgive what you do,
and the fewer who don't even care."

which sometimes speaks to me greatly about the indifferent nature of friendship.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 19 October 2004 14:39 (twenty years ago)

So, it's still snowing here, big giant fluffy flakes, and the cloud coverage is low enough that it's not really that cold, and there's no wind, so it's really beautiful. traffic is crawling as you can't see to the end of the block even, and it's really serene outside.
i should call in sick. from my desk.
"Hi boss, this is Huck, I'm sick and won't be able to come in today."
"Uh, I can see you're already here."
"No I'm not, that must be my doppelganger, Shuck."

Huk-L, Tuesday, 19 October 2004 14:42 (twenty years ago)

Cheers all of you, hugs & good wishes much appreciated. xxxx

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 14:44 (twenty years ago)

One of my best friends forgets mine every year, too, Chris - I think we've talked about this before. Tell you what, you punch mine and I'll punch yours.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 19 October 2004 14:47 (twenty years ago)

Yep we do talk about it every year. He'll be coming up from Jersey saturday I guess, so I can punch him then. At least he's making the effort to come visit.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 14:51 (twenty years ago)

I've got an idea. How about both of you come here and punch the intern while I hold him down.
"Doin' some filing?"
"I'll file your fucking face!"

Huk-L, Tuesday, 19 October 2004 15:28 (twenty years ago)

"how ya like me now"

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 15:30 (twenty years ago)

that sounds like a plan.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 16:00 (twenty years ago)

Hello. A whole day without internet access! I did get a lot done, but by about 3 I was bored rigid.

Pink, hugs from me too - here's to a short and straightforward convalescence.

Still exhausted and not entirely well, but I'll live, I think. See you lot tomorrow.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 16:34 (twenty years ago)

Weird. I've never read one of these threads properly before now because I thought it was a bunch of friends just having a chat among themselves.

Julia, I have the same condition as you. I completely understand how debilitating and distressing it is. I just wanted to post something to express some support and solidarity.

It's so bad for me that I'm reduced to posting (for the most part) one-liners or very short comments because I can't organise my thoughts into anything more than that. Lately, I thought it was getting worse because I'm forgetting how to spell and constantly spend my time deleting and amending what I'm posting. The cognitive impairment in CFS/M.E./CFIDS has been compared to moderate Alzheimers and can be extremely scary.

(You wouldn't believe how long it's taken me just to write the above)

Anyway, please feel free to email me if you'd like to share therapies/experiences/whatever or even if you just want to scream about the unfairness of it all. My very best wishes to you.

I need to make a chart of ILXors to keep track of everyone. Is Jocelyn the wife of Nordicskillz Adam? Or am I off my nut?

Huk-L, Tuesday, 19 October 2004 18:38 (twenty years ago)

No...adam's wife is named s@r@h, and as far as I know, she doesn't post to ILX ever.

Argh, I have to write lyrics for this new song so we can work on it at practice tonight and I can't think of anything to write lyrics about or even a good starting line. I am totally uninspired.

Huk-l, Tuesday, 19 October 2004 18:53 (twenty years ago)

Nope. I hate relationships currently.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 18:57 (twenty years ago)

I am totally uninspired.

Duuuuude. You need some weeeeed?

Lifted, or, the story is 'neath my ass (kenan), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 18:57 (twenty years ago)

Sorry, Jocelyn. Really.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 19 October 2004 18:58 (twenty years ago)

i'm turning 30 on Saturday. I believe I will drink Scotch and listen to records to commemorate the occasion.

Lifted, or, the story is 'neath my ass (kenan), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 18:58 (twenty years ago)

Or we can go out and PAR-TAY!!!@!!!!@!@!@!!!!!!!@!@!

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 19:02 (twenty years ago)

I fear this birthday.

Lifted, or, the story is 'neath my ass (kenan), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 19:02 (twenty years ago)

Hell, I fear any birthday.

Lifted, or, the story is 'neath my ass (kenan), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 19:02 (twenty years ago)

I wish I wasn't terrified of driving in Chicago or I would come up and party with you kids.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 19:02 (twenty years ago)

DO IT. Driving is easy. You just have to drive slow and careful and ignore any beeping horns or middle fingers. Take your own pace.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 19:04 (twenty years ago)

Kenan, we WILL go out and party this weekend.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 19:05 (twenty years ago)

It is NECESSARY.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 19:05 (twenty years ago)

30s are better than 20s. Hands down.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 19:10 (twenty years ago)

30 is okay, really. (xp--i love to hear that, my 20s were teh suck)

And happy belated, Chris V, btw! I was eating great quantities of cake in your honor (or that's how I justified it), but didn't actually post.

Penelope, thanks for your post. I hate to hear of someone else going through this shit, but it's nice when someone understands. i emailed you.

many many hugs for pink, glad your mom's done with surgery...

JuliaA (j_bdules), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 19:11 (twenty years ago)

Okay, Nick. I'll have to balance having dinner with the girl and going out later, I guess. You *know* she won't come with me. History speaks for itself.

Lifted, or, the story is 'neath my ass (kenan), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 19:14 (twenty years ago)

WE WILL KIDNAP HER!!! We need more estrogen in the Chicago ILXor hang-out pool.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 19:16 (twenty years ago)

Fun ruiner.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 19:16 (twenty years ago)

MORE ESTROGEN=WE also NEED jocelyn to come up.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 19:17 (twenty years ago)

I don't she'd like being kidnapped.

Lifted, or, the story is 'neath my ass (kenan), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 19:19 (twenty years ago)

I think I may just take the bus, as long as I can crash at someone's.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 19:19 (twenty years ago)

That's more like a home invasion than a kidnapping, either way, felonies are awesome! Wish I was there.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 19 October 2004 19:23 (twenty years ago)

I wanna play, too!

Darn IL for being so far away.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 19:24 (twenty years ago)

meanwhile I'm really bored - lots of email, please.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 19:28 (twenty years ago)

luna, write lyrics for our song. I got nothing.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 19:29 (twenty years ago)

Ha ha, you Chicagoans put the IL in ILX. Kill me now.

Huk-L, Tuesday, 19 October 2004 19:29 (twenty years ago)

My coworker brought in these "Stress Control Biofeedback Cards," which are basically those heat-sensing things we used to play with as kids, where you put your hand on it and it turns from black into blue, green, and red, depending on how warm different parts of your hand are. I've been having way too much fun with it, blowing on it to make it all blue and then putting it down on the cold table and watching the colors change really fast. WHEEEEE!

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 19:33 (twenty years ago)

I CAN'T FUCKING HANDLE IT, IT'S TOO MUCH EXCITEMENT YEEEEAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!!!

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 19:39 (twenty years ago)

Decaf sweetheart, de-CAF.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 19:40 (twenty years ago)

Oh who am I kidding? I'd do the same thing.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 19:40 (twenty years ago)

Thanks Julia, emailed you back.

We're brave and positive, dammit!

Penelope_111 (Penelope_111), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 19:41 (twenty years ago)

jocelyn, if you're seriously interested in coming up to hang out, I revived one of the Chicago FAP threads to discuss plans (though right now it's just me and jaymc being silly).

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 19:42 (twenty years ago)

O, I am serious. Greyhound here I come.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 19:44 (twenty years ago)

I have moved over to the FAPping thread.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 19:46 (twenty years ago)

We used to have those when I was little, but they were thermometers of sorts.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 19:49 (twenty years ago)

I'll write song lyrics - just tell me what it's supposed to be about and don't blame me when it sucks.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 19:50 (twenty years ago)

Luna's a Yoko! (j/k)

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 19:52 (twenty years ago)

whoa, that's harsh dude.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 19:54 (twenty years ago)

It can be about whatever you want. Not much help, I know, but if I could think of a good subject I'd be half way there myself.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 19:55 (twenty years ago)

Write a song about all the bad drivers in L.A. You could write a ballad, even.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 19:58 (twenty years ago)

Rats. Ok, I'll see what I can come up with.

Don't hold your breath.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 19:59 (twenty years ago)

Hey! Just checking in and wishing you all a jolly good British evening. Especially Penelope who I'm very glad is on this thread.

Markelby (Mark C), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 20:15 (twenty years ago)

I have "All I Want For Christmas Is You" by M4ri4h C4r3y stuck in my head.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 20:21 (twenty years ago)

Wasn't that by Bon Jovi? Or what was the Bon Jovi Christmas single called?

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 20:22 (twenty years ago)

"Please Come Home For Christmas"

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 20:24 (twenty years ago)

Ah, okay, they're kind of easy to mix up.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 20:26 (twenty years ago)

I have this ridiculously cute xmasy song stuck in my head from this romantic comedy that came out last year. Shit, what was it called? Love Actually.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 20:31 (twenty years ago)

It's the same song as Jeanne's "I don't want a lot for Christmas la dee da dee da..." I am sad that I know this. And I don't remember math for the GREs.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 20:34 (twenty years ago)

I am seriously craving a falafel and hummus pita right now. MMMMMMM.

n/a (Nick A.), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 20:35 (twenty years ago)

I thought that said 'hummus pie' and thought HMMMMM.

I think I just want pie.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 20:36 (twenty years ago)

I like "Please Come Home For Christmas" more. It was sadder because, at least in the video, she didn't.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 20:36 (twenty years ago)

P I E. m m m m m m m m.

I want some fruit cobbler too.

The one thing I'll miss about Thanksgiving this year is the wide variety of pies, and sweet potato casserole...

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 20:37 (twenty years ago)

I would like falafel too. Or to get laid. Or pie. It doesn't matter at this point.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 20:38 (twenty years ago)

Anyone feel like screaming with me? If so, please hop on over to my new thread where I scream alot: H E R E !!!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 20:39 (twenty years ago)

Mmmm, getting laid...

Tuomas (Tuomas), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 20:39 (twenty years ago)

I admit to really kind of LOVING that M4ri4h song. It's unbearably cute and pop-tastic and it has bells in it.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 20:42 (twenty years ago)

I know what you mean, Jeanne. Bring on the bells!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 20:43 (twenty years ago)

I would like getting laid and pie.

luna (luna.c), Tuesday, 19 October 2004 20:44 (twenty years ago)

So I just, just a few minutes ago, had this huge epiphany that life is terrible and people are terrible and it's all terrible and that it's no one's fault but it's just terrible.

I mean, I knew this, but I just had that epiphany feeling connected with it. I don't know why. Next I'm going to have an epiphany that cats are furry and cute.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 00:32 (twenty years ago)

That's not an epiphany, it's a funk.

Lifted, or, the story is 'neath my ass (kenan), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 00:57 (twenty years ago)

I'm just saying it felt like an epiphany.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 01:11 (twenty years ago)

A big hug to y'all on this thread to say thanks for all being so supportive & ready with kind words. I know I have been going on about things & I am sorry for that, it's just been all I could think about. anyways, thanks guys! *mwah*

Penelope - it's good to see you on this thread lady, pls stick around & if you can only manage one-liners, so be it! :-)

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 07:08 (twenty years ago)

sugar, you have every right and reason to talk about what's happening in your life, and we're here to support you xoxox

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 07:10 (twenty years ago)

Cheers hun. x How are you?

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 07:15 (twenty years ago)

I'm ok. Wide awake at 1:20 am, which will suck in the morning, and getting hit on in ims by someone using Anthony's screenname, but otherwise, ok.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 07:18 (twenty years ago)

That weirdness with Anth happened to me too. Which was especially weird since I was having a normal chat with him at the time.

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 07:28 (twenty years ago)

Maybe a couple of tequilas & then bed?

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 07:33 (twenty years ago)

Morning all! (And a brand new Hi to Penelope.)

I know I'm practically a married woman and also should certainly not be perving on my students but: never mind the boys of summer, the boys of winter are teh cute, are they not??? All those cosy duffel coats and woolly scarves and rosy cheeks! Rowr.

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 08:01 (twenty years ago)

Morning from me too. I shouldn't be on her so early, oh no, as that tends to mean I get bugger all work done and teh sack. But hey.

I am enjoying the pie talk, and I'm happy that Tuomas gets laid (though I'm surprised he's mentioning it now - as we all know, he has hundreds of supercute female friends, all of whom he makes happy love to every day in that super-liberal Scando way). If only there was some obvious solution that would mean both Luna and Jeanne got laid...

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 08:44 (twenty years ago)

Well i think the solution is in the statement right there mark! ;-)

ARCHEL!! I am shocked! ;-)

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 08:55 (twenty years ago)

Maybe Brighton is going through a cold patch, but I walked to work in a short-sleeved shirt and my light jacket today and I was a bit warm.

Pink, whatever could you meam? ;)

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 08:57 (twenty years ago)

I think my identity must have been hijacked temporarily mark, i didn't type that! ;-)

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 08:59 (twenty years ago)

There are more winkies here than at a Tourettes convention - perhaps we ought to put on our serious faces.

:|

There we go.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 09:01 (twenty years ago)

You guys are making me happy with the winking!

sgs (sgs), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 09:01 (twenty years ago)

8¬|

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 09:02 (twenty years ago)

Woah, that is serious. And somehow seventies.

Sarah, did you really block out an ILX hour this morning? ;)

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 09:04 (twenty years ago)

What about with a beard? 8¬}~

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 09:06 (twenty years ago)

haha no mark. I'm cutting into the time for dishwashing :/
That's totally a beatnik beard, Pink

sgs (sgs), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 09:14 (twenty years ago)

Haha!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 09:20 (twenty years ago)

For some reasons Pink's emoticon reminds me of Sideshow Bob, who I can only suppose has a mouth like Rio Ferdinand a vertical tilde.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 09:22 (twenty years ago)

haha, it does!!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 09:29 (twenty years ago)

It is warm today, but yesterday it was cold and the boys were HOTT! ;)

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 09:37 (twenty years ago)

I'm imagining you with poodle hair and leather trousers belting that line into a microphone (a minimalist 80s style one, you know, without the foam afro bit), Archie.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 09:38 (twenty years ago)

Well, in my head, most of my utterances ARE like that...

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 09:42 (twenty years ago)

Kenan, welcome to the club.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 09:49 (twenty years ago)

I thought he was already a paid up member?!!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 09:51 (twenty years ago)

Hey Chris! Been gamblin' and bonin' lately? I envy your life.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 09:54 (twenty years ago)

Indeed!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 10:09 (twenty years ago)

You guys. I gambled all weekend. Only for small money, $10 games. I won once and my godamn sister beat me once. Its been a rough week with all this baseball killing me and taking me off my game.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 10:16 (twenty years ago)

and I meant welcome to the 30 club Kenan.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 10:17 (twenty years ago)

I'm happy that Tuomas gets laid (though I'm surprised he's mentioning it now - as we all know, he has hundreds of supercute female friends, all of whom he makes happy love to every day in that super-liberal Scando way).

Haha, actually I'm more of a you're-like-my-gay-best-friend type of guy, I get along with girls better than with guys, but rarely are they interested in me in a romantic way.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 10:23 (twenty years ago)

Girls are dumb, huh?

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 10:59 (twenty years ago)

We is, we is!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 11:02 (twenty years ago)

So, how do I maintain a healthy irritation at not being allowed to participate in the second half of our termly dept. meeting, when at the same time I don't really want to be at the meeting in the first place?

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 11:02 (twenty years ago)

Bitch about not going to the relevant ppl & then when they cave & say 'you should come' say 'I'm not going to on general principle!' innit?!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 11:04 (twenty years ago)

Yes... except they won't say 'you should come', because 'someone has to cover reception'. Funny how 'someone' always = me. Even when I'm doen on the agenda to be giving a report!

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 11:12 (twenty years ago)

Ask 'em whether you should give the report via video conferencing with a completely straight face.

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 11:16 (twenty years ago)

Ha, perfect!

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 11:17 (twenty years ago)

I thank you, now get to it young lady!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 11:18 (twenty years ago)

Girls are dumb, huh?

The cynic in me would say that most girls still want a guy who has has different (ie. masculine) traits than them, not someone too feminine.

I'm making big generalizations here, I know.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 11:19 (twenty years ago)

I think a bit of both tbh.

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 11:37 (twenty years ago)

I've just heard my mum say "so what's the best way of us getting to Bono and The Edge?" - I think a hit may be on the cards.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 11:46 (twenty years ago)

Good morning, everyone. Yesterday basically sucked, but today will be better, right??

Casu, I get that feeling sometimes. I mean, take this coworker of mine: Her son just caught her husband in bed with his alcoholic wife (who recently cheated on him with two other guys in rehab). So she literally snuck out of her house and then served her husband divorce papers after 45 years of marriage. And her son was so traumatized, that he developed a heart problem and had to have surgery yesterday.

But at the same time, my life is pretty good. Life's not fair.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 12:41 (twenty years ago)

God I am so very tired, I really could just fall asleep at my desk.

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 12:42 (twenty years ago)

I got toally lost in pronouns there, Sarah... sounds bad though :/

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 12:43 (twenty years ago)

haha, i couldn't quite follow that story either Arch!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 12:45 (twenty years ago)

I think im going to go out after work today and blow some coin on a new surround sound system and a receiver.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 12:48 (twenty years ago)

Nice!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 12:48 (twenty years ago)

I'm jealous, Chris!

I was saying her husband was caught doing it with her daughter-in-law (ie: her son's wife). Said son was traumatized...?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 12:51 (twenty years ago)

Ah! I thought it must be that, rather than his own wife ie herself...

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 12:53 (twenty years ago)

Ah I missed that one! euw!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 12:59 (twenty years ago)

I'm rockin the lipstick today which is the official sign of autum's presence.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 13:08 (twenty years ago)

It all sounds a bit far-fetched to me, Sarah. Is this one of your less bright co-workers?

Jeanne - pics plz!

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 13:10 (twenty years ago)

i hate my job i hate my job i hate my job

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 13:11 (twenty years ago)

jeanne - which shade?
Archel - well lady, you've come to the right thread!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 13:12 (twenty years ago)

actually i should be on Sarah's 'i hate my fuxoring job' thread i suppose, but i can't articulate enough.

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 13:14 (twenty years ago)

ha ha, but I don't articulate at all on there - I just scream. :-D

Actually, this coworker does not seem dim at all, just fairly old and sad. From what I know, her husband has always been a jerk to her. She doesn't have any happy memories EVER of being with him. I suspect she was attracted to his domineering masculinity and became a victim of emotional abuse, but I wouldn't say she was dumb. At least she's finally getting out of that bad situation. I'm just saying some people's lives depress me.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 13:17 (twenty years ago)

My guts are acting weird this morning and I don't want to be at work. I have this feeling of dread but I'm not sure why, like the feeling when you've done something bad and you're worried you're going to get caught, but I haven't done anything.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 13:18 (twenty years ago)

Totally! It makes you think that yours (the royal) is not so bad after all.
x-post
haven't done anything yet!! It's just nerves probably.

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 13:20 (twenty years ago)

Shade = Chanel's "Mousse"

No pix to be had seeing as how my bro is the one with the camera and I won't be seeing him till Sunday.

That's a sad story, Sarah. My mother counsels women like that.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 13:21 (twenty years ago)

I feel liek that a lot at work, nick.

Archel (Archel), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 13:23 (twenty years ago)

What was all that emoticon abuse above? I protest.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 13:29 (twenty years ago)

I like this one:

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 13:33 (twenty years ago)

No ned, it was all for the good of the emoticon!!
That was my serious emoticon face sarah!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 13:36 (twenty years ago)

Whoa, my life seems to have gotten somewhat exciting, or at least exciting for it being my life. On the top of all the stuff I've already mentioned, I just ran into someone I had a huge crush on last year, and whom I hadn't seen for a while. It was a quick meeting, as she was in a hurry, but we decided to go out for a coffee next monday. There's definitely nothing between us anymore though, but she was as sweet and lovable as ever.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 14:29 (twenty years ago)

oh, but it was all so cute (emoticonery--xp). (gmorning all!)

JuliaA (j_bdules), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 14:32 (twenty years ago)

Hey Julia! How are you doing today petal?

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 14:39 (twenty years ago)

Madge! I soaked in it!

Huk-L, Wednesday, 20 October 2004 14:41 (twenty years ago)

hello! doing okay. they're fixing the heat in my building, and it was just supposed to be yesterday, but i guess it's today too, because the heat is off and it's cold. at least it's not 20 out or something.

reading a journal entry of dee's reminded me that people should say 'hey nonny nonny' more often. just because.

JuliaA (j_bdules), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 14:43 (twenty years ago)

Tuomas, you surely meant to say "I just ran into someone I had a huge crush on last year, and whom I hadn't seen for a while, but still, we lay down and made sweet, friendly sex there and then. It was a quick meeting, only three orgasms each, as she was in a hurry, but we decided to go out and make no-strings hott lovin' and then for a coffee next monday. There's definitely nothing between us anymore though other than the penetrative intercourse, but she was as sweet and lovable as ever while I was inside her, smiling.

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 14:43 (twenty years ago)

Maybe I should adjust my convictions about Tuomas's life. I guess all the photos he posts just look so perfect and idyllic it's hard to believe he isn't constantly enjoying the fucking.

< /envy >

Markelby (Mark C), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 14:45 (twenty years ago)

Er, I think you might've gotten the wrong impression on how frequent my sex life is.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 14:46 (twenty years ago)

Yes, Mark, like you never look perfect in all the pics that you post. ;) (oh no)

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 14:46 (twenty years ago)

You're right of course Jocelyn, Mark never looks perfect in his pics! :-)

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 14:48 (twenty years ago)

I've probably mentioned this before, but all my friends are girls. That's why I'm surrounded by them in my pics. This doesn't, however, mean that I'm having sex with them!

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 14:49 (twenty years ago)

Okay, "all" might've been an exaggeration, obviously I know some guys as well, but the number of close male friends I have is exactly one.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 14:51 (twenty years ago)

Somebody hit me in the head. I stayed up until 230 am watching Van Helsing and those are hours of my life LOST FOREVER.

Also, I'm sleepy now.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 14:52 (twenty years ago)

What about the Professor Dude, he must get some ass?

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 14:52 (twenty years ago)

I dunno, and I'm not about to ask.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 14:55 (twenty years ago)

I like how Chris's post out of context is just so him.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 14:55 (twenty years ago)

Luna *punch* I hope that's ok!! :-) See y'all tomorrow guys! xxx

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 14:56 (twenty years ago)

Now I kinda wish I'd never posted any pictures here. You guys sure know how to drag innocence down to dirt...

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 14:56 (twenty years ago)

(Ned, it's not out of context.)

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 14:56 (twenty years ago)

instead, tickle her until she wets herself.

Lifted, or, the story is 'neath my ass (kenan), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 14:58 (twenty years ago)

Well, I did ask...

And anyway, I already almost wet my pants after the Sox game last night, please don't make me do it again.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 15:03 (twenty years ago)

My Boston-area born and raised coworker came in today with both his jersey and cap on. I suspect tonight will cause many heart attacks.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 15:04 (twenty years ago)

Bye, Pink!

It's such a sad thing for me when the UK posters log off for the day.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 15:13 (twenty years ago)

I feel a great deal better now than I did this morning. I got a bunch of work done and I'm looking forward to company-purchased pizza for lunch today. And I'm excited about purchasing the Arrested Development season one DVD tonight, and perchance even doing laundry.

n/a (Nick A.), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 15:18 (twenty years ago)

I don't want to talk about Red Sox stuff anymore today, its going to kill the karma. Tuomas, its a joke...relax, no hard feelings.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 15:26 (twenty years ago)

Glad you miss us, Sarah! And Jocelyn, I was initially delighted with your compliment, but then there were not one but two qualifications on the end and it's hard to figure out what you were really trying to say :)

I only found out today what was going on with the Red Sox. I WANT NORTH AMERICAN SPORTS NETWORK! WAAAH! Even though it'd be on too late for me to watch the games. But still. I heart baseball. Come on you Sox!

Tuomas, I am really sorry for being such a boor. I know you're a sweet, lovely guy who happens to have loads of ace cute friends - the problem is that I have to hang out with ILXors. How can that be fair!?! insert enormous winky smile here

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 15:42 (twenty years ago)

Mark (and Chris), I wasn't mad at you for real... I kinda wish my life would actually be as exciting as you suggest though.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 15:49 (twenty years ago)

Who knows, it could be in the future! ;)

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 15:50 (twenty years ago)

Ahh, everywhere seems to be having "adopt-a-pet" drives and I just feel so bad for not being able to take in every homeless animal on earth and give it love. There are dogs on campus today.
Mark, the (oh no) was conditional to my use of the winky face. But you probably knew that already.
I think Tuomas's professor with the dodgy 'tache gets lots of lovin.

when i'm not working a day job, i can't nearly keep up with this thread.

anyhoo, i was on the local news last night! they sent a camera crew out to the corner where we were standing with out voter signs, and interviewed me for a bit. i got about two sentences in, and several shots during the "here's how folks are getting out the vote" montage.

oh yeah, and i was wearing my luchador mask & cape and dancing like a jackass, too. such fun.

Sir Kingfish Beavis D'Azzmonch (Kingfish), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 18:58 (twenty years ago)

This is the post where I go back to posting - just for now - the kind of stuff I started this thread where I say for in the beginning:

I'm so excited that the Sox pushed game 7.
I love rainy days, but some of the magic is taken away when it rains 5 days straight. I'm stuck in the office anyway, so it's not like I can enjoy them. I still jump in puddles outside my house, though.
I've felt somehow revitalized in the last couple days.
I think I fixed something that was almost a major fuck up at work.
Nothing has come of my job interview, but that's okay. I wasn't all that hot about working for the other side anyway. I'll look again after the new year. (Hel-LO Xmas bonus).
I'm really amazed that this thread is now into it's 21st incarnation - that means it's of legal age to drink! Or something.
It's really cool when you find people who understand where you're coming from and what you're about.

I still, after all these posts, really dig all of you.

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 19:01 (twenty years ago)

A few years ago, it rained here for something like 44 days straight. I was on vacation in Colorado for two weeks in the middle of that, so it didn't get to me as much as it got to everyone else, but still!

Casuistry (Chris P), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 19:27 (twenty years ago)

Luna, I love the posts that you started this thread for.

Orbit (Orbit), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 19:28 (twenty years ago)

luna (luna.c), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 19:49 (twenty years ago)

Sorry I've been largely absent here - it's been a strange and difficult time. My health has stayed bad - I've worked a total of about four weeks in the last three months, in odd days here and there, because of desperately crippling panic attacks (not just about work at all - anything really). On Monday work told me that from now on I will have to get a note from the doctor for every day I am off (the normal rules in the UK are that you get this for absences in excess of one week) and I have a meeting with management and HR next week, where I will be told that if I miss more than X days (I'll find out what X is then) in the next six months, I'm out.

So it's make or break time for me right now - my panic attacks come when I want to go shopping or anything, so the idea of applying for new jobs and going to interviews is completely beyond me, and since I am suffering from serious depression, losing my job (and consequently my home and so on) would completely break me. The up side is that the last couple of days (yay, I've got to work three days running, for the first time in over two months) I've been able to think "I have no choice," and that has helped, so there is a chance I can make it. I have been in this kind of bad state before, and I've somehow found enough strength to get through, despite feeling as if I was at my limits already. I'm not as miserable as I was a month or so back (you may have seen the absurdly melodramatic thread I started then, which I deeply regret), and not at all suicidal, I should emphasise.

On top of this, the person I love most is going through a very bad time right now, and I am unable to help in any real way, and that is getting me down too - but again looking on the bright side, thinking about someone else, wanting to help and comfort, caring more about someone else than myself, does stop me moping about myself all the time and getting too miserably self-centred (he says, as he explains how someone else's personal tragedy has a good side for me).

I'm still reading this, and caring about many people here.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 20:02 (twenty years ago)

I have been in this kind of bad state before, and I've somehow found enough strength to get through, despite feeling as if I was at my limits already.

It's true it's true it's true. I've felt that about my own stuff, anyway. Hang in there, Martin. Sometimes it seems like it takes a hell of a long fucking time for things to change and improve, but they do. They will. It can be really hard to even imagine improvement sometimes, but meanwhile, you'll get through.

And *mwah* to all of you. I'm in a good mood the past few days, despite some shittiness going on. (I guess I'm not affected by the weather).

JuliaA (j_bdules), Wednesday, 20 October 2004 20:12 (twenty years ago)

Hi Martin, hoping all the best for you. At least it's good to hear you're better than you were a month ago.

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Thursday, 21 October 2004 12:13 (twenty years ago)

Orbit, Sam has been taking a break from ILX for a while.

I saw the end of the game last night. For someone who has always been as far from a sports fan as possible, I've become quite the Red Sox follower in the past week or so.

I want in on all this kissin'!

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 21 October 2004 13:09 (twenty years ago)

Does anyone have any info on Sam, how's she doing? The last time I saw her posting here it wasn't so good.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Thursday, 21 October 2004 13:11 (twenty years ago)

I need kisses, too. Especially after the goddamn piece of shit bum Yankees blew it. I know there's a lot of Bosox love on this thread, but I gotta represent. Well, at least I have to represent to say how utterly fucking disgusted I am with those pinstriped bums. But a friend said to me "If the Sox wins, it means Kerry will win in the election," so I can live with it. Now someone kiss me, goddamnit.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Thursday, 21 October 2004 13:14 (twenty years ago)

Love for Jeanne and happiness for Chris and Luna. Good wishes all around!

So Chris, if the Sox win the series, are you just going to take the rest of the year off and dance around?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 21 October 2004 13:18 (twenty years ago)

Eating beef makes me terribly lethargic in the afternoons. Yawn.

Jeanne, an affectionate but chaste peck from me - though I'm pretty sure that's not the kind of thing you're after. Perhaps now's the time to look at stats detailing the Yankees past success - that's what I do when I remember that my team is at the 8th level of football in Britain despite having a glorious 14 years in the top flight AND winning the top cup competition. Sigh.

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 21 October 2004 13:23 (twenty years ago)

A bit late, but however, thanks, you bunch of nice people!

I don't know why
This dancing doesn't mean a lot to me
All that it does is make me want to be
All alone with you tonight
When I feel you by my side
I go ape

This room is filled with possibilities
Hush now listen and you'll hear
Something bordering on weird
Can you hear

No exaggeration, no hallucination
I can hear it singing now

It's a song that sings itself
It's a song that sings itself
Twelve o'clock and all is well

Young fools are we
We think we own the world and own the stars
And yet in fact we barely own our cars
But in moments such as these
There are future memories
You will see

No exaggeration, no hallucination
I can hear it singing now
Dim all the lights
Squeeze me so tight that logic flies from me

It's a song that sings itself
It's a song that sings itself
Twelve o'clock and all is well

I just got back from a fancy pants press lunch at a swwwwanky restaurant...for an event for the Nat'l Dog Somethingorother Association. WEIRD people. And the dude who co-wrote "Copacabana" with Barry M4nil0w was there with his champion doggie. So surreal.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Thursday, 21 October 2004 17:38 (twenty years ago)

Please tell me his dog was named Lola.

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Thursday, 21 October 2004 17:39 (twenty years ago)

Copacabana is one of the most underrated songs out there. We performed it at one of our very first shows.

Casuistry (Chris P), Thursday, 21 October 2004 17:40 (twenty years ago)

Nope, "India." She was indeed a showgirl, though.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Thursday, 21 October 2004 17:41 (twenty years ago)

That's a nice name for a fancy pants dog.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Thursday, 21 October 2004 17:45 (twenty years ago)

The lady I sat next to was telling me about how her champion dog's testicle "finally dropped" and how thrilled she was. I smiled. The word "bitch" was being thrown around like we was gangstas. I got to say the phrase "alpha bitch" over and over. "So she's your alpha bitch, is that correct? She's a marvelous bitch. And so well behaved!" I kill me.

this is the thread where i say: he lived until he died. his last thought was likely "tell them to leave my website alone". he lived grand mal, and i hope he died in his sleep. throwing up black before going to the hospital, where the spleen collapsed, I know he kicked and screamed to keep from going: "Don't be a geek". He never wanted to go to the hospital. I tried to take him once when he had a broken rib a few months ago and he fought with me until I retreated, announcing "you make me have to pee." That's how we were. He's gone now, and so am I, in a manner of drinking, thinking what would he say about my temporary madness? "Bury yourself in your work! Sublimate!". I've been crying for four hours now and it shows no sign of stopping. This hurts. And I know the mess everything is in. A fatherless boy, not equipped to understand, live through this. My close friend, ripped from his friends in the night, when his heart stopped. I didn't see him before he went. I know they all are wailing, but not as loud as me.

Orbit (Orbit), Friday, 22 October 2004 01:32 (twenty years ago)

Hi, Orbit. I'm very sorry to hear that. It sounds like this is someone worth wailing over. My thoughts are with you.

Huk-L, Friday, 22 October 2004 04:07 (twenty years ago)

(I don't mean to self-promote in the middle of Orbit's wailing, but I want to mention this before I go to bed: My band is doing a live! radio! show on KPSU, which you can tune into tomorrow -- Friday! -- at www.kpsu.org at 5 Pacific, 8 Eastern, and some crazy time Sask. We might not start promptly at 5.)

Sorry about that. I hope you've managed to get to sleep already, Orbit. Be well.

I am bound forevermore to be Lame Dorky Fangirl, regardless of my Second or Third Class Citizenship in the Fan Universe. *sighs* I just stayed up to watch "Last Call with Carson Daly" to, um, watch THEM. Dudes, CARSON FUCKING DALY, i.e. the LAST guy I thought I'd actually want to watch on TV. And he actually (*gasp*) did a halfway decent job with the interview, though he made the same factual errors every single other individual seems to be making. And I'm... falling apart. Tiiiiiiiiired. So I'll have to post this and then shuffle this undefined blob of pathetic nothingness off to bed.

Ha, that was a good article! Though I wish I had the "terrible job" of having to listen to every cd released in one month.
Not much to report here. We looked at the proofs of the band photos last night, and they are pretty incredible. Because I'm so hot. Just kidding, because the photographer did a really good job. We'll put them up on the website when we have access to the real things so you all can see them.
I was very overcaffeinated yesterday and so I managed to get a hell of a lot done. As a result, (and because my boss won't be in today), I plan to take it very very easy today.

* Our Apocalyptic Future (two songs)

Also our tribute to lusty and desperate teenage lesbians at Aspen!

Oh and they are all doing some sort of thing that costs $10 so while they do that I'll sit out on the parking lot drinking mad dog or something equally disgusting because I do not HAVE ten bucks and... Thanks for putting up w/ my wailing, dear thread. And thanks Dee for our AIM chat, you are the best. Thanks to all for their kind thoughts. Luna my heart goes out to you and your friend who is in a coma, please accept my sincerest *hugs*.

I think I am posting kind of as a distraction, poor ILE! I'm sure I will become cheerful again, not such a bummer on the thread of cheer.

In trying to think of the good things today, and not be a bummer, I have come up with a list of good things about today:

-It is not raining
-I get good gas mileage
-I can post to keep my mind kind of away from dwelling on things
-I have TiVo
-I have food bars so I don't have to cook (I lose all cooking ability when upset)
-TCM doesn't have commercials
-I can sit in my pyjamas all day if I want to

I'm sorry people seem to be having a bad day today--maybe it sounds corny but you probably have your own list and if you think about it maybe the day won't seem so bad.

Mandee, as long as you didn't want to do something really expensive can your friends spot you, or just invite you for drinks or something? Hell, I'd meet you somewhere and spot you $20--I'll probably be in LA later on and for the weekend also. Or maybe just don't go to the Bday party-it sounds pretty miserable! Be comfy, it's important.

Orbit (Orbit), Friday, 22 October 2004 18:15 (twenty years ago)

Orbit, you don't know my friends.. they NEVER spot me :( Plus all my friends are going to the aforementioned friend's birthday party.

battlin' green eyeshades (Homosexual II), Friday, 22 October 2004 18:17 (twenty years ago)

Hey Mands. I've had a crappy day too, though only, if I'm honest, because I got so cross when our restaurant booking turned out to be phantom and I've never cheered up. Sarah is trying womanfully to make me happy with some success - mainly success through talking about sweet sweet ribs. If you ever want to chat we're both here and would love to talk to you!

What is the difference between a Bazaar and a Craft Sale? I don't think there is one, as far as church groups go.

Huk-L, Friday, 22 October 2004 19:02 (twenty years ago)

Bazaars feature any old crap from the attic, but the Craft Sale sells things made by the Crafts group, who gather together regularly to make Crafts.

Pink, sweetie, I hope you've been taking very good care of yourself. You deserve it after all that you've gone through.
Tuomas, you are so cute and "sensitive post-modern male". Don't ever change, please.
Happy belated birthday wishes go out to Chris V! So sorry for not mentioning this on the actual day.
Je4nne, here's to better days for you and an end to all that frustration you seem to be building up.
All you northerners, I'm jealous of you. I want snow too! Or at least weather cool enough to put sweaters on.
luna, you are a truly awesome and amazingly grand individual. Just wanted to let you know that.
Mark, I hope you're taking care of yourself, as well. (Also, please beat the shit out of SLB for me, thanks.)
Penelope, I hope you and Julia are burning the private communication lines between the two of you. And welcome to TITTWIS!
(Also welcome to jocelyn -- sorry if I haven't said that before!)
Kenan, happy 30th birthday. I know we have our disagreements, but I will always think of you as a fundamentally awesome personage.
Julia, I hope you've got a giant cake or pie somewhere near you that you can scarf down, um, whenevAH. (Also -- I miss you on AIM!)
Chris P, I hope you've been able to regain at least some of your faith in humanity. Not all humans out there are shit.

And that's all I can do "catch-up with replies"-wise right now.

Markelby (Mark C), Saturday, 23 October 2004 08:22 (twenty years ago)

Time for a new thread?

Sarah and I are sitting around in the bedroom right now, revelling in Saturday morning relaxedness, her reading a photobook on early photographs of Roehampton/Putney (where I live), me posting on ILX and looking for cheap designer gear on eBay. Which reminds me - what on earth does "Arkansas fit" mean relating to a pair of jeans? Even Sarah's Arkansas background is shedding no light.

Markelby (Mark C), Saturday, 23 October 2004 09:28 (twenty years ago)

Tuomas, you are so cute and "sensitive post-modern male". Don't ever change, please.

Haha, in other words "everyone thinks you're gay".

Just kidding. ;-) Thanks for the kind words Dee, you're sweet and cute too.

Mandee, it sounds kinda weird if your friends wouldn't borrow you the ten bucks even if they knew you were broke, and instead make you wait on the parking lot. But, of course, I don't know the whole situation, so I don't wanna make any judgements. Anyway, you should go the party, parties are always nice, or at least to me they are. As I've grown older I've come to prefer home parties to spending the whole Friday or Saturday night in a pub drinking beer, I guess partly because driking beer in a pub has become the norm ever since everyone turned 18. But if you're in a party you can do all sorts things you can't do in a pub or a club: chat up with people without having to yell, eat all sorts of unhealthy food, dance to the music *you* like, pass out if you feel like it, retreat to some quiet corner to snog with someone (or maybe even to have sex, if you're daring enough and the apartment is big enough). Just last night I was at a friend's party where we dance to eighties pop on vinyl, ate apple pie and drank green punch, and generally just had a good time.

Okay, that was my pro-party speech. I'll shut my mouth now.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Saturday, 23 October 2004 09:37 (twenty years ago)

Hey, guys. Just dropping into say Hey, which I just did. :-D

Well, I emptied a bottle of single malt scotch with a friend last night and realized that when someone passes, everybody has to have their own private funeral really, I mean everyone who grieves. Luna helped me see that it's ok that the grieving is about me to an extent, the hole in me left from the passing. I got wounded. Nothing else matters, and it's not selfish to heal myself. So that's what I've been doing. It a very lonely thing.

Thanks for listening to all this blubbering, and thanks for all the kind thoughts.

Orbit (Orbit), Saturday, 23 October 2004 18:39 (twenty years ago)

Remy (x Jeremy), Saturday, 23 October 2004 20:16 (twenty years ago)

(this is also the thread where i announce i'm gonna go see the pixies in 1.5 hours)

Remy (x Jeremy), Saturday, 23 October 2004 20:17 (twenty years ago)

Now you see I suspect that you don't actually have to go, so it's no good expecting sympathy if you do...

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Saturday, 23 October 2004 20:24 (twenty years ago)

So were the Pixies any good, or sad and old?

Trayce (trayce), Sunday, 24 October 2004 05:09 (twenty years ago)

Man, I should read these threads sometime. So much good gossip.

jaymc (jaymc), Sunday, 24 October 2004 05:26 (twenty years ago)

Yeah, I think you should!

Just cut my hair - the remnants are lying on the bedroom floor, which annoys sgs a huge amount. Especially as the hoover is a whole 10 feet away. I'll hoover it up in a minute :)

Soon we're going to my parents' for lunch, which is always nice. I then have to try and persuade S to watch Manchester United vs Arsenal later in the afternoon.

Markelby (Mark C), Sunday, 24 October 2004 09:21 (twenty years ago)

Dee, you're pretty great yourself!

And Orbit, I hope you're okay. xx

luna (luna.c), Sunday, 24 October 2004 09:23 (twenty years ago)

Good morning! Today is the communal election date in Finland, and I'm faced with the same dilemma as always during election time. Basically, I'd love to vote the Green Party; they've become at least a semi-major factor in Finnish politics (they're the second biggest party here in Helsinki), and a couple of my friends are candidates of theirs in this election. But when it comes to issues of left vs. right, they've refused to take a clear stance. I know a lot of them are pretty much on the left, but they have candidates who lean on the right as well; and due to the Finnish election system, according to which your vote goes primarily to the party and only secondarily to the candidate, I can't be sure whether my vote benefits the leftists or the rightists. So I've deciced to vote for the Left Union, which, besides the Social Democrats, is the only credible leftist party in Finland at the moment. The Left Union still have some old stubs back from the seventies, who care more about jobs than the environment, but during the recent years they've become more environmentalist as well. As a matter of principle I'm voting for a young female candidate, because I'd rather see a young woman, who cares about stuff like education, youth politics and gender issues, than an middle-aged man in the city council.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Sunday, 24 October 2004 10:48 (twenty years ago)

Our video recorder broke after 15 years, I'm pretty annoyed. Went and bought a new one, but it's really rubbish compared to the old machine. *sigh* Why are electronic goods all that horrible silver/gray colour these day? Perhaps I'll get the old Philips machine fixed.

What is the etiquette for a wake? I have to go to one today and I've only ever been to a traditional funeral. What happens at a wake?

Orbit (Orbit), Sunday, 24 October 2004 16:08 (twenty years ago)

Pixies were great! I was about 1/2 mile away from the stage, and unfortunately I was forced to stay out until 4am afterward.

Remy (x Jeremy), Sunday, 24 October 2004 17:04 (twenty years ago)

Were you led away at gunpoint by the Fun Police and paraded around LA until 4am? I sense a civil rights case.

Orbit (Orbit), Sunday, 24 October 2004 17:11 (twenty years ago)

No, I carpooled with a dictator. I was all "let's go home, it's 11:00 and I have lots and lots of work tomorrow" and she was like "no, let's go get really drunk so I can't drive and you all have to sit around and wait for me to sober up because I refuse to give you the keys," and I was like "fuck no," and then I lost the argument.

Remy (x Jeremy), Sunday, 24 October 2004 17:29 (twenty years ago)

Dee, you love him but you hate him too, right?

Fuck that "love" shit, hon -- SLB's completely landed in my "shit" list ever since he said somewhere that he thought the Warren era "didn't feel like Duran Duran". WTF??? Warren was in the band for a LOT fucking longer than that shithead Andy was, AND Warren instituted a lot of great musical changes that enabled the band to escape being just a nostalgia act during the fucking '90s!

I want SLB hurt. Badly. Maimed severely. Injured to the point of disability. Fuck him. FUCK HIM.

Also, he's quite tall and I think he works out - I'm not sure I could take him :/

Awwww. You couldn't just acquire a gun and shoot the fucking bastard? Not to kill, mind -- just make it to where he can't walk ever again? Please? Pretty please?

Sycophantic New Romantic (Dee the Lurker), Monday, 25 October 2004 03:38 (twenty years ago)

B b but Andy was my favourite 'rannie in the 80s :(

He's a fat slobby looking session muso saddo now mind you.

Trayce (trayce), Monday, 25 October 2004 03:40 (twenty years ago)

(This is what happens when Dee REALLY has a beef with someone. I mean, REALLY. Seeing as though no one here on this forum's inspired me to such ire, none of you have anything to fear.)

B b but Andy was my favourite 'rannie in the 80s :(

Do you know what he did when he left the band? He sued the band time and time again, over the tiniest of things, so he could milk the band for every single red cent he could possibly get. And it wasn't a case of "Well, it was deserved," because at this point he was only communicating with the band through his lawyers.

Plus, I'm still pissed off that Andy's ruined the guitar parts from "Ordinary World". And you have to remember that I'm a second generationer who is really, really, really pissed off about suddenly becoming a Third Class musical citizen. Hence the earlier discussion about feeling like cheap generic tissue.

Sycophantic New Romantic (Dee the Lurker), Monday, 25 October 2004 03:44 (twenty years ago)

Isn't Warren the one into all kinds of highly unpleasant sex activities?

(not that I know a thing about it but maybe to SLB the concept of "Duran Duran" was the experience he had with the original band; once this was over, the name remained but for Simon perhaps the thing that had been "Duran Duran" for him was in the past. So the Warren period may well have been even more artistically valid but didn't feel like the original entity, which is fair enough as it no longer was? Would you feel the same if the Warren-era band had been called a completely different name? Because if a name's all there is to it then I'm having trouble understanding your hatred)

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 25 October 2004 09:30 (twenty years ago)

Where is everyone this morning? Not just on this thread - it's a ghost board out there, and half the recent threads have been filled with nonsense by non-ILXors. It's very confusing. Has there been some kind of armageddon?

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 25 October 2004 09:46 (twenty years ago)

I am here, just working up to a big post on here, don't have time quite at the moment, will have to wait a bit.

Hope you're cool geeza!

PinXorchiXoR (Pinkpanther), Monday, 25 October 2004 09:48 (twenty years ago)

I'm here too, I just made a huge post on the "conventionally attractive" thread.

Tuomas (Tuomas), Monday, 25 October 2004 09:49 (twenty years ago)

Yes, I saw that. Though you know you *are* conventionally attractive, right, Tuomas?

I'm alright. A bit subdued today, to be honest - I can't shake this kind of mental exhaustion that's been prevalent since I ahd some kind of virus last week. AND I DON'T KNOW WHAT TO HAVE FOR LUNCH!

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 25 October 2004 10:26 (twenty years ago)

Oh dear. The seminal British football novel "Fever Pitch" is being remade as a film in the US, with baseball replacing football. The whole crux of the story depends on the curse of the bambino, i.e. that the Boston Red Sox haven't been able to win a world series for 80 years. Can you see the potential problem that's developing...?

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 25 October 2004 10:48 (twenty years ago)

Look, the fact that Simon said what he did is the culmination of various events that have transpired throughout the past three years that have said to the truly loyal fans out there that they did not matter to the band, that they might as well have followed another musical artist, because their loyalty was not at all appreciated and certainly wasn't going to be rewarded. Apparently, since the band were so over-eager to regain the "fans" who only think of the band as a nostalgia act, a time capsule to unlock at their whimsy and to drop like a bad habit once their extremely disloyal attentions have turned elsewhere. The band have engaged in other activities that have left loyal fans such as myself out in the cold, even those people who were actually a part of the band's original core fandom back when the band was a popular teen act in the '80s. The impact is just felt even more with people such as myself, because we are members of the Second Generation of fans, the fans that NEVER get acknowledged by ANYONE, the fans whose brightest spot fan-wise was 1993's The Wedding Album, the ones who prefer Warren to Andy and whose favorite lineup was Simon-Nick-John-Warren. We saw the band perform in 1999 and 2000, back when the audience was filled with only the loyal fans who actually bought whatever the most recent band release was and any people who happened to show up who thought the band was a "nostalgia" act were squeezed out by the sheer force of our combined energies. We got treated so much better back then, even if the band were still a bit inaccessible; I mean, we did know of individuals who were able to go backstage AND we knew that there were ways of procuring autographs from the band that didn't end up costing us over $300 (on top of a $35/year "subscription fee") and hours upon hours of praying that the "fan community" liaisons would pick you to actually be able to go backstage.

I mean, yeah, there are two courteous and completely accessible people still in the band (Nick and John, FYI) and those two are the only two reasons why I and others like me don't fantasize about seeing the whole band perish in some ghastly accident, but that's not enough. We deserve so much more than what we've gotten. And Simon's insensitivity toward us in completely dismissing an entire era that actually meant something to us fan-wise as "not actually being this band" is just a bunch of fucked-up bullshit. (Oh, and Simon's not exactly Mr. Personality, either. FYI.)

Sycophantic New Romantic (Dee the Lurker), Monday, 25 October 2004 11:00 (twenty years ago)

(You're kidding me, right? Hollywood's actually attempting a remake of Fever Pitch?! Oh, they are SO going to screw up this one! Argh, I also hate whomever in Hollywood thought that was a good idea. Why couldn't they just leave well enough alone? Please remind me to update my Shit List when I get home.)

Sycophantic New Romantic (Dee the Lurker), Monday, 25 October 2004 11:03 (twenty years ago)

They are actually filming it right now, Dee!

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 25 October 2004 12:11 (twenty years ago)

Um... Mornin', Everyone. I'm at my desk.Blah. It's Monday morning.Blah. My boss got all excited that we match today. So what if we're both wearing fall colors? What a coincidence! Oh my god! We must be soul mates! ha ha. But I had a great weekend. Horrible dreams last night, but now I'm here with you guys so you can all say, "Now, now, Sarah, it was all just a dream."

Dee, I don't follow all that band stuff, but you're the expert. More power to you!

Orbit, Luna was OTM. I'm glad you're taking some time to work through this and get yourself better.

Pink, What's the update with your mom?

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 25 October 2004 12:50 (twenty years ago)

I wish my boss got excited about me. She's a bit strange, if nice, when she actually communicates. I think it's cos she's younger than me.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 25 October 2004 13:06 (twenty years ago)

I'm just like, "SHOW ME THE MONEY!!!"

I'm excited about seeing the Pixies, but I have to wait three more weeks.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 25 October 2004 13:38 (twenty years ago)

I had a really bizarre dream last night that completely interrupted my sleeeep. (I don't sleep very well to begin with) that I was Ophelia in a production of Hamlet, but I decided it was a comedy, so I kept making jokes, and then decided we should all go for a game of football and drinks and then it got all serious again, and I couldn't remember my cue, and I woke up this morning and yelled out "Nymph, in thy orisons be all my sins remembered!" I have no idea what brought this on, all I did last night was carve pumpkins and listen to music with friends. And eat at Taco Bell. Hmmm. Chalupas cause Shakespeare dreams. I do not wish to be at work today. I want to go watch I Heart Huckabees instead, now that it is finally at the theatre here. Perhaps tomorrow night. (Looked at Fever Pitch remake on IMDB. Ick. Jimmy Fallon instead of Colin Firth?)

jocelyn (Jocelyn), Monday, 25 October 2004 13:45 (twenty years ago)

So I reviewed the Symphony (silent movie thing) this weekend, and my boss was like "good stuff, Huck, would you like to do this regularly?"

But the whole gimmick of my review was that I was a fish out of water!

Huk-L, Monday, 25 October 2004 13:55 (twenty years ago)

Sarah, I had a bad dream, too. I woke up soaked with sweat. Really uncool. I forget what I was even having a nighmare about.

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Monday, 25 October 2004 14:15 (twenty years ago)

I can't remember all of mine, but it involved an imaginary uncle yelling at me and me eating a hamburger. IRL, I had bad cramps, so that explains it.

Right now I have a horrible fucking headache.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 25 October 2004 14:51 (twenty years ago)

Huck, your syndicated column name could be "Fish Out Of Water, Drowning".

Dee: Are you a fan because you feel that your devotions towards the band should give you more power over how the band operates?

Casuistry (Chris P), Monday, 25 October 2004 15:47 (twenty years ago)

Sometimes I just don't even know what to say.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 25 October 2004 15:49 (twenty years ago)

ANd my theme music could be that Faith No More song where the video ended with the goldfish flopping around! I've totally mellowed over the last month. All I do is sit at home and search the digital cablesphere for cartoons and then watch the first five minutes of them and decide they're rubbish.

Huk-L, Monday, 25 October 2004 15:53 (twenty years ago)

Huck, did you not get the e-mail I sent you a few days ago? Or did your address gmailify?

Casuistry (Chris P), Monday, 25 October 2004 15:59 (twenty years ago)

Luna, when I don't know what to say, I like to repeat "Lorem ipsum dolor site amet" knowingly.

Casuistry (Chris P), Monday, 25 October 2004 16:00 (twenty years ago)

"timmeh"

Je4nne ƒury (Jeanne Fury), Monday, 25 October 2004 16:03 (twenty years ago)

I'm uncomfortable with the whole "object of fan's affection owes the fan" deal. You've given time, money and affection, sure, but you've received, in return, the music that you're so happy with. It seems to be a fair swap - so why do you loathe someone you previously would have loved because of some intangible "debt"? It all seems a bit Misery at times.

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 25 October 2004 16:03 (twenty years ago)

I've just never liked a band that much, so I don't think I fully grasp the emotion.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 25 October 2004 16:07 (twenty years ago)

I'm not sure I have, either. I can, however, see it in turns of being dumped by a beloved girlfriend, then feel bitter and hateful towards her for breaking my heart.

< /17 year old >

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 25 October 2004 16:11 (twenty years ago)

Oh it's not that I don't understand it, I think, just that I've never felt that way.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 25 October 2004 16:18 (twenty years ago)

Casuistry, oh yeah, yeah I did. I just didn't answer it. I should have mentioned that I've been watching cartoons to the exclusion of DOING ANYTHING ELSE (especially writing comic reviews, which has put my in bad favour with my comic reviews editors, shitty me). I'll get on that. The hold up was that I don't know my postal code, but I'll find it and get back to you tonight. Sorry.

Huk-L, Monday, 25 October 2004 16:30 (twenty years ago)

Nevermind anything I say today, I think I am having a bad day, and therefore am crabby and mean.

Grr.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 25 October 2004 16:35 (twenty years ago)

What Luna said. Grr. (hugglez tho)

Markelby (Mark C), Monday, 25 October 2004 16:36 (twenty years ago)

The accountant guy in my office deserves a punch in the face. When I told him we didn't allow the bf's parents to pay for our plane tickets (he was asking a lot of questions about my time off), he said that accepting handouts is always wrong. Then he told this long story about how generous he is with everyone and how he has a second home he just paid off and gives money to his kids all the time. He was poor when he was young but worked 3 jobs at a time to get to where he is today. And anyone who accepts charity is immoral.

So what am I supposed to do? Work harder here? I don't think so.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 25 October 2004 16:42 (twenty years ago)

If you get his name in the office Xmas pool, don't get him a present.

Casuistry (Chris P), Monday, 25 October 2004 16:45 (twenty years ago)

Punch him in the face.

luna (luna.c), Monday, 25 October 2004 16:45 (twenty years ago)

Why just the face?

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 25 October 2004 16:46 (twenty years ago)

I don't know if he'd take a punch in the face, that sounds like charity. Make him work a little more for it. He'll appreciate it more, the fascist.

Obv. you guys wouldn't really know, but do you think I'm intimidating? The intern just jumped when I said something to her. "Here's your new notebook."

note: this isn't the dumb-as-fuck intern who condescends me all fucking day long.

Huk-L, Monday, 25 October 2004 16:59 (twenty years ago)

At most you're intimidating in that "He was always such a quiet neighbor" kind of way.

Casuistry (Chris P), Monday, 25 October 2004 17:01 (twenty years ago)

further note: I'm wearing a slipknot T-shirt that has blood-splatter-as-tie-dye and bright green scrawl that reads: "Die, Intern, Die"

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 25 October 2004 17:12 (twenty years ago)

Huk, I don't think you're intimidating. It's about time that intern guy gave you some R E S P E C T though. I bet he was doing something he wasn't supposed to, like playing on ILX. ha ha

Chris, I'm all about my nerdiness. When I was little, my mom always repeated these two things to me
1- Isn't it fun to be a girl? And
2- Why be normal?
She even had a button that said "Proud to be a Nerd."
So I'm full of femininity and weirdness (nerdiness).

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 25 October 2004 17:18 (twenty years ago)

Are you saying that femininity + weirdness = nerdiness?

Huk-L, Monday, 25 October 2004 17:22 (twenty years ago)

Um, sure, why not? No, not really. I've met lots of weird females who aren't nerds.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 25 October 2004 17:27 (twenty years ago)

Jeanne, thats because its Toby Radloff the nerd from American Splendor!

Velveteen Bingo (Chris V), Monday, 25 October 2004 18:31 (twenty years ago)

Hello everyone. I am having one of the days where I'm the stupidest person ever and I can't fucking do shit at all or even read or think straight, let alone get all the dispersed elements of my life together which I have been trying desperately to do, but obviously not hard enough. GUH. I'm sorry I don't come on this thread much and when I do I whine about nothing, but man! Sucks.

sgs (sgs), Monday, 25 October 2004 19:41 (twenty years ago)

I'm at work but I don't so much feel like it. I forgot my boss was going to be away. Ho hum.

Casuistry (Chris P), Monday, 25 October 2004 19:43 (twenty years ago)

I feel your pain, Casuistry. In this I knew he was going to be gone but damn I'm just plain tired. Two more hours to go, though.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Monday, 25 October 2004 19:45 (twenty years ago)

I just did an equal amount of work in the last 20 minutes as I did all morning. Ha ha, I'm inconsistent!

Huk-L, Monday, 25 October 2004 19:46 (twenty years ago)

I have an hour and 11 minutes left at work today.

I am currently hating on this female coworker - the one who I've had tiffs with in the past about really stupid shit like whose stuff is on the printer... I hate her. HATE HATE HATE her. Our latest stupid fight was over popcorn. One of these days I think we're going to have to take it outside.

I don't mean to complain. I mean, I'm always hating on at least one coworker, so it's really just everyday stuff here.

Sarah McLusky (coco), Monday, 25 October 2004 19:48 (twenty years ago)

Hail Sarah, full of hate, the board is with you and also with the fruit of thy loom, Jesus Christ. Blessed art thou among women. For thine is the Kingdom, deliver us some pizza, watch out stomach here it comes!

Casu, Someone brought in chocolate chocolate chip cookies today with pumpkin candies on them. What do yours look like?

They are pumpkin through and through, made with some of that canned pumpkin stuff. They're little puffy blobs, somewhere between a normal cookie and a meringue.

Casuistry (Chris P), Monday, 25 October 2004 19:59 (twenty years ago)
