Nowell (Nowell), Thursday, 20 January 2005 22:26 (twenty-one years ago)

That's nice.

Ned Raggett (Ned), Thursday, 20 January 2005 22:27 (twenty-one years ago)

pretty good. the day is going slow but I feel centered.

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 20 January 2005 22:27 (twenty-one years ago)

Snotty

Michael White (Hereward), Thursday, 20 January 2005 22:28 (twenty-one years ago)

also i might be getting a visit from a good friend which is nice to think about.

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 20 January 2005 22:28 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm super! Thanks for asking!

polyphonic (polyphonic), Thursday, 20 January 2005 22:29 (twenty-one years ago)

I knew someone wouldn't miss the chance to say that...

Nowell (Nowell), Thursday, 20 January 2005 22:30 (twenty-one years ago)

My shoulders have been sore the last couple days, but that's nothing new. Just a little more than usual, I guess.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 20 January 2005 22:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I just made myself some tea. Earl Gray.

jaymc (jaymc), Thursday, 20 January 2005 22:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm looking forward to a phone call when I get home. From a friend.

Nowell (Nowell), Thursday, 20 January 2005 22:31 (twenty-one years ago)

I think I'm going to skip yoga tonight and work out instead. then I'll do the washing up. It's my driving test tomorrow.

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 20 January 2005 22:34 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm gonna smoke a bowl and play video games, as usual.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Thursday, 20 January 2005 22:35 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm mad at my boss again. He insisted on going with the $4/month web hosting service instead of the $10/month, because he's cheap as George frickin' Constanza, and the server crashed -- no joke -- 10 minutes after I started uploading files to it. I would smile smugly and say "I told you so," but that wouldn't get the work done any faster.

Other than that, I'm fine.

Pears can just fuck right off. (kenan), Thursday, 20 January 2005 22:36 (twenty-one years ago)

My mood was improved .0005 percent by this picture:

Break some leg, adam!

Michael White (Hereward), Thursday, 20 January 2005 22:37 (twenty-one years ago)

polyphonic you are enlightened

Juan, the Magic Don (jingleberries), Thursday, 20 January 2005 22:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm okay, just about. Not at my cheeriest by any means but there's nothing actually the matter. I believe the word is "snuh".

Markelby (Mark C), Thursday, 20 January 2005 22:38 (twenty-one years ago)

I might move...I mean, like, away. To Oahu, actually. Probably gonna take more than a year, though.

Nowell (Nowell), Thursday, 20 January 2005 22:39 (twenty-one years ago)

I suppose you could still access the internet from there.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:00 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I know. I was just SAYING...

Nowell (Nowell), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:03 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh I was just musing.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:13 (twenty-one years ago)

Oh. Ok.

Nowell (Nowell), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:14 (twenty-one years ago)

Sorry...

Nowell (Nowell), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:15 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm coughing occasionally, after flu late last week, and still a bit weak from that, but otherwise okay, and in a pretty decent mood of late too.

Martin Skidmore (Martin Skidmore), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:18 (twenty-one years ago)

Jeez, I hope I get a letter.

Nowell (Nowell), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:19 (twenty-one years ago)

I just bought a goshdamn house. I'm now cash-poor and basically tethered to a town that can be rather irksome (sometimes). On the other hand, I'm finally able to extricate myself from the twixters whose very existence is a slap in the face of the Amurcan Dream.

So, elated with a dash of nausea. Thanks for asking.

Will (will), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:21 (twenty-one years ago)

Sounds good!

Nowell (Nowell), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:22 (twenty-one years ago)

Ok Spencer, you just made me shoot water out of my nose. Ow.

Otherwise, I'm good. Eating cheese, bread and olives, and feeling fine.

luna (luna.c), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:22 (twenty-one years ago)

I'd like to own a house. In sonoma or something.

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:23 (twenty-one years ago)

Nowell seems more prosaic than usual.

Sonoma sucks.

Aaron Hertz (AaronHz), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:23 (twenty-one years ago)

How would you know? Ukiah isn't in Sonoma!

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Fucking SHIT.

Andrew (enneff), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:25 (twenty-one years ago)

What's "prosaic" mean?

Nowell (Nowell), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:27 (twenty-one years ago)

http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=prosaic

Andrew (enneff), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:28 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, what sense was he using it in?

Nowell (Nowell), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:29 (twenty-one years ago)

The literal sense.

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm doing moderately okay, much better than yesterday's hissy fit. Listening to Sly & the Family Stone (the Fat Elvis years), contemplating several projects on my plate, including a possible Bay Area trip in the spring.

Curious George Rides a Republican (Rock Hardy), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:34 (twenty-one years ago)

My girlfriend had a bad day yesterday and I'm feeling the aftershocks

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:35 (twenty-one years ago)

Tread lightly.

My wife told me today, "Yesterday I thought about coming out to your office and putting a towel over your head." I guess I was acting like a horse that was too scared to leave the burning barn.

Curious George Rides a Republican (Rock Hardy), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:38 (twenty-one years ago)

Adam i lived in sonoma for the first 22 years of my life.
plus Ukiah is an hour away from where I live now.
Sort it.

Aaron Hertz (AaronHz), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:41 (twenty-one years ago)

Pretty good. A little tired and a little full.

Matt (Matt), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:43 (twenty-one years ago)

Sort it.

OK

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:46 (twenty-one years ago)

Sonoma is nice, though. Maybe I can poitn you to some nice parts. Do you like sausage?

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:47 (twenty-one years ago)

You'll still have to drive back to SF to do most anything worth doing.

Aaron Hertz (AaronHz), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I like sitting and reading and listening to birdsong.

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah you can do a lot of that, just like don't try to find any decent live music venues or anything.

Aaron Hertz (AaronHz), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:52 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't like live music.

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:52 (twenty-one years ago)

Anyway, I can't afford a house!

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:53 (twenty-one years ago)

You might be able to in Mendo. Sonoma has been slowly becoming more and more for rich folk.

Aaron Hertz (AaronHz), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:55 (twenty-one years ago)

I was just musing.

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:56 (twenty-one years ago)

I wouldn't want to move back there is all. Might be different for someone who didn't grow up there.

Aaron Hertz (AaronHz), Thursday, 20 January 2005 23:57 (twenty-one years ago)

geez, I'd love to be able to afford a house anywhere in the Bay area. Probably my primary reason for not accepting a position out there was the fact that I would live in squalor (even with my salary adjusted for SF)

Will (will), Friday, 21 January 2005 00:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't live in squalor!

.ada.m. (nordicskilla), Friday, 21 January 2005 00:04 (twenty-one years ago)

You live in Oakland, right?

Michael White (Hereward), Friday, 21 January 2005 00:07 (twenty-one years ago)

My house is really nice, although I pay $600 + utilities to live in a house with 3 other people and their many visitors.

polyphonic (polyphonic), Friday, 21 January 2005 01:04 (twenty-one years ago)

I've completely lapsed back into clinical depression, a state i get into when i don't take my meds(which i ran out of in october).

fortunately, a headhunter emailed me about coming in to the office to get a better job on monday morn, and my roommate's girlfriend told me about calling drug reps of the company that makes the particular med i need to try to get some boxes of free samples.

oh and it's a balmy 50+ degF outside...

Juan, the Magic Don (jingleberries), Friday, 21 January 2005 05:48 (twenty-one years ago)

I am not prosaic.

Nowell (Nowell), Friday, 21 January 2005 23:36 (twenty-one years ago)

Michael White (Hereward), Friday, 21 January 2005 23:40 (twenty-one years ago)

Why did I seem prosaic?

Nowell (Nowell), Saturday, 22 January 2005 00:03 (twenty-one years ago)

You too were musing.

Spencer Chow (spencermfi), Saturday, 22 January 2005 00:10 (twenty-one years ago)

My musing wasn't prosaic, though...Was it?
On second thought, yeah, it was. Maybe it's cuz my underwear was riding up my ass, and that made me uncomfortable. Sorry.

Nowell, I've been posting for one year +, and I'm still not sure about my place in the ILX sun.

Here's a great John sample:

well. serious thread folks. email me if you don't want to post here.

i feel seriously fucked up today/yesterday and itain't just caffeine. because thtat was like 12-14 hours ago. i just drank 1/4 stolen jim bean (polished off) plus a few swigs of GOOD vodka (aftger drinking an iced glass of shit vodka). and well yeah i'm feeling a slight buzz i guess but basically giong out of my mind otherwise.

hmm. it's like...vodka and red bull type shit. cept i ain't had no red bull. i was giong haywire earlier...pacing all around the house upstaris downstairs computer book can't comprehend much repeat. only 10 pages of gravity's rainbow read today. but that's all i remember doing besides posting on here, reading gravity's rainbow. and i had experienced a similar ("manic"?) episode about 1-2 weeks earlier, lasting for about a week, then it stopped. but it didn't end with MASSIVE DEPRESSION (like it's supposed to right?) but rather...mellowness type stuff. so it can't be bipolar disorder right?

but surely i'm going out of my mind?

well. andrew don't move this thread you Hott Sexxy bastard ok?

anyway if it's not clear am i manic depressive or something? i don't know... i saw a shrink (actually a psychiatrist cuz i don't go for psychotheraphy bullshit) and he diagnosed me w/ ... depression and anxiety disorder.

well you don't actually have to take this thead seriously, i was just kidding about that but am i bipolar? that would be cool if i am. i've always thought that was the coolest mental diseasse hope i'm not offending anyone....

goodbye.

i'm so sorry.

I don't think a single John post explains it all, though, because it was more the fact that he kept starting one thread after another about himself, and complaining that people who didn't like it weren't taking it upon themselves to expand the thread discussion to something broader and more interesting. And then dismissing whatever stupid shit he'd said as "it was 3am!"

Tep (ktepi), Saturday, 22 January 2005 01:43 (twenty-one years ago)

So you're saying that he sounds like me.

Nowell (Nowell), Saturday, 22 January 2005 01:44 (twenty-one years ago)

Talking about this sucks. Bring up something else.

Nowell (Nowell), Saturday, 22 January 2005 01:44 (twenty-one years ago)

It's what you were doing at one point, but if you're not now, you can lord it over him.

I'm too braindead to bring anything else up without sticking a finger in my throat, honest.

Tep (ktepi), Saturday, 22 January 2005 01:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm going to an auction tomorrow!

Curious George Rides a Republican (Rock Hardy), Saturday, 22 January 2005 01:47 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm not doing that anymore!
And...."lord it over"?

Nowell (Nowell), Saturday, 22 January 2005 01:49 (twenty-one years ago)

I scoped out the merchandise today and one of the lots has a first edition (1908) of Dorothy and the Wizard in Oz.

"lording it over" = proclaim yr. superiority

Curious George Rides a Republican (Rock Hardy), Saturday, 22 January 2005 01:51 (twenty-one years ago)

Nah, I don't do that. It's not anything to be proud of, anyway...

Nowell (Nowell), Saturday, 22 January 2005 01:53 (twenty-one years ago)

Ooooh.

The highlight of my day tomorrow will be getting breakfast out and buying a pack of printer paper for the 500 pg manuscript I need to mail out Monday morning, the edits of which have made my whole body feel like eyestrain. But I've got to get all that kind of thing off the to-do list before I go back to Louisiana.

Tep (ktepi), Saturday, 22 January 2005 01:53 (twenty-one years ago)

"Ooooh," what?
The highlight of MY day tomorrow will be...Well, what should I do tomorrow?

Nowell (Nowell), Saturday, 22 January 2005 01:56 (twenty-one years ago)

Ooooh the Oz book -- I lose books too easily to collect them, but the Oz stuff was always cool.

Tomorrow you should have roasted pig and fresh pineapple -- it's certainly what I'd do if I were in Hawaii.

Tep (ktepi), Saturday, 22 January 2005 01:58 (twenty-one years ago)

Yeah, I would if I could.

I don't have enough money to buy as many books as I'd like to, unfortunately...

Nowell (Nowell), Saturday, 22 January 2005 01:59 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm looking to resell it immediately. I've started selling my CD collection and I think I'd like to give buying cheap/selling high a shot as a sideline to my main paying gig.

Curious George Rides a Republican (Rock Hardy), Saturday, 22 January 2005 02:00 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm going to start haunting the auctions and yard sales and pawn shops around here and selling their cheap shit to rich people who can't get enough cheap shit in their lives.

Curious George Rides a Republican (Rock Hardy), Saturday, 22 January 2005 02:01 (twenty-one years ago)

I know a few people who make pretty good money reselling on Ebay, too -- although in every case I also know their spouses, who complain that Ebay takes up all their time.

Another thing I should do tomorrow is hit the used bookstore and find out if they're buying. I have boxes of books I wouldn't mind being rid of, and a closet literally stacked floor to ceiling with said boxes, which means I never see most of the ones I want to keep, either.

Tep (ktepi), Saturday, 22 January 2005 02:04 (twenty-one years ago)

That's the fourth Oz book, right? I only have the first three.

Aaron Hertz (AaronHz), Saturday, 22 January 2005 02:05 (twenty-one years ago)

Yep, #4.

Curious George Rides a Republican (Rock Hardy), Saturday, 22 January 2005 02:06 (twenty-one years ago)

When I was a kid, the small children's section of the small local library had about 30 Oz books -- I must've read them each a couple times. Those and the Raggedy Ann and Andy books that I haven't been able to find since (the ones I've found have been very different).

Tep (ktepi), Saturday, 22 January 2005 02:15 (twenty-one years ago)

(Do kids even read Raggedy Ann and Andy anymore?)

Tep (ktepi), Saturday, 22 January 2005 02:16 (twenty-one years ago)

I thought about selling our copy of Frankenstein, the first Marvel edition with the Berni Wrightson drawings. He's autographed it in two places, I figure I could get a few hundred for it. My wife grabbed it out of my hands and said, "I don't think so."

Curious George Rides a Republican (Rock Hardy), Saturday, 22 January 2005 02:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I was really depressed earlier this week and now I'm feeling so upbeat that I'm wondering if maybe I am a little bipolar (as in "I think you may be a little bipolar" as my manic depressive friend once said to me, the same one who would rant about how mental illness is socially constructed, and in other cultures she'd be doing just fine).

RS £aRue (rockist_scientist), Saturday, 22 January 2005 02:20 (twenty-one years ago)

I'm getting together ideas for a Farid el Atrache mix, but I'm not making any offers yet.

RS £aRue (rockist_scientist), Saturday, 22 January 2005 02:21 (twenty-one years ago)

I think it probably needs to be a more established pattern than that -- lots of people seem to just have cyclical moods -- but it doesn't hurt to keep an eye on yourself.

Tep (ktepi), Saturday, 22 January 2005 02:25 (twenty-one years ago)

hi guys i was on a lot of drugs then sorry

John (jdahlem), Saturday, 22 January 2005 02:25 (twenty-one years ago)

How are things going now? A little more evened out?

Curious George Rides a Republican (Rock Hardy), Saturday, 22 January 2005 02:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Don't tell me Nowell left just as John got here!

Tep (ktepi), Saturday, 22 January 2005 02:53 (twenty-one years ago)

It certainly appears so...

Aaron Hertz (AaronHz), Saturday, 22 January 2005 02:54 (twenty-one years ago)

I swear to you, Gordon, Snufflupagus is real!

Tep (ktepi), Saturday, 22 January 2005 02:55 (twenty-one years ago)

Have you noticed... they're never in the room at the same time!!

Curious George Rides a Republican (Rock Hardy), Saturday, 22 January 2005 02:55 (twenty-one years ago)

>How are things going now? A little more evened out?

today was the first pretty normal day i had in awhile tho i've felt & been really slow mentally. barring a chance run-in there won't be anything more than alcohol w/in reach for the next couple weeks at least as of last night so i should be 'ok' for awhile. look, if it makes you feel any better, and i know it sounds preposterous and i'm embarrassed by it, but i WAS being sincere; i'm a paranoid person by nature and when i take certain medicines i like many people can convince myself of things that might stretch reality a touch. no, i'm probably not bipolar, yes, like someone on the thread suggested, it was probably just drugs. anyway shit happens, that shit happened to happen in front of a computer which yes is inredibly pathetic and i'm all the more sorry for it, and tho i can't promise anything lessons learned etc.

as for tep, i encountered him at the tail end of the binge and i paranoidly thought i saw a reference to something there was in fact no reference to and kinda freaked on him and he took it personally and so he hates me. tep, i think yer a fine guy and i bear no grudges against you or george. so y'all can keep bringing the hate or lay down yr arms, to be honest i don't really mind either way, but pls don't think i typically go around joking about mental disorders or petitioning internet girls to email me pictures [ok maybe that] or or etc etc [i don't remember most of it and i haven't exactly been eager to revisit it].

John (jdahlem), Saturday, 22 January 2005 03:10 (twenty-one years ago)

Nah, I don't hate you. If you're cool now, you're cool now.

Tep (ktepi), Saturday, 22 January 2005 03:13 (twenty-one years ago)

What he said.

Curious George Rides a Republican (Rock Hardy), Saturday, 22 January 2005 03:16 (twenty-one years ago)

ok i actually (unknowingly f'real) lied about the booze-only but i think i'm finished now for real. 2 bumps is all but w/ lots of booze to counter it 'opefully. i just wanted to get rid of it basically but it's too nice to dispose of. seriously tho you guys are great and whenever i step outta line, i want you to chastise me full-swing. aark post-nasal drip. aark.

John (jdahlem), Saturday, 22 January 2005 06:31 (twenty-one years ago)

also i will not start any threads about myself tonight i promise.

John (jdahlem), Saturday, 22 January 2005 06:31 (twenty-one years ago)

just to update i think i've somehow achieved near-perfect equilibrium. this is kinda awesome.

John (jdahlem), Saturday, 22 January 2005 08:50 (twenty-one years ago)

Angry, cold, overcaffeinated but still tired, resentful.

Remy IS THE Snush (x Jeremy), Saturday, 22 January 2005 10:02 (twenty-one years ago)

it's now 4 hear and the past 4 hrs have gone by at a distrubingly quick rate. all i remember is listeing to a warbly live rec of "john-john" twice and the watching nellie's animal protest song-video and getting into an amicably resolved arg with latebloomer. SURELY THIS DID NOT TAKE FOUR HOURS. fucking lost time. instant indicactor of alien abduction. what "dreams" may come.

John (jdahlem), Saturday, 22 January 2005 10:05 (twenty-one years ago)

i am not hungry at al thought by those time i should be craving something terribly. it's been like four hours since i had that minimal dose of /coffee/.

John (jdahlem), Saturday, 22 January 2005 10:06 (twenty-one years ago)

"coffee".

John (jdahlem), Saturday, 22 January 2005 10:13 (twenty-one years ago)

i think george and tep will hate me again now.

John (jdahlem), Saturday, 22 January 2005 10:13 (twenty-one years ago)

that's meant to be "coffee" rather than /coffee/ btw. i'm not sure why i was trying for pseudo-italics. just doesn't make much sense in that context.

John (jdahlem), Saturday, 22 January 2005 10:16 (twenty-one years ago)

i am ok but it could be a combo of xnanx/merv/vodka/redwine and something else i've forgotten. i threw it all in a dumpster cuz i cant fucking stand drugs and it gave me this wonderful buzz. guys u should consider getting hi on life more often.

John (jdahlem), Saturday, 22 January 2005 11:25 (twenty-one years ago)

John, for heaven's sake, are all those "I am drunk ha ha look at me ma no hands" threads yours? This is like waking up to find the cat's crapped in the planter again.

Tep (ktepi), Saturday, 22 January 2005 14:16 (twenty-one years ago)

John (jdahlem), Saturday, 22 January 2005 14:21 (twenty-one years ago)

WHy are you now saying "last night" when you only started posting trashed rubbish a few hours ago when it was supposedly 3am or something? Not that much time has passed. You nut.

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 22 January 2005 14:24 (twenty-one years ago)

Dude, it's okay to go back to previous "I am drunk" threads and resume them. The other drink-and-posters manage it. Go on AIM or something. This cry for help shit is too Facts of Life for a Saturday morning.

John (jdahlem), Saturday, 22 January 2005 14:32 (twenty-one years ago)

Go drink some water.

Lay down.

Feel better.

The next time you feel like starting a dozen threads about nothing instead of opening up a chat window, don't.

Tep (ktepi), Saturday, 22 January 2005 14:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Tep speaks wisely.

Also, you did so start a thread that said "help" about 2 hours ago. If you have no idea what you're even doing you shouln't be online at all - this shit will come back and bite you on the ass when you're 30 and trying to get a job and someone googles "John Dahlem" and sees all this crap...

Trayce (trayce), Saturday, 22 January 2005 14:37 (twenty-one years ago)

hi. i am fine, see. some preposterous hacker decided to have some fun. a pity as it could conveivably ruin my career. i will have tos peak to A1 sex-stud mod about this. later. when i give a fuck.

RS £aRue (rockist_scientist), Saturday, 22 January 2005 15:12 (twenty-one years ago)

I took the last old-format SAT today. I'm crossing my fingers for a 1600! (though I kind of doubt I achieved it)

Curt1s St3ph3ns, Saturday, 22 January 2005 19:57 (twenty-one years ago)

Well, the auction was fun. I didn't get the Oz book, but I got a few other possibly profitable items. And does anyone know if Gusano de Oro is a good brand of mezcal? I bought a box off of a guy that had an OLD unopened bottle of that in it, plus an unopened bottle of French brandy and a nice cut-glass decanter. Oh no, auction fever has set in!

Curious George Rides a Republican (Rock Hardy), Saturday, 22 January 2005 23:43 (twenty-one years ago)

What did the guy who won the Oz book end up paying for it?

Aaron Hertz (AaronHz), Sunday, 23 January 2005 00:27 (twenty-one years ago)

so what was Nowell's burning question?

eman (eman), Sunday, 23 January 2005 00:33 (twenty-one years ago)

Aaron, he gave $22.50 for it. I did a little research yesterday and it looked like copies in this condition go for a rough price range of $25 to $40. I wasn't prepared to shell out more than I was sure I could double within a couple of months.

Whew, three power outages due to high winds since I got home from the auction.

Curious George Rides a Republican (Rock Hardy), Sunday, 23 January 2005 01:00 (twenty-one years ago)

eman, no idea what Nowell's question was.

Curious George Rides a Republican (Rock Hardy), Sunday, 23 January 2005 01:01 (twenty-one years ago)

Do you know offhand what a 1st ed. of The Wizard of Oz is worth? Considerably more, I would think...

Aaron Hertz (AaronHz), Sunday, 23 January 2005 01:03 (twenty-one years ago)

I should get a guide to old book values before I do much more of this auction stuff. After I won a couple of lots of books, an elderly gent came up to me and said that he owns an old house that's been empty for several years, and it's got loads of old books in it that he'd sell me. He said he thought the books dated from the '30s, though how he knew that I couldn't say. I got his name, directions, phone #. This might be my big score.

I found an online price guide at fadedgiant.net and it gave a range for 1908 editions of that Oz book of $20 to $44. The ebay and Amazon sales I saw were in line with that. One guy had an edition autographed by Baum for about $450, but that's a whole nother kettle of wax.

Curious George Rides a Republican (Rock Hardy), Sunday, 23 January 2005 01:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Have I missed anything?

Nowell (Nowell), Thursday, 27 January 2005 23:11 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey, I tried to write some poetry.

Nowell (Nowell), Thursday, 27 January 2005 23:17 (twenty-one years ago)

Ha, hi Nowell. You didn't miss anything that matters. Someone wanted to know what your question was, I don't remember if they found out or not.

Tep (ktepi), Thursday, 27 January 2005 23:19 (twenty-one years ago)

You know what it is, right?

Nowell (Nowell), Thursday, 27 January 2005 23:21 (twenty-one years ago)

No idea! I don't remember the context anymore, just someone asking about it up thread.

Tep (ktepi), Thursday, 27 January 2005 23:26 (twenty-one years ago)

I don't remember either! But I heard that fettucine and mushrooms and garlic are good for the memory, so I'm jamming myself full of that. (I just sat down at the computer with my dinner.)

Hi Nowell, how's life in the islands today?

Curious George Rides a Republican (Rock Hardy), Friday, 28 January 2005 00:29 (twenty-one years ago)

Hey, wait a minute, I'm an hour late. NEVER MIND!

Curious George Rides a Republican (Rock Hardy), Friday, 28 January 2005 00:30 (twenty-one years ago)

I just had an interview and I think it went okay :)

Rock Hardy (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 00:25 (twenty years ago)

Sixteen.

Nowell (Nowell), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 00:27 (twenty years ago)

Someone very evil deleted my last thread, I know it.

Nowell (Nowell), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 00:37 (twenty years ago)

hitler?

No, Nowell, the search function has just been buggy lately.

jaymc (jaymc), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 00:38 (twenty years ago)

Maybe not evil. Just...uppity, I guess.

Nowell (Nowell), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 00:39 (twenty years ago)

Do get a grip, Nowell. It's right here: Hey

Rock Hardy (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 00:42 (twenty years ago)

Oh.
Well, I'll be damned. Forgive me for overreacting.

Nowell (Nowell), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 00:44 (twenty years ago)

You won't be damned, but I am holding on to your birthday present for another year. Better luck with #17.

(PS -- it was a pony.)

Rock Hardy (Rock Hardy), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 00:47 (twenty years ago)

You're funny.

Nowell (Nowell), Tuesday, 7 June 2005 00:48 (twenty years ago)
