quincie (quincie), Friday, 22 September 2006 14:29 (eighteen years ago)

OK did anyone else find last night's episode of The Office almost unwatchably awkward?

Oh yes. A total success.

Shitalism.

quincie (quincie), Friday, 22 September 2006 14:54 (eighteen years ago)

I will not probably be around that Sunday y'allz, as I will be flying home to be embraced in snowy weather by my children and wife. This is good for me but sucks for NFL-enabled drunkenedness purposes, as I imagine that watching a game with you-all would be severely fun and probably result in some alcohol poisoning.

I will be exhibiting at a convention (the National Council for the Social Studies, lol teachers) which runs Friday / Saturday, so Thurs / Fri / Sat nites are all open. I will check back on this thread in a month or two when it is becoming realer.

MR QUE YOU CAN EAT IT. (If IT = a tasty sandwich or something.)

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 22 September 2006 15:04 (eighteen years ago)

Hey Haikunym, do you work/teach at KU? I went to MU, dude. GO TIGERS

Mr. Que (Mr.Que), Friday, 22 September 2006 15:06 (eighteen years ago)

Haikunym, where is the convention? Definitely up for hanging out so do make sure to pop in and let us know what is up!!

Mr. Que (Mr.Que), Friday, 22 September 2006 15:10 (eighteen years ago)

I work at KU but it is not Kansas University, rather Kn0wledge Unl1m1ted, an educational publishing company. KU tried to buy our website but lowballed us on it so we ended up taking a lot more for ku.com from some British company. Haha at cheap-ass colleges.

Yay Ally, roger wilco. The last time I tried to hang with ILXors at a convention I got stood up BY NED RAGGETT, East Coast gotta represent better than that.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 22 September 2006 15:12 (eighteen years ago)

oh and it's at the Washington Convention Center on 9th street. I don't have a hotel yet, probably be some fleabag scary place somewhere.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 22 September 2006 15:15 (eighteen years ago)

OK the convention center is right around the corner from my work place! That thing is a labrynth, I hated working the neuroscience conv there, I think it took like an hour straight just to find our booth.

Also: NED RAGGETT!! *shakes fist*

Allyzay is a town of people, people who DIED (allyzay), Friday, 22 September 2006 15:19 (eighteen years ago)

Haikunym the Conv Center is a big spooky barn but you'll be in a good location for cheap Burmese food and drinkings. Plus Metro's right there so you can shake off the teacher dust and head into the night no problem.

Stephen X (Stephen X), Friday, 22 September 2006 15:25 (eighteen years ago)

I haven't been to DC since...wow, since my cousin's wedding party in 1989, at which my brother and I drank so flipping much that we could actually stand my father. I can't remember much of the week, actually. I'm psyched to get back, although I will pretty much just be in the hotel room and the convention center, and maybe obliterating some brain cells.

Haikunym (Haikunym), Friday, 22 September 2006 15:37 (eighteen years ago)

Youn appeared to have had a positive experience at Tabard Inn, which the ilxdc gang recommended a few months back, so perhaps you can consider it for affordable yet charming accommodations. Not exactly in convention center 'hood, but close to Metro.

www.tabard.com

quincie (quincie), Friday, 22 September 2006 15:40 (eighteen years ago)

If I had a .sig file on this board, it would now read "NED RAGGETT!! *shakes fist*".

Young Fresh Danny D (Dan Perry), Friday, 22 September 2006 15:47 (eighteen years ago)

Ladies, do you like knee-high boots that stand up on their own, or the variation that zipper-to-fit? I used to be in the first camp but fear I am migrating to the second, enticed by the charm of the cheaper price.

Mary (Mary), Friday, 22 September 2006 15:52 (eighteen years ago)

Haha now I'm just thinking of that bizarre story you told of that man who shook his fist at you in the bar.

xpost Mary I'm not sure what you mean, all of my boots have zippers?

From the $300 silver ones to the ones I bought at Payless a year ago that are still holding up! Speaking of, there are some mad cute shoes at Payless's website right now.

Allyzay is a town of people, people who DIED (allyzay), Friday, 22 September 2006 15:55 (eighteen years ago)

And the dreaded SKINNY JEANS

Allyzay is a town of people, people who DIED (allyzay), Friday, 22 September 2006 15:55 (eighteen years ago)

These one's I'm talking about seem like cheater boots, they would lie flacid were it not for the material that clings to your calves.

Maybe they are called "shaft"? It tend to be that you can find them in less expensive versions, for example, not always leather.

It's more like a material shaped like a boot, like you are wearing a sock with a heel.

I got my first Payless shoes: white and black patent leather spectator pumps:)

Mary (Mary), Friday, 22 September 2006 15:55 (eighteen years ago)

ALLY I GOT MY SKINNY JEANS YESTERDAY AND IM WEARING THEM NOW TOO THEYRE GREAT

hey, I am wearing skinny jeans today

I want a pair of gray boots myself, but can't afford right now..

dar1a g (daria g), Friday, 22 September 2006 17:03 (eighteen years ago)

I am thinking maybe I would like some brown boots, along with about ten million other items of pricey clothing.

Maybe for laughs I will try on some skinny jeans today (after work obv.)

Also: I am now obsessed with procuring NAVY EYELINER. Of the cake-type kind that you put on with a little brush.

quincie (quincie), Friday, 22 September 2006 17:07 (eighteen years ago)

Tom the Dancing Bug is quite good today

Mr. Que (Mr.Que), Friday, 22 September 2006 17:08 (eighteen years ago)

yay tom the dancing bug that is a good comic

mango selassie (teenagequiet), Friday, 22 September 2006 17:13 (eighteen years ago)

q, do you want to go shopping with me sometime in EL POSHO GTOWN WORLD? I only wear eyeliner applied with little brush, and have procured a navy one already! I want some brown boots too and am considering buying a Dr. Scholl's (!!!!!!!!!!) pair I spotted on Zappo's!

Allyzay is a town of people, people who DIED (allyzay), Friday, 22 September 2006 17:28 (eighteen years ago)

by "sometime" I mean like after work today or maybe tomorrow so I can max out credit cards while Tom is out of town and not hovering over me while I shop

Allyzay is a town of people, people who DIED (allyzay), Friday, 22 September 2006 17:29 (eighteen years ago)

Oh yeah totally--I am absolutely down for helping you spend Tom's bonus while he is out o' town--2k can buy maybe even two pairs of to-die-for boots!

quincie (quincie), Friday, 22 September 2006 17:31 (eighteen years ago)

NO NO NO DON'T DO DR SCHOLLS, at least not until you try the pair I have yet to return. I believe that both Mary and I have concluded that they are possibly the most uncomfortable shoes EVA.

quincie (quincie), Friday, 22 September 2006 17:32 (eighteen years ago)

Let's go tomorrow so that stripey shirts will not interfere with our shopping progress.

Who else is in for poshy posh shopping?

quincie (quincie), Friday, 22 September 2006 17:33 (eighteen years ago)

Whoa but I thought Dr Scholls was supposed to be comfy!!!!!!! WTF

I am down with tomorrow shopping, and procurement of BEST NAVY EYELINER AND BRUSH. I need new mascara, and a trip to Club Monaco, I think. Oh and some DRINKS. Though stripeys will impede progress no matter when we go :\

Allyzay is a town of people, people who DIED (allyzay), Friday, 22 September 2006 17:51 (eighteen years ago)

Ha ha. Stripys! Have fun fending off the stripeys, guys.

xpost ahahahaha dude it would be so funny to see you and Tom get in fite with stripeys outside that j paul place or whatever the hell it is called.

quincie (quincie), Friday, 22 September 2006 18:23 (eighteen years ago)

Allyzay is a town of people, people who DIED (allyzay), Friday, 22 September 2006 18:25 (eighteen years ago)

The greatest underdog story of our time is back for one final round of the Academy Award-winning Rocky franchise. Former heavyweight champion Rocky Balboa steps out of retirement and back into the ring, putting himself against a new rival in a dramatically different era. After a virtual boxing match declares Rocky Balboa the victor over current champion Mason "The Line" Dixon, the legendary fighter's passion and spirit are reignited. But when his desire to fight in small, regional competitions is trumped by promoters calling for a rematch of the cyber-fight, Balboa must weigh the mental and physical risks of a high profile exhibition match against his need to be in the ring.

Allyzay is a town of people, people who DIED (allyzay), Friday, 22 September 2006 18:25 (eighteen years ago)

Does J Paul's still have the deep fried philly cheesesteak rolls appetizer?

Brian Miller (Brian Miller), Friday, 22 September 2006 18:26 (eighteen years ago)

Yes will call noon-ish tomorrow for status update and to decide where inaugural cocktail will be consumed.

xpost jesus h that dude is like seven thousand years old wtf?

quincie (quincie), Friday, 22 September 2006 18:26 (eighteen years ago)

Brian, I have never eaten food at J. Paul's, I don't even actually know if they still have pretzels.

quincie (quincie), Friday, 22 September 2006 18:27 (eighteen years ago)

Mr. Que (Mr.Que), Friday, 22 September 2006 18:28 (eighteen years ago)

I'm totally leaving my wedding rings at home.

quincie (quincie), Friday, 22 September 2006 18:28 (eighteen years ago)

Allyzay is a town of people, people who DIED (allyzay), Friday, 22 September 2006 18:29 (eighteen years ago)

You guys all know that Tom and I met on an evening which involved copious vomiting, drunken tit-grabbing, and hurled beer bottles/glasses, right???

Allyzay is a town of people, people who DIED (allyzay), Friday, 22 September 2006 18:30 (eighteen years ago)

I didn't do any of those things though, I was just drunk enough to go home with Tom, LOL

Allyzay is a town of people, people who DIED (allyzay), Friday, 22 September 2006 18:30 (eighteen years ago)

Was it you or Tom who did the drunken tit-grabbing?

quincie (quincie), Friday, 22 September 2006 18:31 (eighteen years ago)

You grabbed Tom's tits? Dude. That's harsh. Men are sensitive.

Mr. Que (Mr.Que), Friday, 22 September 2006 18:31 (eighteen years ago)

I think I've only seen MW drunk ONCE

quincie (quincie), Friday, 22 September 2006 18:31 (eighteen years ago)

Do you guys, before you go to Georgetown, do you know about equitable distribution?

Mr. Que (Mr.Que), Friday, 22 September 2006 18:32 (eighteen years ago)

dude it was Tom, in whose world is it totally appropriate to reach across a crowded table to the other side and just honk some girl who you don't even KNOW's hooters? But I left my boyfriend for him so I guess well done, captain.

xpost I have only seen Tom drunk once...this week, LOL

Allyzay is a town of people, people who DIED (allyzay), Friday, 22 September 2006 18:32 (eighteen years ago)

I think I've only seen MW drunk ONCE
And you let him propose anyway?

Stephen X (Stephen X), Friday, 22 September 2006 18:35 (eighteen years ago)

But see it really works out on my favor because it means 9 times out of 10, I drive to an event, and MW drives home! Everyone wins! Except for Mark, that is. He's witnessed at least two (2) too may vomitting incidents, god love him.

quincie (quincie), Friday, 22 September 2006 19:09 (eighteen years ago)

I have no evidence that this "Mark" you mention ever attends events. He and I remain matter and anti-matter.

Stephen X (Stephen X), Friday, 22 September 2006 19:13 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah for for real what is up with that? Oh and SX if yr lights go out call and I will hand-deliver your illumination sources. Which otherwise are sitting on top of a bookcase, looking thoughtful.

quincie (quincie), Friday, 22 September 2006 19:15 (eighteen years ago)

I made Mark take a picture of me in headlamp--he should post it.

quincie (quincie), Friday, 22 September 2006 19:17 (eighteen years ago)

I'd forgotten about those! We're likely going to the farmer market Sunday, but you usually go around sunup, don't you? That might make it hard to plan a handoff.

Stephen X (Stephen X), Friday, 22 September 2006 19:44 (eighteen years ago)

I passed on the gold jacket--it did nothing for me--and instead got a french maid's uniform. Um, is anything going on Halloweenish?

Let me know about tomorrow--I should really stay home and do some school work, but if I happen to get stuff done tonight I may be able to swing it--I will just watch though--I can't afford those fancy GT duds.

Mary (Mary), Friday, 22 September 2006 21:17 (eighteen years ago)

I can't really either at the moment--especially after buying the NAVY SHOES today (!), but I can afford some navy eyeliner and some drinks and maybe a blouse or something.

quincie (quincie), Friday, 22 September 2006 21:48 (eighteen years ago)

Woo-hoo navy. Please pair with sailor pants and a red bouse.

Mary (Mary), Friday, 22 September 2006 22:02 (eighteen years ago)

Oh excellent idea esp. red blouse. So my missons for today are:

1. Red blouse (maybe from H&M? With moral support I will try to do the H&M thing today!)
2. Navy eyeliner (Sephora or MAC? Ally to advise)
3. Kiehl's for skin-cleansing product
4. Impulse buy

quincie (quincie), Saturday, 23 September 2006 14:53 (eighteen years ago)

Any sort of pant is always an unlikely proposition owing to the tallness, but sometimes things are available in tall sizes in catalog (i.e. j. crew).

quincie (quincie), Saturday, 23 September 2006 14:55 (eighteen years ago)

Oh and I need some sort of hosiery for my interview!

quincie (quincie), Saturday, 23 September 2006 14:57 (eighteen years ago)

Ooh I need to go to Kiehl's too. I will assist at H&M and Sephora. You forgot 5, "Wake Me Up Booze"

club monaco pants, pretty tall.. sorta. I got another pair from club monaco that are long enough but just can't wear them with heels.
I'm heading out soon to stop @ building museum gift shop to see if I can find something for my brother..

quincie (quincie), Monday, 25 September 2006 18:27 (eighteen years ago)

i think ath is taking the piss and i made his joek obvious. "I'd slit my own throat to prove how much I love saving money" is pretty funny tho.

that would be a good line for your interview.

a|ex (Pareene), Monday, 25 September 2006 18:30 (eighteen years ago)

I'm not losing, have not lost my shit, I did not "lose" in Scrabble either. Hey, I can "adopt" different voices for the Internet, dig? Y'alls are just jealous. There was some INSANE blog like a year ago using that voice, I can't find it now. It was really great.

Mr. Que (Mr.Que), Monday, 25 September 2006 18:32 (eighteen years ago)

"I'd slit my own throat to prove how much I want this job" yeah I'm gonna slip that in for sures.

quincie (quincie), Monday, 25 September 2006 18:44 (eighteen years ago)

Break a leg q and don't forget to do a spit take when they mention starting salary.

Brian Miller (Brian Miller), Tuesday, 26 September 2006 13:14 (eighteen years ago)

dude 100% mind meld I was totally thinking about that movie for the next thread title

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Tuesday, 26 September 2006 13:29 (eighteen years ago)

Thanks everyone! I r excited. I think I've prepared well so unless they are morans and/or assholes (in which case do I really want to work for/with them anyway? Um NO!), I expect it to go fairly smoothly. I'll also have the rest of the day off--yippee!

quincie (quincie), Tuesday, 26 September 2006 13:31 (eighteen years ago)

Allyzay lives aprox. 200 feet away from a stadium (allyzay), Tuesday, 26 September 2006 13:32 (eighteen years ago)

Oh and does anyone really negotiate salary anymore? With my positions it's usually like ok dude this is our max and ok we like you so maybe we can come up with another grand but, uh, there's not really much negotiation room here.

xpost yes Ally I had same reaction. Cuet ghost!

Mr. Que (Mr.Que), Tuesday, 26 September 2006 13:39 (eighteen years ago)

If I am to incorporate one (1) ilxorism into my interview today, what should it be? Like "thanks for bringing me in, this job totally roxors!" or something?

quincie (quincie), Tuesday, 26 September 2006 13:45 (eighteen years ago)

ugh hell no, any of the "xor" memes on this board make me queasy a bit inside. you should tell the interviewer to drop dead.

Allyzay lives aprox. 200 feet away from a stadium (allyzay), Tuesday, 26 September 2006 13:46 (eighteen years ago)

Just tell the story of that one guy's roommate and the couch, it'll all be good.

Stephen X (Stephen X), Tuesday, 26 September 2006 13:48 (eighteen years ago)

that movie is kind of wonderful

All of the summoned creatures in Final Fantasy XII are named after boss enemies or other entities from other Final Fantasy games, most notably Final Fantasy Tactics and its spinoff Final Fantasy Tactics Advance. Cúchulainn, Belias, Zalera, Adrammelech, Hashmalim, and Ultima are all names of various Lucavi demons in Final Fantasy Tactics; though some of their names vary slightly from those of the Final Fantasy XII espers due to errors in translation i.e. Ultima's name is spelled in Final Fantasy Tactics as "Altima" and Cúchulainn was spelled "Queklain". Zodiac also made an appearance in the game as a summoned creature. Similarly, Famfrit, Exodus (Exdeath), Adrammelech, Ultima, and Mateus all appear in Final Fantasy Tactics Advance as Totema, guardians of the Five Crystals of Ivalice. Chaos, Mateus, Famfrit (Dark Cloud), Zeromus and Exodus (Exdeath) are all named after the final bosses of Final Fantasy I, II, III, IV and V; though Mateus and Famfrit are original names from Final Fantasy Tactics Advance, and the reference to being the final bosses lies in their title in the Japanese version and their appearance in the said series, i.e. "Corrupt Emperor Mateus" and "Dark Cloud Famfrit".

Fear & Grits?

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 17:28 (eighteen years ago)

ha funny you should mention WYRS PS. That show makes me cringe in a bad way. the voice overs were the worst. My freshman English teacher really liked my writing and encouraged me a lot and was generally very very awesome to me about writing in general and I thought this was great until she said at the end of the year: "I love your writing and I finally figured out who it reminds me of. Have you ever watched the Wonder Years? Your voice reminds me of the kid in the Wonder Years."

I now have a built in Kevin Arnold detector built into my brain that goes off whenever I write a cheesy/sentimental sentence and I FREAK OUT.

Mr. Que (Mr.Que), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 17:36 (eighteen years ago)

P.S. To my post up there: I liked the Wonder Years until my teacher said this.

yep. Agreed. I will say this though--I love the trio of boys in Fear & Grits. The Groucho kid is a card, the Sam kid is a cutie pie and the other one looks insane. I guess what I'm trying to say=the characters so far on F&G I think are very very awesome.

Mr. Que (Mr.Que), Wednesday, 27 September 2006 17:44 (eighteen years ago)

One thing that I think American Hardcore--as a movement/genre or whatever you want to call it--did that was important for the evolution of Rockism is that it helped provide the blueprint for how a band could be successful in this country without cowtowing to the Corporate Consumer Culture. Fugazi is a prime example. There are a lots of reasons not to like Fugazi. First of all they come from Washignton DC. And DC is basically the Anus of America. It produces nothing but shit and attracts nothing but perverse and corrupt dicks (Dick Cheney, Dick Nixon, etc.)...although admittedly (like an anus) DC will occasionally provide some funny sounding farts (the Make up, Henry Rollins) from time to time--which are always good for a laugh. But for the most part (like the anus) DC produces nothing but shit

mango selassie (teenagequiet), Thursday, 28 September 2006 18:15 (eighteen years ago)

Here's Wikipedia, not too reliable, but you get the drift. Also: KLG to thread who can prolly explain better.

In American English usage, a CV is a longer document than a résumé, and will include a comprehensive listing of professional history including every term of employment, academic credential, publication, contribution or significant achievement. In certain professions, it may even include samples of the person's work and may run to many pages. In contrast, a résumé is a summary typically limited to one or two pages highlighting only those experiences and credentials which the author considers most relevant to the desired position. CVs are the preferred recruiting tool for academic and medical professions while résumés are generally preferred for business employment.

CV is what in England they call a resume or what in America smart, accomplished people like professors or artists use to list all of their accomplishments, books, papers, exhibits, awards, fellowships and Macarthur genius grants. When I've had to write one it involved serious use of padding. Do a search for CV in your field and you should see some examples.

Navy blue on its own isn't much cop, but paired with red it has a certain retro wartime 40s vibe.

what the!!?? is that a joke? I'm so stressed today I can't even tell

I am wearing a navy blue skirt. shiny! (silk charmeuse). with black. I pretty much wear navy blue with black every day now.. which usually goes except the original navy blue blouse I planned to wear with black shorts was totally the wrong shade, so I had to change it up. navy's great 'cause it goes with everything and unlike black, you can wear all navy everything without looking like an office goth

dar1a g (daria g), Thursday, 28 September 2006 21:10 (eighteen years ago)

my concept/experience of "navy blue" makes it basically incompatible with black, waht.

It takes a man with a large ego to accept one of my dinner invitations. Mario Batali, chef and co-owner of Babbo, Manhattan's most famous Italian restaurant is one of them. He came bearing his own quince-flavoured grappa. I took out my white, dense slab of lardo. He glanced down at it, his huge masculine frame rocking in a testosterone-busting parenthesis, before producing his own.

"My lardo is bigger than yours," he scoffed. At that moment I decided I was going to be Mario's kitchen slave; just as he had once been Marco Pierre White's bitch.

Max Flatow is a precocious, social miscreant who has a way with home-made explosives. When he tires of these, he runs away from home only to emerge seven years later as Max Frost, the world's most popular entertainer. When Congressman John Fergus uses Frost as a political ploy to gain the youth vote in his run for the Senate, Frost wills himself into the system, gaining new rights for the young. Eventually, Frost runs for the presidency. Winning in a landslide, he issues his first presidential edict: All oldsters are required to live in "retirement homes" where they are forced to ingest LSD, taking the 60s catch phrase "Never trust anyone over 30" to its most extreme consequences.

He is tall-ish, skinny-ish, and pale-ish in true Britisher fashion, has adorable accent, and, uh, OK that's all I know. Owns home and drives shiny black Mercedes. Was dressed in non-stripey shirt, skinny jeans, and euro-man loafers (in a good way, not a bad way). Mr. Que said he's seen dude out running so also reasonably athletic? So Pete it turns out after all that Floating Coal-Fired Citadel crap, you get to Rhapthorne at the the center of a spooky hall-of-illusions soundstage setup (y'know, fake doors and such nonsense), and he's an ugly fat little demonic bumblebee lookin' thing. I killed that fucker with a couple dozen Mind Breakers and some fire and SURPRISE the castle starts falling apart.

You go running out of the castle and get ambushed by the statues and shit on the way, like 4 statues of the members of your party ("The statue of Yangus assesses the situation with a big grin on his face") and two Megalodon sharks jump out of the fountain etc. Then you get outside and a big chunk of the collapsing architecture turns into this:
http://www.woodus.com/den/gallery/graphics/dq8ps2/monster/ruin.png
but imagine that takes up the entire screen. I got Angelo to turn purple but FOR ONCE IN HIS LIFE he didn't go FIRST and somebody else killed the thing instead, that was 100% ungulate nuts

Then you turn back into a bird and try to escape but there's an extraordinarily convoluted animated sequence whereby the castle itself performs a reverse-fart maneuver and sucks in all the polluted air and debris around it. Then SHAZAM the castle turns into the REAL Rhapthorne, who is a 300' tall, obese, veiny purple butt with wings, arms and a head. The head has horns and a goatee and about five chins. He proceeds to open up two gateways to the world of darkness through which hundreds of dark griffins emerge and begin slapping you around while in flight.

POP you are no longer in the form of a bird and begin falling out of the sky! POP one of the gateways is shattered and the big godbird appears SWOOP rescues you from midair and then

GODBIRD: Well he's surrounded himself with an impenetrable barrier. To break it, you have to go on another wild goose chase all over the whole goddamned planet to find some magical fucking orbs with blah blah blah blah

So you didn't miss much.

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Monday, 2 October 2006 13:10 (eighteen years ago)

What are Black Lips? Yay, it's October, best month of the year, except for days when it can't decide whether it's hot or cold.

x-post: Mine was awesome, went to Cryfest, ran into some old friends from the Moz tour circuit, went to book fest, ran into SX, went to exhibit of NY photos at the Natl, which was too crowded.

Mr. Que (Mr.Que), Monday, 2 October 2006 14:06 (eighteen years ago)

Um, no. You're gonna have to make something up.

In response to a fourth case of botulism associated with carrot juice, FDA is advising consumers not to drink containers of Bolthouse Farms carrot juice with "best if used by" dates of Nov. 11, 2006, or earlier. FDA is investigating inadequate refrigeration and other possible links as possible causes of the tainted juice.

So now that the spinach thing is winding down, will carrot juice be ruining your life?

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 13:17 (eighteen years ago)

I guess I deny a lot of my twee wussy indie rock heritage. I drink A LOT more now.

Mr. Que (Mr.Que), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 13:19 (eighteen years ago)

i deny most of my heritage but only because it's a heritage worth denying. i drink way more now. i need to sell a lot of records, too, so that part of the plan is workable.

mango selassie (teenagequiet), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 13:27 (eighteen years ago)

yeah I mean denying your heritage is perfectly justifiable when there are objective arguments to be made against it, such as "can you distinguish the audible contents of this compact disc from any of the others in this pile, and even if you think you can, do you really feel like trying?"

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 13:30 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah I sold a bunch of stuff when I moved up here (I think I've told this boring story before) including stuff I probably shouldn't have sold, like Flipper Generic (on vinyl! oooooooo!) so be careful when selling, bro.

Mr. Que (Mr.Que), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 13:33 (eighteen years ago)

I sold stuff mostly I never listened to including Some Velvet Sidewalk, that first or second Truman's Water record, seven inches that I don't/didn't care about. It was kind of fun but I was in a rush to move so wasn't as careful as I should have been. Though some things I just eyeballed and said: "GET OUT OF MY LIFE."

Mr. Que (Mr.Que), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 13:35 (eighteen years ago)

Dude seriously nobody on the whole of amazon.com was interested in this shit. Larry Heard is a dog whose day has been had. The rest of the shit I can't even name. I think there's the Fennesz Plays EP in there? I mean it's just a mind-boggling cornucopia of horseshit from when I thought disposable income meant you had to dispose of all of it immediately by going to www.forcedexposure.com or taking a weekend trip up to SF to go to Amoeba.

If I was in your house I would take my mini behringer mixer and as many playback sources as I could find and play fennesz through the two stereo channels, then put that Orioles Road To The Pennant record on channels 1&2 and run them through pitch delay/chorus on the sends

HI DERES I AM WORKING FROM HOME!

BRING IT ON COMPUTER GUY I KNOW SOME STONERZ

OK when I first read this I thought maybe MW was refering to my stoner little brother, and had quite the visual picturing TOMBOT fighting high paraplegic guy. Note: my brother has been thrown in jail for picking a fight (from wheelchair) with some 275-lb meathead.

quincie (quincie), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 15:23 (eighteen years ago)

dude I have never eaten a tuna sandwich mostly because I basically find tuna disgusting unless it is BRIGHT RED

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 16:14 (eighteen years ago)

You've never been to the beach then, because that is all yr allowed to eat 4 lunch at beach=PBJ or Tuna.

Mr. Que (Mr.Que), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 16:15 (eighteen years ago)

yeah now i don eat no tuna unless it's bright red either, but come on you guys went to elementary school right?

mango selassie (teenagequiet), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 16:16 (eighteen years ago)

God I love tuna so much. With toasted bread. MMMMMMMMM. However, I can see why people think it is disgusting.

Mr. Que (Mr.Que), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 16:18 (eighteen years ago)

just because i didnt drink the eat tuna kool-aid wvs

Maf54 (plsmith), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 16:18 (eighteen years ago)

Wait, so as a kid what did you eat for lunch? PBJ? Bologna? Liverwurst?

Mr. Que (Mr.Que), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 16:20 (eighteen years ago)

ok how do you know that you find tuna disgusting if you've NEVER EATEN IT?

Allyzay lives aprox. 200 feet away from a stadium (allyzay), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 16:21 (eighteen years ago)

disgusting isnt just a taste thing!

Maf54 (plsmith), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 16:24 (eighteen years ago)

i know tuomas is disgusting but ive never eaten him

Maf54 (plsmith), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 16:24 (eighteen years ago)

I can totally see not eating a food because it looks gross even if I've never tried said food, in Tom's defense.

Mr. Que (Mr.Que), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 16:25 (eighteen years ago)

or if it SMELLS LIKE AWFUL FROM ACROSS THE ROOM

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 16:25 (eighteen years ago)

xp - DYIN'

mango selassie (teenagequiet), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 16:26 (eighteen years ago)

similarly I am unable to stomach hard-boiled eggs that aren't deviled or perhaps chopped into fine bits and merged into a salad

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 16:26 (eighteen years ago)

I still want to know what TOMBOT and PS had for lunch as childrens.

Mr. Que (Mr.Que), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 16:26 (eighteen years ago)

um as a kid i ate the following:

pretzels and peanut butter
peanut butter sandwiches
jelly sandwiches
raw carrots
raw green peppers
peanut butter crackers

that is all.

Maf54 (plsmith), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 16:27 (eighteen years ago)

let's not rehash the peanuts discussion either

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 16:27 (eighteen years ago)

ham, cheese + bean sprouts on whole grain

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 16:27 (eighteen years ago)

One time Tom asked for a PBJ from his aunt and then refused to eat it because the bread was too square or some shit, he was a weird obnoxious picky child and I'd probably knock him flat on his ass if he was my child.

Allyzay lives aprox. 200 feet away from a stadium (allyzay), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 16:27 (eighteen years ago)

NO!!!!!!!!!! It wasn't that the bread was too square, holy shit Tom I remember what Dixie told me. IT WAS THAT SHE CUT THE BREAD DIFFERENT FROM HOW YOU WANTED IT TO BE SLICED (FORGET IT YOU PREFERRED DIAGONAL OR MIDDLE).

Allyzay lives aprox. 200 feet away from a stadium (allyzay), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 16:28 (eighteen years ago)

^^^^^^^^This is what I live with, every day of my life.

Allyzay lives aprox. 200 feet away from a stadium (allyzay), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 16:29 (eighteen years ago)

I was just as picky as Tombot. For awhile I would only eat bologna sandwiches. It had to be Oscar Mayer. My mom still tells the story where I went over to my grandmas house and she (Grandma) bought me a fuckton of special deli sliced bologna from this great butcher and I like the little bitch I was wouldn't touch it.

Mr. Que (Mr.Que), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 16:29 (eighteen years ago)

I definitely preferred diagonal because it was how sandwiches were cut on trains.

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 16:30 (eighteen years ago)

NO!!!!!!!!!! It wasn't that the bread was too square, holy shit Tom I remember what Dixie told me. IT WAS THAT SHE CUT THE BREAD DIFFERENT FROM HOW YOU WANTED IT TO BE SLICED (FORGET IT YOU PREFERRED DIAGONAL OR MIDDLE).

T-MINUS SOON TO INTERVIEW #2!

Also: ask MW about his fucked-up stepgrandmother's attitude toward PB&J

quincie (quincie), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 16:34 (eighteen years ago)

man, you guys know what is awesomely stupidly awesome? "highway star"!

mango selassie (teenagequiet), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 16:35 (eighteen years ago)

Seriously though, you guys don't really know how many food items in the 3+ years I've known Tom he has declared inedible, disgusting, horrifying, etc etc etc that he now requests me to make regularly. That's why I asked him, how does he know. The bottom line is that I think people in his family just don't know how to cook or something, not that tuna fish sandwich is a "cooking" item.

I still can't get him to get over his phobia of corn-off-the-cob though.

Allyzay lives aprox. 200 feet away from a stadium (allyzay), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 16:36 (eighteen years ago)

please explain the cultural reference?

In DC - sandwiches and geek abuse

in the cooler - pirate shanties and songs about syphillis

Ed (dali), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 16:36 (eighteen years ago)

Tuna salad sandwich + metal Charlie Brown lunchbox + 80-degree gradeschool classroom all morning = weapons-grade lunchtime stenchcloud

Stephen X (Stephen X), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 16:37 (eighteen years ago)

Ed, those are the stars of a ridiculous reality tv show, those men come into the lives of random other dudes and totally remake them and make them learn how to cook fussy food and fix their house up to be pretty etc etc.

Great now I'm the Squirrel POlice of this thread.

Mr. Que (Mr.Que), Tuesday, 3 October 2006 17:09 (eighteen years ago)

4 MW's comprehension purpose:

of course. it's not the only way, but it's probably the most direct and to the point. an equivalent would be drawing someone out into a long, deep, and totally honest conversation but that's difficult. but you'd have to talk to them for hours on end, and alone, one-on-one so their not grandstanding or hedging. people are far more likely to open up in print then verbally.

-- Squirrel_Police (goblinatri...) (webmail), September 27th, 2006 8:53 PM. (later)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

and like I said, obviously it depends on what you read.

-- Squirrel_Police (goblinatri...) (webmail), September 27th, 2006 8:54 PM. (later)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

And your comprehension level. And your actual access to reading materials. And the subjective opinion of the subliterate you're arguing with on a message board as to whether or not what you read is worthwhile, I guess.

-- Allyzay lives aprox. 200 feet away from a stadium (allyza...) (webmail), September 27th, 2006 8:56 PM. (later)

Turkey, Salad, Stuffing and cranberry sauce sandwiches on a malted batch sanwich are the best on Boxing day (substitue Black Friday, yanks)

Ed (dali), Wednesday, 4 October 2006 13:33 (eighteen years ago)

Turkey leftover sandwiches = awesome. At my house we didn't have to chop up the turkey slices to chew 'em though.

Ok listen DUDES WHO DO NOT WEAR HEELS, I am a big fan of heels. I am not a big fan of extensive walking in heels. I needs some reasonably comfortable shoes to get me to/from office, Trader Joes, Hunan, etc., reserving heels for tottering to and from the copy machine. Capice?

xpost oh my

quincie (quincie), Wednesday, 4 October 2006 15:33 (eighteen years ago)

Also I am thinking that if weather is good I will Metro instead of busing in order to get some exercise and run various errands. Metro = more walking than if I bus.

quincie (quincie), Wednesday, 4 October 2006 15:34 (eighteen years ago)

Hmm I really need Ally to weigh in on this.

quincie (quincie), Wednesday, 4 October 2006 15:36 (eighteen years ago)

Q will your jeans-wearing new coworkers drag you down into slack office wear?

Stephen X (Stephen X), Wednesday, 4 October 2006 15:36 (eighteen years ago)

what time will you be working, Q?

Mr. Que (Mr.Que), Wednesday, 4 October 2006 15:37 (eighteen years ago)

OK so Gigantes are playing the Racial Epithets this week so no need to have NFL DirecTV Total Package to see Gigantes game. So, we could theoretically do 4Ps again (which, as SOME of us might recall, serves Murphy's). Or we could do Muttley's on Sunday. Letting you guys decide because quite frankly I don't give a FUCK I am so pissed off at life today. No need to decide immediately, just throwin' down the word a bit early in case any interested person(s) has other committments they will have to break in order to bro.

Q, I like the shoes Tom posted BUT I am not a fan of flats and rarely wear them. My travellin' shoes during summer consist of a pair of flip flops that are immediately switched out at the office, and not worn during lunch errands (ha ha like I've left desk during lunch in months). Def. do not do the sneakers thing. I guess you generally wear trousers so you could get away with it but get fashion sneakers if you're going to try to do that, and never, ever, ever wear that shit with a skirt, at least not until you turn 73 or something.

Allyzay lives aprox. 200 feet away from a stadium (allyzay), Wednesday, 4 October 2006 15:40 (eighteen years ago)

I forgot to mention that I do not "do" travellin' shoes during winter. Closest I have is like, wedge heels that are less than 4 inches tall that I stomp around in. Bad at giving advice on the comfortshoe. :\

Allyzay lives aprox. 200 feet away from a stadium (allyzay), Wednesday, 4 October 2006 15:41 (eighteen years ago)

tombot I was looking at those boots on some site & srsly thought about buying.. but can't spend the $$ now. they're cool.

I'm wearing flats today, I feel short

CONGRATS Q. celebratory drinks @ football Sunday are urgent and key!

dar1a g (daria g), Wednesday, 4 October 2006 15:52 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah anywhere Sunday works for me. Although the 4Ps does not have wings, and this is perhaps a fatal flaw.

quincie (quincie), Wednesday, 4 October 2006 15:56 (eighteen years ago)

Also Ally I think maybe I spied a flip flop that is neither mine nor MW's in the trunk of our car--are you missing a pair?

quincie (quincie), Wednesday, 4 October 2006 15:57 (eighteen years ago)

HAHAHA yes--I had them on me when we were going to AH's party in Bmore. Forgot about them! Are they silver?

Mr. Que (Mr.Que), Wednesday, 4 October 2006 16:05 (eighteen years ago)

How much are the Puma boots? I like them too, and maybe should consider semi-flat stompin' round shoes.

4Ps has no wings but a more quiet atmosphere and that huge tv. Muttley's has good wings and friendly bartender, but smaller and less good beer selection. I will go with either, I think that is a draw situation for me personally.

Allyzay lives aprox. 200 feet away from a stadium (allyzay), Wednesday, 4 October 2006 16:07 (eighteen years ago)

Yeah actually I could do either because I can always fire up the ole Delonghi Roto-Fryer for DIY wings.

dude college park CONTAINS the whole of new jersey

mango selassie (teenagequiet), Wednesday, 4 October 2006 19:29 (eighteen years ago)

the citypaper rarely deigns to report on ANYTHING in the metro area thats outside the district itself. thats a fine policy, but it just rubs me the wrong way when they decide a newsworthy reason to break convention reads like "OMG FRAT GUYS ARE HOMOPHOBIC - ISNT PODUNK COLLEGE PARK SAD? HAHAHA - THANK GOD WE DIDNT GO TO BIG STATE UNIVERSITIES!"

Maf54 (plsmith), Wednesday, 4 October 2006 19:38 (eighteen years ago)

That is the worst thing that can ever happen though!!! If you discount our president, and like genocide, and Fred Durst, and kittens not existing, and like...uh...sandwiches being cut all the wrong way and stuff. Phone receivers are somewhere after that, being all crap hung up wrong and stuff

dude that cat is like the most favorite cat in the world. He looks so sweet and sad and adorable. If I saw that cat on the street, he would come home with me, even if I had to rip him from the arms of a young child.

I don't feel that way about Galveston either!

Allyzay lives aprox. 200 feet away from a stadium (allyzay), Wednesday, 4 October 2006 19:42 (eighteen years ago)

Oh but yeah I do have a soft spot for Bethlehem, PA, o crappy little college town o' mine.

quincie (quincie), Wednesday, 4 October 2006 19:42 (eighteen years ago)

Dude Galveston could just sink back into the ocean and I like would not miss a single thing about it.

quincie (quincie), Wednesday, 4 October 2006 19:42 (eighteen years ago)

Well, if it did, you wouldn't have it anymore to compare to everything else to be like, "Well, place X was pretty crap, but at least it's not Galveston." That's something to miss.

Allyzay lives aprox. 200 feet away from a stadium (allyzay), Wednesday, 4 October 2006 19:44 (eighteen years ago)

Goddamn this fucking company! Here's the deal: I just checked my paystub, which is supposed to reflect my promotion/raise as of last week, right (never mind that I've been doing the fucking job since the end of August. . .)?

The raise is fully 5% short of what it is supposed to be! So I need to give notice tomorrow, after which I hardly think my boss will be terribly interested in fixing whatever fuckup happened; I mean I guess could understand if his attitude was like "oh well you're leaving anyway so what does it matter."

Which would piss me off, because it matters fucking 5% is what!

Argh. Exactly what am I supposed to do here?

quincie (quincie), Wednesday, 4 October 2006 20:14 (eighteen years ago)

"art-dicking"

"That bunch needs to art-dick it up and quit that conventional rock sound bullshit."

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Friday, 6 October 2006 13:36 (eighteen years ago)

xxp - um, yes, that guy did indeed suck. i count hims as significantly worse than both the alcoholic and the schizophrenic, roommatewise. love seat incident occurred shortly after he'd moved in and i was still trying to do the friendly dude thing. he asked if i wanted to hang in his room for a while, which seemed fine enough...until he patted the other cushion on the love seat. so i sat down, he asked if i wanted to SPLIT A BEER, then asked me "do you mind if i read you some poetry?" i, being...well, i don't know, there's really no legitimate excuse for my saying no. but i said no, and he read. some of it was his poetry, some of it wasn't. but after every selection, he waited for me to give my thoughts. shit was lame.

mango selassie (teenagequiet), Friday, 6 October 2006 13:42 (eighteen years ago)

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Friday, 6 October 2006 13:51 (eighteen years ago)

splitting beers is ok sometimes but NOT in that situation, because said splitting occurred without the aid of glasses. i hated his girlfriend too, and he gave her a key without telling anyone so one day i came home (while he was out of town) from taking a walk around the neighborhood whilst frying my brains out on illicit substances and she'd invited her friends over to our house and then she sorta came on to me which was so not appreciated. then i kicked her ass at scrabble, i think out of spite more than anything else.

Google Book Search is great! Someone asked me to look for a document she found online. I followed the link she sent--it was for a govt document--and it only gave SNIPPETS of the document and Google DID NOT SHOW THE TITLE OF SAID DOCUMENT ANYWHERE ON THE WEBSITE ANYWHERE AT ALL! When I clicked the Alibris (used book website) link to the right that said "BUY THIS BOOK FROM ALIBRIS" it sent me to a webpage that offered up used copies of the Clinton Impeachment hearings! Not the document my person was looking for at all! Google, is there anything you can't do? Besides hire A FUCKING LIBRARIAN??????

Mr. Que (Mr.Que), Friday, 6 October 2006 17:03 (eighteen years ago)

Will anyone be out and about DC after 5 today? I was thinking of trying out Sonoma but fear it is too upscale for me. Anyway, text me if anything is going on.

Mary (Mary), Saturday, 7 October 2006 15:02 (eighteen years ago)

sonoma is v good.. I am super short of cash until next week's payday though. gonna be on the other side of the city near q's neighborhood most of the day (catching up on work!)

1pm tomorrow at 4ps!

Allyzay lives aprox. 200 feet away from a stadium (allyzay), Saturday, 7 October 2006 17:21 (eighteen years ago)

Hey Dar1a feel free to stop by for coffee/beerz!

This morning I did the AIDS walk (in the rain, thank you very much) and then had a MOST UNSUCCESSFUL commuting-shoe shopping experience.

My new options:

a) Hand Brian 80 bucks and have him pick out shoes for me at Puma or other hipster shoe store
b) Throw comfy insoles into a pair of b&w converse high tops and leave it at that

I could not find any "comfort shoes" that were both comfortable and something I would be willing to wear in public.

quincie (quincie), Saturday, 7 October 2006 17:33 (eighteen years ago)

Option B!!! Option B!!!

TOMBOT (TOMBOT), Saturday, 7 October 2006 17:39 (eighteen years ago)

You people and your "morning".

Stephen X (Stephen X), Saturday, 7 October 2006 17:55 (eighteen years ago)

I like option B, too! Although without added support it is not like all-stars are great for tons o' walking.

Also need help with: procurement of cool laptop bag (I gets a laptop with new jobbie! How long do you think it will take me to lose it???)

xpost Stephen, it pained even me to wake at 7 on a Sat.

quincie (quincie), Saturday, 7 October 2006 17:56 (eighteen years ago)

OK I like these laptop bags, but I need something I can sling over my shoulder and not have to carry in hand like an old-school briefcase ('cause that would be recipe for me losing the thing in, like, two seconds).

quincie (quincie), Saturday, 7 October 2006 17:59 (eighteen years ago)

Oops forgot link:

quincie (quincie), Saturday, 7 October 2006 17:59 (eighteen years ago)

Those do look good, but it's weird that they don't even have d-rings that you could clip a shoulder strap to.

I like the zippered outside compartment--I've always got to have someplace for easy mid-Metro stuffing of newspapers, gloves, meatball sub.

Stephen X (Stephen X), Saturday, 7 October 2006 18:06 (eighteen years ago)

that tumi place on wisconsin (near cmdr salamndr) has laptop bags. however, cannot gauge whether that brand is OK or not. brian miller, what do you think?

I usually just wear my gray Pumas as commuter shoes. I really wanted le coq sportif shoes but didn't have patience to wait so just went to the puma store to find something in gray. they're very comfortable. of course one big problem is, what do you do when your trousers are long enough to wear with heels & yet you have to walk to the metro in flats..?

quincie (quincie), Saturday, 7 October 2006 21:48 (eighteen years ago)

Q, do not give me money to buy you commuting shoes. You will and up looking like you're from a very disappointing version of the future. Converse hi tops still >>>> new balances.

Tumi is a very good brand for bags that is maddeningly expensive.

Yeah, hella dudes in red dresses today.

Brian Miller (Brian Miller), Saturday, 7 October 2006 22:07 (eighteen years ago)

I am so confused about dudes in red dresses.

Also: I think I hate gmail. All I want to do is move shit out of my inbox and into folders WHY CAN'T I DO THIS FUCK YOU "LABELS"

Die Hard: Reset (USA) (working title)

Trivia: While in early development, the movie had been given the subtitle "Tears of the Sun". Bruce Willis told the studio he would commit to _Die Hard 4.0 (2006)_ if he could use the title for Tears of the Sun (2003).

I'm so confused about the need to make Converse any more comfortable than they already are!

Also: I think I hate gmail. All I want to do is move shit out of my inbox and into folders WHY CAN'T I DO THIS FUCK YOU "LABELS"

i think the best way (as far as im concerned) to navigate gmail is not filing anything under labels, and just searching for relevant terms, using the google search bar. this works really well for me, cause i can usually remember a couple key terms from the emails im looking for.

also, if i had to live in a world of a billion reply emails with subject lines like "re: tonight," instead of a billion emails under one conversation with subject line "tonight," i would just explode. more traditional email structure is like if every time someone responded to one of these threads, it started a whole new thread, which could be interrupted by other threads, etc etc etc.

also, gmail gives you like 3GB of storage (i use like 80% of mine), the integrated IM is browser-based, so doesnt require downloading a separate program, and is waaaaaay more discreet/harder to block for work IM'ing. also, the spam filter is very good.
